How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 65
Cheng Wan’s petition to officially sever ties with the Cheng family was quickly handed over to the lawyer in charge. Given her current condition, she wasn’t able to follow up in person. Her belly was growing larger by the day. At first, her weight had increased slowly, but now it felt like she was gaining more almost daily.
When she first got pregnant, Cheng Wan had only gained a little weight. But now, she had put on nearly thirty pounds. Her belly had grown like a balloon, and even her limbs and face were noticeably rounder.
Besides the weight gain, her appetite had changed too. At the start of her pregnancy, she craved spicy food. But recently, she had developed a strong craving for sweets.
It might have started with the desserts Mu Ruchu had brought over. They were simply too good. That bag of cakes, bread, and cookies didn’t even last two full days. Cheng Wan had eaten every last bite.
Sometimes, she would finish them during the day. Other times, she would sneak out at night and grab a few more. Bai Juntang had caught her twice already.
After watching her finish the last piece of tiger roll, Bai Juntang asked, “I ordered your favorite fish head rice soup for dinner. Are you still going to have room for it?”
Cheng Wan licked her lips and nodded seriously. “Yes. I can still eat.”
Bai Juntang didn’t mind. As long as she had an appetite, she could eat. It wasn’t like they couldn’t afford it. But the one thing Bai Juntang didn’t know was where Mu Ruchu had gotten those desserts. And she had a few other things she needed to talk to her about too.
Until now, the two of them hadn’t had a proper conversation. Bai Juntang had been fully focused on helping Cheng Wan with everything involving the Cheng family. Now that those matters were settled, she had to figure out why her club’s top Omega racer had suddenly quit and started working as someone’s driver.
She found Mu Ruchu’s number and made the call. It rang for a while before the other side picked up.
“Hello?” Mu Ruchu’s voice sounded calm, like she already expected the call.
Bai Juntang didn’t waste time. “Where are you? I want to talk.”
“I’m driving. I should be home in about twenty minutes.”
“I see.” Bai Juntang paused, then asked, “Those desserts you brought over the other day, where did you get them?”
There was a long silence before Mu Ruchu replied, “They were a gift from my boss. Why?”
“They tasted great. I wanted to ask where they’re from. We already finished them.”
“I’ll send you the shop name and address later,” she said. “I’ll be home soon. We can talk then.”
The call ended quickly. Bai Juntang wondered for a second if something was wrong, but assumed it was just because Mu Ruchu was driving.
Lately, Cheng Wan had been enjoying a slow, relaxed routine. She ate, slept, and sometimes played with Guazi, their cat. Life was peaceful.
In about a week, it would be time for her next check-up. After that, they would need to start preparing for Sui Sui’s arrival. Bai Juntang was already thinking about taking her out to buy baby supplies.
Soon, she heard the sound of a car arriving. Guessing it was Mu Ruchu, she opened the door and stepped into the yard.
Unlike her own garage full of luxury cars, the neighbors only ever used one black business sedan. But this car had beautiful lines. Just one look told Bai Juntang that it was just as expensive as her Maybach.
The car parked in the neighboring yard. From the driver’s seat, Mu Ruchu stepped out wearing a tailored uniform. Then, she opened the rear door for the passenger.
Chi Mu stepped out with all the flair of a showy peacock. Her dramatic style didn’t match the low-key elegance of the car at all.
Mu Ruchu noticed Bai Juntang watching from the side and looked up to meet her gaze.
Chi Mu noticed too. She turned, rested her hand on her driver’s shoulder, and said with a smile, “Your old teammate is here to see you.”
Mu Ruchu gave her a look of quiet frustration. All she had done was pass along some desserts that Chi Mu had given her. Did that really deserve sarcasm the whole ride home?
Without saying another word, Chi Mu headed inside.
Mu Ruchu loosened the collar of her shirt and waved at Bai Juntang before walking over.
To be honest, Bai Juntang didn’t like this version of her. Sure, the uniform looked good on her, but in her heart, Bai Juntang believed Mu Ruchu belonged on a racetrack, not driving someone around.
It was a waste of talent.
“Just finished work?” Bai Juntang asked as they walked toward the house. She glanced back at her a few times. “That outfit doesn’t suit you.”
Mu Ruchu answered calmly, “Chi just finished dinner with clients. It’s been like this almost every night for the past two weeks. Tonight was actually an early one.”
“Did you eat?”
“I grabbed some fast food while waiting.”
Bai Juntang glanced sideways. “Mu Ruchu, why did you quit like that? You know my team could afford to keep you.”
Mu Ruchu looked at her silently. She had always felt guilty about leaving without a word. Back then, her mind had been in chaos. She thought she’d never race again. Disappearing had seemed like the easiest option.
But disappearing had been easy for her. It was Bai Juntang who had to clean up the mess she left behind. That guilt was what had kept her from reaching out.
And now, she didn’t even know how to start that conversation.
Seeing her go quiet, Bai Juntang didn’t push. She opened the door and led her inside. The weather was hot, and they needed a better place to talk.
As soon as they walked in, they saw Cheng Wan standing quietly near the entrance.
Mu Ruchu looked at her and suddenly realized that, despite meeting several times, she had never properly introduced herself. She gave a soft smile and greeted her, “Hello, I’m Mu Ruchu. I used to work under Juntang, and we’re friends. We met at the photo studio before. Do you remember me?”
Cheng Wan definitely remembered her. But she was naturally a bit shy, especially around people she wasn’t familiar with. Even though Mu Ruchu was Bai Juntang’s friend, she still felt a little nervous. She half-hid behind Bai Juntang and softly said, “I remember you. Hello, I’m Cheng Wan.”
Mu Ruchu chuckled lightly. “Back then, your face was swollen. I thought Juntang had bullied you. I even called her and scolded her for it. Later I realized I misunderstood. I hope that didn’t cause any trouble.”
Cheng Wan froze for a moment. She had always wondered why Bai Juntang had returned so suddenly during her business trip and why she wasn’t surprised about the injuries on Cheng Wan’s face. She used to think Aunt Pei might have told her, but if Aunt Pei had wanted to, she could’ve done it earlier. Why wait several days?
Now it made sense. It was Mu Ruchu who told her.
“There wasn’t any trouble,” Cheng Wan replied gently. After the two of them finished changing their shoes, she asked, “Would you like something to drink? I can grab something from the fridge.”
Bai Juntang looked at her with tenderness, gently squeezed her hand, and said, “Ruchu and I are going to talk in the study. You don’t need to bring us anything. Just relax, watch your show, or get some rest in the bedroom.”
Mu Ruchu smiled as she glanced at Cheng Wan’s pregnant belly. “Yes, don’t worry about us. You’re expecting, and it’s not convenient for you to be running around. We’re just chatting. You don’t have to serve us.”
Cheng Wan still looked like she wanted to say something, but Bai Juntang guided her gently back to the sofa and sat her down. She rubbed Cheng Wan’s cheek and whispered, “Be good. I’ll just talk to her for a bit and then come back.”
“Okay.” Cheng Wan nodded. She knew Bai Juntang needed to work at home, so she didn’t insist. Still, she reminded her gently, “Don’t talk too long.”
Bai Juntang smiled softly and kissed her on the tip of her nose before walking into the study with Mu Ruchu.
Once the heavy wooden door of the study closed, Bai Juntang sat down and casually motioned to the seat across from her. “Sit down, my favorite ex-employee.”
Mu Ruchu sighed and smiled bitterly as she sat down. Their eyes met across the desk.
“So,” Bai Juntang said calmly, “how long do you plan to keep working as her driver? This year’s world championship may have banned Omega racers, but many clubs have filed appeals. You still have fans. Are you really going to spend the rest of your life behind the wheel for someone else?”
Mu Ruchu stayed quiet. After a long pause, she finally said, “I don’t know what to do anymore. I really don’t know what comes next.”
She looked directly at Bai Juntang. “You know how things are with my family. I sold my house and my car. I’ve changed my name and identity. I just needed to stop and breathe.”
“I’m not against that. Honestly, I planned to give you a long break anyway,” Bai Juntang replied, her tone unusually gentle. “You can’t compete this year, but I’m working with Gangu to fight for change. If everything goes well, next year you’ll be back on the track.”
Banning Omegas from racing wasn’t just unfair—it violated ethics and equality. The sudden announcement had left them all unprepared. But now the backlash was growing, and the officials were facing pressure from every side. Bai Juntang believed things would turn around by next year.
“I don’t know how long your contract with Chi Mu lasts,” she continued, “but let’s be honest. Drivers are easy to replace. But you’re the only Omega in the world ranked in the top ten. No one else can take that from you.”
Mu Ruchu leaned back in the chair and said nothing.
“Resign,” Bai Juntang said, her tone firmer now. “Come back to Gangu and start training again.”
She opened a drawer, pulled out a bank card, and slid it across the table toward Mu Ruchu.
“There’s one million yuan on this card. I also bought back your house. I didn’t replace the car yet because I figured it was time for an upgrade. A professional racer driving a secondhand car doesn’t really fit the image, does it?”
Bai Juntang tilted her head slightly and smiled. “When you resign, give me a call. Everyone at Gangu is waiting for you to come back.”
At the same time, Cheng Wan sat on the sofa, watching a variety show while snacking on fruit. Every so often, she glanced toward the closed study door, wondering how long the conversation would take. Finally, it opened.
She saw Bai Juntang walk Mu Ruchu to the door. They exchanged a few words outside, but she couldn’t hear what was said.
When Bai Juntang returned, Cheng Wan stood up and threw her arms around her. She looked up and asked, “Did you get the bakery address?”
Bai Juntang’s hand froze slightly as she patted her head. It was clear she had forgotten, but she still smiled and pinched Cheng Wan’s cheek gently. “Of course. I’ll go buy them for you tomorrow, alright?”
Cheng Wan shook her head, eyes sparkling. “Let’s go together tomorrow.”
