How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 109
Lunch that afternoon was especially tense. Bai Juntang looked visibly upset, Cheng Wan was naturally quiet, and even though Wu Qingwen seemed like she had something to say, the heavy atmosphere between the other two left her at a loss for words.
In the end, all three sat eating in silence. The only sound came from the television, which played a show that added a bit of liveliness to the otherwise awkward meal.
Just before they left, Wu Qingwen still turned to Cheng Wan and said, “Even though Miss Bai has assured me multiple times that the abusive man won’t harm you again, I still don’t feel at ease. Please stay alert for the next few days. If he bothers you again, remember to call me.”
Bai Juntang frowned and said impatiently, “Why would she call you?”
Wu Qingwen replied calmly, “Cheng Wan is my client. If anything happens to her, I have the right to know.”
Although Bai Juntang was clearly annoyed, she couldn’t start an argument in front of Cheng Wan. So instead, she kept a cold expression and told Cheng Wan, “You didn’t sleep well last night. Go get some rest this afternoon.”
Cheng Wan nodded, then quietly closed the door, leaving the two of them outside.
Bai Juntang folded her arms and turned to look at Wu Qingwen, clearly unhappy. “Why are you just standing there? Are you waiting for me to get in the elevator so you can sneak back in?”
Wu Qingwen found her childish behavior amusing and crossed her arms too. “Miss Bai, are you three years old? You’re being incredibly immature.”
She turned around and walked toward the elevator without looking back. Worried that Wu might actually come back, Bai Juntang followed and rode the same elevator. She watched Wu drive away before finally unlocking her own car and getting in.
Sitting in the car, Bai Juntang started thinking. Now that she knew Cheng Wan’s address and door code, it would be hard for Cheng Wan to escape again.
But staying the night hadn’t brought them any closer. Frustrated, Bai Juntang slapped the steering wheel, trying to come up with a plan. She realized she couldn’t handle this alone. She needed to find Cheng Wan’s weakness.
Instead of going back to the office or home, she took a long detour and drove to the club.
That afternoon, there was a domestic professional racing event at the club. But local races weren’t very exciting. The same few clubs just kept competing with one another. It was honestly boring.
By the time Bai Juntang arrived, the race had already started. Because of the ongoing Omega restriction, Mu Ruchu still couldn’t compete. Without her, the Qiangu Club had no strong racers left and was being completely outmatched by the other teams.
After watching from the stands for a while, Bai Juntang could tell that her team wouldn’t do better than fifth place. They wouldn’t even make it to the podium.
She let out a long sigh. If she wanted this Omega restriction lifted, she would need to put in more effort. She couldn’t afford to wait a whole year.
When she entered the lounge, she saw Mu Ruchu wearing her red-and-white racing suit, standing with a few teammates and watching the race. She was holding her favorite drink and laughing casually. The carefree way she looked made Bai Juntang want to scold her.
“Mu, do you feel more comfortable on the track or just watching from the lounge?” Bai Juntang asked with a serious face.
Mu Ruchu turned around and smiled, her eyes curving with amusement. “Of course it’s more comfortable watching from here.”
Bai Juntang rolled her eyes. “Come to the office with me.”
Amused by Bai Juntang’s fake seriousness, Mu Ruchu followed her and even closed the door thoughtfully. “What’s wrong? Who upset you this time? Are you here to take it out on me?”
“Who else could it be?” Bai Juntang said with frustration. “Cheng Wan.”
Mu Ruchu sat down and listened to Bai Juntang vent. She had a strange feeling of déjà vu. It was just like six months ago when Bai sat in front of her rambling about the same person—Cheng Wan.
“Tell me, why is that woman acting so close with Cheng Wan?” Bai Juntang complained. “I’m over here angry enough to get a headache, and Cheng Wan is out there meeting new people.”
Mu Ruchu rested her chin on her hand, smiling as she listened.
“What are you smiling at? I’m being serious here,” Bai Juntang said, giving her a light kick. “Tell me I’m not right.”
Mu Ruchu tapped her own cheek and blinked playfully. “President Bai, I can smell the jealousy from here. Did your pheromones change scents or something?”
Angry, Bai Juntang tried to kick her again, but Mu Ruchu dodged.
“Alright, alright,” Mu Ruchu said, trying to comfort her. “You’re trying to win Cheng Wan back, not fight with her. Don’t forget why you’re doing this.”
Bai Juntang thought for a moment and admitted she was right.
“But I really can’t stand that woman.”
“You’ve only met her twice and already decided she’s your rival? What if she’s not even interested in Cheng Wan?”
“My Cheng Wan is smart, kind, and beautiful. How could she not be interested?”
Mu Ruchu chuckled. “Then let me ask you—what does that woman have that you don’t?”
Bai Juntang sat back in her chair with her arms crossed, speaking with pride. “She’s no match for me in any way.”
“Exactly,” Mu Ruchu said. “If Cheng Wan doesn’t even like you, why would she choose someone else?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Mu Ruchu laughed again.
Bai Juntang could tell she was being teased and didn’t bother getting angry. She knocked on the desk. “Sit down.”
“I have a question,” she said, pretending to be calm. “That little CEO Chi—has she still been bothering you lately?”
Mu Ruchu blinked and casually crossed her legs. “What do you mean by bothering?”
“Answer me.”
“It’s not too bad.”
“Is she bothering you or not? What does ‘not too bad’ mean?”
“It means she still shows up once in a while.”
Mu Ruchu thought for a moment. “I think it’s because I used to be her assistant. I spoiled her too much back then. Now she comes by from time to time, asking me to cook for her or run errands like a driver.”
Bai Juntang slammed the desk. “You’re a professional racer, the star of Qiangu Club! You’ve never even driven me around, but you’re her chauffeur?”
“I only do that outside of training hours,” Mu Ruchu explained. “And she’s actually quite pitiful. She’s all alone here with no one to rely on, and she doesn’t really know how to take care of herself. She always ends up in trouble. I feel bad for her.”
“If you want a daughter so badly, I can lend you our Suisui for a few days.”
“No thanks. I can’t handle a kid that young.”
“But you can handle someone in her twenties?”
Bai Juntang frowned. “This is a critical time for your training. I’m not saying you can’t date, but at least pick someone reliable.”
Mu Ruchu nodded. “You’re right.”
“There are so many Alphas, and of course, some of them have issues. Take that Wu woman around Cheng Wan. I don’t like the way she looks at her. She seems sneaky and calculating. I can tell she’s hiding something…”
As Bai Juntang went on and on about Cheng Wan again, Mu Ruchu just leaned her head on her hand and listened.
She finally realized that Bai Juntang didn’t come here to talk about racing or work at all. She just needed someone to vent to and she had chosen her as the emotional dumping ground.
Mu Ruchu let out a soft sigh in her heart. But Bai Juntang was her boss. No matter how close they were, she still had to give her face. It was just a shame she had to miss today’s race. She had only just started watching when she was called away.
After chatting with Mu Ruchu for the whole afternoon, Bai Juntang waited until the race ended and then went out for a casual meal with a few employees.
Her mood had improved a lot. She drove back home, and by the time she got there, it was already past ten at night. She thought everyone would be asleep, but the moment she opened the door, she saw Bai Weilan sitting in the living room, clearly waiting for her.
“You’re back,” Bai Weilan said, taking off her glasses and looking at her. “You stayed over at Cheng Wan’s last night?”
Bai Juntang gave a small “Mm” and walked over, visibly annoyed. “Mom, can you stop having people keep an eye on me and Cheng Wan?”
“I’m just worried you’ll mess things up. If Sui Sui ends up without a mother, how am I supposed to explain that to her?” Bai Weilan leaned back on the sofa, speaking in a lazy tone. “Besides, I’m only having people watch. I haven’t stepped in or interfered. You’re still doing whatever you want. Once I think the time is right, I’ll stop keeping tabs.”
Bai Juntang felt like a student who got caught dating secretly. She rubbed her temples. “When are you going abroad?”
“What? You’re in such a hurry to get rid of me?” Bai Weilan said with a smirk. “Not anytime soon. With the way things are between you and Cheng Wan right now, how could I leave? What would happen to Sui Sui?”
“She has a nanny.”
“She also has a mother. So what? Even with a mother, people keep running off and never coming home.”
Bai Juntang frowned slightly. “Are you talking about me or Cheng Wan?”
Bai Weilan realized she had spoken too harshly. Looking at her daughter, she said, “Alright, I admit I was wrong. I gave Cheng Wan one hundred million, which made her keep her distance from you. I also knew she was thinking about getting a divorce, and I didn’t tell you.”
“When I get a chance to see her, I’ll apologize,” Bai Weilan added. “But you haven’t looked at Sui Sui in days. She’s your daughter. Don’t you care about her at all?”
Bai Juntang felt a wave of guilt. She had indeed been so focused on Cheng Wan these past few days that she had nearly forgotten she had a daughter who was only a few months old.
“I’ll go check on Sui Sui,” she said, pointing upstairs.
“She’s already asleep. If you go now and wake her up, what then?” Bai Weilan replied. “See her tomorrow instead. If this keeps going, she won’t even recognize her own parents.”
Bai Juntang nodded, then got up to go to bed. Sleeping on the couch last night had been awful, and she needed a proper rest.
“Wait,” Bai Weilan called after her. “There’s a business reception next month. I want you to come with me. The invitation is in the study. Take a look when you get the chance.”
Bai Juntang replied with a quiet “okay” and headed to her room. She had been out every day lately, leaving the company’s responsibilities to Bai Weilan. She figured it was time she showed up at a few events again. Otherwise, people might start thinking someone else was running Qiangu now.
After a shower and a good night’s sleep, the next morning Bai Juntang woke to the sound of baby babble. When she got to the living room, she saw the nanny dressing Sui Sui.
The little girl was wearing a tiny orange-yellow knitted dress. She looked absolutely adorable.
Sui Sui seemed to love the dress too, laughing happily and letting out soft giggles.
“What’s going on here?” Bai Juntang walked over and asked. “Why is she all dressed up?”
“We’re going outside for some sun,” the nanny said with a warm smile. “The weather’s so nice today. It would be a shame not to enjoy it.”
Bai Juntang paused, then looked closely at Sui Sui. For a moment, it finally hit her. She still had this little teammate with her.
“Sister Chen,” she asked while looking at her daughter, “Is it okay for her to go outside now?”
“Of course,” the nanny replied while holding Sui Sui. “Are you planning to take her somewhere? Just try to avoid windy or crowded places.”
“I’m not taking her anywhere chaotic,” Bai Juntang said with a gentle smile. She leaned in to softly touch Sui Sui’s chubby little cheek, her eyes curving with affection. “I’m taking Sui Sui to see her mom.”
