- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 59 - The Truth
Lu Tingzhou’s heart swelled with joy, this was her granting him official recognition.
The man suppressed a smile, his lips quirking slightly. “For an ‘unworthy’ person like me, thank you, Professor Sang, for giving me a name.”
The private room fell into stunned silence. Xiao Yan, unfazed, simply chuckled knowingly, while Song Zixi’s expression turned ashen.
Sun Qian, who had just been about to take her seat, froze in shock.
How could it be Lu Tingzhou?
Hadn’t Song Zixi said that Lu Tingzhou might very well become her brother-in-law in the future?
Sang Wan glanced at Sun Qian from the corner of her eye, a faint smirk playing on her lips, a hint of smug satisfaction.
Slapping someone in the face should always be timely and effective.
Meanwhile, at the film studio.
Shen Yubai was pestering Su Mo to act as his tour guide.
He had come here to have fun, but that guy only had eyes for women, leaving him to wander around aimlessly. The whole trip felt utterly pointless.
Just then, he spotted Su Mo buying milk tea at a street corner and walked over.
“Hey, little girl, show me around the film studio.”
Su Mo rolled her eyes. “Mr. Shen, we’re not that close.”
“I’ll pay, tour guide fees,” Shen Yubai stated bluntly.
Su Mo’s eyes lit up. “How much?”
Shen Yubai scoffed. “Money-grubber.”
He pulled out his phone and transferred 250 yuan to her.
Su Mo glanced at the notification and immediately scowled. “You look exactly like that number.”
With that, she refunded the money, sipped her milk tea, and walked away.
Shen Yubai raised an eyebrow and resent 500 yuan this time.
Su Mo blinked, turning to look at him. “The great Mr. Shen is only worth this much?”
Her shrewd eyes studied him for a few seconds before she resumed walking.
Shen Yubai, now thoroughly provoked, felt a surge of competitiveness.
Oh, this girl.
He immediately transferred another 1,000 yuan. “Your rates are higher than a professional’s.”
Su Mo glanced at the transaction record, her lips curving into a smile as she accepted both payments, 1,500 yuan for one evening, just to stroll around the film studio? Totally worth it.
“Now we’re talking,” she said with satisfaction, pocketing her phone. “Alright then, Mr. Shen, where do you want to go?”
The film studio itself was a massive tourist attraction, lined with rows of ancient-style buildings, its nightscape dazzling.
The two wandered aimlessly, the aroma of various street foods filling the air, mingling with the lively chatter of the crowd, creating a uniquely vibrant atmosphere.
Su Mo’s eyes sparkled as she dragged Shen Yubai into the throng.
Skewers, stinky tofu, takoyaki…
Su Mo ate with relish, her usual sharp-tongued fierceness nowhere to be seen.
To her surprise, even someone like Shen Yubai wasn’t overly fastidious, he showed genuine interest in the street food and even fought her for bites.
For once, the two were oddly in sync.
…
Early the next morning, business matters forced Lu Tingzhou and Shen Yubai to leave.
Though Sang Wan was reluctant, she knew he couldn’t stay forever.
Just as she was feeling down after seeing him off, a message arrived.
Thinking it was from Lu Tingzhou, she hurriedly grabbed her phone to check.
Instead, it was from an unknown number. Puzzled, she tapped it, only to freeze at the words on the screen.
[Miss Sang, do you really not remember the truth behind your mother’s death?]
Her mother had died in a car accident. Though she couldn’t recall the details, the police report had clearly stated the culprit was a truck driver.
Sang Wan quickly steadied herself, though her fingers trembled slightly as she typed: [Who are you?]
[Who I am doesn’t matter. What matters is that I want you to know the truth. Meet me at the café by the film studio’s north gate at 3 p.m.]
Sang Wan looked at the message on her phone, feeling an inexplicable unease in her heart.
When the agreed-upon time finally arrived, she didn’t hesitate and headed straight to the café.
As she pushed the door open, she saw someone already seated in the corner booth.
Song Xinran.
Dressed in an elegant high-end suit, her makeup flawless, her long hair cascading gently over her shoulders, she was stirring her coffee with a quiet grace.
Hearing the noise, she looked up, her eyes locking with Sang Wan’s.
“Miss Sang, please have a seat.”
At the sight of her, Sang Wan froze in her tracks.
She had never expected it to be Song Xinran. How did she know about her mother’s car accident?
“Surprised?” Song Xinran pressed her lips together. “Actually, our fates have been intertwined since three years ago.”
Sang Wan was even more confused. They had crossed paths three years ago?
Song Xinran tilted her chin slightly. “Miss Sang, sit down.”
Sang Wan pulled out the chair opposite and sat.
She didn’t speak, simply watching Song Xinran in silence.
“I know you might think I have ulterior motives right now.”
Song Xinran chuckled lightly, setting down the small spoon in her hand.
“And I admit, your appearance caught me off guard and disrupted my life.”
Her tone was calm, betraying no emotion.
Sang Wan parted her red lips, cutting to the chase. “Get to the point. My time is limited.”
As if oblivious to the impatience in her words, Song Xinran remained unhurried.
“Miss Sang is a smart woman, so I won’t beat around the bush.”
She leaned forward slightly, enunciating each word clearly for Sang Wan to hear.
“Leave Lu Tingzhou.”
At this, the smile on Sang Wan’s lips deepened, laced with mockery.
“Miss Song, on what grounds?”
“Because your fiancé died because of him, and he’s burdened by guilt and a sense of responsibility?”
With every word Sang Wan spoke, the smile on Song Xinran’s face faded a little more.
Song Xinran curved her lips into a faint smile. “What you’ve mentioned is indeed my leverage. The Lu family patriarch values loyalty. Back then, he promised to take care of me and my son. All these years, Tingzhou has honored that promise, wherever he goes, my child and I follow.”
The subtle boast sent a pang of bitterness through Sang Wan’s heart. But she also knew Lu Tingzhou would never touch Song Xinran, no matter the reason.
“Miss Song, guilt and responsibility might make a man want to compensate you, but they won’t make him love you. Even if the Lu family agrees to let you in, Lu Tingzhou will never lay a finger on you. I’m sure you’re aware of that.”
It was as if Song Xinran had been struck where it hurt. The smile vanished from her face instantly.
Of course she knew. But she believed that as long as she secured the title of Mrs. Lu, she would be bound to Lu Tingzhou for life.
Entangled endlessly, until death.
A man that exceptional, someone she had longed for all this time, had finally brought her to this point. How could she possibly give up now?
At this thought, she shook her head and smiled as if resigned. “Miss Sang, you are quite clever. But do I care about any of that? As long as I can stay by his side, what does it matter if he touches me or not?”
Sang Wan had nothing to say. What Song Xinran wanted was different from her own desires.
Or perhaps, Song Xinran simply had more patience for the long game.
“Miss Song, be direct. I’m not interested in your thoughts. If Lu Tingzhou truly intends to marry you, I won’t be the other woman.”
“Then I’ll cut to the chase.” Song Xinran’s gaze suddenly sharpened. “If, after hearing what I have to say, you still insist on clinging to Lu Tingzhou, then I’ll have nothing more to say.”
Sang Wan held her breath slightly as she stared at Song Xinran. Perhaps it was intuition, but she felt a tightness in her chest.
“Miss Sang, I heard that after your mother passed away, you fell seriously ill and lost some of your memories. So today, I’m kindly telling you the truth.” Song Xinran paused.
Seeing Sang Wan’s unblinking gaze fixed on her, she curved her lips and spoke. “Your mother’s death is related to Lu Tingzhou.”
Though her intuition told her that Song Xinran’s words wouldn’t bode well for her relationship with Lu Tingzhou, hearing this still made her go deaf in an instant.
All the sounds of the world faded away, leaving only the sight of Song Xinran’s lips moving.
Her heart clenched violently, making it hard to even breathe.
After a long while, she finally managed to speak, her voice trembling. “What… nonsense are you talking about?”
The shakiness in her voice was something even she could hear.
Song Xinran looked at her instantly pale face, a fleeting trace of satisfaction flashing in her eyes.
“Nonsense?”
She took out a manila envelope from her Hermès bag and slid it across the table to Sang Wan.
“Miss Sang, do you remember the exact circumstances of your mother’s accident that day?”
Sang Wan’s fingertips were ice-cold, gripping the edge of the table tightly.
She didn’t remember.
That car accident was the greatest nightmare of her life. The doctors said she had post-traumatic stress disorder and had selectively forgotten the most painful parts.
All she knew was that the sun had been shining brightly that day, and her mother had waved at her with a smile.
“Wanwan, Mom’s right here…”
Before she could finish, there was a loud “bang,” followed by a flood of red overwhelming her mind.
Song Xinran seemed to see through her daze, her voice laced with sorrow.
“That day, my fiancé, Sheng An, was supposed to drive Lu Tingzhou to an important business meeting.”
“But Lu Tingzhou, in a rush to meet someone, asked Sheng An to change routes.”
“At the intersection outside the east gate of Jing University, Sheng An turned right and collided with a truck that was turning left.”
“A large truck swerved sharply to avoid their car.”
Song Xinran paused, her gaze locked onto Sang Wan as she cruelly delivered the final truth.
“Then, the out-of-control truck crashed into the roadside… where the person waiting for you, your mother, was standing.”
Sang Wan’s pupils constricted violently.
Lu Tingzhou, the man who had made her heart flutter, was indirectly responsible for her mother’s death?
“Don’t even think about lying to me.” Sang Wan’s voice suddenly rose, sharp with the edge of impending breakdown. “Why should I believe a word you say?”
“Why would I lie to you?” Song Xinran’s eyes reddened abruptly, her voice choked with emotion.
“Sang Wan, I admit, I’m jealous of you. I want Lu Tingzhou for myself. But in this matter, I haven’t spoken a single false word.”
“Because in that accident, it wasn’t just your mother who died. My fiancé was also killed.”
“My son has never known his father since the day he was born!”
Her emotions surged, every word ringing with unmistakable sincerity.
Sang Wan’s heart sank inch by inch into an abyss, a chill rising from her feet straight to her brain.
Song Xinran took a deep breath, steadying herself before regaining her usual composure.
“Think about it carefully.”
“Do you really think Lu Tingzhou’s kindness to you is love? It’s nothing more than guilt, compensation for what he owes you.”
She stood up, looking down at the bloodless face of Sang Wan.
“Open it and take a look. This is the accident investigation report for Sheng An. Location, date, time… I think you should know it better than I do.”
With that, she walked out of the café in her high heels, a cold smirk curling at the corners of her lips.
