- Chapter 103 - Please You
“I’m here.”
She responded to him, her voice soft yet carrying a power that soothed everything.
The next second, his scorching lips pressed heavily against hers.
This kiss was unlike his usual plundering, it carried an indescribable tenderness.
He kissed her deeply, fiercely, as if he wanted to devour her whole, to meld her into his bones and blood.
All the unease, all the anger, all the restraint of the day poured into this kiss.
Sang Wan bore his intense emotions, responding clumsily.
Her hands slid down from his cheeks, gripping the sheets beneath him tightly.
Only when both were breathless did he finally pull away slightly.
Forehead resting against hers, he panted heavily.
“Thank goodness you’re by my side.”
He looked into her eyes, speaking word by word, his gaze filled with unconcealable sorrow.
“Tingzhou, some feelings can’t be forced. Don’t push yourself, you’ve already been more than kind to them.”
A glimmer of moisture welled up in the corners of Sang Wan’s eyes. They had set traps and barriers for Lu Tingzhou at every turn.
Yet Lu Tingzhou had never truly sought to retaliate. The dividends they were owed, the profits they deserved, he withheld nothing.
Even now, he had the means to force Lu Tingfeng out of the game entirely, but he hadn’t done so.
He still clung to that shred of familial bond they so carelessly dismissed.
She lifted her head and kissed his lips on her own initiative.
Lu Tingzhou lay atop Sang Wan, breathing in her scent, unmoving for a long while.
Sang Wan, worried he might crush her stomach, nudged him. “Go take a shower. You reek of alcohol.”
Lu Tingzhou kissed her cheek. “I’ll go shower.”
By the time he returned, Sang Wan was already asleep.
He chuckled softly. Why had she been sleeping so soundly lately?
…
The next morning, dawn broke.
Outside the window, the sky was a hazy gray-blue, carrying the crisp, watery chill unique to lakeside mornings.
When Lu Tingzhou woke, the person beside him was still deep in slumber.
Sang Wan slept soundly, her long, curled lashes casting delicate shadows under her eyes, her breathing even and slow.
Propping himself up on one elbow, he watched her quietly for a long time.
Last night, the barbed words from Sun Meixi and Tang Qinlan had unsettled her. Though her spirits were low when they returned, she had still mustered the energy to comfort him.
His sharp-tongued but tender-hearted little fox.
He leaned down and pressed a feather-light kiss to her forehead.
“Mmm…” Sang Wan murmured, turning over in her sleep.
Lu Tingzhou chuckled, recalling how she had been sleeping more and more lately, his gaze softening further.
Careful not to disturb her, he rose quietly to handle some urgent emails.
By the time Sang Wan woke naturally, rubbing her eyes as she sat up in bed, Lu Tingzhou had already changed into casual clothes.
“Awake?” He set down his tablet and walked toward her. “Go freshen up. We’re heading out.”
Still groggy, Sang Wan blinked. “Where to? Didn’t you say the company outing was today, going to the mountains to see the snow?”
“Not anymore.” Lu Tingzhou pulled her out of bed and nudged her toward the bathroom. “I’m taking you somewhere special.”
Half an hour later, when the car stopped at a serene and exquisite lakeside resort, Sang Wan finally understood where this “special place” was.
This wasn’t the bustling lodge the company had booked, but a small, private retreat.
The sapphire-blue lake stretched like a mirror, reflecting the distant mountain peaks still crowned with pristine, unmelted snow.
The air was filled with a crisp, refreshing scent, beautiful as a painting.
Sang Wan was lost in the scenery when she noticed Lin Hao stepping out of another car, handling the check-in arrangements.
Puzzled, she tugged at Lu Tingzhou’s sleeve.
“You brought Lin Hao along on our trip?”
She lowered her voice, “What if something comes up at the company? With both you and him gone, is that appropriate?”
Hearing this, Lu Tingzhou pulled her into his embrace, wrapping her in his coat to shield her from the chill.
He lowered his head, brushing his nose against hers, his voice deep and soothing.
“Today, let’s not overthink it.”
“Just enjoy ourselves, alright?”
The two strolled along the pebbled path by the lake.
The wind was strong, lifting Sang Wan’s long hair.
Lu Tingzhou paused, carefully adjusting her woolen hat before winding the thick scarf around her neck, leaving only her bright, sparkling eyes visible.
Once finished, he casually removed one of her gloves.
“Huh?”
Before she could react, his warm hand enveloped her slightly chilled fingers, firmly tucking them into the pocket of his overcoat.
Inside the pocket, it was snug and warm.
His palm was dry and strong, holding her hand entirely, the heat radiating steadily.
Sang Wan pressed her lips together, stealing a glance at him.
The man’s profile remained stern, his gaze fixed ahead as if he had done the most ordinary thing.
Yet Sang Wan’s heart was utterly melted by this silent gesture.
Lu Tingzhou never spoke flowery words, but he always expressed his clumsy yet profound love in the most direct and simple ways.
A mischievous thought crossed Sang Wan’s mind.
She cleared her throat, tilting her face up to look at him. “Lu Tingzhou.”
“Hmm?”
“Shout ‘I love Sang Wan’ loudly a couple of times here.”
Lu Tingzhou halted mid-step, as if hearing something absurd, turning to frown at her.
“I’m not insane.”
Sang Wan pouted, rising on her tiptoes to get closer. “Expressing love isn’t insanity. Haven’t you seen how they do it in dramas?”
Lu Tingzhou looked at her sparkling eyes, his expression clearly saying, Are you stupid?
“Isn’t my love for you obvious enough?” he retorted matter-of-factly.
Sang Wan deliberately furrowed her delicate brows, dragging out her words. “Is it? I don’t feel it.”
No sooner had she spoken than Lu Tingzhou suddenly leaned in, his warm breath brushing against her ear.
His voice dropped to a husky whisper, sending shivers down her spine.
“If I didn’t love you, would I let you play with my things and eat whatever you want?”
Sang Wan’s face flushed instantly.
This man…
Before she could retort, his next words were even more provocative.
“If I didn’t love you, would I… please you?”
Sang Wan felt her ears burning. How could he say something so bold in broad daylight?
Embarrassed and flustered, she pushed against his chest. “Lu Tingzhou, have you no shame?”
Instead, he pulled her fully into his arms, locking her waist in an unyielding embrace.
Gazing down at her flushed, indignant face, his eyes brimmed with amusement and overwhelming tenderness.
“I love you.”
He finally said it.
Not a shout, but in an exceptionally clear and solemn tone, word by word, spoken just for her to hear.
“You can hear it, feel it, and others can see it too.”
Sang Wan was momentarily speechless, caught off guard by his words.
Yes, his love had never been something he flaunted with words.
Instead, he shielded her with his actions.
Her heart melted into a pool of spring water.
She buried her face in his firm chest and murmured a soft “Mm” in response.
The two lingered by the lakeside for a long while. Sang Wan, gazing at the glass house on the water, grew excited. “Let’s go to that glass house. Sitting inside and enjoying the lake view must be amazing.”
The curtains of the glass house opposite were drawn tightly, making it impossible to see inside.
Lu Tingzhou’s eyes darkened, a faint smile flashing at the corner of his lips. “Let’s take a stroll first. We’ll go there in the evening, the stars will make it even better.”
Sang Wan thought it made sense and, linking her arm with his, walked forward before settling down in a pavilion by the lake.
Just then, a staff member approached with a tray. “President Lu, this is what you requested.”
Lu Tingzhou gave a slight nod. “Thank you.”
Sang Wan pursed her lips and smiled. “What’s inside?”
Lu Tingzhou raised an eyebrow. “What you were craving in your dreams last night.”
Sang Wan was puzzled. “I talked in my sleep?”
“Not only that, but you drooled a lot too.”
Seeing the deadpan expression on the man’s face, Sang Wan flushed with embarrassment, recalling the first time she had shared a bed with Lu Tingzhou.
Her sleeping habits were terrible. Though she had gone to bed properly, she woke up sprawled on top of him, his chest soaked with her drool.
The look on Lu Tingzhou’s face at the time had been indescribable.
While others might wake up blushing and flustered after their first night together, she had been nothing but awkward and mortified.
Seeing that she had clearly taken his words to heart, Lu Tingzhou decided not to tease her further. He lifted the lid on the tray, revealing an assortment of candied haws, traditional tanghulu, in various flavors.
Hawthorn, strawberry, cherry tomatoes, Chinese yam beans, and even green grapes, all kinds.
“So, I really did talk in my sleep? Otherwise, how would you know I wanted these?”
She had indeed been craving something sweet and sour these past few days.
Picking up an authentic candied haw skewer, she took a bite and was instantly satisfied.
After eating one herself, she held another out to Lu Tingzhou’s lips. “Try one too.”
Watching her delighted expression, Lu Tingzhou opened his mouth and took one, his eyes brimming with affection.
…
As night fell, the lake shimmered with scattered reflections, and stars dotted the sky.
Back in their room, Lu Tingzhou handed her a gift bag as if performing a magic trick.
“Go change into this.”
Sang Wan took it, perplexed, and pulled out a champagne-colored haute couture gown. “There’s still an event?”
Lu Tingzhou smiled mysteriously and pointed toward the glass house in the middle of the lake, now glowing with warm light.
“There’s a gift waiting for you there. You’ll need to open it yourself.”
Sang Wan chuckled dismissively. “Just opening a gift, do I really need to dress up so much for it?”
“It’s about the sense of ceremony,” Lu Tingzhou insisted, pinching her cheek lightly. “Go on. After you change, we’ll open the gift and then enjoy the stars from there.”
Sang Wan found his insistence on “ceremony” both exasperating and amusing, dressing up so formally just to unwrap a gift. But she couldn’t refuse him and took the dress into the bathroom.
A few minutes later, when she stepped out, the admiration in Lu Tingzhou’s eyes was nearly overflowing.
The champagne-colored silk gown accentuated her jade-like fair skin, while her graceful curves sent his heart fluttering.
He stepped forward and draped a white cashmere shawl over her shoulders, his voice husky as he said, “Let’s go, my little princess.”
The term “princess” made Sang Wan blush slightly. Linking arms with him, she followed the softly lit glass corridor leading to the glass pavilion at the center of the lake.
The further they walked, the more uneasy Sang Wan felt.
