Lu Wei was startled. Even without looking up, she could feel Chen Yushu’s gaze on her. She quickly swiped to the next video.

“Want to know what your true sexual orientation is?”

Lu Wei panicked, frantically pressing the volume buttons. Instead of lowering the sound, it suddenly blared louder. Her face flushed red with embarrassment, and she simply turned off her phone.

Finally, the torturous noise stopped.

The room fell into abrupt silence. Lu Wei’s heart raced wildly, and she wished she could find a hole to crawl into, lie peacefully in a coffin, and wait for death.

Hearing the commotion, Chen Yushu’s grip on her phone tightened. Could it be that Lu Wei had noticed something? Was that why she had been acting strange these past few days?

Her breath hitched for a moment, but she maintained a calm expression and asked, “Why are you taking that test?”

The inevitable had arrived. Lu Wei bit her lip, gathered her thoughts for a moment, then looked up with an innocent and confused expression. “No idea. It just popped up. So weird, why would they recommend this to me?”

Chen Yushu glanced at her, relieved but with a faint ache in her heart. “Yeah, stop scrolling. Then it won’t recommend it anymore.”

“Mm,” Lu Wei nodded, secretly observing Chen Yushu’s expression. Unable to resist, she probed further, “By the way, does your phone recommend stuff like this to you?”

“Good doggy, good doggy…” Chen Yushu rewatched the video several times before reluctantly scrolling down. Two more adorable corgis appeared. Even though she hadn’t followed them, she was already very familiar with them.

Just then, the other side of the bed dipped slightly. She looked up and saw Lu Wei kneeling by the edge, handing her the phone. “Chen Yushu, look.”

“What?” Chen Yushu, still wrapped in the blanket, leaned in for a closer look. It was a photo of Bread, lying on the floor chewing on a toy she had bought for him a while ago. Her heart instantly melted. Taking the phone, she zoomed in on the picture. “Who took this for you?”

“My mom. She thought it was cute and snapped it to send to me.” Lu Wei’s gaze shifted to Chen Yushu’s face, and she nervously bit her lip. “There’s a video after this.”

Chen Yushu’s eyes lit up as she swiped to the next clip. In the video, Bread was pawing at someone’s pant leg with his short legs, his furry head facing the camera. His eyes were wide and watery, occasionally licking his nose while whimpering softly.

Soon, half a duck neck appeared in the frame. After teasing him for a moment, it was given to him. Bread grabbed the treat, immediately turned around, placed it on the floor, and began crunching away, leaving only his fluffy rear end in view.

After watching it once, Chen Yushu turned up the volume and played it again from the beginning, her smile growing even brighter. “Bread is so adorable.”

Seeing this, Lu Wei felt her heart swell with warmth and satisfaction, and she couldn’t help but smile too. “When we go back for summer break, we’ll have to take him to get his fur trimmed.”

The air seemed to thicken, pressing in on them. Lu Wei suddenly felt short of breath and hurriedly retreated to the sofa, racking her brain for a topic to ease the awkwardness. “Um, by the way, are you going home for May Day?”

Chen Yushu glanced at her in surprise. “That’s over a month away. Let’s talk about it then.”

“Right.”

The conversation died as abruptly as it started. Lu Wei fidgeted with her phone case, feeling as if she were sitting on pins and needles. Unable to bear it any longer, she pretended to have an urgent need to use the bathroom and escaped into the restroom.

Chen Yushu stood up and walked toward her. “Give me your clothes.”

“Huh?” Lu Wei’s eyes widened in shock, her hands instinctively moving to cover her chest. “Wh-what?”

Frowning impatiently, Chen Yushu clarified, “Take them off inside and hand them to me.”

Even so, Lu Wei still felt uneasy. The bathroom door was made of frosted glass, and though blurred, a silhouette could still be seen from the outside.

“Forget it.” Chen Yushu thought about it for a moment and also felt it was inappropriate. She quickly turned around and hurried back to the bed. “Just leave it on the cabinet outside. Oh, and I brought shampoo and body wash you can use mine.”

“Okay.” It had originally been a casual excuse, but now she had no choice but to grit her teeth and take another shower. Little did anyone know she had already showered just this morning!

Once inside the bathroom, she initially planned to just rinse off quickly. But then it suddenly occurred to her that she would be sleeping with Chen Yushu tonight, and her stomach tightened nervously.

The door was suddenly knocked on, followed by Chen Yushu’s furious voice, “It’s been an hour and a half! Aren’t you done yet? Are you picking fleas off yourself?”

Lu Wei was startled. As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw a dark shadow outside the glass door. The door wasn’t locked it could be opened with a simple twist. She hurriedly asked, “What’s wrong?”

“I need to use the bathroom. Hurry up!”

“Okay, I’ll be done right away!” Lu Wei quickly reached for the showerhead. In her haste, she knocked over the body wash on the counter, and it fell to the floor with a dull thud.

“Are you okay?” Chen Yushu asked anxiously, her hand instinctively gripping the doorknob.

Lu Wei bent down to pick it up. When she looked up, she saw the figure outside the door had moved much closer, as if about to burst in at any moment. She froze, suddenly unsure of what to do.

“Lu Wei?” Hearing no response, Chen Yushu hesitantly turned the doorknob and slowly pushed the door open.

“Wait! Don’t come in!” Lu Wei shouted hurriedly. “I’m fine, I’ll be done soon!”

The sound of rushing water filled the room. Hearing this, Chen Yushu relaxed. “Mm, got it.”

Once Chen Yushu had left, Lu Wei leaned weakly against the wall, catching her breath for a moment before quickly rinsing off the remaining suds. Wrapping herself in a towel, she stepped out of the bathroom and said to Chen Yushu, “I’m done. You can go now.”

Chen Yushu gave her a quick glance before rushing into the bathroom.

Is there something on my face? Lu Wei took out a small mirror and examined herself carefully. Her skin was a bit dry, there was a small pimple on her forehead, and her hair She frowned in distaste, feeling like everything was wrong.

Putting the mirror down, Lu Wei rummaged through her bag and pulled out a face mask, toner, lotion, serum, and more.

When Chen Yushu came out, she saw Lu Wei wearing a face mask and sitting on the bed, applying body lotion. The nightstand was covered with an array of bottles and jars.

After finishing with the body lotion, Lu Wei removed the face mask and applied the remaining essence to her neck and feet.

Chen Yushu sat on the sofa, silently watching Lu Wei. She saw her pick up a bottle of facial mist, spritz it on her face, then pick up another bottle, squeeze some into her palms, rub them together, and pat it onto her skin. And then another.

Finally done with her face, she moved on to her teeth brushing, applying whitening strips, using mouthwash.

Chen Yushu tilted her head in confusion. Where did she get all this stuff?

Lu Wei squeezed out a large dollop of hand cream, slathered it on evenly, and put on disposable gloves. Then she applied a thick layer of lip mask to her lips.

Chen Yushu watched her go back and forth like this, various fragrances wafting into her nose. She couldn’t help but sigh. “Peacock.”

“What did you say?” Lu Wei was applying lipstick and asked somewhat indistinctly.

“Just saying you’re so meticulous.”

“Really?” Lu Wei pressed her lips together, pulled out a mirror to examine herself carefully, then nodded in satisfaction.

Chen Yushu shook her head in amusement. “Are you done yet? If so, hurry up and sleep all that moving around is making my eyes hurt.”

“Mm-hmm.” Lu Wei nodded, put away the mirror, climbed into bed a bit nervously, pulled the covers over herself, and lay down obediently.

Chen Yushu turned off the light and, glancing back, was surprised to see Lu Wei lying neatly on one side, raising an eyebrow in mild astonishment.

Soft breathing sounds filled the air. In the tranquil night, her thoughts began to drift uncontrollably. As soon as she closed her eyes, scenes from the day flooded her mind. She had already come to terms with the fact that she liked Chen Yushu, but what should she do next?

It seemed a bit challenging.

Lu Wei sighed and slowly sorted through her options. There were only two paths now: either pretend nothing had happened and remain best friends with Chen Yushu forever.
