- Chapter 23 - This Pair is Good for My Eyes
[I smell the scent of pure love. [Starry eyes] I am your only and most loyal spectator.]
[Since they look like that, they should just do it in front of me! Playing at “pure love” is such a waste!]
[Sister, calm down; this is a daily slow-paced variety show, not a pornographic film.]
[Don’t worry, they will definitely be doing plenty of it in fan fiction.]
[Passing a pen to the author.]
“Include me too!” Jiang Lele hurriedly interjected, fearing being left out by the two.
Chi Li raised his hands high and stretched. “Then I thank you all.”
The three arrived at the KTV room, and Wei Xuan was currently interacting with the viewers on his personal live channel. This is a common way to maintain paid subscribers; after all, if there is no content, one must do something to keep the audience in the channel.
“Uh,” Jiang Lele spoke with hesitation, “do you still have to sing for your fans?”
“Yes.” Wei Xuan nodded, his gaze sweeping over the three of them in turn. “I promised to sing eight songs today, and I have only sung three so far.”
“Okay.” Jiang Lele looked at Chi Li with a bit of embarrassment. “Then how about we go to the dance practice room first?”
Chi Li did not mind. “Sure.”
“Wait a second!” Wei Xuan, who had been glancing at the barrage, hurriedly called out to the three. “Let’s sing together.”
The audience was spamming that they wanted to hear a duet. As someone who dotes on his fans, he naturally had to satisfy their demands. Besides, if there were more people, he might be able to siphon off some traffic from the main live broadcast room.
“Sing together?” Jiang Lele turned to look at Chi Li. Although he really wanted to have some interaction with Shen Xunye, he knew that it was highly unlikely he would get any response, so he could only settle for the next best thing and interact with Chi Li. Why could he not encounter someone like Fang Jin who was willing to cooperate with him?
“Sure, I haven’t warmed up my voice yet today anyway.” Chi Li picked a spot and sat down. “Let’s take turns.”
Shen Xunye sat down beside him with a natural air. Watching the two of them surrounded by their own invisible barrier, Jiang Lele had to shelve the thought of cutting in and sat beside Wei Xuan instead.
“Um, let me go first.” Guessing that the main live broadcast camera should have panned over, Wei Xuan was eager to try. “I was just chatting with my fans, so I was planning to sing anyway.”
“Go ahead.”
Chi Li nodded slightly and reached for the song selection device left on the side, his fingers sliding lightly across the screen. As the accompaniment started, Wei Xuan straightened his collar and got into character.
Chi Li wanted to speak to Shen Xunye, but his voice was drowned out by the deafening singing. He simply leaned over, his lips almost touching Shen Xunye’s earlobe. “Do you have a song you want to sing? I will order it for you.”
His warm breath, mixed with a lingering scent of green tea, brushed against the tip of Shen Xunye’s ear. Shen Xunye turned his head, and their breathing briefly intertwined in the dim light.
“No.” He also leaned close to Chi Li’s ear. “I am here to be your audience.”
“Hmm.”
Chi Li raised his hand to brush his slightly heated earlobe with discomfort. Tsk. Shen Xunye seemed to have more talent for “fan service” than he had imagined.
[Report! Someone is whispering here.]
[Whoever invented the “Ming-Ye-Jin-Li” ship yesterday is a genius. I admit I am a bit hooked now.]
[Not to mention anything else, this pair is at least good for my eyes. [Starry eyes]]
[Wei Xuan: So, does no one care about me performing so hard?]
[You reminded me, the main live room keeps cutting to Wei Xuan’s face; I have to head over to his personal channel.]
Chi Li’s personal live channel saw another small surge in paid subscriptions. He ordered two well-known popular songs, handed the selector to Jiang Lele, and became an attentive listener. Shen Xunye leaned back, his arm resting on the back of the sofa behind Chi Li, his fingertips occasionally twirling a lock of the other’s hair.
Chi Li watched the screen while listening to the music, and Shen Xunye tilted his head to watch his exquisite face illuminated by the screen’s light. The air flowing between the two was so thick and impenetrable, as if they were framed by a transparent barrier that no one else could step into.
[I don’t believe for a second that this Shen Xunye doesn’t have other intentions. [Smile]]
[What are you doing! Take your hand back! [Anger] Get away from my wife!]
[Please do not have such possessive thoughts about my wife.]
[Why not change your way of thinking—this “avatar” quality is quite good; I will wear it away first.]
Soon, Wei Xuan finished his passionate performance. He looked down at his phone screen, confirmed that the number of viewers in the room had increased, and then handed the microphone to Chi Li with a big smile. “Your turn.”
Chi Li picked up the other microphone on the table. “Thanks, I have one here.”
Wei Xuan retracted his microphone with some embarrassment. Looking at the song title appearing on the screen, he said excitedly, “Are you singing this? I can do a duet with you!”
Chi Li naturally did not mind. “Whatever you want.”
He held the microphone, his left hand resting on his thigh, tapping out the beat, and instantly got into his zone. When he sang the first line, everyone’s gaze in the room fell on him simultaneously. Chi Li’s voice had been processed to a certain extent when singing, which was quite different from his usual speaking voice. The bass felt like the night descending; every word was wrapped in a velvety, sandy texture, firmly gripping the listeners’ ears. The vocal runs were handled lightly and airily, like a feather stroking the tip of the heart.
Wei Xuan raised his microphone several times, wanting to find a moment to join in, but in the end, he only opened his mouth without making a sound. Logically speaking, someone who looks so beautiful should not have much talent. How could Chi Li be the exception? He was certain that if he joined the duet now, it would undoubtedly be asking for humiliation.
By the time Wei Xuan quietly lowered his microphone, Chi Li had already reached the high-pitched part. He tilted his head back, frowning slightly; his neck pulled into a beautiful arc, and his Adam’s apple traced a smooth line in the light. His hand gripping the microphone tightened slightly, with blue veins faintly appearing on the back of his fair hand. When he sang, “Perhaps you should give me a kiss now,” he swept his gaze across the room casually, finally letting his eyes settle on Shen Xunye.
Shen Xunye received this gaze at close range, a subtle, barely-there smile immediately curling his lips. Jiang Lele witnessed this scene. While thinking, “Sure enough,” he could not stop the jealousy from rising. It was not just jealousy that Chi Li had stolen Shen Xunye’s gaze, but jealousy of his everything. His height, his looks, his voice, his ability, and this “self-centered” personality that did not need to please anyone. To use a popular phrase on the internet, Jiang Lele had originally intended to live his life to become someone like Chi Li.
He pressed his swollen heart, took a bottle of water from under the table, twisted it open, and drank more than half of it in one go. As the final notes faded, the room returned to a brief silence.
Shen Xunye revealed a flower that had appeared from nowhere and handed it to Chi Li. “A gift to replace the cheers.”
Chi Li reached out and took it. “Thank you, I like it very much.”
Wei Xuan felt a complex mix of emotions, but he still applauded vigorously. “Chi Li, you sang so well.”
