Husband, Let Your Husband Treat Your Illness - Chapter 11
Chapter 11
During the few days Ye Mo spent lying in bed, Dongfang Jin constantly changed his recipes to cook all sorts of delicacies for him. When Ye Mo stepped on the scale, he found he had gained a full five pounds (approx. 2.5kg). For Ye Mo, whose weight had remained a fixed numerical value since graduating university, this was not good news. Consequently, he began eating less and less over the past few days, leading to the following scene:
“Mo, can’t you eat properly? You’ve left so much behind again. Is my cooking getting worse lately?” Dongfang Jin, a sturdy man nearly 1.9 meters tall, knelt halfway beside the dining table, holding a bowl out to Ye Mo. “Eat a little more, otherwise it’s such a waste.”
Ye Mo didn’t even cast a glance back, coldly spitting out two words: “Not eating!” He continued reading the Financial Times in his hand. After these few days together, Dongfang Jin had come to understand this “little ancestor” in front of him. Although he was a young man, his daily routine was like an elderly person’s sleeping by 8 or 9 PM and waking at 8 or 9 AM. Yet his eating habits were like a child’s picky about everything and prone to quitting a meal at the slightest whim. However, to Dongfang Jin, he loved Ye Mo no matter how he acted.
“Mo, you’re injured; you need to recover quickly. Let’s go to the hospital for a follow-up. Even though the care I give you is definitely five-star hospital standard, we don’t have precision instruments at home. You still need to go.” Dongfang Jin painstakingly tried to urge the little ancestor to the hospital, but each time he was met only with a cold roll of the eyes.
“Dongfang Jin! Day by day, you’re about to feed me into a pig. My injuries are almost healed. When they’re ready, hurry up and remove this cast—it’s uncomfortable. And let me say it one more time: I am not going to the hospital!”
“Mo, you still have to go. Just for my sake, please?”
“Your sake! How much is your ‘sake’ worth? Is it worth a trip to the hospital for the Fourth Young Master of the Ye family?” Ye Mo shot a murderous glare at Dongfang Jin, who had no choice but to fall silent.
Dongfang Jin had a decisive, “no-nonsense” personality. He had actually secretly booked a follow-up appointment for Ye Mo today and arranged everything at the hospital; all that was missing was the ancestor’s nod. Looking at the little ancestor’s stubbornness, Dongfang Jin decided to go for broke. He suddenly swept Ye Mo up in a horizontal “princess carry” and walked toward the door. “Dongfang Jin! You brainless idiot! Put me down! I’m not going to the hospital!” Although Ye Mo was injured, his body remained agile as he thrashed about.
“Mo, stop moving. We’re going to the hospital for a proper check-up to see how you’ve recovered during this time.” Dongfang Jin’s words clearly had no effect; Ye Mo remained unpersuaded, continuing to struggle willfully.
As they reached the elevator, Ye Mo’s struggle grew more intense, much like an animal sensing it was being led to slaughter. Unexpectedly, Dongfang Jin stumbled. His grip loosened, and just as Ye Mo was about to hit the ground, Dongfang Jin’s reflexes kicked in. He grabbed the falling Ye Mo and spun around, using himself as a human cushion to protect him. Dongfang Jin’s back of the head made solid, intimate contact with the floor, and by some freak coincidence, Ye Mo’s lips landed accurately on Dongfang Jin’s.
The two stared wide-eyed at each other, neither getting up, silently listening to the other’s breathing and heartbeat. Ye Mo initially thought the loud, rapid thumping was Dongfang Jin’s heart and felt a twinge of secret satisfaction. But after a moment, he realized that it was his own heart racing, and his face flushed red.
Dongfang Jin was delighted to see Ye Mo like this and, for a moment, forgot to let him up. The two lay there by the elevator for quite a while. “Hey, hey, hey—even if you’re showing off your love, isn’t this a bit much? Mo, you’re overdoing it.” Both were startled and looked up to find Ye Huan’s large head staring down at the two of them on the floor.
The two scrambled up in a panic. Dongfang Jin rubbed the back of his head: “Hiss! Mo, if I end up stupid because of this, you’ll have to compensate me for the rest of your life.” “Serves you right. If you hadn’t taken it upon yourself to drag me to the hospital, would this have happened?” “I was doing it for your own good!”
The two began bickering amongst themselves, completely ignoring Ye Huan’s presence.
“Stop, stop, stop! You two can finish your fight later! I came today to tell you that Big Brother has already told the family about this. Grandpa was worried that your injury would make things inconvenient, so he told me to come and pick you up to stay at home.” Ye Mo and Dongfang Jin looked at each other and smiled without saying a word, as if sharing a strange tacit understanding. Ye Huan continued, “What are you two smiling at? From what I’ve observed, the Old Master didn’t say he opposed it, nor did he say he agreed. You better prepare yourselves for the road ahead.” Although Ye Huan usually seemed flippant, he never dropped the ball at critical moments.
“Third Brother, I’ll go with you. Dongfang Jin is coming with me too. We’re going home together.”
Ye Huan was surprised that Ye Mo used the words “going home” so directly, and he privately admired his younger brother’s courage.
“Mo, are you serious?”
“I will explain our situation clearly to the elders. A one-month period I believe my family won’t deny us that. After a month, if we break up, they naturally won’t say anything and things will return to normal. If we continue to stay together, I don’t think they will object.” At this moment, Ye Mo looked like the person Dongfang Jin had first met—firm, cold, and composed.
“Fine, I’ll go with you.” The three of them went downstairs and drove toward the Ye family residence. There was silence in the car. Ye Mo was thinking about how to introduce Dongfang Jin to the family and how to persuade them; Dongfang Jin was thinking about Ye Mo’s words though rational, they were incredibly warm to him. As for Ye Huan, he figured: If you guys aren’t talking, then neither am I.
Before long, they arrived in front of the massive Ye family villa. Dongfang Jin already knew what kind of existence the Ye family was, but seeing it in person still felt somewhat surreal. “Mo, is this really your house?”
“Nonsense! Don’t say anything stupid once we get inside.” As soon as the words left Ye Mo’s mouth, a “little daughter-in-law” feeling cropped up in Dongfang Jin’s heart. He immediately shook his head! He thought: I’m the one on top! Looking at Dongfang Jin’s expression, Ye Mo felt like he was looking at an idiot.
The car stopped, and a servant skillfully opened the door to assist the injured Ye Mo. Surprisingly, they were pushed aside by Dongfang Jin. He simply wanted to support Ye Mo himself, supporting him like this until they grew old together.
“Fourth Young Master, Third Young Master, welcome home.” The servants shouted in unison, giving Dongfang Jin quite a start. Upon entering, they found the entire Ye family, young and old, sitting neatly around a round table. Seeing this, Ye Huan obediently took his seat. As soon as Ye Mo entered, he greeted everyone and said, “Dongfang Jin, these are my family members. You probably know a few of them already, so I won’t introduce them one by one.”
Dongfang Jin’s manners were impeccable; he wasn’t intimidated by the Ye family’s aura at all. After all, in terms of sheer numbers, the Dongfang family was a true anomaly themselves.
“The young man looks good, quite spirited,” the Old Master spoke first. “You must have suffered these past few days, haven’t you? Grandpa is here; if you have any grievances, just say them. Grandpa will stand up for you.”
As soon as the Old Master spoke, the Ye family was thunderstruck. They had expected the stubborn Old Master to fly into a rage, but instead, he said this.
“Grandpa, what do you mean? Is being with me a ‘grievance’?” Ye Mo was a bit dissatisfied. What did the Old Master mean by suffering?
“Grandpa, no. I’m very happy being with Mo.”
Dongfang Jin’s reply stunned the Ye family once again. In the Ye family, everyone knew who was the hardest to deal with. If you asked ten people, all ten would answer: “Ye Mo!” And now this young man was saying he was happy being with Ye Mo? It was simply unbelievable. “I can testify that they were just kissing like crazy at the elevator door.” It seemed today’s meeting was destined to be chaotic; they had just digested one bombshell when another arrived.
“Third Brother! Watch your words! I have plenty of undeveloped projects on my hands!” Ye Mo spoke through gritted teeth, his words laced with a threat. Ye Huan could only laugh bitterly and shut his mouth tight.
“Doctor Dongfang Jin, this boy of ours has a lot of bad habits. Are you truly certain you want to be with this brat?” The speaker was Ye Mo’s biological mother, An Yue, wearing an expression of “lamenting his lack of potential.”
“Exactly, Doctor Dongfang. Ye Mo’s temper is truly terrible. If you’re forcing yourself to take him, don’t let it ruin the rest of your life.” The father spoke up—truly a biological father.
“Mom! Dad!” Ye Mo couldn’t take it anymore. In their eyes, what kind of son had he been all these years? Why did being with him sound like a life of hardship? Actually, it wasn’t just Ye Mo who was dazed; Ye Xi was too. Ye Xi originally thought the Old Master called Ye Mo back for a serious lecture, but how did it turn into a “meet the parents” session?
“Uncle, Auntie, Grandpa Ye Mo is the best choice for me. I like him; I am very certain I like him. I am willing to accept everything about him. No matter what the future looks like or what difficulties we face, we will face them together. I will not let go of Ye Mo’s hand.”
As he finished speaking, tears began to well in An Yue’s eyes. She knew she had owed this child too much since he grew up. Seeing that he had found someone who loved him so much, she couldn’t help but be moved. “Xiao Jin, hearing you say that, I feel very relieved to hand Mo over to you.”
“Wait! Fourth Aunt, isn’t that a bit premature?” Ye Xi couldn’t sit still anymore. He couldn’t watch his brother end up like this, becoming something he found disgusting. “Perhaps this Dongfang Jin has his sights set on our Ye family assets and is intentionally clinging to Mo.” As soon as he said this, the faces of everyone in the room changed.
“Ye Xi! Shut up! Do you know what you’re saying? Apologize to Xiao Jin immediately,” said Ye Xi’s father, Ye Ge.
“Big Brother, those words are a bit much. Fourth Uncle and Fourth Aunt have already agreed, and Grandpa hasn’t said anything. How can you say that?” Ye Pei added.
“Ye Xi! Apologize right now!”
“What is wrong with all of you? Am I the only sane person in this whole family?” Ye Xi ignored the criticism and continued, “I’m doing this for Xiao Mo’s own good. What will people say in the future? That our Ye family ‘married’ a man?”
“Big Brother! You’re wrong! First of all, this isn’t for my own good; this is just what you think is good for me. I am an adult; I have my own judgment.” The long-silent Ye Mo finally spoke. “Secondly, I want to tell you: it’s not that the Ye family ‘married’ a man, but that the Ye family ‘gave away’ a man! Dongfang Jin has plenty of personal assets; he would never care about my money.”
“Xiao Mo! How old are you? What do you know?”
“Big Brother! I can distinguish between who is actually good to me and what ‘self-righteous love’ looks like.”
With that, Ye Mo ran upstairs back to his room. The scene fell into an awkward silence. Ye Xi excused himself, saying he had unfinished business at the company, while the rest of the Ye family worked to soothe Dongfang Jin’s emotions, not wanting him to have a bad impression.
“It’s bad! It’s bad! The Fourth Young Master has locked himself in his room and won’t come out no matter what!”
Everyone looked toward the servant, their pupils dilating. Dongfang Jin rushed straight upstairs to Ye Mo’s door. “Mo! It’s me! Open the door!”
