How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 77
Bai Juntang didn’t forget about the invitation from the racing club. The past few days had been hot, but after a night of rain, today felt much cooler.
It was a perfect day to go out.
Aunt Pei looked at Cheng Wan, who was sitting by the door with her big belly. Bai Juntang was squatting next to her, helping her change her shoes. Aunt Pei spoke with concern, “Do you really need to go out?”
Cheng Wan turned to her with a gentle smile. “I haven’t been outside in so long. I really want to get some fresh air.”
Aunt Pei sighed, “Didn’t you take a walk in the neighborhood just last night? Your belly is so big now. What if someone bumps into you?”
She wasn’t overreacting. Just a short while ago, Cheng Wan had been in poor shape. She couldn’t eat properly or sleep well, and Aunt Pei had wanted to keep her safely at home until the due date.
Even though Cheng Wan’s condition had improved recently, her belly had grown noticeably. Her maternity clothes were no longer enough to hide it. Aunt Pei even joked she looked like she might float away like a balloon.
Seeing her worry, Bai Juntang smiled and reassured her, “There aren’t many people at the club, and I won’t take her anywhere crowded. We’ll just watch and come straight back.”
Aunt Pei looked at the two of them, still unsure. “Really?”
Cheng Wan nodded seriously. She was truly eager to get outside. Staying home every day was getting suffocating.
In the end, Aunt Pei gave in and reminded them, “Be careful, alright? There’s only a month left. You’re about to become a mom, and you still want to go out and play.”
Cheng Wan glanced at Bai Juntang and smiled. Holding hands, they walked out together.
In the car, Bai Juntang fastened Cheng Wan’s seatbelt, then gently cupped her cheek and gave her a kiss. “Aunt Pei was really worried. Now I’m wondering if bringing you to watch a race was the right idea.”
Afraid she might change her mind, Cheng Wan quickly held her hand and said, “I’m fine. You said there wouldn’t be many people, right? I’ve never seen a real race before. Please take me.”
Seeing her so eager, Bai Juntang laughed and leaned closer. “Alright, I’ll take you. But you have to give me a kiss.”
Cheng Wan was caught off guard and blushed. She looked away. “I…”
“Hm?” Bai Juntang gently held her chin and gave her a light kiss. “You’ve never kissed me first. How about I give you a chance now?”
Cheng Wan’s cheeks turned even redder. She knew Bai Juntang was teasing her, but after thinking for a moment, she leaned over and kissed her.
Bai Juntang expected a kiss on the cheek, but to her surprise, Cheng Wan kissed her lips. Before she could react, Cheng Wan pulled back.
“There, I kissed you,” Cheng Wan said with sparkling eyes. “Now can we go?”
Bai Juntang wasn’t going to let her off that easily. She pulled Cheng Wan into another kiss, longer and deeper.
Their lips met, and the air in the car grew warm and full of affection.
When she finally let go, Bai Juntang gently pinched her cheek and said, “Alright, let’s get going.”
During the drive, Cheng Wan kept looking around curiously. It had been so long since she went out that she had almost forgotten what the world outside looked like.
It was Cheng Wan’s first time visiting the Qiangu Racing Club. She always thought it was just a small, casual place where Bai Juntang had fun. But when she saw the huge stadium, her eyes lit up.
Bai Juntang slowed down the car so she could look around and began to explain, “That’s the grandstand. Inside is the track. This club was built to international standards. Besides daily training for racers, it also hosts national events from time to time.”
Aside from racing, the club also had professional swimming pools, diving platforms, basketball courts, and soccer fields. Sometimes there were large and small competitions, and it was even open to the public for fitness activities now and then.
Seeing so many people walking around in the summer heat, Cheng Wan realized how narrow her previous thoughts had been.
After parking the car in the club’s private lot, Bai Juntang helped her out. As soon as they got out, they heard the loud roar of engines, which made Cheng Wan jump.
Seeing her flinch at the sound of a passing car, Bai Juntang chuckled and gently touched her face. “It’s loud down here. Let’s go up to the grandstand.”
Cheng Wan patted her chest, still a bit shaken. “Is it crowded up there?”
“There’s no race today, just practice, so there shouldn’t be too many people,” Bai Juntang said, holding her hand. “It might be a bit warm up there, but you’ll get a full view. If it’s too hot, we can come down and watch from closer. That’s nice too.”
Cheng Wan nodded and followed her out of the parking lot.
They didn’t disturb any of the club staff. Bai Juntang led her up to the grandstand. There was a canopy overhead, but it was still hot under the sun.
Since Cheng Wan was in the late stages of pregnancy and sensitive to heat, Bai Juntang handed her a bottle of cold water and found a shady spot for them to sit.
Several race cars were speeding along the track. Cheng Wan didn’t understand the techniques, but she could tell who was in the lead. A silver race car with the Qiangu logo was far ahead of the others, putting four or five car lengths between itself and the second car. From the looks of it, it would gain even more distance after the next turn.
Aside from the two of them, a few others were in the grandstand. Some young girls who looked like fans were sitting in the front row holding signs. Every time the silver car sped past, they stood and cheered loudly.
Even though it was hot, Cheng Wan found it bearable. It was her first time watching a race, and everything felt fresh and exciting.
She didn’t know how many laps the cars had done, but soon the race seemed to end. The silver car crossed the finish line first.
When all the cars stopped, staff members came over to help the drivers and bring them water.
Everyone’s attention was on the silver car. Cheng Wan saw the door open and a racer in a red and white suit step out.
Even from a distance, Cheng Wan clearly saw her remove her helmet, tuck it under her arm, and brush back her hair. Her face was bright and clean.
It was Mu Ruchu.
This was the first time Cheng Wan had seen her in racing gear. The red and white outfit showed off her tall, slender figure. With her long legs, narrow waist, and dyed wolf-cut hairstyle, she looked confident and cool. If Cheng Wan didn’t already know she was an Omega, she might have mistaken her for an Alpha.
Bai Juntang’s eyes were also lit up. After watching the training session, she could tell that Mu Ruchu still had real skill.
Even though she hadn’t raced in six months, her control over the car in both turns and straightaways was impressive. With more practice, she would likely return to her best form soon.
Seeing the training was finished, Bai Juntang stood up and said to Cheng Wan, “Let’s go down.”
Cheng Wan nodded, stood up from her seat, and held onto Bai Juntang’s hand. As the two of them walked around the side of the grandstand, heading toward the stairs, they suddenly noticed someone standing on the other side.
It was Chi Mu.
She had come too.
Right now, Chi Mu wasn’t sitting in a seat but leaning against the railing at the front row of the grandstand. One hand was extended over the rail, and the other held a cigarette between her fingers.
She had already seen Bai Juntang and Cheng Wan approaching, but she didn’t feel like talking. She only glanced at them briefly before turning away, continuing to watch Mu Ruchu chatting with others near the track.
Even now, Chi Mu still couldn’t accept the truth—that Mu Ruchu, who had been by her side for so long as her driver and assistant, was actually an Omega… and not a member of the Death Cult, as she had once believed.
Mu Ruchu had personally invited her to today’s training session. Chi Mu had said no, but in the end, she still came.
She watched Mu Ruchu race confidently around the track, overtaking others with ease and leaving them far behind.
Even the way she stepped out of the car, holding her helmet under one arm and flipping her hair back, made Chi Mu’s heart skip a beat.
Something felt wrong.
Very wrong.
Chi Mu scratched her head in frustration. She couldn’t explain what exactly was off, but she couldn’t shake the feeling either.
There was a strange itch in her chest, like something just under the surface that she couldn’t reach.
She stood there, smoking hard, eyes locked on Mu Ruchu in the distance. Her heart felt a mess, full of emotion she didn’t know how to process.
Just then, someone called out to her.
Chi Mu turned and saw Bai Juntang, standing across from her with Cheng Wan, who was clearly in the late stages of pregnancy.
Bai Juntang said casually, “The training session’s over. Aren’t you going down to take a look?”
Chi Mu’s eyes flicked over to Cheng Wan, and she immediately felt uncomfortable. Just seeing an Omega made her skin prickle. She couldn’t forget what had happened when she landed in the hospital after trying to prove she was allergic to Omega pheromones. She had even grabbed Cheng Wan’s wrist at that time.
Even though it had just been a wrist, the memory still made her uneasy. With a cold expression, she said, “What’s there to look at?”
Bai Juntang gave her a sideways glance. “If you don’t want to see Mu Ruchu, I won’t force you.”
Then she turned and continued walking down the stairs with Cheng Wan.
But not long after, Cheng Wan leaned in and whispered, “She’s following us.”
Bai Juntang looked back. Sure enough, Chi Mu was walking down behind them. Their eyes met for a second before Chi Mu quickly looked away, frowning. Bai Juntang couldn’t help but laugh quietly.
So stubborn, yet clearly curious.
Once the three of them reached the track level, there were already quite a few people gathered. Everyone was thrilled to see Mu Ruchu back, crowding around her, chatting and congratulating her.
When Mu Ruchu saw Bai Juntang, she waved excitedly. Then her eyes shifted and landed on Chi Mu behind them. She paused for a moment, clearly surprised.
“President Bai,” the club manager came over, smiling brightly when he saw Cheng Wan. “This must be your wife?”
Cheng Wan blushed instantly. She moved closer to Bai Juntang, slightly shy, and greeted everyone softly, “Hello…”
Bai Juntang, noticing her discomfort, waved her hand at the manager and said, “Don’t scare her.”
The manager chuckled and backed off, not taking offense.
Once he stepped away, Mu Ruchu walked over to greet Bai Juntang. “You made it. Did you see how I did?”
“I did. You were great,” Bai Juntang said, giving her a firm pat on the shoulder. Her eyes were full of admiration. “Next year will be your time to shine.”
Mu Ruchu nodded seriously, then looked past her at Chi Mu and smiled politely. “President Chi, you came too?”
Chi Mu didn’t look happy. Her gaze toward Mu Ruchu was strange, like she was confused and trying to figure out how she felt.
