How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 68
The passionate kiss had left Cheng Wan out of breath. Lying down made it harder for her to breathe, especially with the weight of the baby pressing against her. Being intimate with Bai Juntang had become something that required real effort now.
Just as Bai Juntang lifted her skirt slightly and gently caressed her legs, Cheng Wan let out a soft, breathy sound.
Hearing it, Bai Juntang immediately stopped and looked down at her with concern. “What is it?” she asked gently.
Cheng Wan’s face was bright red. She couldn’t look at Bai Juntang, only held her belly and whispered, “Sui Sui kicked me…”
And it wasn’t a light kick either. It had landed right near her lungs, making her almost lose her breath. Now lying on the couch, she was still struggling to breathe. Clearly, continuing wasn’t an option.
Though Bai Juntang felt frustrated, she wouldn’t risk Cheng Wan’s comfort or health. She quickly helped her sit up and gently rubbed her back to help her breathe easier. “Feeling better?”
“Yeah.” Cheng Wan leaned into Bai Juntang’s arms, still blushing. She was too embarrassed to open her eyes and quietly muttered against her shoulder, “Sui Sui always kicks me. This time wasn’t on purpose.”
“I know,” Bai Juntang said softly. Her mood had been completely interrupted, but she couldn’t blame the baby. Just then, the doorbell rang. The grilled fish had arrived. She told Cheng Wan to rest while she went to get the delivery.
Cheng Wan sat on the couch, holding her belly, watching as Sui Sui wriggled inside. She sighed helplessly.
Just a little longer. Just hold on. After all, this baby was hers.
They had grilled fish for lunch. It was spicy, sour, sweet, and oddly flavored, but somehow still delicious. After eating, Cheng Wan took her usual afternoon nap.
Lately, she had been waking around five every morning because Sui Sui kicked her awake. After that, she couldn’t fall back asleep. To stay energized, she needed a nap in the afternoon.
While she slept, Bai Juntang caught up on work. She also contacted the racing club and asked them to have a proper conversation with Mu Ruchu about coming back.
When Mu Ruchu came by in the afternoon, Bai Juntang talked to her again. But she still didn’t give a clear answer. It seemed like she was still hesitant. Bai Juntang didn’t push. She handed her a bag of pastries and let her leave.
In the evening, Bai Juntang found herself standing in the kitchen, wondering what to make for dinner. She used to only be in charge of eating. She had never realized choosing dinner could be so hard.
Cheng Wan didn’t have any strong preferences either. After thinking for a while, they decided to video call Aunt Pei.
When Aunt Pei heard their reason, she laughed and sighed.
“How long have I been gone?” she said, half amused and half exasperated. “You’ve already called me so many times.”
She looked through the fridge via the camera. “Why are there so many little cakes? Did you buy them for Wanwan?”
“Yes,” Cheng Wan said from behind Bai Juntang. “That bakery’s pastries are really good. You’ll have to try them when you come back.”
“Oh, I’m too old for that sweet stuff,” Aunt Pei laughed. “You eat them. I’ll pass.”
“There are traditional ones too. Peach pastries, mung bean cakes, pumpkin pancakes. They’re not that sweet. You could eat those.”
“Alright, save me a couple. I see carrots in the fridge. Let’s make shredded pork in garlic sauce. I’ll teach you how to make the sauce. That’s the key part. You have to get it just right.”
As Aunt Pei began explaining how to make the dish in detail, Cheng Wan slipped away with two pieces of bread and sat in the living room to watch TV. Listening to the chatter and clinking sounds from the kitchen made her feel calm and happy.
Dinner ended up being a failed attempt at shredded pork in garlic sauce, along with a backup bowl of tomato and egg noodles. The pork tasted strange and neither of them could eat it, but they finished the noodles to the last bite.
Before bed, Bai Juntang worried that Cheng Wan might get hungry later. She gave her two more pastries just in case.
Even so, Cheng Wan still woke up in the middle of the night.
It wasn’t because she was hungry. She had been woken by the heat.
The AC was set at 25 degrees, but she still felt like she was burning. She tossed and turned in bed. Her nightgown, which had been dry earlier, was now soaked with sweat and clung to her skin, making her uncomfortable.
Lying there in the dark, staring up at the ceiling, Cheng Wan didn’t know what time it was. But her whole body felt like it was on fire, and she could barely breathe.
She thought about that unfinished kiss from earlier, and her heart beat faster. She hugged the blanket tightly and buried her face in the pillow.
Her breath felt hot. Her skin was tingling. Slowly, she realized what was happening.
She was going into heat again.
But it hadn’t even been a full month since the last one. Why now?
Struggling to sit up, Cheng Wan found her belly heavy and hard to move with. She fumbled for her phone, her hands shaking.
Her fingers could barely function. Her whole body was numb and weak. She unlocked her phone with great effort and saw that it was just after 1 a.m.
Everyone else was asleep. The world was quiet.
But she was in heat.
She tried to call Bai Juntang. Her hands trembled so much she could barely slide her finger across the screen. Her body ached and burned. She was close to breaking down.
Finally, she collapsed back onto the bed, barely able to hold the phone.
She had to call Bai Juntang. No matter how hard it was.
She was in heat. Without an alpha or suppressants, the symptoms could become dangerous. Her heats had always been regular. She’d taken precautions. She’d worn scent blockers since her secondary gender differentiated. Nothing like this had ever happened.
But pregnancy had changed everything. One surprise heat after another. She felt helpless.
Using the last of her strength, she managed to call Bai Juntang. The phone rang. Her fingers gave out. The phone slipped from her hand.
At that moment, Bai Juntang was still in the study, attending a global video conference. She hadn’t gone to bed yet. She was in the middle of a discussion with her team.
She saw her phone light up.
At first, she was about to decline the call. Then she saw the name on the screen—Cheng Wan.
Her expression changed immediately.
One of her colleagues on the call noticed and asked, “Is there something wrong with the project?”
Bai Juntang looked down at the screen in her hand. She spoke calmly to the people on the video call, “I’m sorry, something urgent came up. Please continue the discussion without me.”
She closed her laptop, picked up her phone, and opened the study door.
The moment the door swung open, a familiar scent hit her—sweet white peach. Instantly, every nerve in her body tensed.
Cheng Wan was in heat again.
Bai Juntang frowned. It had only been a month since the last time. Why was it happening again?
Even though she was confused, she knew Cheng Wan needed her right away. Without wasting another second, she walked straight to Cheng Wan’s room. She didn’t knock. She simply pushed the door open.
As soon as the door opened, the scent inside the room surged forward, many times stronger than outside. Bai Juntang nearly stumbled, barely managing to steady herself by grabbing the wall.
The motion sensor light flicked on, casting a faint glow across the dark room.
Under that dim light, Bai Juntang spotted Cheng Wan curled up on the bed. She wasn’t moving, lying there quietly.
“Cheng Wan,” she called softly.
She quickly stepped forward and gently gathered her in her arms. Cheng Wan’s skin was burning hot, her face completely flushed. Bai Juntang felt her heart clench as she held her.
Cheng Wan, barely aware of her surroundings, sensed she was being lifted. She struggled to open her eyes, the heat overwhelming her senses. It felt like something inside her was building up, growing stronger, as if it might burst at any moment.
“Bai Juntang…” she whispered faintly. Her fingers reached out and grabbed the hem of Bai Juntang’s clothes. Then she closed her eyes again, overwhelmed.
The sound of her name, soft and vulnerable, made Bai Juntang’s heart race. Maybe it was because she remembered their kiss on the sofa earlier that had ended too soon. Now, looking at Cheng Wan breathing unsteadily in her arms, she couldn’t stay calm.
Bai Juntang lowered her onto the bed. She placed a hand by her pillow, brushed her long hair aside, and leaned down to kiss her.
Cheng Wan’s soft body and warm breath made Bai Juntang lose control little by little. When she reached out and gently pulled aside her nightgown, she finally realized how easily Cheng Wan could shake her resolve.
There was no need for fancy words. Just hearing her name from Cheng Wan’s lips was enough to make her surrender completely.
That night felt endless.
They didn’t stop until the sky began to lighten. By the end, Cheng Wan was completely exhausted. Even though her heat had passed, she couldn’t even lift a finger. She had no idea when Bai Juntang left the room.
She slept straight through until the afternoon. When she finally woke up, she stared blankly at the ceiling, unsure of what time it was.
Her stomach was rumbling, and Sui Sui was already moving inside her, making it impossible to sleep any longer.
So hungry…
Cheng Wan licked her dry lips. As the blanket slipped down from her shoulders, she noticed the faint red marks covering her skin. She stared at them for a moment, stunned.
Then the memories came flooding back. She remembered going into heat in the middle of the night, calling Bai Juntang, and everything that followed.
Her face turned bright red. She didn’t dare think too deeply about it. She sat there in silence for a while, then slowly got up despite her sore and weak limbs and headed to the bathroom to wash up.
When she looked in the mirror, she was shocked. There were marks everywhere she could see—and when she turned slightly, she realized there were likely even more in places she couldn’t.
Cheng Wan scratched her head. Her face was still burning. She had never dated anyone before, never even liked someone. And now, everything had changed so fast. It left her feeling overwhelmed.
She put on a modest sleepwear set that covered most of her body. When she checked the time, it was already close to five in the afternoon. Normally, she ate often, and after last night’s exhaustion, she was beyond hungry.
When she opened the door, her first instinct was to look for Bai Juntang. But instead, she saw someone else moving in the kitchen.
“You’re awake?” Aunt Pei stepped out of the kitchen, holding a bowl of soup. She saw Cheng Wan standing there, dazed, and smiled. “You slept the whole day. Hungry? Come have some food.”
Cheng Wan glanced around the room but didn’t see Bai Juntang anywhere.
Aunt Pei chuckled. “Looking for Juntang?”
Cheng Wan’s face turned red again. She rubbed her fingers together awkwardly and asked, “Aunt Pei, why did you come back so suddenly?”
“I saw you two couldn’t even manage dinner yesterday. How could I stay home knowing that?” Aunt Pei replied. “I took the earliest train this morning and came right over.”
She waved for Cheng Wan to sit down and eat.
Cheng Wan drank the chicken soup quietly, watching Aunt Pei move around the kitchen. Her cheeks were still red, and her heart felt like it was fluttering.
Thank goodness it was only her and Bai Juntang at home last night.
If anyone else had been here… she would’ve died of embarrassment.
