- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 78 - The Marriage Certificate
“What do I have to be angry about? At best, we’re a couple dating right now; at worst, we’re just glorified fuck buddies with a legitimate label.”
Lu Tingzhou listened to her jealous, biting words, pressed his lips together, then nipped lightly at the hollow of her neck.
“Since it’s legitimate, then I won’t hold back.”
With that, he flipped her over and pinned her beneath him, his warm, dry hand already slipping under her nightgown.
“Don’t act like a rogue in broad daylight.”
Sang Wan pushed at him, trying to break free, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t muster any strength.
Her legs were forcibly parted by him.
…
By the time Lu Tingzhou carried her downstairs, it was already 9 p.m. The housekeeper, Liu Ma, had prepared dinner and left after keeping it warm.
“Eat more. You’re so thin, there’s barely any meat on you.”
Lu Tingzhou served her rice and a bowl of chicken soup.
Sang Wan glanced down at the ample curves of her chest and scoffed. “Barely any meat, yet you still-”
She didn’t finish the words “can’t keep your hands off me” before the man’s darkened gaze fixed on her, as if he might silence her any second.
Watching him take a sip of the chicken soup, Sang Wan shrugged. “I can’t stay here anymore. Even telling the truth gets me the cold shoulder. If you’re tired of me, just say so, I know how to make space. President Lu-”
Her next words were abruptly cut off as his lips sealed hers.
“Mmm…”
Forced to swallow a mouthful of chicken soup, Sang Wan glared at him indignantly.
It wasn’t that she found it disgusting, they’d done far more intimate things, but being suddenly force-fed had nearly made her choke.
“If you don’t know how to eat, I can feed you.”
His voice was calm and measured as he gave the glaring little fox a meaningful look. “I’ll feed you wherever you’re still hungry.”
“Cough, cough!”
Sang Wan’s ears instantly burned red. When a man got this bold, women really didn’t stand a chance.
She subtly shifted her chair away, putting some distance between them, then obediently focused on her meal.
Over the next two days, Sang Wan, Su Mo, and Qi Qi discussed plans to establish a fashion design studio.
Though it had started as Qi Qi’s impulsive suggestion, Sang Wan genuinely thought it was a great idea.
With Sang Enterprises now under her control, managed by the professional team Lu Tingzhou had arranged, she finally had the means to pursue her dreams.
If her grandfather ever woke up and saw how hard she was working, he’d surely be stunned.
Su Mo had already consulted her former colleagues about the proposal, and after two rounds of revisions, it was in good shape. The real challenge now was finding the right location.
Setting up in an office building would be too obscure, their designs needed to be showcased to clients.
They aimed for high-end private customization while also catering to the mass market.
After scouting around for two days without finding a suitable spot, the three of them slumped in frustration at a dessert shop to rest.
Qi Qi clutched her milk tea, chewing on the straw in silence for a moment before speaking up. “Sister Wan, about the investigation into Uncle Liu you asked for, there’s been some progress. He’s Liu Ma’s cousin. You knew that, right?”
“Of course. Liu Ma was the one who introduced him.”
Sang Wan set down her strawberry mousse and looked at Qi Qi. “What did you find?”
“Well, Uncle Liu has two sons. The older one runs a courier station, decently honest. But the younger one is a complete mess: drinking, whoring, gambling, drugs, you name it.”
This was the first Sang Wan had heard of it.
When Auntie Liu introduced him, she said her cousin was an honest man with two sons, the elder already married, while the younger one wasn’t. He just wanted to earn enough money to help his younger son get married while he was still able to work.
Of course, the high wages Sang Wan offered were also a big draw.
Over the years, Xu Shiming claimed to be taking care of the old man, but in reality, he just dumped him at the Zijing Nursing Home and left everything to them.
Sang Wan wasn’t comfortable with that, so she hired reliable caregivers to watch over him around the clock.
“Does Uncle Liu’s monthly salary even cover his younger son’s reckless spending?”
Su Mo frowned. Parents saddled with such a child could forget about a peaceful retirement.
“Hard to say.” Qi Qi shook her head. They were still investigating Uncle Liu’s bank transactions.
This was something the private investigator had suggested, better to be cautious and check things thoroughly.
Sang Wan felt a growing unease, recalling the way Uncle Liu had looked at her when he answered that phone call.
If it had been a normal call, why would he have been so nervous that he dropped his phone?
Could he really be hiding something?
“Dig deeper. Find out who Uncle Liu usually interacts with.”
Qi Qi nodded. “Got it, don’t worry.”
After a long day of shopping, the three of them were exhausted. Just then, Su Mo’s mother called, asking her to come home for dinner.
Seeing that it was about time, Su Mo left early.
Sang Wan thought about how Lu Tingzhou had been unusually busy these past few days, not coming home for dinner for several nights in a row.
As she was lost in thought, Qi Qi nudged her arm. “Sister Wan, look at this.”
Qi Qi’s expression was uneasy, but even if she hadn’t said anything, Sang Wan would have seen it eventually.
She pushed her phone toward Sang Wan.
The hashtag #Lu And Lin Alliance Lin Heiress Joins Lu Corp# was trending, its popularity skyrocketing.
Sang Wan bit her lip as she read the news. So that’s why he’s been so busy lately, he was setting this up.
Meanwhile, Lu Tingzhou remained blissfully unaware, still in a meeting.
This year’s performance showed only a slight increase compared to last year. While maintaining growth in a tough market was commendable, it still fell short of Lu Tingzhou’s expectations.
Lu Tingfeng lounged lazily in his chair, making snide remarks. “Now you’re in a hurry? When you spent a whole week at the film studio with that little starlet, did you ever think about the company’s performance?”
The meeting room was so silent you could hear a pin drop. Lu Tingfeng could say such things, but no one else dared.
After all, they were brothers, even if they fought, blood ran thicker than water.
Lu Tingzhou didn’t want to engage in pointless arguments in front of the company’s executives and shareholders.
Yes, he had spent a week at the film studio, but he hadn’t neglected his work.
His silence only made Lu Tingfeng think he had no defense. With a scoff, he added, “No need to panic, President Lu. Isn’t there a ready-made advantage for you to take?”
That made Lu Tingzhou look up. “If you can’t speak properly, get out.”
Lu Tingfeng gave him a sidelong glance. “Father really does plan everything for you. The Lin family is indeed a great match.”
Whispers began to spread. “No wonder Miss Lin was assigned to the executive office.”
“The Lin Corporation is a good fit, complementary to ours.”
The Lin family was involved in supermarkets, department stores, and credit services, areas where the Lu Corporation had no presence. A marriage alliance would make expanding into those sectors effortless.
Just then, Lin Hao saw the news alert on his phone and nearly blacked out.
He took a deep breath and slid the phone toward Lu Tingzhou.
Lu Tingzhou’s expression darkened instantly. “Nonsense.”
Her father was truly losing his mind, how could he let the PR department release such news directly?
What about the statement she had previously issued through the company’s official website? Did he not care about her reputation or that of the Lu family at all?
Seeing the news, Sang Wan went straight to Lu Corporation. Since she was already nearby, she decided to go up and hear what Lu Tingzhou had to say.
She even thoughtfully packed a dessert for him.
When she arrived at his office, it was empty.
Placing the dessert on his desk, Sang Wan decided to wait for him.
Her eyes inadvertently caught a deep red object tucked beneath some documents, something metallic.
Curious, she picked it up.
The words “Marriage Certificate” stood out starkly.
“Two families unite in marriage, bound by solemn vows; red threads entwine their feet, pledging devotion till white-haired old age. With this betrothal as witness and red cords as pledge, henceforth, the man shall take no other wife, nor the woman another husband. Should either break this vow, may the gods strike them down.”
The classic phrasing was familiar to Sang Wan, she had seen it in period dramas she acted in.
But the space for signatures was blank.
“Excuse me, miss, Mr. Lu isn’t here. Please leave.”
The person who entered was Lin Yao.
Sang Wan froze for a moment, recalling that she had seen her at the restaurant last Friday.
“Why are you here?”
Instead of moving, Sang Wan fired back the question.
“I’m now Mr. Lu’s personal secretary. If I’m not here, where else would I be?”
Sang Wan understood. With Lin Yao right under Lu Tingzhou’s nose, the marriage news leaked by Lu Corporation’s PR department, and Lu Tingzhou skipping meals at home these past few days, it all made sense now.
Lin Yao noticed what Sang Wan was holding and snatched it away. “Don’t touch Tingzhou’s things.”
When she saw what it was, Lin Yao inhaled sharply. “I had this made by a traditional artisan. What do you think, Miss Sang? Any suggestions? Tingzhou thought the color was too dark, but I believe this shade conveys solemnity.”
Sang Wan was stunned. They were already selecting a marriage certificate?
Did Lu Tingzhou even understand what a marriage certificate signified?
“Sorry, I have no suggestions.”
Sang Wan grabbed her bag and left immediately.
Lin Yao stared at the marriage certificate in her hand, eyes burning with jealousy.
Lu Tingzhou was already preparing a marriage certificate, secretly, no less. How deeply must he love her to go to such lengths?
And judging by the material, he likely intended to have it specially engraved. As for the final material used, it was probably beyond her imagination.
She carefully put the item back and took the dessert from the desk.
…
When Lu Tingzhou returned to the villa, the house was pitch dark.
Entering, he scanned the empty living room, assuming Sang Wan had gone out and hadn’t returned yet. He called her immediately.
The phone rang several times before being hung up. He called again, only for it to be rejected once more.
After several attempts, unease crept over him.
He drove straight to Jingyuan.
An angry little fox would surely return there.
Parking his car, he spotted the lights on in her house.
Using his fingerprint to unlock the door, he stepped inside. The living room was empty, but the sound of running water came from the bedroom bathroom.
The little fox was showering.
Exhausted, he grabbed his pajamas and pushed the door open.
“Ah!”
Sang Wan hadn’t expected anyone to barge in and let out a startled scream.
“It’s me.”
Lu Tingzhou stepped forward, stroking her head gently as he gazed at her curled up in the bathtub, his eyes tender.
Sang Wan crossed her arms over her chest, her expression guarded.
Recognizing him, she kicked up a splash of water toward him in retaliation.
“What are you doing here? Get out.”
Lu Tingzhou looked at her furious expression, completely baffled. “Why did you suddenly come back here?”
Sang Wan replied irritably, “Should I have stayed and waited for you to kick me out, or for your fiancée to chase me away?”
Lu Tingzhou was momentarily speechless. The little fox must have seen the news, this was definitely his father going too far.
“Baby, I’ll give you an explanation.”
