- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 85 - Twins
Lu Tingzhou’s words were cold and sharp, piercing straight into Lu Qishan’s heart.
“Outrageous!”
Lu Qishan slammed his hand down on the armrest, veins bulging on the back of his hand, his fury overwhelming.
“I’m your father! Is this how you speak to me?”
A mocking smile curled at the corner of Lu Tingzhou’s lips, but his eyes held no trace of warmth, only an unyielding chill.
“So what?”
His tone was indifferent, his gaze as if he were looking at a stranger throwing a tantrum.
“Just because you’re my father, I should stand by and let the first and second branches of the family circle me like hyenas scenting blood, tearing me apart?”
“You backed me into a corner, then threw me into a subsidiary to fend for myself. Did you ever consider how I felt?”
Lu Qishan was left breathless, his face flushing a deep, ugly red.
He had always believed that Lu Tingzhou was the son who resembled him the most, just as ruthless, just as ambitious.
That was why he had to temper him.
Jade must be carved to become a gem. The hardest bone required the harshest methods to shape.
“I did it because I saw potential in you!”
Lu Qishan clung to his paternal authority, but his voice wavered despite himself.
“You’re the most like me in temperament. I wanted to test you, to see how far you could go!”
“Test me?”
Lu Tingzhou let out a low, humorless laugh, as if he had just heard the funniest joke of the century.
“There are countless ways to test someone, yet you chose the most extreme… and the cruelest.”
He lifted his gaze, sharp as a blade, and fixed it on Lu Qishan.
“From childhood till now, what have you ever given me? Nothing but harshness.”
The old man refused to back down. “If not for my harshness, would you have achieved what you have today?”
“Without your harshness, I might have been even better, who knows?”
Lu Tingzhou’s tone was casual, almost dismissive.
“You!” Lu Qishan pounded the sofa. “Are you trying to kill me with anger?”
“You should be grateful I’m not dead. Otherwise, the pain of a parent burying their child would be enough to haunt you for life.”
Lu Qishan stiffened. “What do you mean?”
Lu Tingzhou lifted his eyelids slightly. “I suspect the car accident in the capital wasn’t an accident.”
The old man’s pupils constricted violently as he stared at Lu Tingzhou. “What did you say?”
“Because of Sang Wan’s mother, I reopened the investigation into the accident and found some leads.”
“You… what nonsense are you spouting? Your eldest brother may have been in charge of the company before, but he’s mild-tempered. How could he ever harm you?”
“And the second brother was abroad at the time, he had no opportunity.”
“Just because the eldest brother wouldn’t do it doesn’t mean those around him wouldn’t.”
Lu Qishan had also harbored suspicions about that accident. His third son had nearly lost his life, and someone else, someone else had died in that car.
But the investigation report back then had been crystal clear, it was just an accident.
So, he had dismissed his doubts.
“The police investigated thoroughly back then. The circumstances were clear, it wasn’t deliberate.”
Lu Tingzhou sneered. “Based on what I’ve found, Sun Meixi gave Song Xinran a million yuan before the accident. What’s their connection?”
He leaned forward slightly, an overwhelming pressure instantly filling the room.
“One is the eldest young mistress of the Lu family, the other a fresh college graduate. Before this, they had no ties whatsoever.”
“Why would two people with no prior connection suddenly have a financial transaction?”
Each word struck Lu Qishan’s heart like a nail, shattering his self-righteous assumptions into pieces.
His lips trembled, unable to utter a single word.
Sun Meixi… How could it be…
Lu Tingzhou showed no trace of sympathy as he watched the shock on his father’s face, continuing to drop bombshell after bombshell.
“Think again… why would my eldest brother, perfectly fine one moment, suddenly decide to become a monk?”
“If he didn’t carry guilt in his heart, why would a man still bound to the mortal world retreat to some remote ancient temple, spending the rest of his days with only a dim oil lamp and a Buddha statue?”
Lu Qishan abruptly stood up, his vision darkening from the overwhelming surge of emotions.
He gripped the back of the sofa to steady himself.
“Your brother… he did it because of Sang Jingchu!”
He panted heavily. The marriage between Lu Tingyuan and his wife had been rocky for half a lifetime because of Sang Jingchu.
But his youngest son had never paid attention to such matters, and after the eldest left home, he had no desire to bring it up again.
“The person who died in that car accident was Sang Jingchu! The woman your brother truly loved, it was always her!”
Lu Tingzhou pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek. Yesterday, he had stood not far away, listening clearly to the conversation between Sang Wan and Lu Tingyuan.
“Do you really believe my brother chose to become a monk solely out of grief for Sang Jingchu?”
Lu Tingzhou’s voice was calm, so calm it bordered on cruelty.
“He and Sun Meixi had two children together.”
Lu Qishan froze, clearly grasping his implication.
Lu Tingzhou continued unhurriedly, “If the unborn child was an accident, a product of an arranged marriage…”
“Then what about Jinxuan?”
Lu Tingzhou pressed forward relentlessly. “If his heart truly belonged to Sang Jingchu alone, how could Jinxuan exist? How could he have lived with Sun Meixi for over twenty years?”
“Sang Jingchu got married. Did you expect your brother to-”
Lu Tingzhou sneered. “If I were the type to renounce the world over a woman leaving, I would never touch another. I don’t doubt that my brother loved Sang Jingchu. But his love wasn’t that pure.”
Lu Qishan was rendered speechless, his mouth opening and closing without a sound.
“So, there’s only one truth.”
Lu Tingzhou leaned back into the sofa, posture relaxed, yet his words cut like knives.
“He loved Sang Jingchu, but buried that love deep in his heart.”
“Her departure was merely the trigger that made him abandon everything and seek refuge in the monastery.”
Silence.
A suffocating silence filled the living room.
Lu Qishan seemed to have all the strength drained from his body as he slowly collapsed back onto the sofa, his eyes hollow and lost.
Muttering to himself, he whispered, “Why…?”
“I will investigate every single one of these matters… thoroughly.”
Lu Tingzhou’s voice cut through the quiet once more, resolute and unyielding.
“You’re old now, and your health isn’t good. There’s no need for you to meddle in this.”
He paused, lifting his gaze to meet Lu Qishan’s, his eyes carrying a faint, barely detectable weariness and detachment.
“If you think handing Lu Corporation over to me was some grand favor to me,”
“That’s fine.”
“You can give it to Second Brother now. Or… to Jinxuan.”
“I don’t care.”
With that, he stood up, not sparing Lu Qishan another glance as he strode toward the staircase.
His tall, unyielding figure was as decisive as an unsheathed blade, there would be no turning back.
Lu Qishan stared blankly in the direction where Lu Tingzhou had disappeared, trembling slightly as he finally stood up and left after a long while.
Sang Wan was feeling a bit tired. She had taken a shower as soon as she returned and was now lying in bed.
Seeing Lu Tingzhou walk in with an expressionless face, she guessed that the conversation between him and his father hadn’t gone well.
She got up and fetched his underwear and pajamas for him. “Go take a shower first.”
Lu Tingzhou met her slightly worried gaze and pulled her into an embrace.
“I’m fine. If you’re tired, just lie down.”
He didn’t want to share his inner doubts with Sang Wan. These were burdens he could bear alone.
…
The next day, Sang Wan slept until ten in the morning. She asked Su Mo and Qi Qi to accompany her to the hospital in the afternoon.
Although she was already certain she was pregnant, she still wanted to get a full checkup to ensure everything was alright.
When Su Mo heard the news that she might be pregnant, her jaw dropped in shock.
“Wanwan, you’re moving way too fast! You just got the man, and now the baby’s already on the way?”
Sang Wan smiled sheepishly. “It was an accident, okay? Just an accident.”
While waiting for the test results, Su Mo leaned in and whispered, “Does Lu Tingzhou know?”
Sang Wan shook her head. “Not yet. I’ll tell him later.”
Thinking about his birthday at the beginning of next month, she pursed her lips slightly.
“Judging by your reaction, you’re planning to keep it?”
Sang Wan’s expression was hidden behind her mask, but her eyes flickered with surprise at Su Mo’s assumption.
“Of course I’m keeping it. Why wouldn’t I? Having a child with the man I love, what could be happier than that?”
Su Mo sighed enviously. “You should keep it. I was just worried you might think your career is on the rise and not want to.”
“I stumbled into the entertainment industry by accident. The career I truly love is just getting started.”
Hearing this, Su Mo understood. “Don’t worry, I’ll oversee the renovation. Once it’s done, we can officially start our business.”
Qi Qi returned with the test results, excited but also a little concerned. “Sister Wan, should we tell Sister Wei? What if she books you for another project or a script while you’re on break?”
Sang Wan took the results and stood up to head to the doctor’s office, instructing Qi Qi, “Don’t tell her, no matter what. Otherwise, Lu Tingzhou might find out.”
Qi Qi nodded. “Right. Sister Wei’s been close to Lu Jinxuan lately, handling the merger of our studio. If she knows, there’s no guarantee Lu Jinxuan won’t find out.”
Su Mo and Qi Qi flanked Sang Wan as they entered the doctor’s office.
“Doctor, here are the test results.”
Sang Wan handed over the report and sat down.
The doctor glanced at the name and smiled warmly. “Miss Sang, congratulations!”
Sang Wan nodded calmly. “Thank you.”
The doctor raised an eyebrow. “You seem so composed?”
“Because I already tested positive with a pregnancy strip yesterday.” Sang Wan smiled slightly.
“Did you look closely at the report?”
Both Sang Wan and Qi Qi froze. They had seen the results confirming an intrauterine pregnancy at six weeks.
Realizing they hadn’t examined it thoroughly, the doctor pushed the report toward them. “Take a closer look.”
Sang Wan studied the report carefully this time, reading every word from the top.
Uterus size, shape…
Double yolk sacs, left 4mm5mm, right 5mm6mm, with primitive cardiovascular pulsations.
Of course, Sang Wan understood what this double yolk sac meant. She widened her eyes, looking first at the doctor and then at the two people beside her.
“Twins?”
She uttered the word with a mix of joy and astonishment before immediately pulling off her mask.
The doctor smiled at her beautiful, radiant face and nodded. “Congratulations!”
