How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 29
“Wanwan, have you seen this? This is the new company policy they just sent today,” Chang Le’s voice came through the phone as they were video calling.
Cheng Wan was lying on the bed, propping her head up, and looking at the photo Chang Le had sent. She asked in confusion, “What’s the purpose of this? What are they trying to do?”
“Who knows what that woman is thinking? We work for her, not to sell our bodies. Look at the workload these past few days. Luckily, you’re resting at home, or I would have to share it with you.”
“Sorry, am I causing trouble by resting?” Cheng Wan asked, feeling guilty.
Chang Le waved her hand dismissively. “Did you forget how you got sick? Honestly, you should apply for work injury compensation. Working overtime until you got gastroenteritis, isn’t there any justice?”
Seeing how upset Chang Le was, Cheng Wan tried to calm her down, “Don’t be mad. That’s the downside of being an employee. We get no respect anywhere.”
“Right, when I have money, I won’t work anymore. I’ll buy ten or so houses and become a landlord, living off rent and doing nothing all day.”
“Mm-hmm.”
At that moment, Chang Le noticed the little orange kitten sleeping next to Cheng Wan, and her eyes lit up. “Wow, what an adorable kitten! What’s its name?”
Cheng Wan gently stroked the kitten, which was curled up sleeping, and smiled at Chang Le. “Its name is Guazi. It’s probably an orange cat.”
“Mm-hmm, it’s a little orange kitten, but it’s got such a nice face. It seems a lot prettier than most orange cats.”
“Really? So, that means it’s a little beauty.”
The two of them then went on to discuss the kitten’s care and the joy of having a pet.
Chang Le, lying on the bed, said in a bored tone, “Will you be able to come to work tomorrow? It’s so boring without you here to help me slack off.”
“I should be able to go to work tomorrow. It’s pretty boring staying at home,” Cheng Wan replied. As she spoke, she heard the sound of a car outside the villa and glanced at the clock—it was already 10 p.m. “It’s getting late. You should rest early.”
Chang Le rolled over. “You should rest early too.”
After hanging up the phone, Cheng Wan picked up the kitten, which was lying sprawled out on her bed, and headed out. As she left the room, she saw Bai Juntang had already come in and was changing into slippers by the entrance.
Hearing the noise, Bai Juntang looked up at Cheng Wan and asked, “It’s so late, why aren’t you asleep?”
“I’m not tired yet.” Cheng Wan, holding the kitten, looked at her and asked, “Do you want some water?”
Bai Juntang nodded, and Cheng Wan gently put the kitten down and went to get her a glass of warm water.
Bai Juntang had been out all day for work and had only been coming home late at night. The two of them had barely seen each other, except for during breakfast.
Bai Juntang took a sip of her water and looked at Cheng Wan. “You’re going back to work tomorrow. I’ll take you there.”
Cheng Wan nodded. “Okay.”
The two of them fell into a quiet moment.
Cheng Wan wasn’t sure how to talk to Bai Juntang. Although they had known each other for a few months, they hadn’t spent much time talking.
By all rights, Cheng Wan should have been the one to avoid talking, considering their complicated relationship. Yet, for some reason, Cheng Wan found herself wanting to talk to Bai Juntang.
She wanted to know if Bai Juntang was tired from work, or what she was doing when she left early and came home late.
Cheng Wan didn’t need Bai Juntang to answer those questions—she could already sense how she was feeling just by the pheromone scent in the air.
The bond they shared, marked by their mutual pheromones, seemed to create a unique connection that others didn’t experience. Was this what people meant by “soul connection”?
Bai Juntang finished her water and then looked at Cheng Wan, noticing her sleepwear.
Since Bai Juntang had bought clothes for Cheng Wan before, she knew her size. Recently, she had bought quite a few things for her, so Cheng Wan wouldn’t have to go back to her family’s house to get more.
Today, Cheng Wan was wearing a silk nightgown, a pale pink one that reached down to her ankles. The long gown gave her a sense of warmth and security. The spaghetti straps showed off her smooth shoulders and long neck, and her collarbone was delicate and graceful. Bai Juntang couldn’t help but be drawn to her, and she quickly changed the subject, asking, “For lunch tomorrow, do you want to eat here or go out?”
Cheng Wan thought for a moment, her hands behind her back, then replied, “I want hotpot.”
Aunt Pei had been cooking very light meals for her, likely because she had just recovered from being in the hospital and couldn’t eat anything too heavy. These past few days, Cheng Wan had been enjoying fresh, light food.
But being young, Cheng Wan couldn’t help but crave something spicy and flavorful. Now that she wasn’t feeling sick anymore, she just kept thinking about eating something delicious.
“Hotpot for lunch?” Bai Juntang raised an eyebrow, looking at her. “Aren’t you worried about smelling like it when you go back to work?”
Cheng Wan thought about it for a second and was tempted to give in to the craving, but she realized that Bai Juntang might not want to eat something so messy and chaotic. So, she said, “I think I’ll ask a colleague to join me. The one who brought me to the hospital last time.”
“Alright,” Bai Juntang said. “I’ll pick you up for lunch at home, and then you can go with your colleague for dinner.”
“Okay.”
The meals for tomorrow had been arranged, but Cheng Wan still found it hard to move her feet. It seemed like she was becoming more and more drawn to the scent on Bai Juntang.
It wasn’t just Cheng Wan—Bai Juntang felt the same way.
At home, Cheng Wan rarely wore the pheromone-blocking patch, and Aunt Pei couldn’t detect the scent on her. In the beginning, Cheng Wan would try to be careful, but over time, perhaps out of laziness, she would often forget to wear it.
Wearing the patch while sleeping was uncomfortable, so after Cheng Wan took a shower, she simply stopped using it. Now, her skin was fresh and soft, filled with the delicate fragrance of white peach.
Bai Juntang felt her throat grow a little hoarse. She looked at Cheng Wan and said, “Come here.”
Cheng Wan stood still, not daring to move. But her eyes were fixed on Bai Juntang, making her feel an irresistible stir in her heart.
It had been several days since they last exchanged pheromones, hadn’t it?
Around ten o’clock at night, Bai Juntang felt as though she’d be missing out if she didn’t act on it. Seeing Cheng Wan hesitate, she stood up and walked over, wrapping her arms around her.
“Three times a week… I think it’s about time, don’t you?” Bai Juntang’s voice was soft, carrying just the right hint of flirtation.
Cheng Wan’s ears turned bright red, and she responded with a soft, barely audible “Mm.”
Bai Juntang then lowered her head naturally, capturing Cheng Wan’s lips in a kiss. They leaned against the cabinet by the entrance, exchanging their kiss.
Cheng Wan didn’t dare to move, gripping her nightgown tightly. Bai Juntang held her waist, pulling her closer into her embrace.
The soft kiss, mixed with the scent of each other’s pheromones, made Cheng Wan’s heart race uncontrollably.
The intense scent of fir wood from Bai Juntang’s lips flooded Cheng Wan’s senses, and the intertwining of their tongues left her feeling even more overwhelmed.
Cheng Wan felt a sharp pain in the glands at the back of her neck, pulsing in waves, as though she was waiting for Bai Juntang to bite her.
The soft sound of water splashing echoed in the hallway, and Cheng Wan’s face flushed a deep red. She reached out and gently pushed Bai Juntang away, turning her head slightly to catch her breath.
Bai Juntang watched her, her heart racing as if it might burst.
“We…”
Cheng Wan was about to say, “I think it’s enough,” when Bai Juntang gently cupped her chin. Before Cheng Wan could react, Bai Juntang kissed her again, catching her by surprise.
“Mmm…”
Cheng Wan took a step back, accidentally bumping into the heavy cabinet. Bai Juntang took advantage of the moment, pressing her against the cabinet and deepening the kiss.
To be honest, Cheng Wan and Bai Juntang had kissed several times before, and usually, they stopped once their pheromones were exchanged. But this time, even after the exchange, why did Bai Juntang keep kissing her?
Cheng Wan gripped Bai Juntang’s coat with both hands, her head tilting slightly back in discomfort. She could feel her body changing, a growing desire within her to let Bai Juntang claim her more directly.
It was a dangerous thought, but Cheng Wan couldn’t control it.
She felt Bai Juntang’s hand on her waist, gradually moving up her back, finally resting on the back of her neck.
Suddenly, Cheng Wan felt a surge of fear.
It was the same late night, the same Bai Juntang, but this time, in the hotel room, Bai Juntang pinned her shoulder down and bit into Cheng Wan’s gland, marking her.
The unavoidable pain almost made Cheng Wan lose control.
The unfamiliar woman and the unfamiliar mark made Cheng Wan feel as though her entire world had turned dark.
She couldn’t escape this mark. No matter how much she struggled, Bai Juntang would pin her down on the bed.
Did she really have to endure this pain again?
The throbbing pain in her glands made Cheng Wan almost unable to hold on any longer. She struggled to push Bai Juntang away, hugged her shoulders, and crouched down, burying her face in her knees as her body trembled uncontrollably.
She was scared.
When Bai Juntang realized this, she felt somewhat embarrassed.
It was her fault for not controlling herself—she had kissed Cheng Wan a second time.
“…I’m sorry.” Bai Juntang crouched down in front of Cheng Wan. Seeing her shiver slightly, she reached out and pulled her into an embrace, using her own pheromones to soothe her.
Cheng Wan struggled a little at first, but then she stopped moving, breathing heavily and not daring to make a sound.
“I might not have controlled myself today,” Bai Juntang gently comforted Cheng Wan. “I didn’t mean to scare you.”
Cheng Wan slowly lifted her head to look at her, her dark eyes filled with wariness.
Bai Juntang cupped her face and whispered, “I’ll be more careful next time, I promise.”
Cheng Wan paused for a moment before saying, “You don’t need to apologize.”
She was used to apologizing before, but now, seeing Bai Juntang apologize to her, it felt strange.
Besides, she herself had lost control just a moment ago.
Bai Juntang didn’t say anything more. She bent down and lifted Cheng Wan from the ground. Cheng Wan was so light and small that Bai Juntang barely needed any effort.
She gently placed Cheng Wan on the bed and said, “Get some rest. You’ll feel better once you wake up.”
Cheng Wan looked at Bai Juntang, buried her face in the blanket, and nodded.
The next morning, when Cheng Wan woke up, she could still smell the scent of fir wood in the room. After changing into her clothes, she came out of the room and saw Aunt Pei preparing breakfast.
It was then that Cheng Wan remembered Aunt Pei was still staying with them. Had she heard the two kisses between her and Bai Juntang at the door yesterday?
Although Cheng Wan really liked Aunt Pei, the thought of it made her blush uncontrollably.
How awkward would it be if someone had seen something so intimate?
Aunt Pei turned around and saw Cheng Wan’s face flushed bright red. With a smile, she asked, “Why is your face so red this morning? Did you not sleep well last night?”
Cheng Wan shook her head. Just as she was about to speak, she heard a voice from behind her.
Bai Juntang walked down the stairs. Looking at Cheng Wan’s back, she said, “Good morning.”
