- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 5 - Trying to Hook Him
Lu Tingzhou turned his head at the sound, his gaze behind the lenses settling on her, flickering with a momentary daze before gradually deepening.
Shen Yubai, on the other hand, let out a low whistle, his peach-blossom eyes dancing with amusement as they darted between her and Lu Tingzhou.
Then, puzzled, he asked, “Miss Sang, is this fate between you and me, or… him?”
Shen Yubai raised a hand to gesture at the man beside him, his eyes fixed on Sang Wan.
Sang Wan gave Shen Yubai a polite nod before turning her gaze back to Lu Tingzhou. Her lashes lowered slightly, a hint of bashfulness in her expression.
“I… came specifically to see President Lu.”
Lu Tingzhou’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. The little fox had finally told the truth this time, admitting she had come deliberately.
“What is it?”
His tone was indifferent, his eyes not even glancing her way.
Shen Yubai’s eyebrows knitted together in disapproval. This guy deserved to stay single, who talked to a beautiful woman like that?
Especially when it was Sang Wan, the dream girl of countless men.
“It’s about the rear-end collision last night. You know, as a public figure, if this isn’t handled properly, someone with ill intentions could blow it out of proportion.”
Sang Wan twirled her riding crop between her fingers, forming half a flower in her palm, the tassel brushing lightly against Lu Tingzhou’s riding boots as she gazed up at him with pleading eyes.
Obedient and innocent!
Lu Tingzhou turned his head, meeting the shimmering depths of her peach-blossom eyes, which sparkled brilliantly under the sunlight.
Her cheeks were flushed, a faint sheen of sweat glistening on the tip of her nose.
Though it was late summer, the lingering afternoon heat was still intense.
“I trust President Lu’s integrity. Please be merciful.”
She toned down her earlier obedient demeanor, making her request earnestly.
Shen Yubai, unaware of the situation, sighed after hearing Sang Wan’s explanation. “So, that’s what happened. I thought you were trying to hook him.”
Sang Wan’s heart skipped a beat at the remark, but her expression remained pure and innocent.
Lu Tingzhou held the reins in one hand while methodically smoothing the horse’s mane with the other, his eyes still avoiding her.
“A private settlement is fine. Contact my assistant, he’ll handle everything.”
The implication was clear: such a trivial matter wasn’t worth his time.
Sang Wan’s smile froze for a split second.
Even Shen Yubai could tell she was trying to hook him. As the person involved, Lu Tingzhou must have sensed it even more keenly, how could he not understand?
This man was clearly shutting her down.
Sang Wan took a deep breath, suppressing the frustration in her chest, and forced an elegant smile.
“Such a small matter really isn’t worth bothering President Lu. It’s just…”
She refused to give up. She couldn’t “die before even setting out”, she had to fight a little.
Besides, the man before her was so handsome!
No matter how she looked at it, this was a win-win.
Shen Yubai watched the scene unfold with great interest, nudging Lu Tingzhou lightly with his elbow.
“Tingzhou, you’re being so unromantic, she came all the way here for you. Besides, we’re all friends. Exchange contact info and hang out sometime.”
“Miss Sang, I’ll tell you-”
Shen Yubai caught the warning look in Lu Tingzhou’s eyes and immediately pocketed his phone.
After shooting him a glance, Lu Tingzhou gripped the saddle and swung himself onto the horse with practiced ease.
Looking down at Sang Wan from his elevated position, his demeanor remained aloof.
“Miss Sang, you should leave now.”
With that, he lightly nudged the horse’s flank, and the black steed strode gracefully toward the center of the riding field.
Under the sunlight, his upright silhouette and commanding presence on horseback were breathtakingly handsome.
Sang Wan stared at his retreating figure, momentarily entranced. She couldn’t help but feel that this man ticked every box for her as if he were tailor-made for her heart.
“Miss Sang, excuse me for a moment.”
Shen Yubai gave Sang Wan a playful glance, a helpless smile playing at his lips.
“President Shen, considering how sincerely I’ve endorsed your products, can’t you give me a little hint?”
Snapping back to reality, Sang Wan blocked Shen Yubai’s path with her arm, adopting a stance that clearly said, “You’re not leaving until you talk.”
Shen Yubai raised an eyebrow. “Ask away, I’ll tell you everything I know. Well, except for contact details.”
“How chivalrous of you, President Shen.”
Sang Wan curved her lips and got straight to the point. “Does he like men?”
“You’re interested in him?”
“I have a bit of a crush.”
Adhering to the principle of honesty, Sang Wan wore a serious expression.
“So you really want to reel him in?”
Sang Wan chuckled. “Don’t make it sound so crude. It’s admiration.”
Shen Yubai studied her for two seconds before smirking. “Rumor has it he once had a woman, but I’ve never seen her.”
Sang Wan frowned, pouting unconsciously. “That’s as good as saying nothing. There are plenty of rumors out there.”
“Don’t get impatient, little sister,” Shen Yubai teased with a mischievous grin. “Big brother will give you something reliable, he definitely doesn’t like men.”
With that, he tilted his chin at her. “Good luck!”
Sang Wan watched the figure galloping across the field, biting her lip discreetly. If he didn’t like men, then she had a chance.
Being buddies with men wasn’t her style.
Romance and love scenes, she’d acted them out in dramas, so she had some experience.
With that thought, she swung herself onto the horse.
Shen Yubai caught up to Lu Tingzhou, exclaiming, “That girl’s something else, gentle yet fierce, straight to my heart. Too bad her taste is off. She ignores someone as outstanding as me and goes for an iceberg like you.”
Lu Tingzhou shot him a glare before dismounting. His gaze darkened as he watched the slender figure racing across the field, his fingers tightening around the reins.
Her riding skills were taught by him, of course they wouldn’t be bad!
The memory of her mischievous, timid yet stubborn demeanor from back then remained vivid.
And that kiss that had made him lose control.
On horseback, she had sat facing him, her delicate arms wrapped around his neck, her soft voice whispering warmly in his ear.
“Lu Tingzhou, slow down…”
She had wanted to learn to ride but refused to do it properly, insisting on sitting face-to-face with him.
He had seen right through her little scheme but never called her out on it.
Under the pretense of fear, the little troublemaker had wreaked havoc around his neck.
Then, as if by accident or perhaps not, she tilted her head up and perfectly landed a kiss on his Adam’s apple.
Stimulated by the tingling sensation, he had kissed her for the first time.
Under the sunlight, both of them panting, Sang Wan’s flushed cheeks were unforgettable but even more so were her lips.
Glossy and temptingly plump from his kisses.
Shen Yubai noticed his gaze following the figure on horseback and egged him on. “Hey, Sang Wan’s not bad, a real gem. Three years in the industry, impressive achievements, and not a single scandal. Give it a try, maybe-”
Lu Tingzhou snapped out of his thoughts, the tips of his ears tinged with a faint blush, his posture rigid.
“If you’re not riding, we can leave.”
Shen Yubai was used to his infuriating demeanor.
“You’re just out of balance, yin and yang all messed up. Listen to me, find a woman to spice things up, and I guarantee you’ll feel refreshed all over.”
Lu Tingzhou ignored him, his eyes locking onto the smiling face that galloped past.
Sang Wan gloated inwardly, Lu Tingzhou was watching her.
She had thought her riding skills were decent, perhaps enough to impress him.
Who would have thought that the horse she chose had only recently been tamed? It ran well for the first two laps but then started acting up, refusing to move no matter what.
Sang Wan gently flicked it with her whip, but the horse snorted sharply, suddenly rearing up on its hind legs with a loud neigh.
“Ah!”
Caught off guard, Sang Wan tilted to one side, her clothes snagged on the saddle.
After the horse’s long cry, it suddenly surged forward at full speed.
This is it, this is it, Sang Wan thought in despair. She hadn’t even managed to reel anyone in, and now she might lose her life instead.
“Tingzhou, save me!”
The familiar name slipped out without thinking.
At that moment, Lu Tingzhou was already sprinting toward the out-of-control horse.
The fear and panic in Sang Wan’s voice snapped Shen Yubai out of his daze, and he hurried after them.
As the chestnut horse charged forward, Lu Tingzhou crouched low and darted toward it, reaching for its neck.
“Tingzhou, it’s dangerous!”
Shen Yubai barely had time to shout before Lu Tingzhou grabbed the reins and yanked hard.
He was dragged forward by the force.
Shen Yubai rushed to help, and together, the two men managed to rein in the runaway horse.
The moment Sang Wan lost her balance, Lu Tingzhou caught her firmly, pulling her safely from the panicked horse.
The world spun.
Sang Wan only felt a tight grip around her waist before she tumbled into a solid, secure embrace.
The crisp scent of pine filled her nose.
The horse was still neighing restlessly, but she was safely cradled in Lu Tingzhou’s arms, shielded at his side.
Still shaken, Sang Wan instinctively clung to his arm, pressing her cheek against the stiff fabric of his riding jacket.
“Wah…”
The terror and grievance of a near-death experience surged through her, and she began to sob quietly.
“You scared me to death, Lu Tingzhou. I thought I was going to die.”
Tears blurred her vision as she looked up, meeting a pair of deep, shadowed eyes.
Even behind his glasses, those eyes…
That familiar feeling again!
Complex, restrained.
As if she’d seen them somewhere before.
They seemed to resemble the profound gaze from her dreams…
“Are you hurt?”
Lu Tingzhou’s voice was hoarse as he quickly pushed her slightly away to examine her.
When he saw the bright red blood on Sang Wan’s arm, his previously calm demeanor shattered, and he scooped her up into his arms.
“I’m taking you to the hospital.”
Sang Wan, tear-streaked, blinked up at him in surprise. Was he actually worried about her?
Seems like her efforts were paying off. A little injury was worth it.
“It hurts so much!”
She wrapped her arms around Lu Tingzhou’s neck, her tearful, nasal voice sounding especially pitiful.
Lu Tingzhou stiffened slightly at her touch.
The warmth in his arms was something he hadn’t felt in a long time, and those glistening eyes were exactly as he remembered.
Afraid of pain, quick to cry!
Shen Yubai watched in astonishment. Lu Tingzhou was actually flustered?
The man who was always so composed was actually flustered!
All these years, he hadn’t so much as had a female animal near him, let alone held a woman like this.
And now he’d risked his life to save her? Interesting!
Following behind, Shen Yubai teased, “Tingzhou, she hurt her arm, not her foot!”
Hearing this, Lu Tingzhou’s expression darkened. Realizing his actions, he paused and slowly set Sang Wan down.
“Your assistant should be around. Have her take you to the hospital.”
Just when she thought she’d made progress, this meddling crow had to ruin it.
“Mr. Lu, I feel dizzy!”
Sang Wan’s voice was soft and sweet as she clung to his collar, refusing to let go.
The man’s nose was glistening with a sheen of sweat, his handsome features becoming even more vivid, no longer the rigid and stern expression he usually wore.
Lu Tingzhou adjusted his glasses with a hand, looking down at the delicate Sang Wan with a slight frown.
“Call your assistant. Have her come pick you up.”
His voice had regained some of its usual coolness, but now carried a hint of hoarseness.
Sang Wan, however, acted as if she hadn’t heard, gripping him even tighter and pressing her body closer to his.
“My assistant isn’t here. She went to get the car fixed, there’s a huge dent in the front. It looks so ugly.”
As she spoke, she gestured exaggeratedly, though her fox-like eyes still stole glances at Lu Tingzhou’s expression.
Lu Tingzhou: “…”
