How Can Two Scummy Alphas Fall in Love - Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The manager’s face was paler than someone with diarrhea. He had been sitting upright, but one glare from Han Fufu made him jump from the sofa.
“Movie Queen Han, this matter… I, I really didn’t mean it. I didn’t know! I truly didn’t know.” The manager knew that any further defense was useless, so he might as well insist he was unaware of the details.
Seeing the manager’s timid and cowering demeanor, while claiming ignorance, his whole body trembled uncontrollably. He was practically on the verge of kneeling and crying, “Please forgive me, my lord.”
“I advise you to tell the truth. Sister Han may have a good temper, but she doesn’t have much patience,” Gu Xue’er smiled like an angel, but her tone was icy cold.
The manager looked into Gu Xue’er’s eyes, and his voice immediately took on a desperate, crying tone. He confessed everything. “It was Xu Ran who told me to do it. That whistle really isn’t the decorative pendant Xu Ran usually wears. Xu Ran heard people say that a special whistle could spook a horse, so I arranged to have one made and told my cousin, the cleaner, to sneak into the stable and scare the horse.”
“Heard people say?” Han Fufu’s three simple words directly suggested that there might be a mastermind behind the scenes.
Gu Xue’er stroked her chin thoughtfully, then looked up at Han Fufu. “Sister Han, it’s not necessarily a mastermind. Maybe this manager is trying to shift the blame. He was just claiming ignorance and unawareness, but now he’s spitting out so much information all at once.”
“That’s true, especially since Miss Xu is infatuated with your cousin. My relationship with your cousin makes her jealous, so it’s normal for her to want to harm me.” Han Fufu leaned back against the couch, a proud smile playing on her lips. “To use such a clumsy plan to take revenge on me and thereby gain Qiao Qiao? That’s far too naive.”
Gu Xue’er was aware that her cousin sometimes used Han Fufu to stage acts to ward off difficult Omegas, so she was sensible enough not to expose the true nature of Han Fufu and Qin Qiao’s relationship. Instead, she sided with Han Fufu. “Exactly. Everyone knows she’s not worthy of my cousin. The only person who can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with my cousin is Sister Han.”
Han Fufu rarely spent time alone with Gu Xue’er and didn’t have much close professional interaction with this high-society Omega. This was the first time she realized that Gu Xue’er was very astute in all aspects.
For an Omega from an elite family to be eloquent, observant, and mentally sharp was truly rare.
Xu Ran gritted her teeth. After a moment of contemplation, she lowered her head in a gesture of admission.
“It was me.” Xu Ran sounded relieved after speaking those two words.
Han Fufu hadn’t expected Xu Ran to admit guilt so quickly. She raised an eyebrow. “Then how should I handle you?”
At the mention of punishment, the forced composure on Xu Ran’s face dissolved into panic. She quickly moved to Han Fufu, directly kneeling on the floor. “I can lose my career, but I have a younger brother who is still in school and needs care. He is frail, and entirely dependent on me… CEO Han, I beg you, please leave me at least one job, any job will do.”
Han Fufu looked down at the pitiful Omega kneeling on the floor. She lightly raised her leg and used the tip of her shiny leather shoe to lift Xu Ran’s chin.
“Seeing you cry so pitifully, it makes my heart ache.”
Xu Ran didn’t dare to breathe.
Han Fufu withdrew her leg, stood up, and smoothed her hair. Without saying another word, she slowly walked toward the door.
“Sister Han, are you…” This time, Gu Xue’er didn’t understand Han Fufu’s meaning and chased after her, intending to ask.
Han Fufu stopped at the exit. “Don’t let this happen again. This time, we’ll treat it as an accidental incident during horseback riding.”
Gu Xue’er was very surprised by this. She remembered the rumors that the two top Alphas in the capital, Han Fufu and Qin Qiao, were ruthless people. Why would she…
After leaving the hotel, Han Fufu continued with her afternoon schedule. The Han family’s intelligent manufacturing sector was currently in the process of coordinating with manufacturers, and Han Fufu was highly focused on this work, personally overseeing many procedures.
After scouting multiple manufacturers, Han Fufu finally settled on a relatively promising new company.
She arranged to meet the people from that company to discuss business. Han Fufu returned to her city apartment to change into more formal attire before heading to the destination.
Her assistant, Cong Sheng, informed her that the two sides had agreed to meet at a coffee shop. The shop’s design style was unique, featuring soundproof private rooms with glass partitions all around. The implication was that the movie queen’s presence could easily cause chaos.
“No clearing the area?” Han Fufu frowned. She disliked being completely covered up in public, and naturally, she despised being chased by fans and paparazzi even more.
The assistant looked troubled. “CEO Han, the coffee shop owner suddenly refused to clear the area. I only just found out, and the representative from the manufacturing company only received the non-clearance notice recently. It seems the owner abruptly changed their mind, saying it’s the shop’s anniversary, and they can’t close to the public.”
“Then change the location,” Han Fufu’s expression darkened.
The assistant shook his head. “It’s too late for a last-minute change. The manufacturer arranged to start work tomorrow and inspect the machinery tonight. So, only this afternoon is available to confirm the project details.”
“Is there still time before the meeting?” Han Fufu was never late for business meetings and usually arrived early.
The assistant nodded. “Traffic is good today. We can arrive half an hour early.”
“I’m going to see who this owner is,” Han Fufu’s mood was sour.
The assistant knew Han Fufu was close to getting angry. “CEO Han, it’s our inefficiency.”
Han Fufu was displeased. “You can’t even handle a small matter.”
The assistant dared not disturb Han Fufu for the rest of the drive. Everyone in the capital’s upper echelon knew that Han Fufu and Qin Qiao had vastly different temperaments.
Qin Qiao was known for being cold and heartless, so no one dared to make a mistake in her presence.
Han Fufu often smiled and wasn’t easily angered. But once a work issue arose, her anger was much harder to extinguish than Qin Qiao’s.
If this coffee shop owner didn’t agree to clear the area today, they risked truly infuriating Han Fufu.
This was the first time Cong Sheng was genuinely worried about a stranger’s well-being, knowing Han Fufu had the power to make life impossible for any ordinary person in the capital.
As soon as they arrived at the coffee shop, Han Fufu, wearing sunglasses, headed straight for the counter. She smiled politely and asked, “Where is your boss? I need to see them.”
The cashier was a Beta. She couldn’t smell pheromones but was drawn in by Han Fufu’s aura.
It wasn’t the busiest time yet, but there were still a scattered number of people in the coffee shop. Even with sunglasses on, Han Fufu drew frequent attention from those around her. Her physique was excellent, and her perfect lower face, with the sunglasses concealing the rest, only sparked more curiosity.
“Our boss does not meet customers,” the cashier said. Then, remembering something, she added, “However, the boss said that if a Miss Han came looking, she could be seen.”
Hearing this, a large part of Han Fufu’s irritation turned into curiosity.
Who was this owner, so intent on getting her attention, and deliberately wanting to see her?
The cashier found the person in front of her familiar and her demeanor extraordinary. She asked uncertainly, “Are you Miss Han…”
“I am.” Han Fufu didn’t let the cashier finish, afraid that someone with good hearing nearby would catch the name and cause a commotion.
The cashier’s face changed. She walked to Han Fufu’s side and led the way, gesturing for her to follow. “Miss Han, please follow me inside.”
Han Fufu grew more curious about the identity of the owner and followed the cashier.
The assistant followed suit. “CEO Han, I’ll go with you.”
“Mhm.” Han Fufu habitually brought someone with her when meeting strangers, just in case a competitor harbored malicious intentions, ensuring her safety.
There was a small partitioned area on the second floor of the coffee shop, which looked like a private office.
The cashier knocked on the door. “CEO Yue, the person is here.”
When Han Fufu heard the rare surname “Yue,” a person instantly popped into her mind.
Before Han Fufu could think further, the person from her memory appeared at the door.
Yue Ying opened the door and stood at the entrance. Upon seeing Han Fufu, she smiled. “Fufu, long time no see.”
“A Ying?” Han Fufu scrutinized her good friend, whom she hadn’t seen in over a year.
The person in front of her wore plain clothes and Buddhist prayer beads on her wrist. The faint woody, smoky scent on her was not pheromones. Yue Ying was a Beta and had no pheromones, but she loved practicing Buddhism and meditation, which resulted in a faint incense scent clinging to her over time. She was about the same height as Han Fufu. Combined with her attractive looks and good family background, many people would mistakenly assume the scent on her was her Alpha pheromones.
“It’s me, Fufu.” Yue Ying opened her arms and took a few steps forward, enthusiastically embracing Han Fufu.
Both women carried a similar sandalwood scent—one was a pheromone, the other incense. Yet, when they stood together, it was hard to distinguish the source of the scent.
If Qin Qiao was Han Fufu’s most important close friend, then Yue Ying was another indispensable friend from Han Fufu’s student days, second only to Qin Qiao.
“CEO Han, you two know each other?” The assistant was completely stunned, watching Han Fufu transition from a state of irritation to a warm smile. In his year working for the Han family, this was the first time he’d seen Han Fufu genuinely enthusiastic toward anyone besides Qin Qiao.
Han Fufu nodded. She looked at Yue Ying and suddenly remembered something. “The new manufacturer partnering with my company is yours, right?”
“You just figured it out? I thought my surname was rare enough that you would recognize it immediately.” Yue Ying smiled faintly, took two steps back, and gestured an invitation. “My office has good privacy. Do you still need to clear the area?”
“Where are your factory people?” Han Fufu sat down at the tea table, casually playing with a few antique tea cups, then tapped the tabletop. “Tell me, you run a coffee shop, yet you have a Gongfu tea table in your office. What do you call this, a blend of Chinese and Western styles?”
“The value of running a coffee shop at this location far outweighs that of a tea room, and I happen to love drinking tea. How is that not a blend of Chinese and Western styles?” Yue Ying couldn’t help but laugh after speaking.
Han Fufu chuckled too. “Your advanced studies abroad these past few years have been effective. You used to only care about romance and leisure, never talking about value or worth.”
“Romance and leisure are important, but profit is also important. Otherwise, my dad would call me a spendthrift,” Yue Ying motioned to the employee who had led Han Fufu up. “Tell them not to hide anymore. Ask them to come up.”
“You staged this whole thing just to mess with me,” Han Fufu complained, but her expression remained smiling the whole time. She wasn’t angry at all.
Yue Ying spread her hands, then poured a cup of tea for Han Fufu. “I tried to give you a surprise, but did I make you angry instead? Here, drink a cup of the excellent tea I personally brewed. Don’t be mad.”
“I would never truly be angry with you.” Han Fufu took the teacup and drank it in one go.
Once the factory department heads arrived, Han Fufu began confirming the work details.
The work negotiation went smoothly. Yue Ying, having been tempered by her experiences abroad, had solid professional knowledge and much-improved capabilities. Coupled with Han Fufu’s trust in her, the work was completed ahead of schedule.
“Let’s go. Dinner is on me. To celebrate our successful partnership and to welcome you back.” Han Fufu considered where to eat. “How about that Western restaurant along Central Park?”
“I’ve been eating Western food for over a year. I’ll throw up if I eat any more,” Yue Ying toyed with the prayer beads on her hand. “Besides, I’m fasting today. Join me for vegetarian food. Michelin-level creative vegetarian cuisine.”
Han Fufu was coincidentally trying to lose weight, and she thought vegetarian food indeed had fewer calories. She agreed readily.
Yue Ying had already sampled the vegetarian restaurant, and Han Fufu didn’t know the way, so she followed Yue Ying’s car.
Without subordinates trailing them, Han Fufu and Yue Ying could finally chat freely.
Han Fufu listened as Yue Ying recounted her experiences abroad over the past year. When the conversation turned interesting, she also shared updates on her own life over the past year.
The time on the road flew by in conversation, and the two quickly arrived at the vegetarian restaurant.
Upon entering the restaurant, a server greeted them and led them to an empty private room.
The room wasn’t entirely enclosed. One side was a glass partition, but the glass was anti-peeping material. They could see outside, but outsiders couldn’t see inside.
Han Fufu sat down and looked around the environment. “Nice. This place is quite elegant.”
“I heard many celebrities on diets often frequent here, so I brought you,” Yue Ying put down her prayer beads. Since she had been here before, she took charge of ordering.
Han Fufu, with nothing to do, stared at Yue Ying’s prayer beads. She thought they looked familiar and only later realized she had given them to Yue Ying before she went abroad, specially blessed by a master for safety.
“Does this thing work?” she asked casually.
Yue Ying had just finished ordering. Following Han Fufu’s gaze to the prayer beads by her hand, she smiled knowingly. “It works. I’ve been safe and healthy abroad.”
“That’s good,” Han Fufu said.
The restaurant served the food quickly, dish by dish.
Han Fufu hadn’t had much flavor in her mouth after dieting for so many days. This meal was the most satisfying she had eaten in recent times.
After the meal, Han Fufu’s spirits lifted as she walked down the elegantly decorated restaurant corridor. People tend to be irritable when dieting, and while Han Fufu’s good nature made it less obvious, she still felt she had been frowning more often lately.
“This place is great. I should come back often.” As Han Fufu spoke and looked ahead, a couple walked past her.
The scent of spearmint wafted past her nose. Han Fufu quickly walked to the junction of the aisle, alert.
That back was definitely Qin Qiao’s!
She was embracing a ponytail-wearing Omega, and when she turned her head to speak, she revealed a rare hint of tenderness.
“Fufu, what’s wrong? Why are you walking so fast all of a sudden?” Yue Ying caught up to Han Fufu, about to ask what was going on, but then she turned her head and saw the faint expression of disappointment in Han Fufu’s eyes.
