- Chapter 43 - Another Temporary Marking
Liu Yu stood on the neighboring building, observing the drones in the sky against the night breeze. This time, she had personally handled the drone firework display, participating in everything from the design of the firework transformations to the execution itself.
The wind atop the building whipped Liu Yu’s hair around. Dressed in a simple white shirt and high heels, she stood on the roof with her sleeves rolled up, revealing red marks on her arms where the fireworks had singed her.
She gazed at the sky, hoping that she would like it.
This firework display lasted for an hour and attracted countless people. Everyone was saying it was the most grand and romantic confession of love. Because the finale of the show featured roses falling alongside heavy snow—red and white interlacing—many people instinctively reached out their hands to catch them, only to grasp at nothing.
“If someone confessed to me like this, I would definitely say yes,” Bai Wan said, recording the firework show and sending it to a certain clingy, teary-eyed Alpha.
Lou Qingshuang stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, watching the drones descend like snowflakes. They landed near her window, and a trace of a smile touched the corners of her mouth.
“Wow!” “Look, rose petals are falling!” “Heavens, they’re actually falling right here.”
Upon close contact, the drones quietly extinguished their lights, vanishing into the darkness like melting snow. This stroke of romantic design brought the climax to today’s firework performance.
Lou Qingshuang watched the petals and snowflakes flutter down below until they finally disappeared, leaving the sky dark once more.
Bai Wan was jumping with excitement. “Shuangshuang, did you see that? This is truly the best birthday gift!”
Lou Qingshuang remained silent, though a faint smile lingered in her eyes. This birthday gift was indeed very heavy. Considering the drone choreography and the short time it took to materialize, she couldn’t imagine how much money and energy had been spent.
Watching the sky fade to black, Lou Qingshuang withdrew her smile, turned around, and sat in her chair, taking a sip of red wine.
“Shuangshuang, why do you seem unhappy?” Bai Wan put away her phone, her excitement fading as she looked at Lou Qingshuang with concern.
“Liu Yu made this firework show,” Lou Qingshuang said, her eyes slightly hazy as she swirled the wine in her glass.
“Ah?” Bai Wan was shocked. “Is she pursuing you?” she asked curiously.
“Who knows? Perhaps she’s just bored to death.” Lou Qingshuang didn’t believe for a second that Liu Yu had a heart.
She finished the red wine in her glass in one gulp, feeling somewhat frustrated. Bai Wan didn’t know what to say; she clutched her phone and began typing, complaining about Liu Yu’s flamboyant tactics, though she omitted names and didn’t specifically mention the firework show.
Don’t you think this kind of person is a bit sick!
Bai Wan vented mercilessly. Are there really so many people like that nowadays? the other side replied in shock.
“Let’s go, the crowd has dispersed,” Lou Qingshuang picked up her phone and handbag, preparing to leave. Bai Wan quickly turned off her phone and followed Lou Qingshuang into the elevator.
On the way down, Lou Qingshuang spotted a familiar silhouette in the crowd: Liu Yu. She averted her gaze and got into the car with Bai Wan to head home.
This grand, romantic firework show was talked about for days and remained a trending topic online. People constantly speculated whether some wealthy tycoon was confessing to their pursuit. To all of this, Lou Qingshuang turned a deaf ear.
After her birthday passed, she returned to her usual routine of commuting between two points. It wasn’t until her Pheromone Gland Pseudo-Heat Syndrome flared up that Lou Qingshuang realized Liu Yu hadn’t appeared much during this time.
She stood in her room, looking at her face in the mirror—flushed as if she were drunk—and her eyes. As an S-class Omega, her pheromones burst forth in such excess that even the neutralizer couldn’t purify them all at once.
Wearing a white camisole nightgown, Lou Qingshuang leaned against the bathroom sink. She took out her phone and found Liu Yu’s number.
After one ring, it was immediately answered. “Lou Qingshuang, what’s wrong?” the familiar low voice sounded.
Lou Qingshuang tilted her head back and let out a soft gasp, leaning weakly against the sink. “My pseudo-heat is here again. Come over.”
After Lou Qingshuang gave the address, Liu Yu couldn’t even be bothered to continue her meeting. “I have something to attend to; Zhu Yan will take over the meeting for me.”
Under the watchful eyes of everyone present, she left.
Liu Yu drove quickly through the traffic. This was the first time in a long while that Lou Qingshuang had actively called her. Even if it was just to act as a human pheromone injection, she was excited. Liu Yu thought to herself that this counted as progress.
She arrived at the old residential area, but the elderly security guard at the gate almost didn’t let her in.
“No, you are an outsider. We have regulations here; you must register and verify with the homeowner before entering.” The guard refused to open the garage gate for Liu Yu or let her in on foot.
Liu Yu, who usually had everything her way and whom no one dared to block, was stopped today by a security guard.
Liu Yu pressed her hand to her forehead. “Can’t you make an exception? I can register.”
“No, many young Omegas live here. Company policy dictates that outsiders must have the homeowner speak for them to enter.” The guard righteously rejected Liu Yu’s request. He looked at this Alpha dressed in expensive clothes and had no intention of letting her in.
Liu Yu had no choice but to take out her phone. “Lou Qingshuang, the security guard at the gate won’t let me in.”
“Give the phone to him,” Lou Qingshuang said weakly over the phone, suppressing her heavy breathing.
Liu Yu handed the phone to the guard. He listened to Lou Qingshuang, glanced Liu Yu up and down, and said, “Alright, I’ll let her in now.”
“Your girlfriend said she’s sick; remember to take her to the hospital early,” the guard said as he opened the gate.
Liu Yu had intended to run in, but hearing the guard’s words, she was surprised. Was that how Lou Qingshuang introduced her to outsiders?
Liu Yu followed the address, jogging through the complex in her high heels. A capable and exquisite female Alpha in a shirt and suit pants jogging through the neighborhood caught many people’s attention—mostly because she was very beautiful.
Liu Yu rushed to Lou Qingshuang’s home. Pheromone disorder could be a minor or major issue; it could easily lead to fainting, and in severe cases, death.
With a ding, the elevator doors opened. Liu Yu knocked on the door, and it opened a moment later.
A tidal wave of pheromones rushed toward Liu Yu. Sensing Liu Yu’s arrival, Lou Qingshuang’s body went limp, and she fell backward. Liu Yu stepped forward to catch her. Upon contact, she found Lou Qingshuang soaked in sweat, her face flushed with distress.
She closed the door, leaned down, and carried Lou Qingshuang into the living room. The layout of this house was very cozy, filled with the atmosphere of a home. However, there were signs that only one person lived here. The small apartment had a fabric sofa and several pots of flowers in full bloom on the balcony.
Liu Yu held Lou Qingshuang in her arms. Lou Qingshuang’s vision was dizzy; she moved restlessly in Liu Yu’s embrace, seeking out Liu Yu’s pheromones.
Liu Yu pinned Lou Qingshuang against her chest with one hand. Enduring the pheromones that were striking at her own sanity, she brushed aside Lou Qingshuang’s hair. Suddenly, a hand reached around her neck and ripped off her pheromone blocker.
Instantly, Liu Yu’s body reacted. Her pheromone glands swelled rapidly, releasing a powerful and oppressive scent of cold rose, suppressing Lou Qingshuang’s pheromones within her own body.
Fine beads of sweat also appeared on Liu Yu’s forehead. She lowered her head to kiss the restless Lou Qingshuang, locking her in her arms. The white strap of the camisole slipped down, revealing a pure white shoulder.
Liu Yu used kisses to soothe Lou Qingshuang while searching for her pheromone gland. The swollen gland on the back of her neck was exuding a rose fragrance that begged for intimacy.
Liu Yu opened her eyes and looked at the intoxicated, yearning Lou Qingshuang, slowly pulling away from her red lips. She had looked into it and knew that many people were unwilling to be driven by pheromones to find a partner. Therefore, they usually resisted intimacy, unwilling to be coerced by pheromones.
Three months ago, when Lou Qingshuang heard her say those things, she must have been very sad. She had clearly intended to try and date her. But at that time, Liu Yu’s subconscious reaction was to escape and reject proximity.
She had feelings for Lou Qingshuang, which was why she had accompanied her through her growth. Otherwise, she could have pressured the Bai family long ago, and no one would have been able to help Lou Qingshuang. If Liu Yu truly wanted her, Lou Qingshuang wouldn’t be able to run.
But seeing Lou Qingshuang’s devotion to Shen Qiao, just like her own to her mother, Liu Yu had halted her gloomy thoughts. She thought that maybe she could let Lou Qingshuang go.
But now, she didn’t want to let go anymore. She truly was a contradictory person. Perhaps Shang Qing was right; she could try to let go of the past.
Liu Yu lowered her head and bit into the back of Lou Qingshuang’s neck. Her marking fangs instantly pierced the pheromone gland, and the scent of cold roses flooded into it.
Lou Qingshuang’s restless heat was extinguished by Liu Yu’s pheromones. Her expression gradually calmed, and she quietly and obediently held Liu Yu’s neck, enjoying the temporary marking.
This temporary marking lasted for five minutes before Lou Qingshuang’s sanity gradually returned. Upon recovering, she realized she was nestled in Liu Yu’s arms. She reached up to wipe away her sweat, released her grip on Liu Yu’s neck, and looked at her with exhausted eyes. “Thank you.”
“Do you feel better? I’ll take you to take a hot shower; you might need another temporary marking in a bit.” Liu Yu’s white shirt was completely wrinkled. She carried Lou Qingshuang to the bathroom, carefully set her down, and turned on the hot water. “I’ll stand at the door. Call me if you need anything,” Liu Yu said, turning her back.
“Thanks,” Lou Qingshuang’s voice was weary and hoarse.
Liu Yu’s long hair was damp with sweat. She casually picked up Lou Qingshuang’s hair tie from the table and tied her own hair up. The pheromone neutralizer quickly purified the air in the room.
Liu Yu unbuttoned the top two buttons of her shirt, revealing a glimpse of her underwear. The sound of running water echoed from the bathroom. Liu Yu stood at the door, waiting.
Fifteen minutes later, Lou Qingshuang emerged wrapped in a bathrobe. Her hair was wrapped in a quick-dry towel, and she wore a floral robe. Liu Yu stood at the bathroom door watching her.
“Thank you.” Having showered, Lou Qingshuang felt much better as she thanked Liu Yu.
“Did you forget we have a rescue agreement? There’s no need to be so polite, Lou Qingshuang.” Liu Yu walked over and removed the towel from Lou Qingshuang’s head. “Let me dry your hair for you.”
“No need, I can do it myself.” Lou Qingshuang took a step back to refuse.
“What if you start heating up again halfway through?” Liu Yu stepped forward, cornering her.
Lou Qingshuang looked into Liu Yu’s insistent eyes. She didn’t have the energy to argue. “Then dry it.”
Liu Yu got the hairdryer from the bathroom. Lou Qingshuang sat sideways on the sofa while Liu Yu stood behind her.
Liu Yu imitated Alphas she had seen in movies, clumsily and gently drying Lou Qingshuang’s hair. Her long fingers lifted the wet strands, combing through them. Water dripped onto the dry towel draped over Lou Qingshuang’s shoulders.
This was the first time Liu Yu had ever dried someone’s hair so meticulously, and Lou Qingshuang felt her care. With her back to Liu Yu, a trace of a smile appeared on her face—a very shallow smile, though a dark glint flickered in her eyes.
Liu Yu, you better not forget the words you said before.
The calculating look in Lou Qingshuang’s eyes faded, returning to a calm state so that no one could see the change. The warm air hitting Liu Yu’s fingers soon dried the hair, and she even brought over a comb and essential oils to treat it.
“Liu Yu, we only have an agreement. You don’t need to do these things,” Lou Qingshuang said, turning to look at her.
Liu Yu looked down at her. “In a relationship like ours, even if we can’t be lovers, we at least need to get along harmoniously, don’t we?”
Liu Yu used a tactical retreat, trying to bridge the distance between them.
“There isn’t much necessity for that, is there?” Lou Qingshuang said, looking at Liu Yu’s face. No matter how many times she saw it, she always found this face beautiful.
