- Chapter 58 - Gland Out of Control
Liu Yu sat on the hospital bed waiting for Shang Qing’s examination. Shang Qing first flipped through the reports and then inspected Liu Yu’s gland…
As Liu Yu waited, Shang Qing noted that the surface of the gland had become so red and swollen that it was hardening; the wound on the pheromone gland had collapsed to the point of expansion. This was very bad news.
An expanding gland meant an internal pathology was causing the surface to distend. The range of a pheromone gland is typically only a small area, slightly larger than a coin, but Liu Yu’s gland had already exceeded this limit.
If it continued to expand, Liu Yu could die from the pain; the inflammation of the gland would directly infect the nerves, and in severe cases, cause simultaneous organ failure.
Listening to Shang Qing’s words, Lou Qingshuang instantly understood why Liu Yu was so certain that someone was behind this incident. Who else, knowing Liu Yu’s physical condition, would arrange such a scene when she wasn’t paying attention? It could only be an enemy—one who understood her particularly well.
Knowing the two had private matters to discuss, Lou Qingshuang took the initiative to leave the ward.
Liu Yu watched Lou Qingshuang’s retreating figure. “She and her family need more protection around them.”
“We’ll arrange that later. For now, let’s save your life first,” Shang Qing said as she packed away the instruments.
“My physical condition has been leaked,” Liu Yu said, looking up at Shang Qing. Her medical status had always been strictly confidential; very few people knew the truth.
Shang Qing’s hand paused, her eyes turning cold. “I’ll investigate this once we’re back at the hospital.” She was reluctant to believe there was a traitor at Anxi Bridge Hospital, but people would do anything for profit. They had, after all, experienced such things before.
After finishing the check-up, an idea suddenly popped into Shang Qing’s head. “If Lou Qingshuang could mark you, she could provide deep-level soothing for your pheromone gland.”
Liu Yu frowned, quickly following Shang Qing’s logic, but before she could speak, Shang Qing interrupted her.
“Extract her pheromones and concentrate them to make a maximum-strength pheromone soothing agent.” Seeing Liu Yu about to protest, Shang Qing immediately proposed this solution, as it was the most effective and fastest way.
“No, that method is too risky.” Liu Yu shook her head in refusal, her gaze fixed steadily on Shang Qing. “I cannot let her take that risk.”
“But—” Shang Qing tried to argue.
Liu Yu made a gesture to stop her. “You know how dangerous extracting pheromones is. One mistake and it could ruin her gland, making her unable to receive pheromones normally or release them. The impact on an Omega is immense; it would cause her to wither.”
“I don’t need that. Synthetic pheromones are fine. If there’s truly no other way, I’ll take that person behind the scenes down with me before I go.” The depth in Liu Yu’s gaze made Shang Qing feel a chill.
“Then let Lou Qingshuang stay with you. If she can induce your next heat, it might alleviate your current condition. You two can use more temporary markings during this time,” Shang Qing suggested, having no other immediate options.
“Fine.” Liu Yu agreed to this plan. “Don’t tell her about the extraction method when you go out.”
Shang Qing’s hands paused while packing, but she eventually nodded.
When Shang Qing opened the ward door, Lou Qingshuang stood up to face her. “Doctor Shang, is there a way?”
Shang Qing looked at Lou Qingshuang, her eyes flickering as she suppressed what she wanted to say. Liu Yu was right; that method shouldn’t be used.
Shang Qing wore the reassuring smile of a doctor addressing a family member. “Miss Lou, I’ll need you to work a bit harder during this time. Liu Yu will be in desperate need of pheromone soothing. With your 100% compatibility, it can provide some relief for her distress.”
“Okay.” Lou Qingshuang nodded, her eyes filled with worry. “Does Yu-Yu need to transfer hospitals?”
“She needs to leave here quietly and find a safe place to recover.” Shang Qing had many more suspicions she hadn’t voiced.
The most important thing was for Liu Yu to leave before the news spread. The rest could be handled by Luo Xiangxue and the security captain, Huai An.
“Then I’ll go in to see her. If you need any help, you can tell me,” Lou Qingshuang said, noticing Shang Qing was clearly hiding something.
“I will,” Shang Qing replied with a smile.
Lou Qingshuang pushed open the door. Liu Yu was still looking at investigation reports, trying to find clues.
“Stop looking and rest first.” Lou Qingshuang placed her hand on the tablet, blocking Liu Yu’s view. “This won’t be solved in a moment. We’ll know more once Qiu Mi comes out of the emergency room.” She set the tablet aside.
“Alright, I’ll listen to you.” Liu Yu leaned against the headboard, smiling at Lou Qingshuang.
“Sleep for a while.” Lou Qingshuang tucked the covers around her.
“I won’t sleep; we’re leaving soon. Will you come back with me?” Liu Yu gripped Lou Qingshuang’s hand, looking at her softly.
Lou Qingshuang sat by the bed, seeing Liu Yu’s furrowed brows and the pain in her eyes. Sweat trickled down from Liu Yu’s hairline. She picked up a towel and gently wiped it away bit by bit. “I’ve already arranged my work. I’ll go with you.”
Liu Yu watched Lou Qingshuang as she leaned down to patiently wipe the sweat, just quietly watching her.
At four in the morning, a news story suddenly broke: The Chairman of the Liu Group has fallen critically ill; currently in the hospital, life or death unknown. The report was accompanied by a video of Liu Yu being supported and photos of her entering the hospital.
Qiu Mi hit the news at the same time.
[Breaking News: A-list actress Qiu Mi was rushed to the hospital in the early hours, suspected pheromone loss of control.]
The two stories broke simultaneously. They seemed unrelated, but their synchronized rise in trending topics was eerie.
When Zhu Yan saw these reports, she sighed, “The Chairman predicted it again. The person behind this was bound to stir up trouble.”
It turned out Liu Yu had been guarding against someone using this incident to create a media firestorm from the very beginning. She had surmised the opponent would be unable to wait and would strike in the early hours.
Zhu Yan immediately organized the secretariat to investigate and the PR department to take down the news regarding Liu Yu. Qiu Mi’s trending topics were also suppressed, leaving her fans tagging her frantically, waiting for a corporate response.
Inside the RV, Lou Qingshuang accompanied Liu Yu. She had seen the news too. With both stories appearing at once, was the enemy trying to frame Liu Yu for something?
Lou Qingshuang’s brow was tight, her body tense. Liu Yu had already lost consciousness. The driver pressed the accelerator, racing toward Lu City.
Shang Qing and two accompanying doctors monitored Liu Yu’s condition nonstop.
“Director Shang, the Chairman’s condition is deteriorating again. Her pheromones can no longer be released autonomously,” said the doctor who had once saved Lou Qingshuang’s mother, his voice filled with anxiety.
Shang Qing bit her finger, her mind racing through options to delay the decline. Looking at the beeping monitors, she suddenly turned to Lou Qingshuang. “Miss Lou.”
“What is it?” Lou Qingshuang looked at the unconscious Liu Yu, whose face was pale and drenched in sweat. Her heart tightened.
Shang Qing licked her lips, suppressing her original thought, and spoke with difficulty. “Try to actively induce Liu Yu’s heat cycle.”
“She… she is too compatible with you.” Shang Qing struggled to keep herself from revealing the final, risky solution. “Liu Yu must wake up before seven tomorrow morning, or the Liu Group’s stock will plummet.” Shang Qing looked at Lou Qingshuang pleadingly. Inducing a heat in an RV was indeed a difficult request.
Lou Qingshuang’s fingers tightened. Her gaze swept over the unconscious Liu Yu. It wasn’t a lie when Liu Yu said she could die at any moment.
“Fine. You all leave first.” Seeing the woman who had been so intimate with her earlier that day lying there now gave Lou Qingshuang a strange sense of unreality. She reached out and took Liu Yu’s hand.
Shang Qing signaled the two doctors to follow her out. The pheromone overloaded device in the vehicle gradually returned to normal in the absence of high-concentration pheromones.
The RV became quiet. This modified vehicle was essentially a small room; once the door to the driver’s cabin was closed, it became a private, sealed space.
Lou Qingshuang sat beside Liu Yu, lightly stroking her hair. Seeing Liu Yu’s closed eyes, a fire-like anxiety burned in her heart—an anxiety so intense she could hardly think. She didn’t quite understand her own heart, but she knew clearly that she cared deeply for Liu Yu.
“Liu Yu,” she sighed.
Lou Qingshuang removed the unnecessary instruments from Liu Yu’s body, leaving only the heart rate monitor. She gently touched Liu Yu’s scorching pheromone gland. That once soft area had become extremely hard, like sun-baked earth.
The skin around the gland was deep red. Lou Qingshuang’s fingertips brought a hint of coolness as she leaned down to kiss the gland gently.
When a pheromone gland becomes congested and hardens, it can no longer release pheromones. Lou Qingshuang had to try and draw them out.
Liu Yu’s body was in a state of continuous, stifling heat. Pheromones trapped inside the body caused agony no less than having someone slowly twist a knife through one’s flesh. This blockage would further destroy the gland, and most critically, if left uncontrolled, it could lead to glandular necrosis.
The needles available in Wu City weren’t fine enough to drain Liu Yu’s pheromones, so this temporary method was the only way to soothe her. Lou Qingshuang tried to use her own pheromones to lure Liu Yu’s out, hoping the pheromones would sense their favorite scent.
Lou Qingshuang lowered her head against Liu Yu’s shoulder. Her red lips opened and bit into Liu Yu’s pheromone gland. Her own pheromones exploded in an instant. The S-class Omega pheromones filled the space immediately—the scent of passionate roses enveloping Liu Yu, calling to her consciousness.
Like roses blooming intensely on a rainy night, dark red petals stained with raindrops, blooming to the limit.
Liu Yu’s pheromones smelled the scent of the little rose. They wanted to burst out of the congested, clumped gland to wrap around their rose, to respond to the call. Physiological instinct began to take over this loss of control.
The pheromones surged within Liu Yu’s gland. She knit her brows in pain, her body lifting slightly, hands clenched into fists, instinctively trying to escape the bone-deep agony in her neck.
Lou Qingshuang pressed down on her. “Endure it,” she whispered hoarsely against Liu Yu’s ear.
The heart rate monitor beeped incessantly. Liu Yu suddenly rolled over, curling up in pain, pulling Lou Qingshuang onto the bed with her. Her heart rate fluctuated wildly.
Lou Qingshuang lifted herself to look at the suffering Liu Yu. Taking a deep breath, she lay back down and held Liu Yu tightly, using her body and scent to provide comfort.
She glanced at her phone; they were ten minutes away from Anxi Bridge Hospital. She let out a sigh of relief. “Just a little longer, we’ll be at the hospital soon for the procedure.”
Lou Qingshuang held Liu Yu firmly, her arms straining as her teeth bit into the gland. Countless rose-scented pheromones tried to drill into Liu Yu’s system.
Liu Yu suddenly snapped her eyes open. She flipped over, pinning Lou Qingshuang to the bed. Her pupils were dark and fixed, devoid of emotion or reason—only the gaze of a predator looking at prey.
Liu Yu lowered her head, sniffing Lou Qingshuang’s nose. Her right hand pinned Lou Qingshuang’s wrists to the headboard. Her nose moved slowly downward, her hot breath trailing over Lou Qingshuang’s neck. Lou Qingshuang instinctively turned her head to block the touch.
Seeing the completely irrational Liu Yu, Lou Qingshuang’s legs moved restlessly, trying to push her off, but she couldn’t move. She could only speak. “Liu Yu, look at me.”
Liu Yu was deaf to her words. Her nose rubbed against Lou Qingshuang’s neck, her tongue following the movement.
“Liu Yu, we’re almost at the hospital… you mustn’t kiss me…”
Before Lou Qingshuang could finish, Liu Yu had already brushed her hair aside and kissed her neck. Her left hand forcefully stroked Lou Qingshuang’s gland. The intensity of the touch made Lou Qingshuang tense up, her lashes fluttering, her eyes filled with a distinct yearning.
“Yu-Yu, look at me,” Lou Qingshuang whispered in her softest, gentlest voice.
Liu Yu’s other hand slid down her waist. She bit into Lou Qingshuang’s neck, gradually moving her kiss toward the gland.
Lou Qingshuang’s pupils dilated slightly. She lifted a leg to try and create distance, but Liu Yu grabbed her thigh. In that moment, Lou Qingshuang lost all defensive posture.
“Liu Yu, we’re almost there. You have to control yourself… I don’t want people to see me looking disheveled,” Lou Qingshuang said softly, looking up at the ceiling of the RV.
Liu Yu’s marking fangs emerged, her eyes entirely consumed by desire. With a sudden force, she bit through Lou Qingshuang’s pheromone gland.
Just then, Shang Qing knocked on the door.
Knock, knock—
“Don’t come in!” Lou Qingshuang shouted toward the door, her brow furrowed in distress.
A temporary marking without the exchange of pheromones was like being injected with a syringe full of air. It was agonizingly uncomfortable. An inexplicable emptiness surged through her body, causing a wave of nausea.
The gland had been ready for the connection, but after the bite, there was nothing. The resulting void and discomfort made Lou Qingshuang writhe slightly, her brow tightly knotted.
Having lost her reason, Liu Yu desperately wanted to complete the temporary mark, but she couldn’t squeeze any pheromones out. The blocked pheromones were trapped at the edge of her hardened gland, unable to break through the surface.
“It hurts,” Liu Yu groaned, curling up in agony once more. This time, the pain radiated through her entire body. Tears and sweat mingled as she lost all control over her physical instincts.
