How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 26
Bai Juntang didn’t actually intend to kiss her; she was simply amused by the sight of Cheng Wan looking so nervous and couldn’t resist teasing her a little.
But Cheng Wan lifted her head, blushing yet speaking very seriously as she looked at her and asked, “Then… should we kiss now?”
Kiss now?
Bai Juntang felt her heartbeat suddenly quicken. She looked at Cheng Wan, wanting to say that she was just teasing, but the words wouldn’t come out. She realized that she, too, actually wanted to kiss Cheng Wan.
The kiss before going abroad in the car was still fresh in Bai Juntang’s mind; that was the first time the two of them had shared such an intimate moment while fully conscious.
Unlike their first time in the hotel, Bai Juntang was very clear-headed in the car. She knew exactly who she was holding in her arms, and she knew who she was kissing.
In the quiet hospital room, the only sound was their shallow breathing.
Bai Juntang’s face turned rare and flushed. She fixed her gaze on Cheng Wan as she sat by her bed.
Cheng Wan nervously gripped the blanket, not daring to look at Bai Juntang. Regardless of whether they had kissed before, she was still not quite used to it.
Her lips, pink and tender under the soft light, stirred something in Bai Juntang. She felt a rush of emotions and reached out to cover Cheng Wan’s wrist. Lowering her head slightly, she murmured, “Alright, it’s probably time now.”
A gentle kiss descended, and Cheng Wan instinctively closed her eyes.
Bai Juntang’s soft tongue parted Cheng Wan’s lips, and the warm breath carrying the scent of fir wood pheromones surged up, almost making Cheng Wan forget to breathe.
Her waist was embraced, and Cheng Wan’s whole body tensed up, though the warmth of the kiss grew increasingly intense.
The breaths they exchanged filled the space between them, and both could hear the pounding of each other’s hearts.
“Mm…”
Cheng Wan subconsciously grasped Bai Juntang’s shoulder. She found it hard to catch her breath, with the taste of Bai Juntang filling her nose and mouth.
It was overwhelming her senses.
The glands on the back of her neck reacted, feeling as if they were burning, as though they were on fire.
Bai Juntang sensed the change in Cheng Wan and held her tightly, deepening the kiss.
Perhaps it was the alpha’s instinct at work, but Bai Juntang felt an overwhelming urge to press Cheng Wan down on the bed, bite into her glands, and inject her own pheromones, marking her as the woman carrying her child and making her truly belong to her again.
The pheromone scent in the room grew heavier and almost seemed like it would burst through the door.
Just then, a knock came at the door.
Li Chen stood outside, sensing the thick pheromone scent that lingered even through the closed door. He called out, “President Bai, it’s Li Chen. I’ve brought some documents for you. Let me know when you’re free to look at them. It’s urgent, but if it weren’t, I wouldn’t disturb you.”
This was the truth. Li Chen wouldn’t have dared to interrupt his boss’s private moment if he didn’t urgently need to deliver the documents.
And most importantly, they were in a hospital. With so many people around, the scent would be noticeable, and it was simply not appropriate.
Bai Juntang was still very clear-headed. She held the now breathless Cheng Wan in her arms and realized that, given the situation, it wasn’t exactly the right environment for intimate gestures.
Moreover, Cheng Wan was still sick.
“I understand,” Bai Juntang gently reassured Cheng Wan, who was nestled in her arms, and called out to Li Chen, “Please wait outside.”
Cheng Wan’s face was now completely red. She clutched Bai Juntang’s coat tightly, her entire body drained of energy, resting in her embrace, too shy to lift her head.
Her neck still burned with pain, and the glands that hadn’t been soothed were restless, desperately wanting Bai Juntang to bite them.
How did she end up like this?
Cheng Wan closed her eyes and breathed heavily. She had never been this close to anyone before. Could it really be that just kissing someone could cause such a strong reaction?
It shouldn’t be this way. This isn’t how they show it in TV dramas…
Bai Juntang had no idea what Cheng Wan was thinking. She was trying to control the urge to mark Cheng Wan, her own body reacting to the peach-scented pheromones she was unknowingly emitting, and she felt an uncomfortable itch in her chest.
It was like a cat’s claws were scratching at her.
“I need to get back to work,” Bai Juntang said as she held Cheng Wan’s waist, resting her chin on her shoulder. She reluctantly added, “You should rest. I’ll be back soon.”
Cheng Wan weakly nodded, slowly letting go of Bai Juntang.
As soon as Bai Juntang left, Cheng Wan felt a strange emptiness. The familiar scent of fir was gone too.
She stared at the door, her body filled with Bai Juntang’s pheromones, yet she still longed to be with her, instinctively wanting to hold her.
To do something even more intimate.
What was happening to her?
Cheng Wan felt anxious and buried herself under the blanket. She had never been this clingy before. Why was everything different when it came to Bai Juntang?
Li Chen came to find Bai Juntang with some important documents. They went back to the company to take care of things, and didn’t return to the hospital until midnight.
After days of being busy, Bai Juntang had barely slept. Now, it was actually a good thing—she didn’t need to adjust to the time difference.
When Bai Juntang returned to the room, Cheng Wan was already asleep. But she seemed uneasy, clutching the edge of the blanket, her brow furrowed slightly as if she was dreaming about something.
Bai Juntang took off her coat and hung it on the coat rack. She sat beside Cheng Wan’s bed, watching her sleep. Unable to resist, she gently reached out and stroked her soft cheek.
Eventually, as Cheng Wan slept deeply, Bai Juntang leaned over and pressed a soft kiss to her temple.
The next morning, Cheng Wan woke up around 7 a.m.
Bai Juntang had been napping on the sofa. Since she hadn’t slept well, she wasn’t deeply asleep, so she woke up as soon as Cheng Wan did.
When Cheng Wan saw Bai Juntang sleeping on the sofa, she was a bit surprised.
“Good morning,” Bai Juntang said, rubbing her head as she sat up. “This sofa is a bit small. I woke up with a sore back.”
Cheng Wan looked at her a little awkwardly. “Actually, you don’t have to stay with me.”
Bai Juntang replied lazily, “Why be so polite? Once you wake up, just freshen up a bit. I’ll call the doctor to check on you.”
After the doctor finished examining Cheng Wan, Bai Juntang sat on the sofa, watching as Cheng Wan obediently followed the doctor’s instructions, lifting her arms and extending her hands. She was so well-behaved, even a little cute.
Once the doctor finished, she told Cheng Wan, “You’re improving. Since you’re still in the early stages of your pregnancy, the medicine options are limited, so it might take a little longer for this one to take effect. I recommend resting at home for now, and come back for a checkup in a week.”
Bai Juntang felt reassured after hearing that. She took care of Cheng Wan’s discharge paperwork and picked up a lot of medications. The nurse gave her detailed instructions on which ones Cheng Wan could take and which ones to be cautious about, especially since many medications aren’t safe during the first trimester. She also reminded Bai Juntang to be careful when buying any more medicines.
After handling all the details in the morning, Bai Juntang finally drove Cheng Wan home.
When they arrived at Bai Juntang’s house, Cheng Wan paused, looking at Bai Juntang, who had just gotten out of the driver’s seat.
“Why don’t you just take me home?” Cheng Wan asked weakly. “I want to rest at home.”
“I’ve already talked to your parents,” Bai Juntang said, grabbing her own luggage. “They’re fine with you staying with me. You just got out of the hospital, and you need someone to look after you. Plus, the nurse gave me all the details about your medication. It’s just more convenient for you to stay here.”
Cheng Wan frowned slightly. “But…”
Bai Juntang walked over, lowering her head to look at her. “I’m not trying to force you to stay with me, but for now, while you’re recovering, it will be easier for Aunt Pei and me to take care of you. After you feel better, we can discuss whether you want to go back home or stay. Does that sound okay?”
Cheng Wan hesitated, feeling a little conflicted. Bai Juntang had already said everything so clearly, and she didn’t want to reject her. Plus, she knew that if she returned to her foster parents’ house right now, they likely wouldn’t treat her well.
Seeing that Cheng Wan nodded, Bai Juntang gently took her hand and smiled. “Let’s go. We’re home.”
Home.
Maybe it was the word “home” that made Cheng Wan stop resisting. She quietly allowed Bai Juntang to hold her hand as they stepped into a place she had only visited twice before.
The warmth of Bai Juntang’s hand in hers, the sound of the door opening, and the fresh smell of disinfectant in the house all made Cheng Wan feel a little out of place.
But that one word, “home,” made her heart race uncontrollably.
It had been so long since anyone had used the word “home” in reference to her. Although her foster parents had given her a room to rest in, she never felt like that place was really her “home.”
Cheng Wan wasn’t sure—was this unfamiliar woman and this unfamiliar place going to become her “home” from now on?
Once inside, Bai Juntang set down her luggage, bent down, and helped Cheng Wan change into slippers.
This time, they weren’t the old cotton slippers from before. Instead, Bai Juntang handed her a pair of green plastic dinosaur slippers. The dinosaurs were grinning and spewing fire, looking a little childish.
Bai Juntang didn’t think it was odd at all. She smiled and said, “You go sit in the living room for a bit. I’ll have Aunt Pei set up a room for you. Once it’s ready, let me know if you need anything.”
Cheng Wan nodded and said, “Thank you.”
Aunt Pei heard the door open and immediately came over. She smiled warmly at the two of them. “You’re back! Are you hungry? I wasn’t sure what you liked to eat, Wanwan, so I made a few of my best dishes. If you don’t like anything, just tell me, and I’ll make more of what you like next time.”
“Thank you, Aunt Pei. I’m not picky,” Cheng Wan replied.
“That’s great! If you’re not picky, then the baby will be healthy and strong!” Aunt Pei said with a happy smile.
Cheng Wan smiled awkwardly, feeling a little shy. She instinctively placed a hand on her small belly.
Bai Juntang turned to Aunt Pei and asked, “Aunt Pei, is Cheng Wan’s room all set up?”
“It’s all ready! I’ve used everything you bought,” Aunt Pei replied, smiling. “Juntang, your taste is really good. The things you picked out look even better the more I see them.”
Cheng Wan looked at Bai Juntang in surprise. “You picked them out?”
Bai Juntang cleared her throat softly and said, “When I was out shopping, I thought these things looked nice, so I just bought them. It wasn’t specifically for you, so don’t overthink it.”
“Oh,” Cheng Wan replied, blinking and not saying anything more.
Bai Juntang and Aunt Pei went off to take care of other things. Cheng Wan wasn’t sure what to do, so she sat quietly on the sofa in the living room, watching the program on the large LCD screen.
It seemed to be an old TV drama, one Cheng Wan remembered watching back when she was in school. She wasn’t sure where Aunt Pei had found it.
As Cheng Wan was watching TV, she suddenly felt something tugging at her slipper. She looked down and saw a small white hand reaching out from between the sofa cushions, quietly grabbing at the little dinosaur on her slipper.
