How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 101
Cheng Wan had originally planned to wait until the weather warmed up a bit before checking out real estate agencies herself. But Chang Le was unusually enthusiastic. Within just a couple of days, she informed Cheng Wan that she had already found a place.
That day, Chang Le brought her senior from the real estate agency to the hotel to pick her up, which caught Cheng Wan a little off guard.
Even after getting into the car, she hadn’t had a chance to ask what kind of place they were going to see.
The driver was the alpha woman from the agency. She was tall, with delicate makeup. Perhaps because it wasn’t a workday, her outfit was particularly casual.
“We’re going to see a few good apartments today,” the woman said as she drove, speaking to the two young women in the backseat. “Let’s start with the three I think are the most promising. The first one is right ahead. The security and management are excellent—perfect for a single Omega woman living on her own.”
Cheng Wan was a little surprised, then smiled and said, “I really appreciate this. I had planned to handle the search myself.”
The woman smiled with her eyes crinkling. “It’s no trouble at all. This is the service industry, after all. And since you’re a good friend of Chang Le, helping you is like helping her.”
Chang Le chimed in with a bright smile, “Exactly, Wanwan, don’t be so polite with my senior. She’s a regional manager now and has access to a lot of high-quality listings.”
The woman nodded and glanced at Cheng Wan in the rearview mirror. Her gaze lingered for a moment on Cheng Wan’s fair, gentle face before she added with a smile, “Come to think of it, Miss Cheng probably doesn’t know my name yet. I’m Wu Qingwen—‘Qing’ like clear water and ‘Wen’ like literature. It sounds a bit boyish, but it’s easy to remember.”
Cheng Wan smiled politely. “It’s a lovely name.”
Wu Qingwen returned the smile. As they neared the gated community, she continued, “This is a high-end residential area. From what Chang Le told me, your budget was two to three thousand yuan a month, right? This one’s a bit above that, but I figured for a single Omega, safety should be the priority. Let’s look at it first and compare. If nothing stands out today, I’m free tomorrow too—I can show you more options.”
They parked outside the complex and got out to look around.
It really was a premium neighborhood. The greenery was lush, with tall trees everywhere and birds chirping in the background. In the golden light of autumn, everything looked especially serene and beautiful.
Chang Le was just as curious and tugged Cheng Wan along, saying, “Wanwan, this place looks really nice. I just hope it’s not too expensive.”
Wu Qingwen led them into the elevator and replied, “It’s not too bad. The owner is a wealthy investor who bought this unit purely for investment purposes. Rent is four thousand a month. It comes fully furnished with appliances and is on the twelfth floor, which is a good height.”
When they stepped into the apartment, it was just as Wu Qingwen had described. The decor was minimalist but complete, and the ventilation and natural lighting were great. The only issue was that it felt a little large.
“It’s a one-bedroom apartment with a living room, kitchen, and bathroom, a bit over seventy square meters,” Wu Qingwen explained while the two women walked around. She stood with her hands behind her back and said, “It’s not a duplex, but it’s spacious. I think a bigger space feels more comfortable to live in. What do you think?”
Cheng Wan looked around. Honestly, it was a great apartment—but a bit over her budget.
Wu Qingwen’s eyes followed Cheng Wan’s every move. She still remembered how Cheng Wan had answered the hotel door in her pajamas, looking sleepy and a little lost. She had been unexpectedly adorable.
Her junior, Chang Le, had mentioned that Cheng Wan was recently divorced and had nowhere to go. She seemed like a rather pitiful Omega.
At first, when Chang Le described her friend as gentle, obedient, and beautiful, Wu Qingwen thought she was exaggerating. After all, her junior had always been prone to flattery, even back in school. But now, she realized it was all true.
Such a beautiful and sweet Omega—what could possibly have made her ex-wife throw her out?
Wu Qingwen continued observing Cheng Wan thoughtfully. When Cheng Wan turned around and met her eyes, Wu Qingwen quickly smiled and showed off her neat white teeth. “So, shall we take a look at the next two?”
They went on to visit two more apartments. Both were excellent, with clean interiors and prime locations—places that would normally be difficult to find without insider connections.
By the time they finished, it was already past 3 p.m. While resting at a café, Cheng Wan finally made her decision.
She chose a compact unit of around forty square meters. It was in a seven-unit-per-floor building, with residential water, electricity, gas, central heating, and a dedicated property manager. Just outside was a commercial plaza and a metro station. Rent was two thousand a month, including utilities and gas.
It was nearly perfect, and they finalized the rental on the spot. Wu Qingwen drove Cheng Wan back to the hotel to pack.
“Since the contract is signed and the deposit’s paid, why not move in today?” Wu Qingwen suggested. “You’re still paying for each night at the hotel—what’s the point?”
Neither Cheng Wan nor Chang Le had any objections. That afternoon, they packed up and moved into the new place.
During her two weeks at the hotel, Cheng Wan had accumulated quite a few things. It wasn’t until she started packing that she realized everything barely fit into one car trunk.
Wu Qingwen drove them to the new apartment. It was clean enough to move in with just a quick tidy-up. The three of them worked together to freshen up the space, and soon it felt like a real home.
“This kind of counts as a housewarming, doesn’t it?” Chang Le suggested. “Senior, don’t leave just yet. You’ve been helping us all day, and we haven’t even treated you to a meal. Stay for dinner and celebrate with us.”
Wu Qingwen laughed. “Sure. So, what are you planning to treat me to?”
Although the question was directed at Chang Le, her eyes were on Cheng Wan. Those tea-colored eyes sparkled, making Cheng Wan feel a bit flustered.
“I want hot pot,” Chang Le said. Then she turned to Cheng Wan. “I saw a big supermarket across the street. Let’s go pick up some daily necessities and ingredients. We’ll need a lot of things to fully settle in.”
Cheng Wan nodded, and the three of them headed out to shop.
The supermarket was crowded, but since it was a large one, it had everything—pots, pans, utensils, and even small appliances.
Chang Le pushed the shopping cart ahead while Wu Qingwen walked side by side with Cheng Wan.
“When you first move in, don’t buy too much at once,” Wu Qingwen said casually while they stood by the dishware section. “Your apartment is pretty small, and it’s hard to store too many things. I have a checklist of useful items for renters, I’ll send it to you on WeChat later.”
Cheng Wan gave a small nod, her eyes drawn to the little dinosaur plate in Wu Qingwen’s hands. She spaced out for a moment.
That green cartoon dinosaur looked exactly like the one on the pair of slippers she used to wear at Bai Juntang’s house. Maybe it was from some popular brand collaboration?
Noticing her gaze, Wu Qingwen smiled and said, “Cute, right? This is the logo of a foreign home goods brand. They’ve expanded into tableware, clothing, and small appliances now, all featuring this little dinosaur. Really adorable stuff.”
As she spoke, she placed the plate into Cheng Wan’s hands. “If you like it, just get it. It’s not expensive.”
Cheng Wan looked down at the little dinosaur and quietly nodded.
After picking up a few pots and utensils, Cheng Wan and Wu Qingwen realized that Chang Le had disappeared with the cart.
Wu Qingwen sighed lightly and smiled. “That girl probably ran off to get snacks. I’ll grab an empty cart. There’s one just over there.”
She returned with a shopping cart and took the items from Cheng Wan’s arms, placing them carefully inside.
“If we’re having hot pot, we’ll need to buy an induction cooker too,” Wu Qingwen said as she looked around to get her bearings. Then she turned to Cheng Wan and smiled. “It should be in that section. Let’s go.”
They had only taken a few steps when they turned a corner and bumped into someone.
The woman was standing firmly behind her cart, blocking their path, and glaring at them.
When Cheng Wan saw who it was, her mind went blank. How was Bai Juntang here? She had purposely chosen an apartment as far from the Bai residence as possible. How could they still cross paths?
Bai Juntang was wearing casual clothes. Her long black hair was loose down her back, and she had on a denim jacket with comfortable pants. She looked more relaxed than usual, but her expression was intense and angry, which startled Cheng Wan.
Bai Juntang stared at her. It had only been two weeks, but Cheng Wan looked noticeably thinner.
The round, healthy glow she had during pregnancy was gone. Her face was visibly slimmer, and her whole demeanor looked tired. She seemed like she hadn’t been sleeping well.
Was she really struggling that much after leaving?
Bai Juntang felt a rush of frustration. She had already granted Cheng Wan what she asked for, so why was she still suffering?
Wu Qingwen didn’t recognize Bai Juntang. All she saw was a woman suddenly stepping out from behind a shelf, placing a hand firmly on a shopping cart to block them, and staring at Cheng Wan with a sharp, hostile look.
“Miss, is something wrong?” Wu Qingwen frowned slightly and instinctively stepped in front of Cheng Wan to shield her.
Only then did Bai Juntang glance at her.
She looked decent enough but wore nothing but common brands and didn’t even have any jewelry on. And yet here she was, standing so close to Cheng Wan, exchanging looks. The jealousy in Bai Juntang’s chest flared up. How dare someone like this try to get close to her?
“Do I owe you an explanation for who I am?” Bai Juntang said coldly, her voice sharp as she glared at Wu Qingwen. “I need to talk to her. Don’t get in the way.”
Wu Qingwen wasn’t someone to be pushed around. She could immediately tell that this alpha had no good intentions, and there was no way she was going to let her talk to Cheng Wan alone.
But before she could say anything, Cheng Wan gently tugged on her sleeve and spoke in a low voice. “It’s alright, Miss Wu. Let me talk to her for a bit.”
Wu Qingwen looked at her with concern. “Who is she?”
Cheng Wan lowered her eyes and replied softly, “My ex-wife.”
Wu Qingwen understood immediately.
She glanced at Bai Juntang. So this was the alpha who abandoned her. She looked good, sure, but what a horrible person.
Of course, Bai Juntang had no idea she was being judged like that. All she wanted was a moment alone with Cheng Wan. She had followed her all the way here without making a sound, barely daring to breathe. Thankfully, none of the three had any sense of being followed, which gave her the perfect excuse for this so-called “coincidence.”
Even if it was a bit forced, Bai Juntang didn’t care. She had been wanting to see Cheng Wan so badly. Every night, she had missed her.
But now, standing here with Cheng Wan finally in front of her, all those sarcastic lines she had rehearsed vanished from her mind. The only thing she wanted was to hold her.
“Cheng Wan…”
As soon as she spoke, Cheng Wan raised her head and looked at her. Her voice was calm but distant.
“Did you sign the divorce papers yet?”
