- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 7 - It’s All Because You Were Moving Around in the Car
Sang Wan arrived as promised, dressed in a twilight-purple qipao that accentuated her graceful, alluring figure.
Her appearance instantly drew the attention of everyone present.
Among the crowd, Xu Mingyue was affectionately clinging to the arm of the Lu family’s eldest grandson, Lu Jinxuan, smiling with gentle poise.
When she spotted Sang Wan, her smile deepened, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes, carrying instead a hint of schadenfreude.
As for Lu Jinxuan, his expression betrayed unmistakable admiration the moment he saw Sang Wan.
Her face was ethereal: three parts cold elegance, seven parts pure innocence.
It was often said that Sang Wan was a rare beauty in the entertainment industry, and seeing her in person today only confirmed that reputation. She was even more captivating and enchanting than she appeared on screen.
“Sister, you’re here,” Xu Mingyue said softly.
Sang Wan gave a faint nod, her gaze sweeping past her before settling on Xu Shiming, who stood nearby, grinning obsequiously as he fawned over Wang Sheng. Beside him was Lin Lan, her makeup immaculate, exuding an air of meek virtue.
And then there was Wang Sheng himself, his belly now even rounder than Xu Shiming’s.
Standing side by side, their profiles made it hard to tell who was older.
When Wang Sheng saw Sang Wan, his previously haughty demeanor froze, his eyes locking onto her without blinking.
Xu Shiming’s eyes narrowed into slits as he spoke with newfound confidence, “Director Wang, Wanwan rushed back last night just for this.”
Lin Lan shot Wang Sheng a sidelong glance, her eyes simmering with quiet resentment.
“Director Wang, I’ll take my leave after congratulating Shiming. The younger generation won’t feel at ease with us around.”
Wang Sheng, however, neither noticed the resentment in Lin Lan’s eyes nor heard her words, his gaze remained fixed on Sang Wan.
As Xu Shiming passed by Sang Wan, he muttered under his breath, “Keep Director Wang happy, and tomorrow you can video call the caregiver to check on your grandfather.”
Sang Wan curved her lips but didn’t spare him a glance, striding forward without hesitation.
“Director Wang, my apologies for being late!”
Lin Lan patted her daughter’s hand reassuringly as she passed by Xu Mingyue. “Everything’s ready. Seize the opportunity.”
Xu Mingyue smiled demurely, nodding with the poised grace of a well-bred young lady.
But when she turned her gaze to Sang Wan’s exquisite figure, her eyes burned with envy.
They were both women, yet some were simply blessed, their curves perfectly proportioned, their features flawlessly arranged.
It had to be said, Sang Wan was the kind of woman people whispered about as being favored by the gods.
Xu Mingyue wasn’t ugly by any means, but compared to Sang Wan, she lacked that certain allure.
And she certainly didn’t possess that breathtaking radiance.
Wang Sheng stared at Sang Wan, his lips trembling slightly. “A beauty like you… is never late.”
He tried to wrap an arm around Sang Wan’s waist, but she deftly sidestepped him.
Her eyes curved into crescents, a perfectly measured smile playing on her lips.
“Director Wang, with so many people around, I’d rather not end up on tomorrow’s headlines. Today is your birthday, there’ll be time for other matters later.”
Wang Sheng was delighted by her words.
“Miss Sang is absolutely right, absolutely right. There’s always time.”
His eyes roamed over her, itching with desire.
But as a seasoned connoisseur of women, he knew patience was key with someone like Sang Wan.
Lu Jinxuan’s gaze remained fixed on Sang Wan, so much so that he didn’t even hear Xu Mingyue calling his name twice.
Furious, Xu Mingyue glared at Sang Wan, gnashing her teeth.
Men were all the same, thinking with their heads when it came to business, and with their lower halves when it came to women. The moment they saw Sang Wan, they all reacted the same way.
But she couldn’t let all her efforts and acting these past months go to waste.
She lowered her head to conceal her emotions, then looked up at Lu Jinxuan with a gentle smile. “Jinxuan, drinking too much on an empty stomach isn’t good for your stomach. Let’s go get something to eat, or you’ll feel unwell later.”
…
After several rounds of drinks, the atmosphere was lively.
Xu Mingyue gracefully approached Sang Wan with a wine glass in hand, a faint hint of provocation playing at the corners of her lips.
“Sister, Mr. Wang was just praising me, saying Jinxuan is young and promising, that I’ve found an outstanding boyfriend.”
She paused, lowering her voice slightly, but the tone remained boastful and taunting.
“Dad really does favor you. Though your husband is a bit older, he’s good at pampering you, isn’t that right, sister?”
The “husband” she referred to was, of course, Wang Sheng.
Sang Wan’s fingers tightened slightly around her glass, her knuckles turning white, as she fought the urge to splash the red wine in Xu Mingyue’s face.
But she held back.
Her grandfather was still in their hands, she couldn’t afford to burn bridges with them now.
Taking a deep breath, she suppressed her anger and forced a faint smile. “You’re right, little sister. I understand perfectly. But not everyone can handle certain kinds of ‘blessings.’”
Her words carried a double meaning, seemingly directed at herself while also mocking Xu Mingyue.
“It seems the young master of the Lu family isn’t all that interested in you. You call him your boyfriend, but has he ever acknowledged you as his girlfriend? From what I see, things aren’t so certain.”
The implication was clear, whether Xu Mingyue could marry into the Lu family was still up in the air.
Xu Mingyue’s smile stiffened for a moment, but before she could retort, a buzzing sound came from Sang Wan’s bag.
Sang Wan glanced at her and pulled out her phone.
The next second, she froze.
This wasn’t her phone.
The caller ID displayed the name… Lin Hao.
Sang Wan’s spirits lifted instantly. Could this be Lu Tingzhou’s phone? How did it end up in her bag?
Her slender fingers swiped across the screen, and her usual sweet voice carried a trace of confusion as she answered, “Hello?”
“Miss Sang, my apologies. Mr. Lu’s phone must have accidentally fallen into your bag. I’ll come by shortly to retrieve it.”
Sang Wan blinked, then felt a pang of disappointment. “Alright!”
Xu Mingyue sneered. “Whether I can enter the Lu family remains to be seen, but I do know who’s going to be my brother-in-law.”
She pointed smugly at Wang Sheng, who was drinking heartily not far away.
Sang Wan ignored her verbal sparring, instead repeatedly glancing at the phone in her hand.
Jet black, exuding a cold aura, just like its owner, giving off an unapproachable vibe.
Such a high-quality man, who would end up with him? Thinking of Lu Tingzhou, Sang Wan felt a twinge of regret.
Just then, a tall, imposing figure strode in through the entrance.
The man wore a perfectly tailored black handmade suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and narrow waist. His demeanor was aloof and noble, radiating an intimidating presence that made it hard for others to meet his gaze.
It was Lu Tingzhou.
Sang Wan was stunned. Wasn’t Lin Hao supposed to come?
Why had he come in person?
After all, earlier in the car, he hadn’t seemed the least bit interested in her so-called uncle.
The others were equally taken aback, but after a moment of surprise, their enthusiasm surged even higher.
Wang Sheng was overjoyed, his plump face splitting into a wide grin as he hastily set down his glass and hurried forward.
“Ah! Mr. Lu! I never expected you to grace us with your presence, what an honor!”
Lu Tingzhou’s thin lips pressed together slightly as he glanced at him indifferently. “Misunderstanding.”
Wang Sheng froze, not comprehending. Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding?
Lu Tingzhou’s gaze swept casually across the room before finally settling on Sang Wan.
Wang Sheng, ever the shrewd one, immediately went over to pull Sang Wan by the hand. After she politely declined, he forcibly dragged her by the arm to stand before Lu Tingzhou.
With enthusiastic introductions, he said, “President Lu, let me introduce you, this is Miss Sang Wan, a rising star in the entertainment industry.”
A cold smirk curled at the corner of Lu Tingzhou’s lips as his gaze lingered on Sang Wan, brimming with unspoken meaning.
“My phone fell into your bag.”
The moment these words left his mouth, the atmosphere instantly turned awkward. Those nearby who had been trying to cozy up to Lu Tingzhou immediately caught the scent of gossip.
President Lu’s phone was in Sang Wan’s bag, what did that mean?
What did it imply when a man’s phone ended up in a woman’s bag?
Seizing the opportunity, Sang Wan stepped forward with a coquettish laugh, her voice sweet enough to melt bones.
“It’s all because you were fidgeting in the car, otherwise, how could it have fallen into my bag?”
Lu Tingzhou: “…”
Wang Sheng looked between the two of them and suddenly felt a shade of green creeping over his head.
Thankfully, his engagement to Sang Wan at the end of the month hadn’t been announced yet, otherwise, things would have gotten even livelier.
Lu Jinxuan, who had been playing games with a few other young masters, hurried over when he spotted Lu Tingzhou.
“Uncle, I didn’t expect you to come to Great-Uncle’s birthday banquet.”
Lu Tingzhou swept him with a glance, his expression cool and detached, his aloof demeanor carrying an unspoken authority.
“Since when did you have such a great-uncle?”
The implication was clear, he didn’t know the man.
And if he didn’t know him, why would he come?
Lu Jinxuan had always been intimidated by him. Faced with his icy stare now, he didn’t dare say another word.
The surrounding guests all turned their eyes to Wang Sheng, who had boasted about being related to the Lu family, only for the new head of the Lu family to openly declare he didn’t know him.
The only reason he had come was because his woman was here.
Wang Sheng’s face flushed red and pale in turns. Forcing an awkward smile, he said, “President Lu just returned to the country, it’s natural you haven’t met. We’ll have more chances to interact in the future.”
“Let’s not.”
His cold voice rang clearly in everyone’s ears.
Sang Wan tilted her head, looking at Lu Tingzhou with an innocent expression, though her eyes sparkled with delight. This man had a sharp tongue and didn’t spare anyone’s feelings.
Compared to how he treated others, he was practically polite to her.
Wang Sheng’s face stiffened, his lips twitching twice before he gritted his teeth and said, “Wanwan, entertain President Lu, pour him a drink. Jinxuan, escort your uncle to his seat. What a coincidence, it must be fate.”
After all, he was an old fox. Though inwardly seething, he had to maintain appearances, this was his birthday banquet, and too many eyes were watching.
Sang Wan clung to Lu Tingzhou’s arm, glancing back at Wang Sheng’s forced composure. She was thoroughly enjoying this.
Meanwhile, Xu Mingyue, standing beside Lu Jinxuan, was stunned. Since when had Sang Wan gotten involved with Lu Jinxuan’s uncle?
She had always been one step ahead of Xu Mingyue in everything. Just when it seemed she had no choice but to marry an old man, she had somehow secured an even more powerful backer.
“No need. We’re not familiar.”
With that, he turned to Sang Wan. “Give me my phone.”
Sang Wan knew better than to push her luck. His presence here was already an unexpected boon.
Obediently, she retrieved the phone from her bag and handed it to him.
Her fingers lightly brushed against his as she curved her lips into a sweet smile. “Go back first. I’ll be home soon.”
Sang Wan was clever, she didn’t immediately choose to leave with him, afraid that stepping outside would expose their act. After all, whether he’d even let her back into his car was another matter entirely.
This kind of man, if he gives you face, you should learn to take the opportunity to back down gracefully. Otherwise, the fall will be brutal.
Lu Tingzhou stared at her. If he hadn’t known her intentions and understood her so well, he might have believed every word she said was genuine.
He took the phone from her, the corner of his lips quirking slightly in a faint, ambiguous smile, a stark contrast to his earlier aloof demeanor, making it all the more suggestive.
The onlookers nearby had never dared to get too close. No matter how much they wanted to approach Lu Tingzhou at that moment, they could only hold back.
After all, they were here for Wang Sheng’s birthday banquet, and President Lu clearly wasn’t one to humor Wang Sheng.
Watching the man come and go, their hearts filled with endless regret, as if they had missed out on billions.
Wang Sheng grabbed Sang Wan’s arm and pulled her toward a relatively quiet corner.
