How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 106
As soon as Bai Juntang stepped out of the apartment, the man who had been shouting moments ago froze for a second. He hadn’t expected someone new to appear, especially not an alpha.
In this world, alphas were already rare. Out of a hundred people, finding four or five was considered a lot. Whether in strength or intelligence, alphas always stood out. They had significant advantages in society.
The man had been so arrogant because he was a rare alpha himself. In a world full of betas, he had no match. But now facing another alpha, he hesitated—though only briefly. Once he saw that the alpha in front of him was a woman, even that brief moment of caution disappeared.
A female alpha was still a woman, no different in his mind from the Omega lying on his floor.
Bai Juntang looked at the man standing in front of her. He had muscles all over his body, probably built at the gym. But she could tell at a glance that they were mostly for show. He didn’t actually have much strength.
“Are you the one who injured her head?” Bai Juntang pointed at the door behind her and asked, “Do you even know who you hit?”
“I don’t care who she is,” the man said with disdain. “If she’s your Omega, then you should keep her under control. Don’t let her run around stirring up trouble. I hit my own woman. That’s a private matter. If she dares encourage my wife to run away again, I’ll hit her too.”
The man’s voice was so loud that none of the neighbors on the floor dared open their doors. But Bai Juntang could feel several pairs of eyes watching from behind peepholes. Clearly, people were curious about what was going on.
Bai Juntang’s face darkened. She was used to dealing with people in high-end places and rarely encountered someone who spoke this crudely. Her anger flared instantly.
“You want to hit her?” she stepped forward, her face cold. “Then let’s see if you’re capable of it.”
The man had a bad temper too. He didn’t care who Bai Juntang was. He reached out, aiming to slap her across the face. But she easily dodged and then kicked him hard in the stomach.
Caught off guard by the blow, the man stumbled back several steps until he slammed into the wall behind him.
“You dare kick me?” he roared, clutching his stomach. Her kick had left him nauseated, his face red with rage as he charged forward.
But Bai Juntang wasn’t the kind to back down. She immediately fought back.
Just as Cheng Wan came out after calling the police, she saw Bai Juntang pinning the man to the floor. One of Bai Juntang’s hands held both of his wrists, while the other repeatedly slapped his face. The sound echoed loudly in the hallway.
Several neighbors had quietly opened their doors to watch. Their eyes widened in shock.
The man’s cheeks were swollen from the slaps. He tried to get up, but Bai Juntang held him down firmly. Then she pressed her hand against the artery on the side of his neck. After struggling for a moment, the man went limp and collapsed.
Cheng Wan was terrified. She thought the man had stopped breathing and rushed forward, only for Bai Juntang to wrap an arm around her waist and pull her back.
“That man—”
“He’s not dead.”
Bai Juntang glanced at him. His muscles were mostly decorative, probably bulked up from protein supplements. In a real fight, he was weak. Bai Juntang, who had formal training in self-defense, had taken him down within seconds.
Seeing the man’s chest still rising and falling, Cheng Wan turned her attention to Bai Juntang and checked her arms and head. “Are you hurt?”
“I’m fine,” Bai Juntang replied, blinking. Then she clung to Cheng Wan’s waist with a hint of grievance and said, “But he did hit me a couple of times. It really hurt. Luckily, I’ve had self-defense training, or I would’ve been in real trouble.”
As she spoke, she showed Cheng Wan the bruises on her arm where the man had grabbed her. Cheng Wan’s eyes turned red with emotion.
By now, more onlookers had opened their doors. The Omega from next door ran out, crying as she threw herself over the man lying on the floor. The hallway descended into chaos.
The police arrived quickly. The building manager and some neighbors helped wake the groggy man. They were planning to call an ambulance, but the man, still dazed, decided to go to the police station instead.
At the station, the man kept talking while the Omega cried. Bai Juntang sat nearby, calm as if nothing had happened, holding Cheng Wan’s hand to comfort her.
“Again, huh? Chen Hao,” said one of the officers, who clearly recognized him. He looked at the bruised woman and said, “Another domestic violence report?”
Chen Hao’s face turned sour. At home, he had been fierce and aggressive. But at the station, he was all smiles and fake humility.
“Officer, it was her fault this time,” he said, pointing at Bai Juntang. “This woman attacked me. I was only having a small argument with my Omega. Look at my face—how am I supposed to show myself in public now?”
Bai Juntang shot him a cold look that made him flinch.
The officer wasn’t unreasonable. He clearly knew Chen Hao was a regular. He said, “You’re always hitting your wife. It’s no wonder someone finally stood up to you.”
Chen Hao nodded repeatedly and apologized. “Yes, yes, I know I was wrong. I had a few drinks. You know I usually don’t hit her.”
The officer sighed. “If you behaved this politely at home, you wouldn’t be coming here so often.”
Chen Hao kept nodding, even looked like he was about to cry. His pitiful act was the exact opposite of the arrogant bully from earlier. The contrast made people frown.
“This time is more serious,” the officer finally said. “You’re staying here tonight.”
Chen Hao didn’t seem surprised by the punishment. He simply nodded and followed another officer out.
Once his case was handled, the officer walked over and looked Bai Juntang up and down. He smiled and asked, “Miss, are you hurt?”
Bai Juntang didn’t answer. Instead, she nodded toward the door and asked, “That’s it?”
The officer shrugged and said with a helpless smile, “I understand if you think we haven’t done enough. But there’s not much we can do in cases like this. At most, we can educate and warn them. You saw it yourself. He acts all humble at the station, then goes home and hits his wife again. We’ve followed up before and tried to talk to him, but it doesn’t do much.”
“What if one day he beats that Omega to death? Then who takes responsibility?”
The officer hesitated. “Well…”
He had no answer. He looked at Bai Juntang and said, “We’ll continue doing our best to educate people. But beyond that, our ability to intervene is very limited.”
Bai Juntang thought it was useless, but she also knew they were following procedure. Cases like this were, unfortunately, all too common in society, and truly difficult to resolve.
The Omega woman sitting quietly in the corner looked frail and small, as if she had completely melted into the shadows around her.
Her eyes were sunken and dull. It was easy to imagine that, if she had been a little healthier, she would have been a very beautiful woman. But now, ruined by both the man and by life, it was heartbreaking to see her like this.
A kind police officer brought her a glass of water and handed her a sandwich so she could have something to eat.
“There’s nothing else to deal with right now. It’s getting late. You can go home for now,” the officer said to Bai Juntang and Cheng Wan while tidying up. Then he turned to the woman in the corner and asked, “What about you? Are you waiting here for your man, or going home?”
The woman slowly lifted her head and softly replied, “I’ll wait here for him…”
The officer shook his head with a sigh and walked away.
Now the room was quiet, with only Bai Juntang, Cheng Wan, and the woman left.
Bai Juntang wasn’t seriously injured. She had only been grabbed a couple of times, and the pain had mostly faded. She stood up, still holding Cheng Wan’s hand, and walked over to the woman.
The woman raised her head in a daze. Her eyes were full of confusion and helplessness as she looked at them.
“Do you need help?” Bai Juntang asked gently. “If you want to leave that man, I can help you. I can also contact your family to come pick you up.”
The woman shook her head and replied in a low voice, “No need. My family… they won’t help me either. I’ve already chosen to be with him. No matter how much he hits or yells at me, I can’t leave him.”
“No one is truly unable to leave. If you want to, there are people who can help you.”
“It’s really okay. I’m an Omega. What can I do? I don’t have a job, I don’t know how to do anything. I wouldn’t survive on my own. I can only rely on him.”
She wrapped her arms around herself, curling into a ball, and whispered, “If he hits me or yells at me, it’s because I did something wrong. I didn’t meet his expectations. He may not be kind to me now, but I believe that once I get pregnant, he’ll start treating me well.”
Bai Juntang frowned deeply. “But what if he kills you before that happens?”
The woman shook her head and murmured, as if speaking both to Bai Juntang and to herself, “He won’t. When he’s not drinking, he’s actually good to me. Every time he hits me, he apologizes afterward. He just has a bit of a temper. He won’t really hurt me.”
Bai Juntang was at a loss for words. Even with all her eloquence, she couldn’t reach someone lost in such deep denial. The woman clearly wasn’t ready to listen. She was trapped in her own world.
With a heavy sigh, Bai Juntang gave up trying to convince her. She turned to Cheng Wan and said, “Let’s go home.”
Cheng Wan glanced back at the woman but said nothing. She followed Bai Juntang out of the police station.
It was nearly midnight. Outside, the streets were dark and quiet, lit only by street lamps. A few cars passed by now and then.
They had arrived earlier in a police car, but now there was no one to take them home. Since the apartment wasn’t far—just a few kilometers—they decided to walk.
The autumn night air was biting cold. It hadn’t felt that bad while inside the station or in the car, but now, after a few steps on the sidewalk, the chill seeped into their bones.
The cold wind pierced straight through them. Cheng Wan felt it everywhere, along with a familiar, aching pain that grew stronger by the second. It was even worse than she remembered.
They had been walking side by side, but Bai Juntang noticed Cheng Wan slowing down and saw her face growing pale. She quickly moved closer.
“What’s wrong?” Bai Juntang cupped Cheng Wan’s face in her hands, touched her forehead, and asked with concern, “Are you feeling unwell?”
Looking at Bai Juntang’s worried expression, Cheng Wan was suddenly overwhelmed by the pain and felt like crying.
