How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 67
Even though Mu Ruchu had done a good job hiding it, Cheng Wan still had a feeling that she wasn’t an alpha. It seemed like Mu Ruchu had used some kind of suppressant to mask her scent, making it impossible for both alphas and Omegas to detect anything.
But Cheng Wan could just sense it—Mu Ruchu felt like an Omega. And not just any Omega, but a very capable one. Otherwise, Bai Juntang wouldn’t treat her with so much importance.
Cheng Wan had considered whether there might be something ambiguous between the two of them. But so far, Bai Juntang hadn’t done anything inappropriate, and Cheng Wan’s doubts felt unfounded even to herself.
Bai Juntang kept driving in silence for a while before letting out a quiet sigh. She reached out and gently patted Cheng Wan’s head.
“She is an Omega,” she said. “But her boss doesn’t know. So let’s help her keep it a secret, okay?”
Cheng Wan looked at her in confusion.
Bai Juntang explained, “Ruchu was a professional racecar driver. She was incredibly talented. If nothing had gone wrong, she probably would’ve won the world championship this year. But right before the race, the association changed the rules and banned Omega racers. It hit her hard.”
“So she disappeared, hid her identity, and started working as someone’s driver. I understand why she did it,” Bai Juntang said. “She has her reasons.”
What she didn’t say out loud was that no matter what Mu Ruchu had planned, she would come back eventually.
Even a month without driving could dull your skills, let alone the long break Ruchu had taken. Bai Juntang didn’t want to see the best racer she had ever trained lose everything because of her gender. If Ruchu wanted to return to her peak, she’d need at least six months of non-stop training.
Cheng Wan had never heard any of this before. Bai Juntang didn’t hide anything and told her everything directly.
She knew Cheng Wan was also an Omega and would understand Ruchu’s situation—and want to help her.
Sure enough, her sweet and kind-hearted fiancée looked deeply moved after hearing the story. Cheng Wan nodded earnestly and said, “Of course I’ll keep her secret. I won’t tell anyone, I promise.”
Bai Juntang couldn’t help but smile at her serious expression, her eyes softening with amusement.
The rest of the drive was quiet. When they got home, Bai Juntang let Cheng Wan go inside to rest first since it was hard for her to move around. Then she parked the car in the garage herself.
Just as she was getting ready to grab the bags and head inside, her phone rang.
She glanced at the screen and saw it was Li Chen. Thinking there might be an issue with the bakery deal they had just discussed, she answered quickly.
“President Bai,” Li Chen said on the other end, “I didn’t get the chance to bring this up earlier. Is Miss Cheng with you now? I need to talk to you about the status of her lawsuit to sever ties with the Cheng family.”
“She’s not here,” Bai Juntang replied, frowning. “What’s going on?”
“Well,” Li Chen said, sounding cautious, “adoption and termination of guardianship for Omegas is more complicated. When Cheng Jia Jian and Xu He adopted her, they signed a special agreement. We’re still gathering evidence, but from what we know, they’re not likely to agree to let her go.”
Bai Juntang’s voice tightened. “Is it really that difficult to file a termination petition?”
“It is, unfortunately,” Li Chen said. “The lawyers say there are only two ways it can work. One, both adoptive parents sign the termination papers willingly. That would count as a mutual agreement. Two, one or both of them must be convicted of a serious crime and sent to prison. Only then would Cheng Wan’s petition be valid on its own.”
Bai Juntang’s expression darkened. “So there’s no way to do it without one of those two options?”
“I’m afraid not,” Li Chen replied.
“Alright. Got it.”
After a pause, Bai Juntang said coldly, “Cheng Jia Jian is on the run, dodging debts. He’s been involved in shady things for years. Pull some strings. I want him found—and personally sent to prison.”
By the time she stepped out of the car, her expression was calm again.
Bai Juntang wasn’t someone who took insults lightly. If someone pushed her, she’d push back twice as hard. She also had a fierce protective streak, something that ran deep in her family.
Anyone who hurt her wife even a little? She would happily flip their entire world upside down.
Still, when it came to the people she loved, she was full of warmth and care.
She didn’t want to see Cheng Jia Jian anywhere near Cheng Wan ever again. Even if it was just for her peace of mind, Bai Juntang was determined to see him behind bars.
She carried the bags of pastries into the house. Cheng Wan had been hot and sweaty from being outside, so she had gone straight to shower. While she was in the bathroom, Bai Juntang quietly put all the desserts in the fridge.
It was summer, and chilled cakes were refreshing and satisfying. But looking at how full the fridge was, Bai Juntang realized there was no way Cheng Wan could finish everything in a week. She took some out and texted Mu Ruchu, telling her to swing by and pick them up later.
They had originally planned to eat out, but since it was a weekend and the malls were packed, and Cheng Wan’s belly made walking around harder, staying home felt like the safer option.
While blowing cool air under the fan and petting their cat, Bai Juntang scrolled through her phone, browsing food delivery options. Earlier, she had seen Cheng Wan lingering in front of a grilled fish restaurant for a few extra seconds. So, she looked up the nearest one and ordered grilled fish for three, packed and ready to be delivered.
Cheng Wan didn’t stay in the shower long. With her belly growing larger, even a short walk left her tired. The doctor had told her not to overexert herself, so most of the time, she stayed resting at home.
After a quick rinse, she stepped out of the bathroom, casually drying her hair with a towel.
Bai Juntang saw her come out and waved her over.
“What is it?” Cheng Wan asked, still damp from the shower, as she walked over and sat beside her on the couch.
“I just ordered grilled fish,” Bai Juntang said, reaching out to ruffle her damp hair. “It should be here in about twenty minutes.” She paused, breathing in the faint scent of milk from Cheng Wan’s body wash, her gaze soft. “Why didn’t you dry your hair before coming out?”
“Blow-drying is such a hassle,” Cheng Wan replied. She never liked using a hair dryer—it always felt too hot. Usually, she just dried it as best she could with a towel and let the rest air-dry.
It took a while, but she preferred it that way.
Bai Juntang noticed the drops of water still clinging to Cheng Wan’s neck and shoulders, the soft scent of her body wash hanging in the air. She couldn’t help but lean a little closer.
“You’ll catch a cold if you sit in the air-conditioning like this.” She gently took the towel from Cheng Wan and shifted closer, wrapping her arms loosely around her from behind. “Let me help you dry your hair.”
Cheng Wan didn’t think much of it and nodded, settling in front of Bai Juntang and turning on the TV.
Behind her, Bai Juntang placed the towel gently over her head and started rubbing her scalp with her fingertips. The touch was light but soothing. The top of the head was always sensitive, and the soft rhythm of Bai Juntang’s hands made Cheng Wan feel cozy and relaxed.
It had been a rare day out, and Cheng Wan was in a good mood. Though tired, she felt content. Snuggled on the couch, resting against Bai Juntang’s chest, she let herself enjoy the moment.
A talk show played on the TV, filling the room with the sound of cheerful laughter.
Cheng Wan didn’t really follow what was being said. She half-closed her eyes, letting the warmth and comfort surround her.
Bai Juntang, however, couldn’t take her eyes off her. Her gaze fell on Cheng Wan’s slender neck, still slightly damp, and the subtle scent of soap and milk lingered in the air. She found it hard to look away from the soft curve of Cheng Wan’s gland, barely visible beneath her hair.
Cheng Wan’s skin was pale, and the faint blush of her gland stood out. Just a month ago, Bai Juntang had left a mark there. She hadn’t expected it to fade so soon.
Her gaze grew warmer. Her hands slowed down as she ran the towel through Cheng Wan’s hair.
Sensing the change, Cheng Wan tilted her head slightly and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Bai Juntang didn’t answer immediately. Her eyes were dark and intense as she set the towel aside. Sliding her arms under Cheng Wan’s, she pulled her into a full embrace.
Cheng Wan blinked, surprised, and looked down at Bai Juntang’s hand resting on her belly.
“What is it?” she asked again, a bit puzzled.
“Nothing,” Bai Juntang said quietly, her lips brushing against the back of Cheng Wan’s neck. “I just wanted to hold you for a moment. You smell really nice.”
Cheng Wan’s cheeks turned red. She felt the warmth of Bai Juntang’s breath on her skin and stammered, “Is it… just the body wash? It’s the same one we always use…”
“Maybe,” Bai Juntang murmured, holding her lazily, her hand gently caressing Cheng Wan’s stomach. “But today it feels especially nice.”
She lowered her head, placing a soft kiss beside Cheng Wan’s gland.
Cheng Wan shivered slightly. Her whole body flushed, warmth rising to her ears. From Bai Juntang’s view, her pale skin had turned a light pink, tender and inviting.
Without letting go, Bai Juntang leaned in again and gently kissed the back of her neck. This time, her lips lingered longer, and a small mark bloomed on Cheng Wan’s skin.
Cheng Wan felt the heat rise through her. Her breath caught in her throat. She didn’t resist, just sat there, letting Bai Juntang press her lips to her skin.
Seeing the soft red flush on her neck, Bai Juntang’s heart stirred. She took Cheng Wan’s hand and gently turned her to face her.
Cheng Wan’s face was as red as a peach. She couldn’t meet her gaze.
“What’s wrong?” Bai Juntang teased gently. “It was just a kiss. Why are you blushing so hard?”
Cheng Wan wanted to say, “That wasn’t just a kiss!” but she couldn’t get the words out. She just pouted, clearly a little embarrassed and maybe even a bit annoyed.
Bai Juntang loved that look. She smiled and leaned down, capturing Cheng Wan’s lips in a soft kiss.
Cheng Wan instinctively wrapped her arms around Bai Juntang’s shoulders. As their lips moved together, her heart raced. Her body tensed as Bai Juntang gently eased her down onto the sofa.
The shift made Cheng Wan’s world spin. She looked up at Bai Juntang, breathing unevenly, the sunlight around them almost too bright.
Bai Juntang let out a quiet laugh, then lowered her head again. This time, her kisses were tender—on Cheng Wan’s forehead, her nose, and finally, back to her lips.
All the warmth between them melted into that kiss, lingering and gentle, filling the quiet room with a quiet kind of joy.
