How I Accidentally Bent My Best Friend - Chapter 45.2
Lu Wei bit her lip indignantly. “I’m not a social butterfly! I just turned them down and said I wanted to spend some alone time with you! I’m clearly, clearly a loyal and devoted person!”
By the time she reached the last sentence, Lu Wei faltered, feeling a bit guilty and somewhat embarrassed.
“Pfft.” Chen Yushu snorted coldly. “I don’t believe your nonsense.”
Hearing this, Lu Wei’s heart immediately fluttered with panic. Oh no, Chen Yushu didn’t believe her, what should she do? She couldn’t let this image of her solidify!
Chen Yushu: “Speechless now, aren’t you, peacock?”
Peacock?!
Lu Wei’s heart took another hit. She clutched her chest in pain. It seemed Chen Yushu really had a lot of grievances against her!
“What’s wrong with you?” Chen Yushu glanced at her. “Why are you putting on such a pitiful act?”
Lu Wei shook her head, bravely flipping the meat on the grill. It didn’t matter time would reveal a person’s heart. She would take it slow, and one day, she would make Chen Yushu see her sincerity!
When that time came, she would make sure Chen Yushu couldn’t live without her!
Thinking this, Lu Wei couldn’t help but smile happily.
Weird? Chen Yushu looked at Lu Wei, puzzled. What was going on with her today?
After finishing their meal, the two sat for a while before getting up to leave the barbecue restaurant. Outside, the snow had stopped, but the cold remained just as biting. A gust of wind blew past, stinging their faces.
Rubbing her hands and blowing on them, Lu Wei shivered and said, “Let’s go to the mall. It’s warm inside.”
Chen Yushu didn’t respond but sighed, taking Lu Wei’s hand and tucking it into her own pocket. “Prioritizing style over warmth you deserve to freeze.”
“Hehe.” Lu Wei’s heart swelled with joy, and she leaned closer to Chen Yushu. “Shushu, you’re so good to me~”
Chen Yushu curled her lip indifferently. “Cut it out.”
Seeing this, Lu Wei suspected she had been too reserved. No wonder Chen Yushu called her cold. With that thought, she immediately pressed her cheek against Chen Yushu’s and nuzzled it. “I mean it!”
“Get away from me.”
“No.” Lu Wei clung to her, planting a kiss on her cheek as she passionately declared, “Shushu, you’re the best. I like you the most, my dear Shushu~”
Chen Yushu dodged while wiping the wet spot on her face, complaining disdainfully, “Are you a dog in disguise? It’s disgusting! Your saliva is all over me!”
“How could it be disgusting? You haven’t even.” Lu Wei started to say, “You haven’t even tasted it,” but she caught herself just in time. Flirtatious, that was way too flirtatious!
Chen Yushu broke free and walked ahead without waiting for her.
Lu Wei, meanwhile, was still pondering: How could she be both passionate and not come off as flirtatious? This was truly a headache-inducing problem.
But given Chen Yushu’s personality, maybe what she minded wasn’t Lu Wei being flirtatious with her?
Lu Wei let out an understanding “oh.” That’s right between the two of them, how could it be described as flirtatious?
The mall was nearby, and they arrived quickly. The heating inside was strong, and after walking for a bit, they soon felt warm all over.
Chen Yushu took off her coat. As they passed a shop window displaying stuffed toys, she couldn’t help but glance at it a few more times.
It was a huge bear it would definitely be comfortable to sleep with. Following her gaze, Lu Wei called out to her, “Wait for me a moment.”
“Where are you going?” Chen Yushu called out, but before Lu Wei could answer, she had already dashed into a shop.
She hurried to catch up, waiting outside the display window, when unexpectedly, her eyes met the gaze of that plush bear again. She felt a slight desire for it, but it seemed she had outgrown such things it felt neither here nor there.
Just then, Chen Yushu saw a shop assistant take the plush bear away. Probably some parent buying it for their child, she thought, a faint, fleeting trace of envy flickering in her heart.
What was Lu Wei doing? Why wasn’t she coming out yet?
Chen Yushu glanced into the shop. There weren’t many customers, but there were quite a few staff members. If she went in, someone would likely approach her. After a moment’s thought, she decided to wait outside and planned to send Lu Wei a message.
She had just finished typing and was about to send it when she felt someone tap her shoulder. Turning around, a plush bear instantly filled her vision. She froze for a second, then whispered, “Lu Wei?”
“I’m not Lu Wei. Please call me Little Bear,” Lu Wei said in a deliberately cutesy, altered voice.
Chen Yushu burst out laughing, puzzled. “Why did you buy such a big bear?”
“You like it, don’t you?” Lu Wei peeked out from behind the bear, tugging at its ear. “Here, it’s for you. When I’m not around, let it keep you company while you sleep.”
“Ugh, then I’d have nightmares,” Chen Yushu said with a look of disdain, but as soon as she took the bear, the affection in her eyes became impossible to hide. “The bear is cute, though. Thank you.”
“Am I not cute?” Lu Wei huffed, though her eyes unconsciously lit up with joy.
But wait, had Chen Yushu called her stingy before? Lu Wei’s smile stiffened as she tried hard to recall.
Stingy?! Impossible! How could she possibly be stingy?
Unaware of Lu Wei’s inner turmoil, Chen Yushu hugged the bear lovingly, stroking it, already imagining how cozy it would feel to sleep with it at night.
She had to prove herself on this! Lu Wei’s expression turned resolute.
And so, from that point on, Lu Wei fully unleashed her spending power. Without even waiting for Chen Yushu to say she liked something, if she so much as glanced at it a few times, Lu Wei would wave her hand and buy it outright, much like the domineering female CEOs in some novels.
Gradually, Chen Yushu began to notice something was off. “What are you doing? Do you have so much money you don’t know what to do with it?”
Lu Wei tilted her chin up proudly, completely unfazed. “Long live liking things. Money is nothing ”
“Did you burn out your brain yesterday, or did you take the wrong medicine?” Chen Yushu was so angry her temples throbbed, and she dragged Lu Wei out of the store.
Lu Wei, small and helpless, let herself be pulled along, muttering under her breath, “Can’t I be a little more generous?”
“What did you say?” Chen Yushu snapped fiercely. “Say that again.”
Lu Wei immediately shook her head like a rattle drum.
Chen Yushu took a deep breath, fanning herself with her hand, and casually glanced toward a bubble tea shop.
“Ahem, can I at least buy a cup of bubble tea?” Lu Wei seized the moment to ask timidly.
Thinking Lu Wei was thirsty, Chen Yushu shoved the bear into her arms and said, “I’ll go buy it. You stay right here and don’t move. If you waste money again, I’ll hit you.”
“Why so fierce?” Lu Wei, holding the bear in one arm and carrying several shopping bags in the other, watched Chen Yushu’s retreating back and couldn’t help but smile. Oh well, fierce is fine it’s not like she’s leaving me.
Chen Yushu bought milk tea, and after returning, the two found a place to sit down and chatted leisurely.
Lu Wei fiddled with the wooden bead bracelet she had just bought, brought it under her nose to sniff, then extended her hand toward Chen Yushu. “It really has a fragrance. Smell it.”
“Really?” Chen Yushu leaned down and took a light sniff. “I don’t smell anything.”
“Get a little closer.” Lu Wei squeezed in next to Chen Yushu and raised her hand slightly. Chen Yushu’s nose and upper lips inadvertently brushed against her skin, sending a soft, tingling sensation.
“It does smell quite nice.” Chen Yushu sniffed again.
At first, Lu Wei didn’t think much of it, but as she looked at Chen Yushu’s brows and eyes, she suddenly felt certain spots on her wrist begin to heat up. As if guided by some inexplicable impulse, she tilted her arm slightly, and Chen Yushu’s lips landed squarely on it, like a kiss imprinted there.
In the next moment, she jerked her hand back as if shocked by electricity.
Lu Wei’s pupils trembled slightly, but before she could even process her own strange reaction, she heard Chen Yushu ask, “What time is it? Should we head back?”
“Oh, I I’ll check.” Lu Wei lowered her head to look at her phone. “It’s almost five. How about we grab dinner before going back?”
“I’m still full from lunch, not hungry yet.”
“Oh, then let’s go.” Lu Wei kept her head down, gathered her things, quickly stood up, and walked ahead, secretly letting out a sigh of relief.
By the time they took a taxi back to the university, the sky had already darkened, and Lu Wei had shaken off that strange state of mind.
“Give me your things, then hurry back to your dorm. Make some ginger tea to drink,” Chen Yushu said, stopping at the entrance to Lu Wei’s dormitory. “Did you hear me?”
“Mm.” Lu Wei nodded, then hesitated for a moment before asking, “Did you… have fun hanging out with me today?”
Why is she suddenly asking this? Chen Yushu gave her a puzzled look and replied, “Y-yes, I had fun.”
“That’s good.” Lu Wei actually wanted to ask if Chen Yushu liked her a little more now, but afraid of scaring her off, she could only ask this way. “I’m heading in now.”
“Mm, bye.”
“Bye!” Lu Wei smiled brightly, adhering to her warm and outgoing nature, and responded, “I had a great time today too, dear Shushu. See you tomorrow ”
Chen Yushu glanced back, her brows furrowing even more. Had Lu Wei really taken the wrong medicine today?
Before she could resolve her confusion, as soon as she returned to her dorm, she saw that Lu Wei had sent another bewildering picture.
