How Could a Scumbag Alpha Possibly Love His Wife? - Chapter 100
After walking around the shopping mall, Cheng Wan bought herself two sweaters and a thicker winter coat. She figured that winter would arrive soon, and by then, she might need even more clothes.
In addition to clothes and shoes, she also bought some snacks and drinks. According to Chang Le, Cheng Wan needed to put on some weight for the colder months; otherwise, how could she make it through the winter?
So, on their way back, Chang Le helped carry quite a few bags.
Once they arrived at the hotel, Chang Le opened the windows for some fresh air, took off her coat, and started sorting through their purchases. Holding the two sweaters, she asked Cheng Wan, “How do you wash clothes in the hotel? Do you have laundry detergent? Can these sweaters be washed by hand?”
Cheng Wan shook her head. “No. This is actually the first time I’ve gone out since I got here.”
“What? Then how have you been managing? What about your dirty clothes?” Chang Le walked around the small room. The hotel room was compact, just a double bed, a long desk, and a single chair. That was everything.
There were even fewer items in the bathroom. Most things were the hotel’s disposable amenities. Cheng Wan had even bought small bottles of shampoo and body wash from the convenience store.
After looking around curiously, Chang Le asked, “So, after you and Miss Bai separated, what’s your plan? Are you going to keep staying in hotels?”
She avoided saying the word “divorce.” Although she felt bad for Cheng Wan, they had talked during dinner, and Cheng Wan had clearly said it was she who had filed for divorce. She had also chosen to leave everything behind. Bai Juntang had simply accepted it.
Matters of the heart were never easy, and as an outsider, Chang Le didn’t want to interfere. Still, it broke her heart to see her old friend reduced to living in a hotel.
Cheng Wan took the items out of the bags. After a moment of thought, she said, “I haven’t made any firm decisions yet. I’ll stay in the hotel for now. Once I’ve thought things through, I’ll move.”
“But a month in a hotel costs at least three or four thousand, right? And you still need to eat. Do you have enough money?”
“I do.”
Cheng Wan spoke softly. “You might laugh, but the only thing I have left right now is money.”
Chang Le gave a dry laugh and sat down on the bed with a sigh. “But you can’t stay in a hotel forever. It’s not convenient, and it doesn’t feel like home. One or two months is fine, but you can’t live like this for long. You really need to find a place.”
Cheng Wan handed her a bottle of juice and replied, “It’s been freezing lately. Once it warms up a bit, I’ll start looking.”
Chang Le smiled. “If you’re afraid of the cold, that’s fine. I can help you. One of my classmates works at a real estate agency. I can ask her to keep an eye out for you. What kind of place are you looking for?”
Cheng Wan said, “Something small, convenient, and fully furnished.”
Chang Le nodded. “Got it. I’ll help you arrange it. Hopefully we can live near each other. That way, we can grab dinner after work.”
Cheng Wan smiled and nodded in agreement.
Compared to the gradually warming weather, things had been quite tense in the Bai household.
Aunt Pei and the maternity nurse were both hired help. They didn’t dare comment on the family’s affairs. Their job was to look after Sui Sui and do the household chores.
Lately, Bai Juntang hadn’t been going to the office. She stayed home like someone avoiding responsibility, frustrated with everything around her.
She even criticized Aunt Pei’s cooking over the smallest things.
Everyone knew she was upset because Cheng Wan had left. But shutting herself in all day wasn’t a solution. The atmosphere in the house was suffocating, and it wasn’t good for Sui Sui’s development either.
Sui Sui cried almost every other day, babbling constantly, flailing her arms and kicking her legs. Sometimes, she would start crying out of nowhere, leaving the nurse and Aunt Pei overwhelmed.
But the worst part wasn’t just Sui Sui. Bai Juntang would get angry every time she heard the baby crying, and her own mood would spiral too.
Seeing this, Aunt Pei quickly told the nurse to take the baby into another room, then braced herself to calm down the young madam.
“What would you like for lunch?” Aunt Pei asked. “You didn’t eat last night or this morning. Coffee alone won’t fill you up. You need to eat something.”
Bai Juntang looked annoyed. “I’m not hungry.”
“How about I make a simple stir-fry?”
“Not eating.”
“Then maybe a bowl of tomato and egg noodles?”
The moment she heard “tomato and egg noodles,” Bai Juntang remembered how she used to make them for Cheng Wan. Wan used to love them. Those times were warm and peaceful. The memory instantly triggered her. She snapped, yelling angrily, “No! And don’t ever mention tomato and egg noodles in this house again!”
Aunt Pei was stunned. What had tomatoes and eggs ever done to her? Why such an intense reaction?
Just then, they heard a car pull up outside. Aunt Pei glanced out and said, “Is Madam back?”
Sure enough, Bai Weilan walked in. Aunt Pei went to greet her, helping carry her bag, coat, and jewelry. As Bai Weilan changed her shoes, she asked, “Why are you back so early? Not going to the office this afternoon?”
“There’s nothing important going on today,” Bai Weilan replied. She glanced toward the living room and asked, “What has she been doing today?”
Aunt Pei answered in a low voice, “She threw quite a tantrum.”
“What was it about this time?”
“Tomato and egg noodles.”
“What?”
“I just asked if she wanted some for lunch. She got so angry her face turned pale.”
Bai Weilan sighed. “She probably just doesn’t like tomatoes anymore. It’s nothing serious. Just make something simple for lunch. From the look of her, she’s not going to eat much anyway. Make something I like.”
Aunt Pei nodded and went to prepare lunch.
Bai Weilan walked into the living room, gently patted Bai Juntang on the head, and asked, “It’s been almost two weeks. When are you going to let this go?”
Bai Juntang stayed silent, her face dark and unreadable.
Bai Weilan said calmly, “If you really still care about Cheng Wan, then go see her. Don’t just sit here sulking and snapping at Aunt Pei. She’s just working here for a living. She doesn’t owe you anything.”
Bai Juntang knew she had indeed lost her temper today. Her words had been harsh. With a helpless sigh, she said stiffly, “I didn’t mean to take it out on Aunt Pei. I’ll go apologize to her in a bit.”
“Your Aunt Pei doesn’t care whether you apologize or not. It’s your attitude that’s upsetting to watch,” Bai Weilan said as she sat down on the sofa. She looked at Bai Juntang and added, “You can’t go on like this. Are you really not going to give Cheng Wan a call?”
With a hardened expression, Bai Juntang replied, “No. Why should I?”
She was the one being divorced. If anyone had the right to feel wronged, it was her. Why should she be the one to give in first?
Bai Juntang had grown up pampered and adored. It was difficult for her to lower her pride. She knew she lacked experience in relationships, but this was the first time she had truly fallen for someone. Didn’t she deserve a chance to learn?
Besides, she could feel that Cheng Wan had loved her too. Why did they have to divorce in such a cold and distant way?
She couldn’t understand it. They had been so good together. Isn’t that what a happy family was supposed to look like?
So what was Cheng Wan still holding onto?
Watching her daughter stew in silence, Bai Weilan calmly repeated, “Are you sure you don’t want to call her?”
Bai Juntang didn’t respond. Her face remained dark and unreadable.
Bai Weilan continued, “Do you even know where she’s been this past week? What she’s been doing? Whether she’s left the city? Don’t you care at all? She gave you a divorce agreement, but you still haven’t signed it. As long as you don’t, she’s still your legal partner.”
“Cheng Wan’s health isn’t great, and the weather is getting colder by the day. Who knows what she’s eating or drinking out there?” Bai Weilan said coolly. “If you truly don’t care about her anymore, then sign the divorce papers. That way, she’ll have time to find someone new. Who knows, maybe by next spring, she’ll have found Sui Sui a new mom.”
Her words grew more cutting with each sentence. By the end, Bai Juntang felt like her head was about to explode. The thought of someone else becoming Sui Sui’s mother made her blood boil.
It was clear Bai Weilan had no intention of letting the topic go today. The constant mention of Cheng Wan made Bai Juntang deeply uncomfortable. She stood up without saying a word to her mother and headed upstairs, needing to escape.
But Bai Weilan wasn’t worried. She knew her daughter still kept that divorce agreement close. She looked at it dozens of times a day. Once, she had finally decided to sign it, pen in hand, but the moment the tip touched the paper, she froze. Not a single stroke came out.
Eventually, she broke the pen and never tried again.
Back in her bedroom, many things had recently been changed or thrown out by Bai Juntang in a fit of frustration. She sat down at the small desk by the window. Just then, her phone rang at the worst possible moment.
She answered, and the person on the other end reported, “President Bai, Miss Cheng left the hotel today. She was with two people. One was a colleague named Chang Le. The other was an alpha, dressed very formally. The three of them seemed cheerful and got into a private car together.”
Hearing this, Bai Juntang had to suppress the urge to smash her phone. “Why did she get into someone else’s car? Who is that person? Have you checked their background?”
The person sounded nervous as they replied, “We’re still investigating. We’ve found the registration information through the license plate, but the details are still unclear…”
“Find out quickly,” Bai Juntang snapped. “Send me your location. I’m coming over now.”
“But we’re still following the car. We’re not sure yet where they’re going.”
“Send me the current location anyway. Once they get out of the car, send me another update.”
The person agreed and hung up. Soon after, Bai Juntang received the location. It was in another district, about ten kilometers from her home, almost on the opposite side of the city.
She didn’t waste time wondering where it was. She grabbed her phone and coat and headed downstairs.
As she came down, she saw Bai Weilan sitting in the living room playing with the cat. Guazi had long since grown used to the constant visitors. It was never shy and had gradually warmed up to everyone.
Seeing her daughter dressed to go out, Bai Weilan asked casually, “Where are you going?”
While changing her shoes, Bai Juntang replied, “It’s too stuffy in here. I’m going out for a walk.”
Bai Weilan said calmly, “Don’t stay out too late. That district’s quite far from here. And remember to eat something. No one’s going to feed you once you get there.”
Bai Juntang paused for a moment, glanced at her mother, grunted in response, and walked out the door.
