How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 110
The closest hospital to Cheng Wan required a ride of four or five subway stops.
When she had chosen this apartment, what attracted her most was the convenient transportation. There was a commercial area just downstairs. Although it wasn’t as luxurious as the city center, it was still a decent place to live, and getting around was easy.
Lately, too many things had happened at home. Early that morning, Cheng Wan woke up feeling dizzy and nauseous. Her entire body ached badly, especially around her joints. The pain was intense and made her feel swollen and sore.
She had no choice but to take the subway to the hospital. After registering, she waited in line to see a doctor.
It was a general hospital, and there were many people. Cheng Wan waited for more than an hour before it was her turn.
Sitting across from the doctor, Cheng Wan explained all the physical symptoms she had been experiencing. Since hospitals were now connected through a nationwide system, the doctor also pulled up her past medical records.
“You gave birth not too long ago,” the doctor said while looking at her file. “It looks like you haven’t fully recovered yet. Have you been running around a lot lately? Feeling a lot of stress?”
Cheng Wan thought about everything that had happened recently and nodded quietly.
The doctor lowered his head and filled out a test form. He handed it to her and said, “Go and get these tests done first. Come back to me after that.”
Cheng Wan took the form and spent over two hours running back and forth in the hospital. By the time she found the doctor again, it was already close to lunchtime.
He looked a little impatient, but still reviewed her test results and said, “There’s nothing serious. It’s just stress. As an Omega, your body is naturally more fragile. Go home and get plenty of rest. There’s no need for medication. Focus on proper nutrition instead.”
As he spoke, he casually prescribed some nutritional supplements and sent her off.
Cheng Wan looked at the thick stack of test reports in her hands. Altogether, she had spent three to four thousand yuan, only to receive less than a hundred yuan worth of supplements.
Standing under the sunlight with the supplements in hand, she felt dizzy again. Her vision came and went, sometimes clear, sometimes blurry. Cheng Wan thought maybe she really was just exhausted. That would explain why her body felt so off.
As she passed the pharmacy near the hospital entrance, she went inside and bought some inhibitors and scent-blocking patches. Now that she lived alone, these things were necessary. If she entered a sensitive period again, it would be extremely difficult to manage on her own.
Honestly, it already was difficult enough.
The subway station outside the hospital was crowded as usual. After a long search, Cheng Wan finally found an empty seat. Just as she sat down, her phone rang from inside her bag.
It was a call from Chang Le.
“Hey, Wanwan,” Chang Le said cheerfully. “What are you doing right now?”
“I’m on the subway,” Cheng Wan replied.
“Oh? You went out?”
“Yeah, had to take care of a few things.”
“The temperature’s dropping again in the next couple of days. Make sure to stay warm. You should wear that sweater we bought when we went shopping last time.”
“I’m already wearing it. It’s really warm.”
Cheng Wan found it unusual. Chang Le usually preferred to chat on WeChat so she could send stickers and memes. If she was calling, there must be something important.
“Did you call me for something?” Cheng Wan asked curiously.
“Hehe,” Chang Le laughed a little shyly, lowering her voice and speaking into her phone from a quiet corner. “I had dinner with our senior yesterday. She told me Miss Bai came to see you again?”
Cheng Wan paused for a moment, then nodded and replied, “Yes. She came the day before yesterday. Something happened, and then she left.”
“That sounds a little vague. I heard from my senior that Miss Bai actually stood up for you and gave that abusive neighbor a good lesson,” Chang Le said with emotion. “Honestly, I think Miss Bai still wants to get back together with you. Have you really made up your mind about her?”
Cheng Wan lowered her head and stayed quiet.
Sensing the change in her mood, Chang Le quickly added, “Wanwan, I’m not trying to take Miss Bai’s side. I’m always on your side. I just really think she still likes you a lot. Maybe there’s a misunderstanding between you two?”
“There’s no misunderstanding,” Cheng Wan said softly. “We’re just not right for each other.”
Chang Le sighed and said, “Alright. Don’t be mad at me, okay? I couldn’t sleep last night after hearing everything from my senior. I held it in all morning before finally calling to gossip with you.”
Cheng Wan smiled and said, “I’m not mad. And I should be thanking you for helping me find such a good apartment.”
“I’m just glad you like it. That’s all I can do to help,” Chang Le replied. “How about I come see you this weekend? The weather is really nice right now. Let’s go out and have some fun.”
Cheng Wan realized she had been cooped up for too long and definitely needed to get out for a bit. She agreed to the plan.
After leaving the subway station, she remembered that she hadn’t eaten lunch yet. Her body wasn’t in great shape, and running around all morning had left her feeling drained. She decided to order some takeout and eat something simple, planning to cook for herself in the evening.
Even though she wasn’t good at cooking, she could still manage a basic stir-fry or two.
As she walked back toward her apartment, she passed the parking lot near the entrance. This lot was used by both apartment residents and people working in the nearby commercial area, so Cheng Wan usually didn’t pay much attention to the cars parked there.
But today, for some reason, a car caught her eye. Out of the corner of her vision, she thought she saw a familiar vehicle. She turned her head and saw a Maybach. Maybe it was just the same model?
However, as she got closer and saw the license plate, she was certain. It was Bai Juntang’s car.
Why is she here again?
Cheng Wan let out a quiet sigh, walked into the elevator, and pressed the button for her floor. She started thinking about what excuse she could use this time to get Bai Juntang to leave.
These days, Bai Juntang’s presence was putting a lot of pressure on her. Back when she had kept her distance and didn’t interfere, Cheng Wan had at least felt like she could breathe. But now that they were seeing each other almost every day, Cheng Wan felt her heart becoming more and more vulnerable.
Cheng Wan had once firmly believed that separating from Bai Juntang was the right decision. But now, she found herself beginning to waver.
No matter how hard she tried to deny it, Cheng Wan had to admit she still had feelings for Bai Juntang.
When the elevator doors opened, Cheng Wan immediately saw a tall, slender figure standing at her apartment door. Bai Juntang was facing away from her. A waterproof bag rested near her feet. She was wearing a khaki leather coat, and her long black hair looked sleek and glossy.
At the sound of the elevator, Bai Juntang turned around and saw Cheng Wan. She smiled and gently lifted Sui Sui’s little hand to wave.
“Sui Sui, aren’t you going to say hi to Mommy?”
Cheng Wan’s eyes widened instantly. It felt like the entire world around her had lost its color. Her eyes and heart were completely filled with the tiny figure resting in Bai Juntang’s arms.
Sui Sui was far too young to speak. She was only two months old and curled up in Bai Juntang’s arms like a tiny, boneless kitten. Bai Juntang gently lifted one of her arms and gave it a small wave.
“Pfft…”
Sui Sui blew a small bubble and looked displeased.
Cheng Wan quickly walked over, her expression a mix of joy and worry. Seeing Sui Sui in Bai Juntang’s arms made her both happy and anxious.
“She’s so little. How could you take her outside like this? Where’s the maternity nanny? What about Aunt Pei? Why didn’t anyone come with you?”
“I didn’t ask them to come,” Bai Juntang replied calmly. “The weather’s nice today. I brought Sui Sui to see you.”
Cheng Wan stared at Sui Sui without blinking. She was afraid that if she looked away for even a second, Sui Sui might disappear.
Noticing her gaze, Bai Juntang tilted her head and asked softly, “Do you want to hold her?”
Cheng Wan looked up at her with wide eyes and asked, almost in a whisper, “Can I?”
“You’re her mother. Of course you can.” Bai Juntang gently handed Sui Sui over.
Cheng Wan took her carefully, as if holding the most precious thing in the world. Seeing her so cautious and tender, Bai Juntang felt a twist in her heart.
Cheng Wan’s eyes turned red. Holding Sui Sui close, she noticed the baby felt heavier than before.
“She’s gotten heavier,” Cheng Wan said with wonder. She looked up at Bai Juntang. “Has she gained weight?”
“Yes, she has,” Bai Juntang replied. “The maternity nanny has been doing a great job. The doctor even said she doesn’t look like a premature baby anymore.”
“That’s really good to hear…”
Even though Cheng Wan knew Bai Juntang would take excellent care of Sui Sui, and that the baby was probably better off with her, it was still incredibly hard to let go once she was holding her again.
Sui Sui seemed to recognize her mother’s scent. She reached out with her tiny hand and grabbed at Cheng Wan’s hair.
“Hey,” Bai Juntang quickly stopped her and gently scolded, “You can’t pull Mommy’s hair.”
But Cheng Wan didn’t mind at all. She looked at Sui Sui, completely captivated. She lowered her head and kissed her soft cheek, making the baby giggle happily.
It had been a long time since Bai Juntang had seen such a warm, tender moment. She stepped forward and wrapped her arms around both Cheng Wan and Sui Sui.
Cheng Wan looked up at her, and her eyes carried a complex emotion that was hard to put into words.
“We should go inside,” Bai Juntang said gently. “Standing out here doesn’t look good.” She leaned in and kissed Cheng Wan’s cheek, just as Cheng Wan had kissed Sui Sui, then added, “Let me help you with your things.”
Cheng Wan blushed from the kiss and softly replied, “Okay.” She watched as Bai Juntang picked up her bag and the waterproof pack. Together, they entered the apartment.
After closing the door, changing their shoes, and putting the bags down, Cheng Wan still hadn’t let go of Sui Sui. She carried her all the way to the living room and laid her down in a sunny spot by the window.
Sui Sui stared around the unfamiliar room with wide eyes, kicking her little legs in excitement.
Cheng Wan had completely forgotten that Bai Juntang was still there. She took off her coat, found a soft blanket to cover Sui Sui, then turned and asked, “Has she had her milk yet? Is it almost nap time?”
Bai Juntang placed Cheng Wan’s things on the shelf near the door, then brought over the waterproof bag. She sat down on a small stool across from the sofa.
“I’ve got some business nearby this afternoon,” she said. “I’ll come pick Sui Sui up around six. You, as her mom, can take care of her for the afternoon. How does that sound?”
Cheng Wan’s eyes lit up. She nodded earnestly. “Yes, let her nap here with me.”
Ever since she left the one-month celebration, Cheng Wan had felt deeply guilty. Over the past month, she had often thought about Sui Sui. But every time she remembered leaving her behind at such a young age, her heart ached so much she could barely breathe.
Now that Sui Sui was back with her, even if just for one afternoon, Cheng Wan felt genuinely happy.
She turned to look at Sui Sui’s round, grape-like eyes and felt a storm of emotions in her heart.
Bai Juntang showed her how to use the items in the bag and explained Sui Sui’s nap routine. Watching how seriously Cheng Wan listened, she felt a quiet sense of victory.
Cheng Wan might be willing to send her away, but she couldn’t bear to send Sui Sui away. Bai Juntang believed that one day, Cheng Wan would come back to her too.
