- He Lost Control with Jealousy — What Happened to Being Untouchable?
- Chapter 100 - When You're Angry, I Get Scared
The night was as dark as ink, with neon lights flickering.
Outside the gates of Lu Corporation, Lu Tingzhou leaned lazily against his black Maybach, a cigarette between his fingers, a faint weariness etched between his brows.
Pale smoke curled from his thin lips, blurring the sharp angles of his profile, adding an alluring mystique to his presence.
As Sang Wan stepped out of the elevator, she spotted him immediately, the man waiting for her amidst the swirling smoke.
Her heart softened instantly.
After not seeing him all day, she couldn’t help but smile, nearly breaking into a jog toward him. The sharp, hurried clicks of her heels against the ground echoed her eagerness.
Like a young swallow returning to its nest, she threw herself into his arms, brimming with joy.
“I missed you so much.”
Her muffled voice, laced with a hint of a whine, nuzzled against his chest.
Lu Tingzhou instinctively tightened his arms, pulling her petite frame closer, while swiftly moving the cigarette away with his other hand.
“Careful, don’t burn yourself.”
A faint trace of tobacco drifted into Sang Wan’s nose.
Her delicate brows furrowed slightly before she abruptly pulled away from his cool embrace.
The movement was small but resolute.
Lu Tingzhou froze, a flicker of confusion passing through his deep-set eyes.
Sang Wan covered her nose and took a small step back, hesitation flashing in her beautiful peach-blossom eyes.
“Can you not smoke around me from now on? I don’t like the smell of cigarettes lately.”
“Hmm?”
Lu Tingzhou studied her, puzzled, but obediently stubbed out the cigarette in the nearby ashtray. “You never minded before?”
Sang Wan frowned. “That was then, this is now.”
“I really don’t like the smell anymore,” she added, her tone tinged with grievance.
Truthfully, she didn’t actually dislike it, Lu Tingzhou’s cigarettes weren’t ordinary. They carried a faint, cool aroma, not unpleasant at all.
But tobacco was still tobacco, and it wasn’t good for the baby.
“Alright.”
He agreed without hesitation.
Stepping forward, he pulled her back into his arms and pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
“I won’t smoke anymore.”
His promise slipped out effortlessly.
All her displeasure vanished in an instant.
Inside the car, the heater was turned up high.
Sang Wan leaned against the passenger seat, watching the man’s focused profile as he drove, her heart swelling with contentment.
After driving for a while, she suddenly sat up straight, as if remembering something.
“Oh no!”
Lu Tingzhou kept one hand on the steering wheel and glanced at her. “What’s wrong?”
“My design drafts,” Sang Wan said, worry creeping into her expression. “I left them on your desk in a hurry and didn’t put them away.”
She always took photos of her sketches after finishing them, but today, she hadn’t photographed the three new designs or stored them properly.
She had been too excited after receiving his call and rushed out immediately.
Lu Tingzhou pressed his lips together, freeing one hand to cover hers and giving it a reassuring squeeze.
“Don’t worry. My office isn’t accessible to just anyone, and no one would dare go through my things.”
“Besides, Lu Corporation’s security is tight. The hallways are monitored, nothing will happen.”
The absolute confidence in his voice instantly put her at ease.
Right… who would dare cause trouble in Lu Tingzhou’s domain?
…
The next day was bright and sunny.
Sang Wan, in high spirits, stayed close to Lu Tingzhou all day. After work in the afternoon, she would be joining him for a company team-building event.
She was quite looking forward to it, having never participated in such activities before, and wondered if it would be fun.
Moreover, she wanted to see how her man interacted with his subordinates in a relaxed setting.
Although she had the complete manuscript ready, she still needed to start mixing colors on the drawing board, so her workload for the day wasn’t light.
This would be the step that truly breathed life into these designs.
With a cheerful heart, she walked over to the office chair that belonged to her.
The next second, the smile on her face froze inch by inch.
The desk was empty.
Aside from the brushes and spare paper she had used the day before, not a single one of the design drafts, each carrying her inspiration and hard work, remained.
Sang Wan was completely stunned, her mind blank for a moment.
How could this be?
Four days of work, ten designs, two series, “I Like You” and “Secret Crush”…
Every detail, every line, had been painstakingly drawn by her hand.
How could they just disappear?
Though she could recreate the first version, she could certainly produce a second.
But the fact that the drafts had vanished without a trace in Lu Tingzhou’s office was chilling in itself.
Just then, the office door was pushed open.
Lu Tingzhou had been stopped by a department manager at the entrance for a brief conversation and only now entered.
The moment he stepped in, his eyes met Sang Wan’s bewildered gaze. “What’s wrong?”
The person who had been so happy just moments ago now looked as if she’d seen a ghost.
“Lu Tingzhou.”
Sang Wan seemed to find her anchor. She rushed over, grabbed his arm, and spoke in a low voice, “My drafts are gone.”
She pulled him to the empty corner of the desk.
“Last night, all my drafts were stacked right here, a whole pile. Now, not a single one is left.”
She was worried about her drafts, but even more so about Lu Tingzhou. This was his office. If someone had stolen commercial secrets, wouldn’t that spell trouble for him?
“Quick, ask if the cleaning staff might have mistaken them for scrap paper and thrown them away?”
Lu Tingzhou stared at the pristine desktop, the warmth in his eyes instantly replaced by a cold, ruthless sharpness.
The daily cleaning of his office was never entrusted to ordinary janitorial staff.
Only personnel specifically assigned by the executive office had access.
He wrapped an arm around Sang Wan’s trembling shoulders, giving her a reassuring pat, then picked up the internal phone and dialed.
His voice was icy, devoid of any warmth.
“Have the person responsible for cleaning my office yesterday and today come up immediately.”
The person on the other end of the line shivered at the frost in his tone and hurriedly agreed.
In less than a minute, the executive office manager arrived with a young woman in her early twenties, both trembling with fear.
“P-President Lu.”
The girl kept her head down, not daring to meet his eyes.
Lu Tingzhou wasted no time, his gaze sharp as a blade, piercing straight through her.
“Were you responsible for cleaning my office yesterday and today?”
“Y-yes, P-President Lu.”
The girl’s voice was barely audible. She glanced at Lu Tingzhou and immediately lowered her head again, clearly terrified by his icy demeanor.
“Did you see a stack of fashion design drafts?”
At his question, the girl’s head jerked up. She had been clueless about what had gone wrong, but now she understood.
She shook her head frantically. “No, yesterday after work when I came to clean, Miss Sang was asleep. I moved very quietly and didn’t go near her.”
“When I came in to clean this morning, this desk looked exactly the same as it does now, no design drafts.”
She looked on the verge of tears from fright.
Lu Tingzhou stared at her without speaking.
The atmosphere in the office was suffocatingly tense.
Sang Wan, seeing how terrified the girl was, also felt she didn’t seem to be lying.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. I can just redraw them.”
After a moment of silence, Lu Tingzhou said in a low voice, “Go ask around each department first, see if anyone working late last night noticed anything.”
The matter was no longer simple, but he still wanted to find the drafts for Sang Wan, after all, they were her hard work.
After everyone left, Lu Tingzhou called Lin Hao.
“Go to the security department and pull up all surveillance footage from last night at six o’clock until now.”
Once the call ended, the CEO’s office was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
The oppressive aura around Lu Tingzhou was palpable.
Sang Wan stood beside him, even her breathing unconsciously softened.
Though she could redraw the drafts, the fact that they had gone missing from Lu Tingzhou’s desk spoke volumes about the severity of the situation.
Time passed slowly, each second feeling drawn out.
Lu Tingzhou stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his lips pressed into a thin line.
“Don’t rush. Take your time investigating. The drafts can be redrawn.”
Sang Wan stepped forward and hugged him. “It’s just a small thing.”
Lu Tingzhou wrapped his arms around her in return, the coldness around him easing slightly. “It’s just that the slap to the face was too direct, it stings a little.”
Sang Wan couldn’t help but purse her lips to suppress a smile. Even now, he was still thinking about his pride.
Just then, the office door was knocked, and Lin Hao entered.
He didn’t even dare to look at Lu Tingzhou’s face, quickly stepping forward. “Mr. Lu.”
Lu Tingzhou didn’t respond, his deep, unfathomable eyes silently fixed on him.
The wordless pressure was more unnerving than any interrogation.
Lin Hao steeled himself and reported.
“Last night… one minute before Ms. Sang left, the company’s surveillance system malfunctioned.”
He paused, then forced himself to continue.
“For about five minutes, there was no surveillance footage.”
Blank.
The word struck Lu Tingzhou like a hammer to the chest.
His fists clenched instinctively.
Similarly, Sang Wan tightened her grip on Lu Tingzhou’s arm.
Lu Tingzhou frowned. “Reason?”
“Security said the server’s power plug in the equipment room came loose. It was reconnected and restored to normal.”
A mocking smile curled at the corners of Lu Tingzhou’s thin lips.
A loose power plug?
The top-tier security system of Lu Corporation could be paralyzed for five minutes because of a loose plug?
So coincidental, so precise.
This was clearly targeted at Sang Wan.
Nothing else was missing, just her design drafts.
Lin Hao didn’t dare to breathe too loudly.
Lu Tingzhou’s dark eyes bore into him. “Keep investigating.”
“Check all visitor logs from yesterday. No outsiders are to be overlooked, including acquaintances and relatives.”
He paused, his voice growing colder.
“Also, check Vice President Lu’s movements yesterday, find out when he left the company.”
Lin Hao’s heart skipped a beat.
“Yes.”
As Lin Hao turned to leave, the administrative director knocked and entered.
“Mr. Lu, when we were asking around downstairs, the cleaning lady mentioned she saw some fashion sketches while disposing of waste paper.”
Sang Wan brightened. “And the sketches?”
“She threw it into the shredder as scrap paper.”
The light in Sang Wan’s eyes dimmed. She had known it was gone for good.
“Everyone, get back to work.”
As Lin Hao and the administrative supervisor left, Lu Tingzhou’s handsome face was shadowed by a gloom she had never seen before.
This was targeted at her, and it wasn’t hard to guess who was behind it.
Lu Tingzhou had probably figured it out too. Someone who knew the company inside out and timed the surveillance blackout perfectly couldn’t have acted alone.
But she didn’t want him to clash with his family over her.
Sang Wan understood him.
This man might appear cold and unyielding, but he valued family more than anyone.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have spent all these years tolerating their pressure, letting the first and second branches of the family push him into a corner, without ever truly striking at their foundations.
Rising on her tiptoes, she gently pressed her soft fingers against the deep furrow between his brows.
“Lu Tingzhou.”
Her voice was tender, soothing.
“It’s okay. I can redraw them.”
She forced a lighthearted smile, her beautiful peach-blossom eyes shimmering with warmth.
“Really, it’s just three drafts. I’ll finish them quickly.”
“When you get angry, it scares me.”
Lu Tingzhou lowered his gaze, taking in the cautiousness in her clear eyes and the poorly concealed ache beneath.
It wasn’t that she didn’t care about her hard work.
She just cared about him more.
The softest part of his heart was pierced.
