- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 101 - Eager to Become Mrs. Lu
He pulled her into his embrace, resting his chin atop her head, and let out a sigh.
The sigh carried both anger and self-reproach.
Pressing his lips together, his voice came out hoarse.
“Wanwan, you lost your manuscript in my office.”
“This isn’t just your problem anymore.”
His arms tightened around her, holding her even closer. “I can tolerate many things, but targeting you, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”
This was his bottom line, and also his weakness.
Sang Wan knew this matter wouldn’t be left unresolved.
She comforted Lu Tingzhou, saying, “Actually, I should change my habits too. I’ll buy a drawing tablet so I can upload my work in real time, that way, this won’t happen again.”
She had always loved the sound of pencil scratching against paper, as if she could feel a design growing from nothing into existence.
Her mother had once told her that when the hand follows the heart, that was when a designer was at their best.
She pulled back from Lu Tingzhou’s embrace and smiled. “I’ll start drawing now. I can finish it before noon.”
Her smile was light, as if she hadn’t been affected at all.
Lu Tingzhou felt a pang of guilt, he hadn’t protected her well enough, letting her suffer this grievance.
In the office, only the soft scratching of pencil on paper remained.
Lu Tingzhou sat back at his desk, not disturbing her. Suppressing his emotions, he turned to his own work.
At ten o’clock, just as Sang Wan was immersed in the details unfolding under her pencil, her phone buzzed beside her, the screen lighting up.
It was a call from Su Mo.
She tapped the speakerphone button without thinking.
Su Mo’s furious voice instantly shattered the quiet of the room.
“Damn it, Wanwan! That Song Xinran has no shame! She opened a studio right across from ours, how disgusting is that?!”
“They’re hanging the sign right now, and I heard they’re opening next Monday. She’s clearly here to challenge us, isn’t she?!”
Song Xinran?
Sang Wan frowned, her fingers pausing mid-stroke.
She glanced at Lu Tingzhou before speaking calmly. “Momo, stay calm. In business, competition is inevitable.”
“But this is way too obvious! I feel like she’s been spying on us, how else could it be such a coincidence?”
“Let her be. As long as she doesn’t come provoking us, we’ll ignore her.”
After hanging up, Sang Wan met Lu Tingzhou’s probing gaze.
He wheeled his chair over to her.
“You opened a studio too?”
His eyes darkened as he studied her. “Keeping it from me while building your career, were you planning to hide it from me forever?”
Sang Wan’s heart skipped a beat.
Oh no. Lu Tingzhou was angry.
She set down her pencil and lifted her delicate face, a mix of guilt and defiance in her expression.
“What do you mean, keeping it from you…” she muttered under her breath.
“It’s just… I opened a fashion studio. I’m planning to build my own brand.”
Lu Tingzhou’s expression froze for a moment.
He stared at her, his dark eyes swirling with unreadable emotions.
She had quietly done so much on her own?
And he had known nothing about it.
An inexplicable frustration rose in his chest.
He hated this feeling of losing control.
Even more, he hated that she had kept things from him.
“Where?”
His tone gave nothing away.
Sang Wan squirmed slightly under his gaze and answered honestly.
“Qixia Road.”
After a pause, she added with a touch of self-deprecating resignation.
“From now on, I’ll be competing head-to-head with Song Xinran.”
Qixia Road…
Song Xinran…
Lu Tingzhou recalled how Song Xinran had approached him earlier, saying she wanted to open a studio but was having trouble with the storefront and paperwork, asking for his help.
Damn. His heart clenched, a wave of guilt washing over him.
If the little fox found out that he had asked Lin Hao to help Song Xinran secure the storefront, that he had personally handed Song Xinran a knife, helping an outsider block her path…
He could practically foresee it: kneeling on durian at home would be the least of his punishments.
Though his mind was in turmoil, his expression remained calm and composed.
He raised his hand, his thumb gently stroking Sang Wan’s cheek, his tone laced with a hint of disdain.
“She’s just copying the surface of what you do, and she thinks she can stand on her own?”
The corners of Lu Tingzhou’s thin lips curled into a mocking smile.
“Since when can a student topple her master? Besides, she’s not even qualified to be your student.”
His words were both reassurance and flattery.
Sang Wan, predictably, was appeased, her mood lifting as she nodded in agreement.
“Exactly, just a clown jumping around. I’ve never taken her seriously.”
With that, she leaned in and kissed him.
Lu Tingzhou hadn’t expected such a reward for a few compliments. Without hesitation, he cupped her face and deepened the kiss.
Having been rejected by the little fox for days under the excuse of exhaustion, Lu Tingzhou had been suffering. Now, with such a golden opportunity, there was no way he’d let it slip away.
The faint, sweet fragrance of the woman, subtle notes of rose with a citrus-like undertone, drifted into his senses, intoxicating him.
Lu Tingzhou felt himself teetering on the edge of control.
One hand gripped her wrist while the other wrapped around her waist, pulling her effortlessly onto his lap.
It all happened so naturally, so fervently, that Sang Wan barely had time to react before she was nestled in his arms.
The next second, she felt a large hand slip beneath her cashmere sweater.
The rough pads of his fingers against her smooth skin sent a shiver down her spine.
Knock, knock, knock.
Three sharp raps on the door snapped Sang Wan back to reality.
“Lu… Lu Tingzhou, s-someone’s here.”
Her voice was breathless, soft and alluring between gasps.
Lu Tingzhou ignored her, continuing to kiss her.
Knock, knock, knock.
The knocking grew louder.
Sang Wan pushed him away forcefully. “Control yourself.”
Lu Tingzhou smirked, biting his lip lightly.
Sang Wan shot him a glare, wiped the smudged lipstick from his mouth, and headed to the bathroom in the lounge to freshen up.
“Come in.”
The man’s voice was thick with irritation.
Lin Hao entered, his expression grave.
“President Lu.”
He strode to the desk, lowering his voice as he approached.
“Speak.”
The icy edge in Lu Tingzhou’s tone puzzled Lin Hao. Why does he seem even angrier?
Not daring to delay, Lin Hao quickly reported, “We’ve confirmed that Vice President Lu was indeed working late at the company last night.”
“However, around the five-minute window when the surveillance was down, he wasn’t in his office. Elevator footage shows he came up from the lobby.”
Lu Tingzhou inhaled sharply, the displeasure in his voice slightly subdued. “Understood.”
“No need to investigate further. I have a handle on this.”
Just then, Sang Wan emerged from the lounge, having tidied herself up.
Lin Hao nodded. Of course, he understood too.
He glanced at the lines Sang Wan had redrawn, pressed his lips together, and spoke again.
“Also, Xu Shiming has been detained by the police for five days, but he refuses to admit to deliberately switching the medication, dumping all the blame on the caregiver Liu Zhiqiang.”
“He claims that Liu Zhiqiang acted on his own to switch the medication for the old man, just to collect payment from both sides, him and Miss Sang, so he could keep earning from them.”
This kind of excuse was something Sang Wan had anticipated long ago.
From the moment Liu Zhiqiang suddenly committed suicide, she knew he had become the scapegoat Xu Shiming was pushing forward to take the fall.
Lu Tingzhou turned his head slightly, watching her with concern, afraid she might be upset.
Sang Wan sat down calmly, a faint, icy smile curling at the corners of her lips.
“It’s fine,” she said lightly. “We’ll take our time playing with him.”
“When he gets out of jail, I’ll give him a big gift.”
Her voice was soft, but the smile on her lips carried a chilling edge.
“Then, we’ll quietly enjoy the show of dogs biting dogs.”
Lu Tingzhou looked at her, at those peach-blossom eyes that should have been filled with stars but now resembled a frozen lake.
He didn’t say anything, just reached out and wrapped his hand around her cold fingertips, pulling them into his palm.
…
Evening.
The fading glow of sunset dyed the horizon in shades of orange and red.
Employees of Lu Corporation were cheerfully boarding luxury coaches bound for the resort villa in the neighboring city.
Sang Wan sat with Lu Tingzhou in his Maybach, tilting her head slightly as she watched the cityscape flash past the window.
“Still thinking about the drafts?”
Lu Tingzhou held her with one arm while his other hand covered hers, gently kneading her fingers.
“No.”
Sang Wan snapped out of her thoughts and turned to him, her eyes curving into crescents as she smiled brightly.
“Just a few sketches, they can’t ruin my mood.”
She leaned in and planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Starting now, vacation mode. I’m completely relaxed.”
Her initiative and sweetness were like a beam of warm sunlight, dispelling the gloom in Lu Tingzhou’s heart.
As he gazed into her clear eyes, the restlessness in his chest gradually settled.
This company retreat, he actually had other plans for it, so he really shouldn’t let anything affect him.
Those people at home had never been able to stop him from doing what he wanted.
Sang Wan was the woman who would step openly into his life.
This matter concerned no one else.
And required no one else’s approval.
At that thought, the tension in his jaw softened, and a faint smile tugged at the corners of his lips.
Two hours later, the car smoothly pulled into the mountainside resort villa.
The villa was built into the hills, boasting breathtaking scenery, especially after the snowfall from a couple of days ago. Sitting by the fireplace and admiring the snowscape was pure bliss.
Lin Hao was already waiting at the entrance, efficiently organizing the employees’ check-ins.
Lu Tingzhou held Sang Wan’s hand as they walked toward the lobby, only to be met by a group of people approaching them.
At the front were Lu Tingfeng and his socially adept wife, Tang Qinlan.
Behind them were Lu Jinxuan and Sun Meixi.
Sun Meixi hadn’t originally planned to come.
But the moment she heard that Sang Wan would be accompanying Lu Tingzhou, she immediately changed her mind.
Who did this outsider think she was, getting comfortable as if she were already the lady of the Lu household?
“Tingzhou, it’s been so long since you’ve come home. Father keeps mentioning you during meals.”
Tang Qinlan wore a polished smile, her gaze sweeping over Sang Wan, the kind of look reserved for appraising merchandise.
Sang Wan met her eyes without flinching, a faint smile on her lips, poised and unruffled.
Lu Tingzhou’s expression remained unchanged, only tightening his arm around Sang Wan’s waist slightly.
“Second sister-in-law shouldn’t thank me. If I came back every day, would you still have an appetite?”
He glanced sideways at Tang Qinlan, his gaze briefly sweeping over Sun Meixi before leading Sang Wan inside with his arm around her.
Back in their room, Sang Wan shook her head. “Tonight’s dinner probably won’t be pleasant.”
Lu Tingzhou pressed his lips together, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind. “Don’t worry. Just eat whatever you like. I’m here.”
“I’m afraid you won’t be able to handle the bickering between women.”
“Not necessarily. If it really comes to it, I’ll just use my authority, after all, the power is in my hands.”
Sang Wan turned to look at him. “How impressive, President Lu.”
Lu Tingzhou lightly pecked her lips. “I won’t let you suffer any losses.”
Sang Wan pursed her lips, her delicate brows furrowing slightly. “I do feel like I’m at a disadvantage. I don’t even have a proper title, yet I’m already caught in sister-in-law conflicts.”
Lu Tingzhou frowned and pulled her back into his embrace. “In a hurry to become Mrs. Lu?”
