How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 86
Bai Weilan wanted to move back home, and no one could stop her. After all, it was her house to begin with.
Bai Juntang couldn’t find a reason to refuse. Thankfully, Bai Weilan’s attention was entirely on Sui Sui now. Even when the little one was asleep, she couldn’t take her eyes off her. That afternoon, they returned home in two separate cars.
This gave Bai Juntang a rare moment alone with Cheng Wan.
Before getting into the car, Cheng Wan had watched Aunt Pei carry Sui Sui into the other vehicle with Bai Weilan. She stood by the car for a long moment before climbing in to sit beside Bai Juntang.
As the car slowly moved forward, Bai Juntang gently held Cheng Wan’s hand and said, “Don’t worry. Aunt Pei and my mom really love Sui Sui. Older people just adore babies. Let them enjoy holding her for a while. Once we’re home, Sui Sui will still want to be close to you.”
Cheng Wan nodded and looked out the window at the car driving alongside them. The windows were tinted, so she couldn’t see what was going on inside.
Still, Bai Weilan’s behavior that day had given her some peace of mind. At least, it seemed like she truly liked Sui Sui and didn’t mind that she was an Omega.
Seeing how distracted Cheng Wan was, Bai Juntang felt uneasy. As she drove, she said, “I want to talk to you about yesterday.”
Cheng Wan turned her head, her dark eyes slightly misty, as if they were covered in a thin layer of fog.
“My mom has been living overseas for years. The last time she visited was more than six months ago, so she doesn’t really understand what’s going on with us,” Bai Juntang said as she gently squeezed Cheng Wan’s hand. “She misunderstood you, but I explained everything to her. What happened before was complicated, and I’ve been trying to make it right. So… please don’t be mad at me, okay?”
Cheng Wan lowered her head and didn’t reply.
At a red light, Bai Juntang lifted Cheng Wan’s hand and kissed her fingertips gently. “I’m not going to leave you.”
Maybe it was the sincerity in her voice, but Cheng Wan finally nodded. She looked up and softly said, “Thank you.”
“What are you thanking me for?” Bai Juntang leaned over and kissed her on the lips with a smile.
With everything about Sui Sui lately, they hadn’t had many moments of closeness. That simple kiss made Bai Juntang feel genuinely happy.
The traffic light turned green, and the car behind them honked impatiently. Bai Juntang had no choice but to let go of Cheng Wan’s hand and continue driving.
Cheng Wan’s mood improved during the ride, and before long, Bai Juntang pulled the car into the garage at home.
Cheng Wan had been sitting for too long and felt uncomfortable. Bai Juntang helped her out and brought the luggage inside.
Bai Weilan and Aunt Pei had arrived earlier. The house was already lively, with bags and boxes stacked high in the living room. Bai Juntang stood stunned at the sight.
“What’s all this?” she asked, eyeing the mountain of luggage with suspicion.
Without even looking up, Bai Weilan replied, “That’s all my stuff. You can figure out which room suits me best later.”
She continued playing with Sui Sui, who was lying on the sofa giggling happily as Bai Weilan wiggled a toy above her.
Bai Juntang looked helplessly at Cheng Wan. With two more postpartum nannies arriving that afternoon, the household would suddenly have seven people. No wonder Aunt Pei said they were short on space. It really did seem crowded now.
There was no getting Bai Weilan to leave, so they gave her the larger guest room on the second floor.
The two young nannies were assigned to Cheng Wan’s former room on the first floor, while Cheng Wan and Bai Juntang would now share the master bedroom.
Sui Sui’s nursery was already prepared. The room was decorated in a lovely orange theme, filled with sunlight and even had a spacious little balcony. Of course, she couldn’t stay there alone just yet, so the nannies would take turns watching her.
The house was a mess all afternoon. Aunt Pei was busy organizing rooms, the nannies were moving in with their own luggage, and the three of them were constantly going up and down the stairs.
They still had to go to the big supermarket and baby supply store to get some essentials. After all the running around, it was finally evening before things settled down.
It was the first time in years that Bai Weilan had stayed in the house, and Aunt Pei didn’t know if her tastes had changed. She made the dishes she was best at. After setting the table, she and the nannies went to the kitchen to eat, giving the family of three their privacy.
Cheng Wan sat beside Bai Juntang but didn’t look well. She didn’t understand herself anymore. She had never been this sensitive, but ever since Bai Weilan arrived, her reactions had been unusually strong.
From the moment Bai Weilan commented on Sui Sui being an Omega, to the moment she placed that card on the table with such condescension—those things had unsettled Cheng Wan deeply.
So when they sat together at the dinner table, Cheng Wan felt completely out of place.
Bai Juntang noticed and quietly placed some of Cheng Wan’s favorite dishes into her bowl. “You just got discharged. Eat a little more. Your body still needs time to recover.”
Across the table, Bai Weilan glanced at her and casually added, “Yes, eat up.”
Cheng Wan picked up her chopsticks and forced herself to eat a few bites, but she had no appetite. After just a couple of mouthfuls, she couldn’t eat anymore.
Bai Juntang saw this and asked softly, “What’s wrong? You’ve barely eaten these past couple of days. Are you not feeling well?”
Cheng Wan felt like she couldn’t sit there any longer. She didn’t like being around Bai Weilan. Every part of her felt like it was rejecting the woman’s presence, but she couldn’t say that out loud. She could only grit her teeth and bear it.
“No, I just don’t have much of an appetite today,” she mumbled, staring down at her fingertips. “I’m a bit tired. I want to rest.”
Bai Juntang stood up and told Bai Weilan before leading Cheng Wan upstairs.
Once they reached the second floor, out of sight from the dining room, Cheng Wan’s expression finally eased. She looked down the hallway toward the room where the light was still on and instinctively walked toward it.
Bai Juntang held her hand and noticed that she wasn’t heading toward their bedroom. She smiled and quickened her pace. “You want to see Sui Sui?”
“Yes,” Cheng Wan answered honestly. “I want to check if she’s had her milk.”
Bai Juntang gently touched her cheek and kissed her softly.
“I’ll come with you,” she said, smiling, and led Cheng Wan into Sui Sui’s room.
The nursery was warm and softly lit in cheerful orange tones. One of the nannies was gently rocking Sui Sui, and when the couple walked in, she smiled and said, “She just finished her milk. Do you want to hold her?”
Cheng Wan’s eyes lit up. She walked over and looked down at her daughter.
The little girl was starting to open her eyes more often now. Her rosy lips were slightly parted, and her round black eyes sparkled like grapes. When Cheng Wan came close, Sui Sui looked straight at her and didn’t look away.
“Oh, she’s looking at her mommy!” the maternity nurse said with a smile. She gently handed little Sui Sui to Cheng Wan and helped her sit on the bed. “She just finished feeding. Mommy can help her burp now.”
“Burp her?”
Cheng Wan remembered the nurse had mentioned that babies need to burp after drinking milk. The maternity nurse placed the baby on Cheng Wan’s shoulder and patiently showed her how to gently pat the baby’s back to help her burp.
Sui Sui rested softly on Cheng Wan’s shoulder, her little head tilted to the side. Since she couldn’t see her mother anymore, she turned toward Bai Juntang. Her big round eyes looked curiously at Bai Juntang. Cheng Wan gave her a couple of light pats, and Sui Sui let out a small milky burp in Bai Juntang’s direction.
Bai Juntang looked at little Sui Sui and thought her daughter was absolutely adorable. Even though she was so tiny and still smelled strongly of milk, Bai Juntang thought she looked just like Cheng Wan.
“That was a big burp~” the nurse teased Sui Sui and smiled at her. “Now that you’re full, do you want to play with Mommy for a while?”
Sui Sui smacked her lips a few times, as if she was agreeing.
Neither Bai Juntang nor Cheng Wan had experienced anything like this before. They felt amazed. Babies really were such fascinating little beings.
Cheng Wan held Sui Sui in her arms. Even though she didn’t really know how to play with her, just looking at her made her feel happy. The discomfort she had felt earlier at the dinner table disappeared completely.
Bai Juntang stood nearby, looking at Sui Sui. She leaned in slightly and said, “She smells so strongly of milk.”
The nurse chuckled while cleaning up. “That’s how newborns are. Right now they smell a bit sour and funky, but once they grow a little, they smell sweet, like a little cheese snack.”
The “little cheese snack” quietly lay in Cheng Wan’s arms. It was hard to tell if she was spacing out, but she stared straight at Cheng Wan without blinking.
Seeing how peaceful the moment was, Bai Juntang couldn’t resist sitting down beside Cheng Wan. She reached out and gently touched Sui Sui’s cheek.
“Were you feeling unwell today?” Bai Juntang asked while holding Sui Sui’s tiny hand. She looked at Cheng Wan and said, “Or… do you not feel comfortable living with my mom?”
Cheng Wan held Sui Sui close. After a long pause, she finally looked up and said, “I’m sorry…”
“You don’t need to apologize. This isn’t your fault,” Bai Juntang replied gently. “But she really wants to stay with us, and I don’t know how to make her leave. Maybe when you’re feeling a bit better, we can take a trip somewhere together.”
She pressed her forehead lightly against Cheng Wan’s. “We’ve known each other for so long but we’ve never gone on a real vacation. The autumn weather is perfect for traveling. We can leave the baby with my mom for a few days and go wherever we want.”
Cheng Wan looked at Bai Juntang. Deep down, she still felt conflicted.
She didn’t like Bai Weilan, and she knew Bai Juntang could sense it. Cheng Wan also realized that her feelings might not be fair, but it was hard to like someone who once offered her one hundred million yuan just to make her go away.
With the soft little baby in her arms, Cheng Wan thought for a while, then slowly nodded. “Let’s go on a trip when Sui Sui is a bit older.”
Maybe by then, her feelings would start to change.
She looked down at Sui Sui and wondered if her strong dislike for Bai Weilan was because she had just given birth. Maybe it was a kind of protective instinct, like she felt Bai Weilan was trying to take her baby away.
Once she made sense of those thoughts, Cheng Wan felt much more at ease. Since she would have to see Bai Weilan often, it was probably better to start adjusting now.
Just as Cheng Wan was cuddling and playing with Sui Sui, they suddenly heard a loud “pfft!” sound. The little girl froze for two seconds, then shut her eyes and started crying loudly.
The two new moms were completely stunned. They had no idea what had just happened. One moment the baby was fine, and the next she was crying her heart out.
“What happened?” Cheng Wan asked, confused, as she tried to comfort Sui Sui. “She was perfectly fine just a second ago!”
The nurse walked over, smiling. “She just passed gas. She probably scared herself. Don’t worry, I’ll take her and calm her down.”
Cheng Wan was still frozen in place as the nurse took Sui Sui from her arms.
What just happened?
Human babies can actually scare themselves by farting?
