Help! A Green Tea Alpha Is Obsessed with Me - Chapter 4
Killing someone was naturally out of the question. No matter how dissatisfied Pei Xingzhi was, he could only vent with words. After complaining, he still obediently followed the teacher’s instructions.
Perhaps his previous actions had been too insulting for Xie Nanyi, as Xie Nanyi seemed to have given up on pestering him. It had been nearly a week since he last lingered around Pei Xingzhi. These past few days, Pei Xingzhi had enjoyed a rare sense of relief, and his appetite had improved as well.
The film appreciation class was held only once a week. Pei Xingzhi had assumed that, given Xie Nanyi’s personality, he would simply skip the class. However, the smile on his face immediately vanished the moment he saw Xie Nanyi.
“Xiao Zhi.” Xie Nanyi smiled warmly, pointing to the empty seat beside him as an invitation to sit.
This was supposed to be a large lecture, and usually, there would be nearly an entire row of empty seats in the classroom. But today, for some reason, the seats seemed to have been arranged deliberately. Apart from the one next to Xie Nanyi, there were only a few scattered empty spots. When Pei Xingzhi glanced toward them, the people sitting nearby immediately placed their belongings on the empty seats, signaling to him that the spots were already taken.
Such an obvious setup left no doubt about who was behind it.
Pei Xingzhi glared at Xie Nanyi, but the latter shamelessly continued to point to the seat beside him.
Pei Xingzhi turned to Zhuang Xiaoyue with an awkward smile, silently pleading for rescue.
Zhuang Xiaoyue shuddered at the sight of Xie Nanyi’s face, avoided Pei Xingzhi’s gaze, and gave him a gentle push forward.
“You two are in the same group, so you should sit together. I’ll go find my group.”
Dodging Pei Xingzhi’s struggling hands, Zhuang Xiaoyue ran off without looking back. Left with no choice, Pei Xingzhi reluctantly took the seat next to Xie Nanyi.
“Xiao Zhi, you seem to have gained some weight recently.” Xie Nanyi spoke with a tender, affectionate tone, but his words made Pei Xingzhi want to punch him.
“…”
Pei Xingzhi didn’t want to talk to him. After shooting him another glare, he gripped his book and shifted further away, trying to put as much distance between them as possible.
If he couldn’t avoid trouble, at least he could avoid the person causing it!
The film appreciation teacher was a professor in his sixties, thin, small in stature, yet dignified. His words carried an authoritative weight that commanded respect without anger. As soon as he entered the classroom, silence fell, and all eyes turned toward the podium.
“Xiao Zhi, are you angry?” Xie Nanyi lightly touched Pei Xingzhi’s fingers resting on the desk, whispering softly.
Pei Xingzhi quickly withdrew his hand from the desk and shifted even further away, deliberately ignoring Xie Nanyi’s words.
Using his phone’s dark screen as a mirror, Pei Xingzhi couldn’t help but pinch his own cheek.
“Have I really gained that much weight?”
“Xiao Zhi, have you missed me these past few days?” Xie Nanyi paid no mind to Pei Xingzhi’s disregard and continued speaking to him naturally in a low voice. “Xiao Zhi, I know you don’t believe me, but I have no reason to lie to you. My mark doesn’t lie. Look.”
“I don’t want to look!” Afraid that Xie Nanyi might cause a bloody scene in class, Pei Xingzhi reluctantly spoke up. “Can’t you just leave me alone?”
“Xiao Zhi doesn’t want to talk to me?”
“Stop calling me Xiao Zhi. I don’t want to talk to you.” Restless irritation once again seeped into Pei Xingzhi’s body. Every time he encountered Xie Nanyi, he struggled to control his emotions. Xie Nanyi seemed to deliberately stoke his anger, each sentence adding another layer to his fury.
“Let’s just focus on the lecture.” Pei Xingzhi straightened up and ignored Xie Nanyi, but Xie Nanyi clearly wasn’t the type to take a hint and leave him alone. Although he stopped talking, an intense, unwavering gaze fixed on Pei Xingzhi.
“Can you stop staring at me…?” Pei Xingzhi felt his skin crawl under that gaze and reached out to nudge Xie Nanyi’s leg from under the desk. “Look at the blackboard.”
“If Xiao Zhi won’t let me talk, can’t I at least look at you?” Xie Nanyi’s words were dripping with affection. A classmate who had been eavesdropping couldn’t help but glance back at them, then flashed a knowing smile.
“What do you think?” Xie Nanyi pulled the turning classmate into the conversation, seeking his opinion.
“I think you two make a good match.” The classmate in front showed no embarrassment at being caught eavesdropping and even gave them a thumbs-up.
“See, Xiao Zhi? Even our classmates think we’re a good fit.”
Pei Xingzhi didn’t want to respond. He had clearly seen the classmate in front just sending a message to the campus confession wall.
“Xie Nanyi, is there something wrong with you here?” Pei Xingzhi pressed a finger to his temple, his expression sincere. “I think you need to see a doctor.”
“I already have, but the doctor said only Xiao Zhi can cure my illness.” On this point, Xie Nanyi wasn’t lying, his condition truly could only be treated by Pei Xingzhi.
The cheesy pickup line Xie Nanyi had picked up from who-knows-what era made Pei Xingzhi deeply uncomfortable. He couldn’t help but frown and flip him off.
“You two in the back, if you don’t want to listen to the lecture, I can dismiss you early.”
Pei Xingzhi’s middle finger was still raised mid-air when the gazes of the front-row students all turned toward them. The stares of nearly a hundred people made Pei Xingzhi feel as if he were sitting on pins and needles. His hand froze in mid-air, he couldn’t lower it, nor could he keep it raised.
“Professor, I…” Pei Xingzhi stood up, his mind racing to come up with an excuse.
This old professor was notoriously strict. Pei Xingzhi had already regretted choosing his class, not only were the credits hard to earn, but attending lectures felt like walking on eggshells.
If he left a bad impression on this professor, his scholarship for the semester would be doomed.
“Professor, I’m not feeling well. Pei Xingzhi was raising his hand to ask for leave on my behalf.” Xie Nanyi stood up, taking over Pei Xingzhi’s words and smoothly completing the excuse for him.
The teachers at the school understood Xie Nanyi’s background better than the students did, and naturally, they were more aware of social niceties. The professor adjusted his reading glasses, his earlier sternness vanishing completely, replaced by a kindly, almost grandfatherly demeanor.
“Oh, I see. Xiao Xie, if you’re not feeling well, you should go to the hospital right away. Don’t push yourself.”
“Thank you, Professor. I’ll have Xiao Zhi accompany me to the hospital then.”
“Of course, of course. Go ahead.”
With their seamless back-and-forth, by the time Pei Xingzhi realized what was happening, he had already been dragged out of the classroom by Xie Nanyi.
“What exactly are you trying to do?!” Pei Xingzhi shook off Xie Nanyi’s hand, staring at him in confusion.
“I was helping you out of a tight spot.” Xie Nanyi narrowed his eyes, looking at Pei Xingzhi’s wrist, which had turned red from his grip. His gaze was unmistakably that of a hunter confident in capturing his prey.
“If it weren’t for you, there wouldn’t be this trouble. Can you please stop pestering me? I’ve said it so many times, we really have no connection. You’ve got the wrong person!” Pei Xingzhi had repeated similar words countless times, but no matter how much evidence he presented to prove he truly wasn’t the one Xie Nanyi was looking for, Xie Nanyi remained steadfast in his belief.
“I haven’t made a mistake, Xiao Zhi. You’re getting a bit too worked up.” Xie Nanyi seemed oblivious to his emotions, his expression cold as he grabbed Pei Xingzhi’s hand and placed it on the name engraved on his own wrist. “Look, this is your name.”
For the first time, Pei Xingzhi didn’t pull his hand away. Instead, he raised his head and looked at Xie Nanyi with a look of resentment he had never seen before.
“Xie Nanyi, Alphas and Omegas, as sexual minorities in society, have always enjoyed various preferential policies. The same goes for those with imprints. No one wouldn’t want to differentiate into a privileged group, including me.
But the truth is, I’m just an ordinary Beta. I’m not your imprinted one, nor am I anyone else’s. I’m just Pei Xingzhi.”
Why is the treatment gap between Alphas, Betas, and Omegas so stark? Pei Xingzhi had pondered this question in the past, but no one had ever given him an answer.
Pei Xingzhi’s parents, as part of the Alpha-Omega minority, had no clear understanding of the disparities in treatment among Alphas, Betas, and Omegas. To them, aside from gender, there was no difference. They had never experienced the injustices that came with being “ordinary,” so they couldn’t possibly consider Pei Xingzhi’s perspective.
Thus, they sent 7-year-old Pei Xingzhi to a prestigious school dominated by Alphas and Omegas, where he endured six long years of exclusion and bullying.
Pei Xingzhi’s memories of elementary school were somewhat hazy, but the feelings from that time remained etched in his heart.
Why must Betas be inferior to Alphas and Omegas? It’s just a difference in gender, after all.
The achievements that came easily to Alphas and Omegas often required Pei Xingzhi to put in dozens of times more effort. Even when he came first in the school’s 100-meter race, he had to settle for second place to avoid hurting an Alpha’s pride. Even when his grades were the highest in a competition, he was pushed to second place because an Omega, who should have been runner-up, received gender-based bonus points…
So many honors that should have been his were taken away by others simply because of the word “gender.”
Pei Xingzhi found this deeply unfair, and he wanted to break this cycle of “unfairness.”
So what if he wasn’t born special? He could still become special in his own way.
He wasn’t anyone’s imprinted one. He was just himself.
Even though he was just an ordinary Beta, he had no obligation to play along with Xie Nanyi’s charade.
“Xiao Zhi…” Xie Nanyi didn’t understand why Pei Xingzhi was saying all this. Was it really such a good thing to differentiate into an Alpha or Omega? Being controlled by so-called pheromones every day, acting like livestock in heat at any moment, bound by pheromones to unite with someone you don’t even know…
“Imprinters, like Alphas and Omegas, also enjoy government privileges. So, do you think I have any reason to refuse something I’ve always dreamed of?” Pei Xingzhi spoke with a calm tone, expressing his own resentment. He thought he had come to accept it, but it turned out he still couldn’t fully let go.
Because they were numerous, they were considered inferior genes; because they could be suppressed by the pheromones of either Alphas or Omegas, they were relegated to the lowest status, performing the most mundane tasks; no matter how outstanding he was, he had to struggle just to squeeze into the student council, and he had to achieve nearly perfect grades to secure a scholarship…
He wasn’t an Imprinter at all. What right did Xie Nanyi have to mock and toy with him again and again?
“Xiao Zhi…” Familiar pain surged through Xie Nanyi’s body. He could only see Pei Xingzhi’s lips moving, but he couldn’t make out what he was saying. His consciousness slowly drifted away from his body, and instinct took over, driving him to lunge forward and wrap his arms tightly around Pei Xingzhi.
Pei Xingzhi hadn’t expected Xie Nanyi to suddenly act this way. He struggled, trying to break free, but Xie Nanyi’s embrace only tightened, his strength so overwhelming it felt as though he wanted to press Pei Xingzhi into his very being.
“Xie Nanyi, let go of me!” It seemed all his earlier words had been spoken to the wind, this man hadn’t listened to a single one.
“Xiao Zhi… I’m in so much pain…”
The warm breath against his ear made Pei Xingzhi uncomfortable, but what unsettled him even more was that Xie Nanyi seemed to be…whining to him?
“Xie Nanyi, get up! You’re really heavy!”
There was no response from the person on top of him. A sudden sense of foreboding washed over Pei Xingzhi. He pushed Xie Nanyi hard, but aside from steady breathing, there was no reaction.
Unwilling to accept this reality, Pei Xingzhi stubbornly patted Xie Nanyi’s face, turning it red with the force of his slaps. Yet, the man remained unconscious, eyes tightly shut.
Xie Nanyi had passed out on top of him.
