- Chapter 5 - You Are Mine
Chi Li froze. “Aren’t you an artist from the Film and Television Department?”
The Film and Television Department was located on the 16th floor, and since Shen Xunye’s elevator had come down from above, the assumption seemed logical. With a face like that, how could he not be an artist? Was he joking?
“I am not an artist either,” Shen Xunye replied.
“A staff member?” Chi Li was genuinely surprised. “Didn’t your colleagues try to persuade you to join the industry?”
“I am not a staff member, either.” A smirk tugged at the corner of Shen Xunye’s mouth. “I am the family member of a certain staff member.”
“It is not a girlfriend or anything, right?” Chi Li immediately went on high alert.
Even though the couple dynamic was fake, he did not want to manufacture a romance with someone who had a significant other. That would make him feel guilty. He realized he should have asked for clarification sooner.
“Of course not. I have an older brother who works here.”
“Whew, thank God.” The heart that had been dangling in Chi Li’s throat instantly settled back down. “Well, since you cannot act, just behave naturally. Do not be afraid. In the beginning, pretend we are not close, and in the later stages, just follow my lead.”
One could not have high expectations for a civilian. When the time came, Chi Li would take the initiative to create some ambiguity and then have Gu Nan use a sub-account to lead the fans in shipping them. It should not be a problem.
Shen Xunye was surprisingly obedient. “Okay.”
“Then let us not talk about personas anymore.” Chi Li swapped out a set of documents and placed them in front of him. “Get to know these three people.”
“Who are they?” Shen Xunye flipped through them with little interest.
“Future colleagues and also our main competitors.” Chi Li accepted the first dish served by the waiter. “Our goal is to steal the limelight from them.”
“Is that so?” Shen Xunye remained indifferent. “Then how do we steal the limelight from them?”
“Fanservice,” Chi Li said with a look that suggested the answer was obvious. “We will go hard on the fanservice and knock them straight out of the game.”
This time, Shen Xunye looked interested. “How hard?”
“Do not worry about it; I will handle the boundaries,” Chi Li said, despite not having actually decided how far to go yet.
Shen Xunye nodded. “Okay.”
“Remember these three faces well, especially that Zhou Yang.” Chi Li gritted his teeth, saying hatefully, “It would be best if we could rip that hypocritical mask right off his face in front of the cameras.”
Shen Xunye raised an eyebrow, looking at Zhou Yang’s plain appearance on the screen. “A personal grudge?”
“Yes.” Chi Li did not hide it, stating, “You are my person. We should stand together against the common enemy.”
Shen Xunye smiled. “That goes without saying.”
Three days later, the Growth House, 10:00 AM.
Zhou Yang ran into the living room out of breath, holding a letter, and shouted, “Senior! There is a letter from the program crew!”
Xie Weishui ran out of the kitchen, wiped his hands on his apron, and trotted to his side. “Could it be that someone is coming to visit?”
To provide a perfect sense of immersion, no staff members appeared on camera for What Should We Do Today?. Occasional tasks were delivered through the mailbox at the entrance. There were currently three scenarios for receiving a letter:
- A new member is moving into the Growth House.
- A guest is coming to visit the Growth House.
- There is a special plan requiring members to travel together.
Half a month ago, the Growth House had been invited to a local amusement park, and just a few days ago, Zhou Yang had joined as a new member. Therefore, the most likely scenario was a guest visit.
“Ah?” Zhou Yang looked nervous. “A guest? What preparations do we need to make?”
“Look at you.” Xie Weishui gave him a playful, reproaching look and took the envelope to open it. “Do not worry, Senior will protect you.”
But in the next second, Xie Weishui’s smile froze.
“Members Xu Su and Yang Haiguang will move out of the villa before 12:00. Around 2:00 PM, new members will move in.” He slowly read the words on the card, puzzled. “Why are there new members again?”
Zhou Yang made a crying face. “I am not the newest one anymore so soon.”
In reality, he was calculating. Xu Su and Yang Haiguang had no presence, and by following Xie Weishui, Zhou Yang could almost dominate the main livestream. With two newcomers arriving, the camera would prioritize them regardless of their performance. He decided he would pretend to be enthusiastic and hover around them to steal the shots.
While Zhou Yang was silently calculating, Xie Weishui had already adjusted his state of mind.
“Well, it is always good to have fresh blood join. Let us see off Brother Xu and Xiao Yang later, then go to the nearby supermarket to buy some things. Let us throw a welcome ceremony for the new members.”
A smile blossomed on Zhou Yang’s face. “I will listen to Senior!”
He is so fake, Zhou Yang thought. He is clearly afraid he will not be able to control the newcomers. But he better hold onto his power in the Growth House, otherwise, I will suffer along with him.
“I am also your senior.” Fang Jin walked over, skillfully inserting himself into the conversation. “How come I have not heard you call me that?”
[Argh! Today’s drama came so early.]
[Why does it smell so jealous in this house?]
[Every day I worry about my wife being snatched away. Oh, my poor Fang Jin.]
[Does no one think Xie Weishui is a jerk? He barely interacts with anyone but Zhou Yang now. Isn’t this basically cheating? Isn’t Fang Jin pitiful? How can fans of this couple even stomach this?]
[They are not a real couple. Why are you bringing up cheating?]
[Didn’t they sell the ship themselves? Even if it is not cheating, it hurts the feelings of the fans. They are using Fang Jin as a stepping stone. In that case, I support Fang Jin pairing up with a newcomer.]
[I support it! Couples should be mixed up to be flavorful.]
“What does ‘mixed up’ mean?” Shen Xunye’s arm rested naturally on the back of the sofa, his fingertips only an inch away from Chi Li’s shoulder.
Chi Li was staring intently at the screen. “It means pairing up with anyone.”
“Pairing with anyone?” Shen Xunye offered a sharp critique. “How promiscuous.”
“You certainly have a way with words.” Chi Li leaned back, glancing at him.
The soft tips of Chi Li’s hair brushed lightly against Shen Xunye’s wrist. He did not move his hand; instead, he tilted his weight slightly further in that direction. From a certain angle, it looked as if he had Chi Li completely encircled within his territory.
“I do not want to join that kind of strange relationship,” Shen Xunye spoke disdainfully.
“I will not allow you to join that kind of strange relationship, either.” Chi Li lowered his head to take a sip of juice through a straw, instructing him solemnly, “I am the one who found you, so you can only look at me. You flirt with me, and you do fanservice with me. Understand?”
“Understood.” Shen Xunye reached out to help him tidy his hair. “Such strong possessiveness?”
“Let us go. We are going to the mall; I need to buy them some gifts.” Chi Li stood up abruptly, dragging Shen Xunye along.
“Do we really have to buy them gifts?” Shen Xunye asked reluctantly.
“You do not have to buy anything. Just remember, we do not know each other at first. Do not let the secret out.”
“I am not an idiot.”
