- Chapter 54 - Liu Yu’s Heart is a Tangled Mess of Emotions
Lou Qingshuang patted Bai Wan’s back, understanding her difficulties. Bai Wan closed her eyes and rubbed her head against Lou Qingshuang’s shoulder, returning to full health a minute later. “Let’s work hard and eventually take down that old fogey!”
“Alright,” Lou Qingshuang nodded with a smile.
When Lou Qingshuang returned to the laboratory, only three people were working today; two other lab technicians had gone to the factory for random inspections.
As Lou Qingshuang was changing into her white lab coat, Liu Yu sent a photo. Her desk was piled high with documents that had accumulated during her heat period.
【So many.】 Liu Yu followed up with a message.
【Keep it up.】 Lou Qingshuang also casually snapped a photo of the laboratory work log for Liu Yu; there were many pending matters there as well.
【See you after work.】
【Okay.】
Lou Qingshuang looked at Liu Yu’s Feixin profile picture—it was the little dog drawn on the wall. She watched it for a while before putting her phone away and immersing herself in the backlog of work.
“President Lou, there are several failed reports from today’s factory inspection.” Xiao He brought out a report and handed it to Lou Qingshuang.
Lou Qingshuang took the report and flipped through it, her brows gradually furrowing. The report showed that the product failures occurred consecutively at the same workstation. “Has this problem occurred in previous inspections?”
Xiao He looked at the report. “Not before. It only happened today. Li Kan and Qin Min have gone to the factory to investigate.”
Wanshuang maintained product quality at all times, striving to minimize any issues. This rigorous attitude was recognized by consumers.
“Good. Be sure to keep a close eye on the subsequent production status. Let me know if there are any problems.” Lou Qingshuang put down the report and looked at Xiao He.
Xiao He nodded and began his own work. Lou Qingshuang continued to check the consecutive reports and experimental logs from the past few days.
While flipping through the logs, she unintentionally saw the bottle of perfume she had modeled after Liu Yu’s scent.
Lou Qingshuang looked at the brown perfume, reached out to pick it up, and held it beneath her nose, as if she could smell Liu Yu’s aura.
She hadn’t decided yet whether to promote this perfume as a new product.
Lou Qingshuang tightened her grip on the cold bottle. She didn’t want Liu Yu’s scent to be smelled by so many people, which was why she had inexplicably set the perfume aside at the time.
Lou Qingshuang hadn’t expected her and Liu Yu to make progress so quickly. She looked down at the perfume in her hand and placed it in the pocket of her white lab coat. Perhaps Liu Yu would provide her with the answer.
With a faint smile on her face, Lou Qingshuang continued her work. Liu Yu didn’t know yet that Lou Qingshuang was going to give her a little surprise.
What could be more heart-stirring than a lover remembering your scent before they even fell in love with you?
At 5:30 PM, Liu Yu’s black Bentley stopped punctually outside Lou Qingshuang’s company. Her car parked quietly in a space without attracting anyone’s attention.
Lou Qingshuang was currently in a meeting with Bai Wan. “I was thinking we could change our advertising method. We could try investing in a TV drama and placing advertisements in the middle of the episodes,” Qin Nan suggested to the two.
“There’s a drama about to air that hasn’t accepted any interstitial ads yet. I’ve looked at the data; it has a high chance of becoming a hit.” Qin Nan brought up the data for everyone to see.
Lou Qingshuang looked at the data analysis for various dramas, including the actors’ private lives and their probability of a “scandalous collapse.”
“This period drama is being broadcast while still filming. It has just started airing. If we invest now, we can still negotiate the price. Currently, most dramas favor inserting two fifteen-second ads in the middle of the show. Most importantly, the director is short on investors; we can gain high leverage if we invest now.” Qin Nan explained her vision.
“I think it’s feasible.” After reading the data analysis and proposal, Lou Qingshuang looked at Bai Wan.
“Since it’s feasible, you’ll need to take the products and staff to the filming location to oversee the shoot.” Bai Wan closed the folder and smiled.
“I’m going on field duty?” Lou Qingshuang was stunned for a moment, looking at Qin Nan and Bai Wan.
The two nodded in unison. “People from the marketing department will accompany you. This time, you’re mainly going to hold down the fort. President Bai and I have been busy promoting products and contacting out-of-town distributors lately; we can’t get away.” Qin Nan looked at Lou Qingshuang and explained.
“This kind of commercial business must be monitored. It will be finished quickly.” Bai Wan pulled Lou Qingshuang’s hand. “I’ll have to trouble Shuangshuang to keep an eye on it.”
Lou Qingshuang glanced at the smiling Qin Nan and then at Bai Wan, who was holding her hand. “You two are doing this on purpose, aren’t you?”
Bai Wan and Qin Nan laughed at the same time. “We really are busy lately. Only you in the lab can carve out a little time. Plus, you know the products best and know how to film them to get the best results.”
Lou Qingshuang massaged her forehead. She hadn’t expected so much work on her first day back. “Fine.”
As Liu Yu sat in the car with her eyes closed resting, Lou Qingshuang pulled open the car door. Liu Yu opened her eyes to see the person standing backlit by the door, and a smile instantly appeared on her face.
“Have you been waiting long?” Lou Qingshuang sat in the car and closed the door, looking at the exhausted Liu Yu. “Didn’t you take a nap at noon?”
“There were a lot of things today. I handled them all at once so I wouldn’t have to work overtime tonight and could eat with you.” Liu Yu had her hair in a bun today, and her gold-rimmed glasses made her look aloof and noble. Only when facing Lou Qingshuang did the coldness and authority in her eyes dissipate.
“Do you want to lean on me?” Lou Qingshuang proactively tilted her head to let Liu Yu lean.
The corners of Liu Yu’s lips curled up, and her eyes were full of smiles. “Naturally.”
Liu Yu was wearing a black suit with a white shirt and a platinum necklace—abstinent, serious, and full of the pressure of a superior.
Lou Qingshuang actually liked Liu Yu dressing like this; she had the charm of a mature female Alpha.
Liu Yu lowered her head and leaned on Lou Qingshuang’s shoulder. Lou Qingshuang reached out and took off her gold-rimmed glasses. Beneath the thin lenses were those soulful eyes, deep and cool.
Looking at Liu Yu’s open eyes, Lou Qingshuang reached out and covered them, softening her voice. “Close your eyes and rest.”
Liu Yu hooked the corner of her mouth and leaned on Lou Qingshuang’s shoulder to rest slowly. She had compressed and processed five days’ worth of work in eight hours—scary efficiency.
Liu Yu fell asleep quickly on Lou Qingshuang’s shoulder. Lou Qingshuang’s head rested lightly on top of Liu Yu’s. Liu Yu’s scent surrounded her—the aroma of wood burning after a snowfall, wrapped in the fragrance of roses.
This scent was very special.
Lou Qingshuang gripped the perfume bottle in her handbag. The cold touch made her subconsciously turn her head to look at Liu Yu.
Liu Yu was sleeping peacefully on Lou Qingshuang’s shoulder, having fallen asleep completely without any defensiveness.
When the car arrived at Lou Qingshuang’s neighborhood, Liu Yu still hadn’t woken up. The driver opened the partition and looked at Lou Qingshuang, inquiring with his eyes about the next arrangement.
“Let her sleep for another ten minutes,” Lou Qingshuang said softly.
The driver nodded and pressed the button again to leave a quiet space for the two.
Lou Qingshuang sat with Liu Yu for fifteen minutes before waking her. “Wake up, or you won’t be able to sleep tonight.”
Liu Yu slowly opened her eyes. After a second of dazedness, she regained her logic and looked at Lou Qingshuang tenderly. “Is your shoulder numb?”
“A little.” Lou Qingshuang sat in the car without moving her shoulder. The two rested in the car for five minutes before opening the door to get out.
The old neighborhood was quiet and full of greenery. The two held hands as they walked toward Lou Qingshuang’s building.
As soon as they entered, they saw many people waiting for the elevator. Liu Yu’s footsteps paused; she wasn’t used to being in such crowds.
Others also saw Lou Qingshuang and Liu Yu. The aura and majesty on Liu Yu made many people take a step back. When her eyes looked toward others, everyone subconsciously turned their eyes away, not daring to meet her gaze.
Lou Qingshuang gripped Liu Yu’s hand tightly, only then realizing that this place was out of place for Liu Yu. At the Mingya neighborhood, the elevators were never this crowded, with only two households per floor. At Liu Yu’s hotel, she had a private elevator. Being here felt inexplicably difficult for Liu Yu.
When the elevator arrived, Liu Yu proactively held Lou Qingshuang’s hand and entered together.
Leaving the four bodyguards and the secretary staring at each other, they could only watch the elevator full of people close its doors.
Standing in the elevator, Liu Yu was a head taller than many people. She could clearly see everyone’s faces. The elevator smelled of food, sweat, and even the oily stench of scalps.
Lou Qingshuang looked up at Liu Yu, whose expression hadn’t changed. It was as if she had pulled someone who lived in the heavens down from the clouds.
The person who came down from the clouds was now walking through the mundane world with her.
Ding! The elevator doors opened, and Liu Yu pulled Lou Qingshuang out of the elevator.
“Let’s move back to Mingya tomorrow,” Lou Qingshuang suddenly said.
Liu Yu turned to look at Lou Qingshuang. Her hand unconsciously squeezed Lou Qingshuang’s fingers, and her eyelashes trembled as she remembered the things that had happened at Mingya. She didn’t want Lou Qingshuang to return to that unhappy place.
“It’s much more convenient there, isn’t it?” Lou Qingshuang stood in front of Liu Yu and looked at her.
“Do you mind?” Liu Yu reached out and gently brushed Lou Qingshuang’s hair, her eyes never leaving Lou Qingshuang’s for a second.
“That depends on your performance.” Lou Qingshuang winked and turned to walk away.
“Let’s just stay here. I like it here,” Liu Yu chased after her.
Lou Qingshuang opened the door and walked in. Liu Yu followed behind her. As soon as they entered, Liu Yu hugged her from behind. “I’m sorry.”
Lou Qingshuang just patted her hand. “Go wash your hands first and get ready for dinner.”
Both of them smelled the aroma of food. The chef had finished the meal and left before they returned.
Liu Yu turned her head and kissed Lou Qingshuang’s cheek. “Let’s wash together.”
“Okay.”
“Look, what is this?” Lou Qingshuang took out the perfume she had kept in her bag all day and put it in Liu Yu’s hand.
Liu Yu took the square glass bottle and looked at it. “Is this perfume?” She pressed it lightly, and a familiar scent drifted into the air.
Liu Yu turned her head to look at Lou Qingshuang. “My scent?”
Lou Qingshuang gave a casual “mm.” “I originally planned to give it to you as a gift. Are you satisfied?”
Liu Yu held the perfume, feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the favor. “Very satisfied.”
The scent was exactly the same as the one on Liu Yu. That woody scent after burning, amidst the cold ice and snow, gave a sense of coziness like living in a wooden cabin in the snow. With the addition of the rose fragrance, it appeared even more romantic and moving.
Holding the perfume, Liu Yu suddenly looked at Lou Qingshuang. “When did you make this?”
“I started making it a long time ago.” Lou Qingshuang dried her hands and prepared to go out.
Liu Yu reached out to pull her, her gaze serious. “How long ago?”
Lou Qingshuang looked into Liu Yu’s pupils. She was very satisfied with Liu Yu’s reaction. She leaned into Liu Yu’s ear. “I was already making it the day after that rainy night.”
Liu Yu’s heart trembled. At that time, those things hadn’t happened between them yet.
Even then, Lou Qingshuang hadn’t given her much of a kind face.
Liu Yu gripped the perfume, her heart a tangled mess of emotions. What was Lou Qingshuang thinking when she developed this perfume?
