- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 6 - Mr. Lu, Are You in Need of a Wife?
In his thirty-two years of life, Lu Tingzhou had encountered all sorts of women who tried to throw themselves at him. But someone as brazenly shameless as Sang Wan was a first.
Of course, it was the result of his own indulgence.
Shen Yubai stood nearby, grinning as he gave a thumbs-up. “Miss Sang, your acting skills are truly impressive. No wonder you stood out.”
Lu Tingzhou shot him a glare. “Go check with the stables and see what happened with that horse.”
“Got it. I’m in the way, so I’ll leave.”
Shen Yubai cast a meaningful glance at Lu Tingzhou before walking off.
Even the toughest man couldn’t handle a persistent woman, let alone someone like Sang Wan. For some reason, he had a lot of confidence in her.
Once Shen Yubai was gone, Sang Wan became even bolder. “Mr. Lu, could you take me to the hospital? A good deed should be carried through to the end.”
Her beautiful eyes gazed at Lu Tingzhou, brimming with expectation.
Lu Tingzhou met her gaze. For three years, he had only been able to watch her from afar, hidden in the shadows. Seeing her up close like this, nestled in his arms, felt surreal.
But some things…
He composed himself and gently pushed her away. “Miss Sang, we’re not familiar with each other.”
Sang Wan: “…”
Just moments ago, he had seemed concerned about her, only to suddenly turn cold.
Taking a deep breath, she said, “First meeting strangers, second meeting friends. We’ve met twice in a row now, that counts as the second time. We can’t say we’re not familiar. Besides, we’ve already held hands and hugged…”
Lu Tingzhou frowned, feigning composure as he glanced at her delicate face before looking away.
“Sophistry.”
Seeing that he hadn’t pushed her away in anger, Sang Wan grew a little bolder, tugging lightly at his shirt.
“It’s not sophistry, every word is true. Besides, I admire you, Mr. Lu. I got hurt trying to win your favor. You should take responsibility for me.
“Otherwise, if word gets out, my embarrassment would be the least of it. It wouldn’t reflect well on you to be known as cold-hearted and indifferent.”
She lowered her eyes slightly, softening her voice with a mix of shyness and helplessness.
Though her logic was somewhat… bandit-like.
Lu Tingzhou’s temple throbbed twice.
Before he could respond, Sang Wan sniffled, her voice tinged with pleading.
“Just take me to the hospital, okay? I’m bleeding, and it really hurts!”
As she spoke, she nestled closer into his arms.
Lu Tingzhou looked at her reddened eyes and pitiful expression, at a loss for words.
Especially since her arm was genuinely injured.
When he tried to step away, Sang Wan held on tightly. “Mr. Lu, be a good man to the end!”
Lu Tingzhou exhaled sharply. “Sang Wan, how can I be a good man if you’re clinging to me like this?”
A faint, triumphant smile flickered across Sang Wan’s lips before vanishing instantly. “Thank you, Mr. Lu.”
Inside the car, Sang Wan and Lu Tingzhou sat in the back while assistant Lin Hao drove in silence.
Through the rearview mirror, he stole a few glances at Sang Wan.
One look was enough to be dazzled; a second glance revealed a rare blend of beauty and innocent charm.
For such a stunning, famous celebrity to be forced into an arranged marriage with a man in his forties…
Her father must have lost his mind. What kind of biological parent would do that to their own child?
Sang Wan didn’t speak, instead stealing occasional glances at the man beside her.
The sharp, cold lines of his profile were flawlessly defined, and the metal frames of his glasses suited him exceptionally well.
Even as he silently scrolled through his phone, his composed demeanor did nothing to diminish Sang Wan’s admiration.
A man this pleasing to the eye was a rare sight indeed.
A month ago, at the airport, just a fleeting glance had told her that this man’s bone structure and aura struck right at the heart of her desires.
After learning his identity, Sang Wan made up her mind to win him over.
As it turned out, men of his type were indeed high-difficulty targets.
She had been so proactive, yet apart from the brief warmth he showed when rescuing her earlier, the man remained as cold as a thousand-year-old glacier.
Silence stretched inside the car.
After driving for a while, Sang Wan decided to take the initiative.
“President Lu…” Her voice was soft, carrying a hint of shyness. “Actually, yesterday at the club, I… fell in love with you at first sight.”
Thinking about how firmly she had declared she wouldn’t develop feelings yesterday, her cheeks now felt a little warm.
Lu Tingzhou’s grip on his phone tightened imperceptibly, his gaze still fixed straight ahead.
“Miss Sang must be joking.”
“I’m not joking!” Her tone was resolute. “It’s as true as it gets.”
Lu Tingzhou didn’t look at her, nor did he respond further.
Lin Hao, who was driving, had been listening intently.
But in the end, the conversation fizzled out.
By the time her arm injury was treated, it was nearly six o’clock.
She hadn’t forgotten about the evening’s affairs, how was her grandfather doing? Had Xu Shiming taken good care of him?
This was what worried Sang Wan the most.
“President Lu, could you please take me to the Seaside Holiday Hotel?”
Lu Tingzhou didn’t refuse, giving Lin Hao a glance.
Sang Wan leaned against the car door, propping her chin on her hand, staring unblinkingly at Lu Tingzhou.
Beautiful people, like beautiful scenery, were mesmerizing.
Lu Tingzhou continued working through his emails, ignoring her gaze.
After a long while, Sang Wan spoke leisurely, “President Lu, to be honest… my family has recently arranged a marriage for me.”
At her words, Lu Tingzhou’s hand holding the phone paused, his eyes darkening with complex emotions.
After a moment, he replied in a deep voice, “Congratulations.”
Lin Hao frowned upon hearing those two words. Just this morning, his boss had been visibly upset upon hearing the news, so much so that he had gone to the equestrian club to vent.
Yet now, he was pretending to be unbothered.
Having worked by his side for years, how could Lin Hao not know that President Lu was a master of pretense?
Sang Wan curved her lips. “I’m not happy about it! He’s not as young as you, and nowhere near as good-looking. It’s you I like.”
Her words flowed effortlessly. Anyone else might have believed her, but Lu Tingzhou knew her too well.
Her sweet talk could melt hearts.
Lu Tingzhou gritted his teeth inwardly. “We’re not suited.”
“Then who is? Wang Sheng?” Sang Wan pouted unhappily. “Oh, speaking of which, what a coincidence, he seems to have some connection to your family. By seniority, I think you’d have to call him… uncle?”
Though Lu Tingzhou already knew this, his emotions still churned.
Xu Shiming was truly ruthless.
His own daughter, delicate as a flower, was being forced to marry someone like Wang Sheng.
Sang Wan’s eyes sparkled mischievously as she fixed her peach-blossom gaze on him, her expression teasing yet earnest.
“If I really do marry him, then from now on, you’ll have to call me… Auntie.”
The term “Auntie” made Lu Tingzhou’s brows twitch slightly.
Such an odd form of address reminded him of five years ago, of the girl who had clung to his back.
The Sang Wan before him, bright-eyed and full of playful charm, was still the one he loved most.
Sang Wan noticed the fleeting shift in his expression before he returned to his usual aloof and dignified demeanor. She sighed inwardly.
She thought to herself: The flower on the high peak is indeed hard to pluck. I’m not asking you to marry me, but at least show some interest, that way I can give myself an extra bargaining chip.
But now, with his aloof and noble demeanor, he looked like an immortal who had mistakenly wandered into the mortal world.
Not only did it make Sang Wan unable to stay angry, but it also piqued her interest even more.
Summoning her courage, she slowly approached.
Lifting her slender, fair arm, she draped it over his strong one, her red lips drawing close to his earlobe.
A warm breath brushed against him, fleeting and light.
“President Lu, after being held by you, I’m even more certain, I don’t want to be your aunt.”
She leaned in closer, lowering her voice, her tone laced with ambiguity.
“Rather than being your elder, I’d much rather be your… her.”
Her breath carried the sweet fragrance of gardenias, brushing past Lu Tingzhou’s ear.
“President Lu, are you in need of a wife?”
For a moment, Lu Tingzhou’s Adam’s apple bobbed involuntarily, a surge of heat coursing through his body, threatening to boil over.
This woman was truly a bewitching vixen.
Her soft, coquettish voice always seemed to test the limits of his restraint.
This feeling was utterly unfamiliar.
When no response came from the man, Sang Wan raised her watery eyes and gritted her teeth to ask softly, “President Lu, do you think I’d do?”
Her voice grew even sweeter and softer with each word.
Lin Hao, sitting in the driver’s seat, felt his back stiffen more and more. Glancing at the rearview mirror, he couldn’t help but admire his boss’s self-control.
Unmoved even with a beauty in his arms, truly a modern-day Liu Xiahui.
After a long pause, Lu Tingzhou replied coldly, “Of course not.”
Sang Wan deflated instantly, shooting him a resentful glare before shifting slightly away.
She had been so forward, so shameless, yet he remained as unapproachable as ever.
Two days of throwing herself at his cold indifference, and not only had she made no progress, but she’d also gotten hurt in the process.
The pride of a top-tier celebrity was severely bruised.
Silence filled the rest of the ride.
Lu Tingzhou glanced at her pouting and puffed up like an angry blowfish.
When the car stopped in front of the Seaside Holiday Hotel, Sang Wan placed her handbag between them and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
Taking a deep breath, she composed herself for two seconds before rising with a coquettish smile already on her face.
“Thank you, President Lu, for bringing me here. It would’ve been a shame to miss my ‘fiancé’s’ birthday party.”
The woman who had just been flirting with him now seemed like a completely different person, her eyes sparkling, her smile enchanting.
Lu Tingzhou gave a slight nod but said nothing.
Not one to back down, Sang Wan added, “Don’t worry, President Lu, this little episode is over. From now on, you’ll still be my dear nephew. When I get married, I hope you’ll grace us with your presence and share a toast.”
She was genuinely frustrated. After all her efforts, this man hadn’t budged an inch.
Was it really impossible to live without him?
Lin Hao’s heart pounded wildly. What kind of uncle was Wang Sheng anyway? Miss Sang was practically grinding President Lu’s pride under her heel.
With that, she blinked at Lu Tingzhou and, without waiting for a response, strode off in her high heels, feigning nonchalance.
If she couldn’t reel him in, she’d let him go for now. A month was plenty of time maybe another solution would present itself.
Her pride was worth something too, after all.
Sang Wan consoled herself, though inwardly she was seething. If there had been any other way, she wouldn’t have resorted to seducing Lu Tingzhou.
Of course, there was also that tiny, inexplicable thought she couldn’t quite grasp.
“President Lu, shall we return to Jingyuan?”
Lu Tingzhou didn’t answer. Instead, he rolled down the window, lit a cigarette, and sat silently in the car, smoking.
The night fell, and a thin wisp of smoke curled up before the lenses, dissipating into the air.
The hotel was ablaze with lights.
Wang Sheng’s birthday banquet was in full swing.
As a relative of the Lu family, he had thrived in Shenzhen’s business circles over the past two years, riding on the family’s prestige.
His forty-fifth birthday celebration was extravagantly lavish.
How Xu Shiming managed to latch onto Wang Sheng, Sang Wan didn’t know.
But in Shenzhen, there were plenty who sought to curry favor with the Lu family.
To ingratiate himself with Wang Sheng, Xu Shiming had “spared no effort”, less than two months after the man’s divorce, he had handed her over to him.
Such a father was a rare breed in this world.
