- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 102 - Tired Tonight?
Sang Wan thought to herself, How could I not be anxious? In another two months, this belly will be impossible to hide.
If she hadn’t seen the marriage certificate in his office, she might have been genuinely worried. But after seeing it, she knew Lu Tingzhou must have his plans. By the time his birthday came around, telling him about the baby wouldn’t feel too rushed.
“Why should I be anxious? I’m young and beautiful, surrounded by handsome guys everywhere. I haven’t even had my fill of fun yet.”
Lu Tingzhou frowned at her carefree attitude. “Are you calling me old?”
“Wouldn’t dare. Just stating facts.”
Lu Tingzhou didn’t bother bantering further and simply instructed, “Change your outfit. Later, you’ll dazzle them all.”
Sang Wan pinched his tall, straight nose. “No need to change, I can outshine everyone as I am. Besides, I should match your steady, composed style. No need to be too flashy and steal the spotlight.”
“Tonight, your only responsibilities are to look stunning and eat well.” Lu Tingzhou tapped her nose lightly and nudged her toward changing.
Unable to refuse, Sang Wan picked out a truffle-blue qipao from her suitcase: elegant, refined, and subtly alluring.
Lu Tingzhou couldn’t resist pulling her into an embrace, lowering his head to kiss her.
Sang Wan pressed a finger against his chest. “Don’t touch me. My makeup’s freshly done, you’ll smudge my lipstick.”
His large hand lingered at her waist, tracing its slender curve. He loved the way it felt when his hands settled there.
…
Arm in arm, Sang Wan and Lu Tingzhou entered the banquet hall, instantly drawing every gaze.
Sun Meixi’s eyes blazed as she watched the graceful woman.
Lu Jinxuan watched them with undisguised admiration. He genuinely envied his uncle, capable, shrewd, and impossibly handsome.
And now, he’d found a girlfriend who was one in a million.
He wished he could find someone like Sang Wan, someone who turned heads and left people breathless.
But alas, there was only one Sang Wan in the world.
Sun Meixi noticed her son’s awestruck expression and smacked his arm lightly. “Have some dignity. You’re practically drooling.”
Tang Qinlan clicked her tongue inwardly. No wonder the third son has repeatedly defied the old man, even threatening to strike out on his own. A woman like this…
If not for that ultimatum, the old man wouldn’t have backed down.
Knowing Sun Meixi’s sore spot, Tang Qinlan smirked. “Eldest sister-in-law, Sang Wan is even more striking than her mother. It’s only natural Jinxuan would be drawn to her.”
Sun Meixi shot her a glare. “Is the second brother still seeing that little secretary of his?”
Tang Qinlan: “…”
Two years ago, Lu Tingfeng had hired a young, beautiful secretary. They’d been together for a year before Tang Qinlan found out. After a huge fight at the start of the year, Lu Tingfeng claimed he’d fired her.
But the ties hadn’t been fully severed.
Sun Meixi knew this and was deliberately needling her.
Everyone knows how to twist the knife, there’s no limit to how cruel you can be.
Lu Tingzhou guided Sang Wan to their seats. Noticing his arrival, Lu Tingfeng wrapped up his conversation and joined them.
Sang Wan sat calmly beside Lu Tingzhou, taking the seat to Lu Jinxuan’s left without sparing a glance at Sun Meixi or Tang Qinlan.
As Lu Tingzhou had said, her only tasks tonight were to look beautiful and enjoy the food.
Of course, if anyone dared to ruin her mood, she wasn’t one to take it lying down.
The moment she sat, Lu Jinxuan poured her a glass of juice and couldn’t help but praise, “Sis Wan, you’re stunning. I’m seriously jealous of my uncle now.”
Sang Wan smiled faintly. “Thanks. You’re quite handsome yourself.”
As the company’s CEO, Lu Tingzhou had to give a brief speech. He gave Sang Wan’s hand a reassuring squeeze, signaling her not to worry.
Sang Wan nodded. Was she nervous?
No. Apart from Lu Jinxuan, these people had all bullied Lu Tingzhou. How could she possibly be nervous? She couldn’t stand them fast enough.
She turned her head to look at the man standing tall, his sharp brows and star-like eyes commanding attention, and her gaze sparkled with admiration.
[“Good evening, everyone. I won’t say much today, just a heartfelt thanks for your perseverance and breakthroughs! Tonight, let’s toast to the passion of the past and to us, who never stop moving forward! Drink freely and relax for the next two days.”]
The man on stage was radiant, flawless. Sang Wan knew the hardships he had endured to get here and cherished his achievements all the more.
She watched as he stepped onto the stage and welcomed him as he approached.
Under his intense gaze, she once again felt how incredibly fortunate she was to have Lu Tingzhou.
If her mother knew how deeply she loved him, she would surely bless them.
Lu Tingzhou sat down, but Sang Wan was still staring at him in a daze. He couldn’t help but give her hand a light pinch, leaning in to whisper in her ear, “Mind your image. You can stare all you want after dinner, back in our room.”
Sang Wan’s face warmed, and she pressed her lips together in a soft laugh.
Sun Meixi and Tang Qinlan were seeing the two of them interact like this for the first time, and they couldn’t help but marvel inwardly.
The third young master seemed like a completely different person around Sang Wan.
Especially Sun Meixi, who glared at Sang Wan with undisguised hatred.
“Miss Sang, you really don’t mind, do you? Even though your biological father isn’t-”
Lu Tingzhou turned his sharp gaze on her. “Eldest sister-in-law, think carefully before you speak. Some words are better left unsaid, for your own good.”
Sang Wan pressed her lips together. “I think so too. If you were smart, you wouldn’t bring it up. I haven’t come after you, so you should keep your head down. Instead, you’re provoking me. Do you really find it glorious that your own husband doesn’t love you?”
Sun Meixi: “…”
She hadn’t expected her foolish son to actually tell Sang Wan where Lu Tingyuan was.
Of course, she also knew this tactic wouldn’t buy her much time, Lu Tingyuan had already told her that Sang Wan wasn’t his.
For now, with Lu Tingzhou present, she chose to shut her mouth, much to Tang Qinlan’s delight.
Sun Meixi had always acted high and mighty around her, flaunting Lu Jinxuan’s favor. And because the old master forbade any mention of Lu Tingyuan, Tang Qinlan had been forced to swallow her anger.
Now, seeing Sun Meixi humiliated, she felt a surge of satisfaction.
“Eldest sister-in-law, this is Tingzhou’s first time bringing a girlfriend home. We should be polite to her, after all, she’ll be joining our family soon.”
Her words were like rubbing salt in Sun Meixi’s wounds. Sun Meixi gritted her teeth. “Are you stupid? Tingyuan and Tingfeng share the same mother. If you want to pick a fight with me, at least read the room.”
Lu Tingzhou paid her no mind, picking up food for Sang Wan instead. “You haven’t had much of an appetite lately. See if there’s anything you like, eat more.”
Hearing this, Sun Meixi realized Lu Tingzhou probably still didn’t know about Sang Wan’s pregnancy. There might still be a chance.
“Mom, you should eat too. Stop targeting Little Uncle, we’re doing just fine as we are.”
She shot a glare at her son, gnashing her teeth. If Lu Tingzhou had stayed abroad, she might have given up the fight. But now that he was back, things were different.
Especially since he was investigating the car accident from four years ago.
With no leverage left, she couldn’t even sleep peacefully.
Fortunately, Sang Wan was Lu Tingzhou’s weakness. If it ever came to that, she might just be the bargaining chip Sun Meixi needed.
As if afraid their presence would sour the mood, Lu Tingzhou continued serving Sang Wan while issuing a warning. “Jinxuan, you’re an adult now. You need to get up to speed with the company’s affairs quickly. And as for the whispers at home, learn to distinguish which ones to listen to and which to ignore.”
Lu Jinxuan nodded. “Don’t worry, Uncle. I know what to do.”
Lu Tingzhou glanced at him, placed the shrimp he had picked up onto Sang Wan’s plate, then turned his gaze to Lu Tingfeng.
“Second Brother, have you heard about what happened at the company today?”
Lu Tingfeng paused mid-bite, his eyes narrowing slightly before he continued eating. “Oh, I heard. I even suggested the security department inspect all the circuits.”
“As for the mole, I don’t plan to look for them anymore. But negligence isn’t the fault of just one person, so all responsible managers will receive termination notices on Monday. Though the missing files weren’t company secrets, the fact that something was stolen from my office, if word got out, it would be a laughingstock.”
“Third Brother, you-”
“Does Second Brother have an objection?”
Lu Tingfeng hadn’t expected Lu Tingzhou to be so ruthless. Those were all his trusted subordinates. Because of one misstep, he had essentially shot himself in the foot.
Lu Jinxuan spoke up then. “I think Uncle made the right call. The nature of this incident is too serious.”
Sun Meixi shot him a glare. “Eat your food. This isn’t your place to speak.”
Sang Wan pressed her lips together. “Jinxuan understands the bigger picture. But the person who stole my manuscript was so stupid, they made it so obvious. Utterly idiotic.”
Lu Tingfeng had already disliked her, and now, hearing her insult like this, he was furious and resentful, yet he couldn’t vent his anger.
Though he hadn’t personally stolen the manuscript, he was the one who had arranged it.
Lu Tingzhou pursed his lips. “Jinxuan, consider this a lesson for you. If you lack the brains, then work diligently. Being foolish yet unwilling to accept it will only make you lose the big for the small.”
Lu Tingfeng scoffed coldly. Though he refused to admit it, there was nothing Lu Tingzhou could do to him.
Still, it pained him to lose so many of his trusted aides.
Sang Wan had spent the entire evening navigating veiled attacks and hidden barbs, leaving her physically and mentally exhausted.
Lu Tingzhou was still socializing, so after finishing her meal, she excused herself and returned to the room.
Only a dim floor lamp illuminated the space.
After showering and changing into the hotel’s soft bathrobe, Sang Wan sank into the sofa, exhaling deeply.
She was tired, utterly drained.
She sent a message to Qi Qi, instructing her to mail the test report to Xu Shiming.
Just as she finished chatting with Qi Qi, the door card beeped softly, and Lu Tingzhou walked in.
He took off his suit jacket, draping it casually over the back of a chair, loosened his tie, and strode straight toward her.
The faint scent of alcohol from the banquet still clung to him, mingling with his own crisp, clean aura, enveloping her completely.
He didn’t turn on the lights, simply walking behind her and bending down to encircle her in his arms from behind.
His chin rested against the crook of her neck, his warm breath ghosting over her sensitive skin.
“Tired tonight?”
His voice was low and rough, carrying a trace of barely concealed concern.
Sang Wan closed her eyes, leaning her full weight against his solid chest.
“A little.”
Her voice was soft and sweet, almost like a coquettish murmur.
Lu Tingzhou chuckled quietly but said nothing more, only holding her tighter.
One hand slipped beneath the hem of her robe, settling against her flat stomach.
The heat of his palm was startlingly intense.
Sang Wan shivered slightly.
“Lu Tingzhou…”
Her voice trembled faintly at the edges.
His lips brushed against her earlobe, teasing and lingering.
“Hmm?”
His response was muffled as his kisses trailed downward, skimming the elegant curve of her neck before settling on her delicate collarbone.
The sash of her robe had loosened at some point without her noticing.
The dim lighting cast shadows as the temperature in the air steadily rose.
Lu Tingzhou swept her up into his arms and carried her toward the wide double bed.
Gently laying her down, his tall frame followed, hovering over her, yet he braced himself on his arms, careful not to press his full weight onto her.
Their eyes met.
His gaze, under the muted glow, burned like twin flames, swirling with the familiar heat of desire and an obsessive possessiveness she knew all too well.
“Wanwan.”
His voice was rough as he called her name.
Thinking of the burdens he carried, the calculated affection from those around him, Sang Wan felt a pang of heartache.
How had he endured it all alone before? Compared to him, she had been far more fortunate.
Once, she had her mother and grandfather to dote on her. Now, she had Lu Tingzhou.
A bittersweet ache welled up inside her as she lifted her hand, tracing the sharp contours of his face.
Her fingertips brushed over his brows, his eyes, the proud bridge of his nose, and finally lingered on his tightly pressed lips.
