- Chapter 57 - Liu Yu's Unusual Request
Liu Yu’s brows furrowed deeply as her pheromones turned violent. Her eyes darkened with intensity as she exerted every ounce of willpower to maintain her sanity, consciously avoiding any contact with Qiu Mi’s pheromones.
With a swift press on her watch, an emergency assault notification was instantly dispatched, her GPS location updating in real-time.
Luo Xiangxue, who had been conversing with a prominent director, dropped everything the moment she saw the alert on her phone. She sprinted toward the banquet hall, her long gown hindering her stride. With a forceful tug and a sharp rip, she tore the hem of her skirt up to her thigh to free her legs.
The bodyguards stationed outside charged in simultaneously; not even a minute had passed since the alarm.
Inside, Gu Hua was frantically working with servers to separate the Alphas and Omegas who were showing signs of going into heat. He didn’t dare blink, terrified that some “god-forsaken bastard” would sneak over and cause a scandal. If word of this got out, his career in the film industry would be over.
Liu Yu’s eyes were bloodshot. She leaned heavily against a chair, panting for breath, having already unbuttoned the top collar of her crisp shirt.
“Chairman, let me apply some pheromone neutralizer for you,” Gu Hua stammered, his hands trembling as he sprayed the air around Liu Yu to block out the drifting scents of other Omegas.
Liu Yu slowly turned her lowered head, her gaze as sharp and clinical as a blade as she scrutinized him. “Were you involved in this?”
The sheer weight of the pressure in her eyes nearly brought Gu Hua to tears. Sweat poured down his forehead. The implication of her question was clear: if he were involved, he’d likely end up at the bottom of a river.
“No… Chairman…” Gu Hua withered under her heavy stare. Her gaze felt like a mountain crushing down on him; he bowed his head, his back soaked in cold sweat.
“Chairman Liu!” Luo Xiangxue burst in like a whirlwind to support her, followed by five bodyguards.
Watching the crowd surround Liu Yu, Qiu Mi felt a flicker of fear. If Liu Yu left now, the entire performance would be for nothing.
“Gu Hua, what happened?” Luo Xiangxue demanded, her eyes fixed on the panicked man.
“I don’t know why, but the Alphas and Omegas suddenly started acting like this. I’ve already called for doctors,” Gu Hua stammered, wiping sweat from his brow. “Hotel staff are checking if someone tampered with something. This really has nothing to do with me! I don’t know which damn soul did this!”
“I’ve already ordered a gag on everyone; this won’t leak out,” Gu Hua added, falling back on his usual damage control methods.
Though only minutes had passed, Gu Hua’s mind was racing through a dozen conspiracies. He figured if someone wanted to climb into a bed, they wouldn’t choose a method this reckless.
Qiu Mi’s face was flushed a deep peach, her breath hot and shallow. Watching Liu Yu being led away, she realized her own heat was approaching. She couldn’t let Liu Yu leave. If she did, everything would be wasted. Steeling her resolve, Qiu Mi released her pheromones, feigning a total loss of control, and collapsed.
Suddenly, an overwhelming scent of coffee erupted, “blindly” lunging toward Liu Yu in an attempt to make her stay.
The S-class pheromones emanating from Liu Yu were a powerful beacon that Omegas naturally craved. It was an instinctual, genetic drive—a stronger Alpha represented a higher rate of survival.
Qiu Mi’s pheromones clung to Liu Yu, trying to bypass the now-useless suppression patches, desperate for a response. Just one response.
The impact of Qiu Mi’s scent sent a wave of nausea through Liu Yu; she nearly gagged.
Liu Yu’s security captain immediately raised a canister of pheromone neutralizer and sprayed it like he was killing a cockroach. The “coffee” scent clinging to Liu Yu was instantly severed.
Qiu Mi fainted and was promptly rushed to the hospital by Gu Hua.
“Investigate,” Liu Yu spat out the word with chilling venom. Luo Xiangxue immediately went to work.
Qiu Mi thought her plan was flawless, but with so many people affected, a simple blood test would reveal the truth.
Luo Xiangxue soon received the medical reports. Her brows knitted at the words Pheromone Catalyst. It was a prohibited substance. Who had brought it in?
“Doctor, can you identify the specific type of catalyst?” Luo Xiangxue asked over the phone to the security captain.
“There are too many varieties; the doctors can’t name the specific brand yet,” the captain replied. “But based on the onset time, it’s a fast-acting catalyst that works within thirty minutes. These aren’t common on the market. We are currently tracing the distribution channels.”
“I understand.” Luo Xiangxue began back-tracing the timeline, focusing on the hotel’s surveillance footage.
Meanwhile, Shang Qing arrived from Luzhou via private jet, cursing the entire way. “If I catch who did this, I’ll kill them.” Having finally managed to get into Bai Wan’s bed, being dragged out in the middle of the night to save someone made Shang Qing livid.
At the Hospital
Lou Qingshuang had just finished her skincare routine and was about to check her phone when Luo Xiangxue called.
“Miss Lou, the Chairman was hit with a pheromone catalyst at the banquet. Her gland status is very poor. Dr. Shang is on his way, but we need you at the hospital to assist with her treatment,” Luo Xiangxue said urgently.
“How is she? You must ensure no other Omega pheromones come into contact with her, or her glands will continue to collapse,” Lou Qingshuang said coldly, standing up immediately.
“An Omega lost control as we were leaving and clung to her,” Luo Xiangxue admitted guiltily.
“Then you have a prime suspect,” Lou Qingshuang remarked, her hands pausing as she dressed. The reaction speed and timing were too suspicious.
“The investigation has already begun,” Luo Xiangxue noted, surprised by Lou Qingshuang’s quick deduction. “A car is waiting at your door. Please, take care of the Chairman.”
“I will. See you soon.” Lou Qingshuang hung up, messaged Xiao He that the assistant would need to handle tomorrow’s shoot, and headed into the night.
Back in Luzhou, Liu Cheng looked at a message from an unknown number. A refined, shallow smile touched his face. “Dear cousin, please enjoy this gift.”
The Recovery Room
Liu Yu lay in a private suite, guarded by bodyguards inside and out. Her pheromones were completely out of control, violently attacking anyone who drew near. The medical staff had been forced to use restraints and sedatives to keep her stable in isolation.
When Lou Qingshuang arrived, she saw a vulnerable Liu Yu—pale, brows knit in pain, her wrists bound to the bed by restraint straps. Her dignity had been stripped away by the crisis.
“You can try releasing a small amount of pheromones to see if the patient can accept you as before,” the doctor said, masked and observant. “Once the glands collapse, they are hard to control. Her records show this stimulus has made her system highly rejective of outside scents. Currently, yours is likely the only one she can tolerate; others are poison to her right now. That’s why we haven’t used standard Omega soothing agents.”
Lou Qingshuang stared through the observation window at the red marks the cloth straps had left on Liu Yu’s wrists. After a silent moment, she asked, “Can I go in?”
“Yes. Press the bell if anything happens.”
As Lou Qingshuang entered, the bodyguard inside looked relieved, nodded, and stepped out.
The pheromones in the room seemed to cling to Lou Qingshuang like they were weeping, a silent cry of pain. Lou Qingshuang felt a sharp pang of heartache. She closed the door, drew the curtains over the observation window, and peeled off her own scent-blocking patch.
The cold, sharp scent of “Ice Field Rose” from Liu Yu’s side met her. Lou Qingshuang released her own pheromones—a matching rose scent that gently embraced the frozen one, soothing its violent edges.
She walked to the bedside and unfastened the restraints. Gently rubbing the reddened skin on Liu Yu’s wrists to check for injuries, she let out a small sigh of relief when she found none.
Sensing her presence, Liu Yu’s brow relaxed slightly. Her fingers gripped Lou Qingshuang’s hand with desperate strength, as if it were her only lifeline.
“You said you’d be back at the hotel early,” Lou Qingshuang whispered, brushing a stray hair from Liu Yu’s eyes. “Instead, you’re here. Shang Qing is almost here. Rest well; I’m staying with you.”
Lou Qingshuang leaned down and kissed her. Liu Yu’s eyes fluttered open. “Shuangshuang…”
“I’m here,” Lou Qingshuang whispered, pulling back slightly. “Are you thirsty?”
“A little… I want you to feed me,” Liu Yu murmured, her eyes blinking slowly.
“Wait a moment.” Lou Qingshuang poured a glass of warm water and offered it with a straw.
Liu Yu turned her head away. “Not like that.”
“Then how?” Lou Qingshuang smiled at the blatant sulking.
Liu Yu beckoned her closer. Her voice was husky as she whispered, “Feed me with your mouth.”
Lou Qingshuang’s eyes widened, a sudden heat rushing through her. Her gaze turned soft and watery. “This is a hospital,” she blushed, looking away to avoid Liu Yu’s increasingly bold eyes.
“They won’t come in. Just once, okay?” Liu Yu’s gaze was enticing, mixed with a hint of fragile, childish pleading. She was a beautiful trap, and she knew it. Her pheromones flirted and tangled with Lou Qingshuang’s. “I’ll only drink a little.”
Lou Qingshuang glanced at the closed door, her pulse racing. She couldn’t resist the combination of Liu Yu’s charm and her obvious vulnerability.
She took a sip of the warm water. Liu Yu watched the line of Lou Qingshuang’s elegant throat as she swallowed. As Lou Qingshuang leaned down, Liu Yu wrapped her arms around her back. Their lips met—one moist, one dry.
The warm water flowed between them. Liu Yu’s breath hitched as she swallowed, her eyes darkening into a deep abyss that seemed to swallow Lou Qingshuang whole.
It was more than just a sip. Liu Yu’s tongue pushed forward, greedily taking the remaining water and then some.
Too much! Lou Qingshuang thought, her face burning. She tried to push Liu Yu’s shoulder, but the Alpha held her tighter.
After the lingering kiss, Liu Yu nuzzled against Lou Qingshuang’s cheek. “Shuangshuang.”
Just then, voices drifted from the hallway. Lou Qingshuang caught her breath and gave Liu Yu a playful, reproachful look. “Shang Qing is likely here. Behave yourself.”
Liu Yu nodded obediently. Under the comfort of Lou Qingshuang’s pheromones, the throbbing pain in her gland had subsided, though it remained swollen and hot. Her clarity was returning.
“Let them in,” Liu Yu said, her eyes turning toward the window. She wanted the results of the investigation.
The Investigation
Luo Xiangxue and the security captain entered, visibly relieved to see Liu Yu conscious.
“Chairman, surveillance identifies Qiu Mi as a primary suspect. However, she is currently in the ER; her pheromones went into total shock because she had the highest concentration of the catalyst in her system. She is either the culprit or the target. Either way, she is central to this,” Luo Xiangxue reported.
“We are tracing the source,” the captain added. “This isn’t a standard catalyst; it’s a high-level contraband. The police are involved in the drug trace.”
“The timing fits,” Luo Xiangxue continued. “She was near you right when it would have taken effect. Even if she wasn’t there long, she was close.”
Liu Yu recalled a cloyingly sweet scent—so sweet it was nauseating—right as Qiu Mi had passed her.
“Was there any residue on her hands? Or on anyone else?” Liu Yu asked coldly.
“No,” Luo Xiangxue shook her head. “We checked everyone—guests and staff. No residue, no discarded packaging in the bins. We are focusing on the purchase channels now.”
Liu Yu closed her eyes, her fingers tapping on the reports. She replayed every moment of the banquet in her mind, visualizing every person who had crossed her path when that sweet scent appeared.
She opened her eyes, her expression terrifyingly calm. “Start with Qiu Mi. If necessary… you know what to do. Also, look into the ‘pretty boy’ who was hanging around her.”
Luo Xiangxue nodded and left.
Liu Yu then called Zhu Yan. “The person Luo Xiangxue saw at Madame Elisa’s banquet—any progress?”
“Chairman, I’ve vetted the guest list. Most are clean. However, there are two individuals who haven’t shown their faces publicly. They are sons of high-ranking executives from the Phils Group, sent to establish a subsidiary in Luzhou,” Zhu Yan reported.
“Find out who they’ve been in contact with. Start from their social circles,” Liu Yu ordered, giving Zhu Yan full authority.
Sitting to the side, Lou Qingshuang watched as Liu Yu dismantled the situation with ruthless efficiency. It was a side of Liu Yu that was cold and uncompromising—willing to act on mere suspicion. While Lou Qingshuang agreed that Qiu Mi was suspicious, she didn’t have the hardened heart required to manipulate and coerce someone the way Liu Yu did.
As the adrenaline faded, Liu Yu rubbed her temples. The gland at the back of her neck began to throb again, and her pheromones turned restless, trying to cocoon Lou Qingshuang.
“Is Shang Qing here yet?” she groaned in pain.
“I’m here,” Shang Qing panted, entering the room. “You know, you should really visit a temple or a shrine. You’ve been targeted twice in a month, and you still haven’t caught the rat.”
“They came prepared,” Liu Yu replied weakly. “If they were easy to catch, they wouldn’t be ‘Liu family’ material.”
