- Chapter 44 - Trouble at the Bar
Liu Yu raised her hand to stroke Lou Qingshuang’s hair, which still held the lingering warmth of the shower. Lou Qingshuang sat on the sofa and tilted her head back to look at her, making no move to reject Liu Yu’s gentle touch.
The sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating them both. One stood with her shirt in disarray, clinging to her body; the other wore a bathrobe still marked with damp patches. They gazed at each other in the sunlight, and though they had just shared the most intimate of acts, the affection visible in their eyes was pitifully sparse.
Suppressing the shifting emotions in her heart, Liu Yu decided to slow down her pace. At the very least, she wanted Lou Qingshuang to be able to accept her occasional proximity.
At that moment, Lou Qingshuang’s stomach let out a loud growl.
Liu Yu’s gaze instinctively dropped to Lou Qingshuang’s abdomen. Somewhat embarrassed, Lou Qingshuang covered her stomach and said softly, “I didn’t eat breakfast.”
The atmosphere between them was broken by the sound of hunger.
“I’ll make something for you,” Liu Yu said after a moment’s thought. She recalled people cooking in movies, and it didn’t seem particularly difficult.
“Do you know how?” Lou Qingshuang looked at her with great skepticism.
“I do,” Liu Yu said decisively. She was a fast learner; she figured cooking wouldn’t defeat her.
Lou Qingshuang watched as Liu Yu walked into the kitchen and began inspecting it with an air of professional curiosity.
As Liu Yu surveyed the contents of the kitchen, she felt it looked quite different from the ones in the movies. She first picked up a fruit knife to examine it. It looked sharp, so she set it on the counter.
She then rummaged through the fridge, finding only eggs, noodles, and vegetables—just those three items. Liu Yu picked up an egg and decided to make noodles with egg.
She recalled a scene from a movie where a female Alpha fried an egg into the shape of a heart. She took down a frying pan and placed it on the high-tech smart gas stove she hadn’t seen before.
“Do you require pan-frying or stir-frying?” the smart stove automatically inquired.
“Yes,” Liu Yu’s eyes lit up.
Five minutes later, Lou Qingshuang suddenly smelled something scorched. It was the distinct scent of something being burnt to a crisp.
Boom!
Flames suddenly erupted from the pan. Liu Yu instinctively took several steps back.
“What happened?” Lou Qingshuang hurried over. The sight that greeted her was Liu Yu holding a flaming pan, looking completely at a loss.
“How did it catch fire?” Lou Qingshuang stood at the kitchen door, her eyes wide with shock.
“Ah, I don’t know! It just started burning on its own!” Liu Yu grabbed the lid and slammed it onto the pan, extinguishing the flames.
The black smoke in the kitchen began to dissipate, leaving behind a heavy burnt smell. Lou Qingshuang quickly turned on the range hood and opened the windows to let the smoke out.
Lou Qingshuang looked at the counter—shattered eggshells and liquid everywhere, vegetables hacked into several unwashed segments, and a smoldering pan. She posed a soul-piercing question: “Liu Yu, have you ever set foot in a kitchen before?”
Liu Yu met her serious gaze. There was no accusation in those eyes, only genuine curiosity. She glanced around at the carnage on the counter, her eyes darting away. “I’ve seen it in movies. It didn’t look that hard.”
Lou Qingshuang pressed a hand to her forehead, unable to stop herself from chuckling. “You watched a movie and decided you knew how to cook?”
“I thought if I tried, I might get it.” Liu Yu tucked a strand of long hair behind her ear, her eyelashes fluttering.
Seeing this rare display of vulnerability, Lou Qingshuang let out a light laugh. Just as she was about to speak, a knock came from the front door.
“Owner, are you home? We’re from property management. we received a fire alarm and came to check.” A staff member stood outside, fire extinguisher in hand.
This time, Lou Qingshuang truly couldn’t hold it back. She covered her mouth and laughed until she was breathless. “Hahahaha!”
The Chairman of the Liu Corporation had tried to cook for the first time in her life and managed to summon property management. Liu Yu felt a flicker of embarrassment, but she maintained her composure. It was no big deal.
Half an hour later, the person who had intended to cook for Lou Qingshuang ended up eating a meal prepared by Lou Qingshuang.
“I only know how to make noodles. Give them a try.” Lou Qingshuang brought over two bowls of noodles, topped with a fried egg and a few stalks of green vegetables.
“Smells quite good.” Liu Yu looked at the well-presented bowl. She waited for Lou Qingshuang to sit down before picking up her chopsticks. She took a bite of the noodles, seasoned simply with light soy sauce; the flavor was basic but not bad.
Lou Qingshuang also took a bite. “I’ll have to trouble you to stay here with me today.”
“After one more time, my Pseudo-Heat Syndrome should disappear. I won’t have to keep bothering you then,” Lou Qingshuang said politely.
Liu Yu froze. She set her chopsticks across her bowl. “We are helping each other. You don’t need to be so formal. My own heat cycle is quite long; if you stay this polite, it will be very uncomfortable.”
Lou Qingshuang’s hand stalled. She looked up and said seriously, “Liu Yu, we only have a contractual relationship. There is no need for extra emotional entanglement, nor is there a need to be ‘good’ to one another. We just need to follow the steps to treat your illness.”
How familiar those words sounded.
I don’t need feelings; I need your young body.
Liu Yu thought back to their conversation that night. She lowered her head, unsure of how to face Lou Qingshuang.
Lou Qingshuang slowly ate her noodles, and Liu Yu followed suit, though neither finished their bowl.
Liu Yu stayed with Lou Qingshuang all day. Before leaving, she left another temporary mark. Only then did she depart.
Walking through the residential complex, Liu Yu pondered Lou Qingshuang’s thoughts. As she was leaving, someone snapped a photo of her. Every photo related to Lou Qingshuang was being captured.
Liu Yu was entirely unaware. The photographer was discreet and left immediately after taking the shot.
Liu Yu drove back to the family estate rather than returning to the house across from Lou Qingshuang’s.
“The Chairman is back.” Aunt He walked to Liu Yu’s side to report on the affairs of the estate.
“We have inspected the grounds recently; no strangers have visited.” The old housekeeper, Aunt He, handed the security reports to Liu Yu.
“Remind the staff not to speak with strangers outside,” Liu Yu warned.
“Rest assured, Chairman. If such a person exists, we will hold them accountable. After all, everyone working here has signed a non-disclosure agreement,” Aunt He said solemnly.
Liu Yu thought of what Luo Xiangxue had mentioned at the banquet—a person from the overseas branch of the Liu family. There had been no news for a while. Liu Yu never overlooked a suspicious lead, so she had people investigating quietly.
“Our contacts abroad say the overseas branch hasn’t made any moves to return. We still cannot let our guard down, Chairman,” Aunt He added.
“Of course not. If the opportunity arises, that branch must be destroyed,” Liu Yu said, her eyes darkening as she stared at a large family portrait in the study.
There were thirty-seven members of the Liu family in that photo. She had already dealt with half of them.
Aunt He stood by silently. She knew the knot in Liu Yu’s heart; after all, she had been there when the Liu family underwent those earth-shattering changes years ago.
It was then that Liu Yu’s personality shifted—from a bright, gentle person to the ruthless, relentless woman she was today. The outside world spoke of how cruel Liu Yu was, but no one knew she was someone who had crawled back from the brink of death.
Liu Yu began keeping a close eye on the group, while simultaneously arranging for people to secretly protect Lou Qingshuang. Although their interactions weren’t frequent, they were becoming too intimate—she had even rested at the old estate. Liu Yu feared someone might target her.
“Hey, busy woman, come out for a drink. I’m about to get dumped,” Shang Qing called Liu Yu to complain.
“Is that so?” Liu Yu was busy signing her last document.
“Hurry up. I’m at the Chaoyin Bar,” Shang Qing shouted.
“Fine,” Liu Yu replied.
Liu Yu checked the time; it was already past 10:00 PM. She changed into a red dress, let her hair down, applied red lipstick, and stepped out in high heels. Today, Liu Yu looked stunning and fierce, her aura commanding the room.
Liu Yu took the VIP entrance and reached the private room Shang Qing had booked.
“Ah! You heartless woman! You retreat as soon as love is mentioned—”
Liu Yu was nearly blasted back by Shang Qing’s high notes the moment she opened the door. She watched Shang Qing standing on the sofa, howling at the top of her lungs. It seemed she really was about to be dumped.
Liu Yu waited outside until Shang Qing finished the entire song before pushing the door open.
“Wah! Liu Yu, come comfort me! I need comfort!” Shang Qing cried out, lunging toward her.
Liu Yu instinctively sidestepped the charging Shang Qing. “Stop it. Look at you, your makeup is ruined.”
“You don’t love me either! Why is my life so bitter? I got slept with and now I’m getting dumped!” Shang Qing grabbed a tissue and feigned a sob.
“Tell me what happened.” Liu Yu picked a sofa to sit on and poured herself a drink.
“I met a hot little Omega before. She was beautiful,” Shang Qing said sheepishly.
“And you were blinded by lust?” Liu Yu took a sip of whiskey.
“How is that possible? This time I was the one who got slept with! That little Omega was having a hard time with her heat and asked me to help her through it a few times. I wanted to talk about feelings, and she ran away!” Shang Qing slumped onto the table in despair.
“Maybe your reputation as a social butterfly got out and scared her off?” Among her friends, Shang Qing was the most prolific dater. She could date several girlfriends in a year, or none at all.
“Impossible. I haven’t dated anyone this year, and my past breakups were all amicable. No one would ruin my name,” Shang Qing insisted.
Liu Yu gave her a look of disbelief. “Maybe you should go back and think about what you just said.”
“Ugh, but it’s really over. I have a feeling, though—this person is definitely the love of my life,” Shang Qing said seriously.
Liu Yu arched an eyebrow, looking her up and down. “That’s the first time you’ve ever said that.”
“What about you? How are things with that Omega?” Shang Qing lay flat on the table, looking at Liu Yu expectantly, hoping for some bad news to make herself feel better.
Thinking of Lou Qingshuang, Liu Yu’s eyes dimmed slightly. “I’ve been messaging her frequently. She replies, but she never initiates conversation or keeps the topic going.”
“At least she replies. That’s not bad,” Shang Qing said, sitting up to pat Liu Yu’s shoulder. “I’m telling you, that contract you signed is just a means to get close to her. Don’t take it too seriously. Hic.” Shang Qing took a large gulp of alcohol.
“You two got here so fast and started drinking already?” The newcomer was their good friend, Su Hua. She wore elegant, simple clothes that seemed out of place in the bar.
“Su Hua, you’re late again,” Shang Qing said.
“Well, I have a family to look after. Being able to come out at all shows how much I treasure this friendship, okay?” Su Hua nodded to Liu Yu and sat down.
“Come on, let’s analyze your eighteenth relationship,” Su Hua sat on the other side of the sofa.
The three of them had grown up together. During Liu Yu’s most difficult times, it was Su Hua who had taken her in. Liu Yu and Su Hua shared a knowing smile.
“I haven’t had that many! Only three total. I really like this Omega and want to settle down, but she says she just wants freedom right now,” Shang Qing groaned, clutching her drink.
“Then give her freedom. Wouldn’t it be fine to be free together with her?” Su Hua took a light sip.
“I said, I want you to have a drink with me!”
Bang!
The door to their private room was slammed open. Liu Yu looked up and saw Lou Qingshuang. She stood up immediately.
“Let go.” Lou Qingshuang’s face was cold as she gripped a wine bottle, looking ready to smash it against the Alpha who was grabbing her.
“There’s no one else here,” a drunken male Alpha sneered.
“Wan Sian, do you need me to call your father?” Liu Yu’s voice was icy as she grabbed the hand holding Lou Qingshuang and wrenched it backward. A piercing scream immediately rang out. “Arrgh!!”
Lou Qingshuang stared at Liu Yu. In her red dress and sharp, cold makeup, this was a side of her she had never seen—cool, fierce, and striking. Lou Qingshuang stood dazed, looking at Liu Yu’s back. The dark red dress swayed like a flickering rose.
But this rose was incredibly thorny. Her strikes were heavy and ruthless.
Liu Yu’s eyes were filled with hostility as she kicked the man’s shin. “Ah! It hurts!!” The bloated male Alpha thudded to his knees.
“Do you know who my father is?!” The man cried, snot and tears streaming down his face, yet he still shouted arrogantly. “My father is the CEO of Jiaxing Company! Let me go! It hurts!”
Liu Yu twisted his arm further, forcing him to tilt his body as he yelled.
The manager and security of Chaoyin Bar quickly rushed over. They were also frustrated; the young master of Jiaxing caused trouble every few days. This time, he had kicked a steel plate.
Liu Yu let go of him. Wan Sian immediately clutched his arm and hid behind the manager, snarling, “Just you wait, I’m going to find my father!”
Liu Yu stepped into the light. Once he recognized who she was, Wan Sian’s face turned pale.
“Liu… President Liu… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it.” He stammered, trembling as he apologized.
Liu Yu looked at Lou Qingshuang, who shook her head; she didn’t want his apology.
“Get out. If I see you bullying anyone again, I won’t hesitate to break your legs before sending you home,” Liu Yu said in a low, heavy voice.
Su Hua and Shang Qing watched the sharp-eyed Liu Yu and exchanged looks. How long had it been since they had seen Liu Yu truly angry?
Under the lights, Liu Yu looked stern and beautiful. She turned to Lou Qingshuang. “Are you alright?” Her expression softened instantly.
Lou Qingshuang nearly lost her focus looking at her. She had been drawn to this very transformation before—back when she had just broken up and felt a flicker of attraction. When a superior bows their head only for you, who wouldn’t feel a spark of emotion?
This time, Lou Qingshuang quickly suppressed the feeling. “I’m fine. Thank you.”
“I’ll take you back,” Liu Yu offered.
Lou Qingshuang looked at Liu Yu’s face, which was partially obscured by shadows. She declined. “Thanks, but my friends are here. I don’t plan on leaving yet.”
“Alright.” Liu Yu nodded and watched Lou Qingshuang walk into the opposite private room.
She stood at the doorway for a moment before turning around, only to find Su Hua and Shang Qing looking at her with meaningful, eerie smiles.
The three ignored Wan Sian and the manager, returning to their room.
“One time I don’t bring bodyguards and this happens,” Su Hua complained. At the same time, she called her security to come up and stand guard, specifically telling them to watch the room across the hall.
Liu Yu raised her glass of whiskey toward Su Hua. “Thanks.”
Su Hua hung up the phone with a mischievous grin. “So, tell us about that beautiful Omega. I want to hear it. Judging by how panicked you were just now, I doubt you’d be that worried if the Liu Corporation went bankrupt.”
“I know, I know! That’s the one who broke Liu Yu’s heart!” Shang Qing blurted out.
“When did this happen? Liu Yu, you’re excluding me!” Su Hua said indignantly.
“It was last winter. It’s been nearly half a year now,” Liu Yu said.
