Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 71
“Wen Youren, I am your mother! You carry my surname; you should have been born to serve me!” Wen Yiyue shrieked, her voice tearing with desperation.
Shi Qin said flatly, “I assume you called the police. It will take them a while to get here. Whatever you choose to do in the meantime, I will keep your secret.”
Shi Wangui followed closely behind. “Shi Qin, do you think you can escape this? Harboring a fugitive is a crime. I have already reported you.”
Shi Qin laughed. “When did I harbor anyone? I called the police as well. Would a normal person harboring a criminal keep them tied up with ropes?”
“Shi Qin!” Wen Yiyue roared in disbelief. “I have followed you for so many years! Why are you doing this to me?”
Wen Yiyue had become Shi Qin’s mistress shortly after her husband died. People insulted her back then, but she didn’t care because Shi Qin didn’t love his wife either. Later, when his wife died, Wen Yiyue thought her wait was over, only to find that Shi Qin still refused to marry her. Not only that, she discovered he had many other women. She endured it for several more years before she was finally allowed into the family. After everything, he was now personally handing her over to the police.
Shi Qin crossed his legs and sneered. “I admit you’ve been with me the longest, but that isn’t enough to make me sacrifice everything for you.”
Shi Wangui looked at them with disgust. “See that? That is his true face.” She felt a wave of disappointment. Why wasn’t Shi Qin the one being wanted today? Scum like him didn’t deserve to live in this world.
Wen Youren pulled Shi Wangui behind her. She wasn’t sure when the police would arrive or if Shi Qin had others helping him. Shi Wangui’s safety came first.
Wen Yiyue, tied to the chair, let out a cold laugh. After all these years, her own daughter had found the evidence to send her away. “Wen Youren,” she hissed, “someone like you will die a miserable death and go straight to hell. You helped an outsider against me. Your father was a waste, and so are you—a waste who likes women.”
Seeing Wen Youren’s fists clench, Shi Wangui stepped forward and stroked her hand, whispering, “She’s going to get the death penalty for murder. Just wait for the police to take her.”
Painful memories flooded back to Wen Youren. Tears welled in her eyes and fell as she struggled to stay calm. “What about you?” Wen Youren said tonelessly. “You cheated on my dad when you were with him, didn’t you? With the same person who helped you cover up the murder. You clung to Shi Qin for money even while Wangui’s mother was still alive, shamelessly throwing yourself at him.”
They had only found this out recently. Wen Youren’s father had died years ago, but Wen Yiyue had been involved with someone else immediately. Through investigating former employees, they realized that person was Shi Qin. It was impossible to know if Shi Wangui’s mother had known, or if her sudden passing was influenced by it.
Wen Youren hated that she shared blood with this woman—a woman who destroyed her father, her lover’s family, and everyone around her.
“No matter how much you hate me,” Wen Yiyue laughed, “you can’t escape the fact that I am your mother. How do you think you survived? I’m the one who raised you.”
Shi Qin stood up and suddenly untied the ropes binding Wen Yiyue. He stepped back and returned to his seat.
The moment she was free, Wen Yiyue lunged at Wen Youren, her hands clawing at her throat. “You’re calling the police to catch me? Let’s die together! Let’s just both die!”
Shi Wangui delivered a sharp kick to Wen Yiyue’s stomach. Wen Yiyue gasped in pain, letting go and falling to the floor, propping herself up with her arms.
Wen Youren touched the red marks on her neck and knelt down. “Do you still not think you’re wrong? If you didn’t love him, you could have divorced him. Why did you kill him? And you know exactly whose son Shi Yun’en is, don’t you?”
“Where is Yun’en?” Wen Yiyue suddenly grabbed Shi Wangui’s leg. “Where is he?”
“I’ve already sent him deep into the mountains,” Shi Qin said.
“Shi Qin!” Wen Yiyue shrieked. “Even if he isn’t your son, you can’t take away his right to live! He is my child! He is my child!”
Wen Youren felt nauseated hearing the word “child” come out of that woman’s mouth.
Police sirens wailed outside. Wen Yiyue crawled on her knees, begging. “Youren, withdraw the complaint. Say you were wrong, say it’s fake. I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry!”
Wen Youren stepped back. Wen Yiyue fell face-first onto the floor. “How could you ever think you were wrong? You never would.”
Wen Yiyue stood up, her hair a mess and her makeup smeared. She looked like a ghost. She stood there, laughing.
Shi Qin decided his status was ill-suited for the scene. He straightened his clothes and prepared to leave through the back door. But as he brushed past Wen Yiyue, a sharp pain exploded in his body. Warm blood soaked his clothes. A blade pierced through bone with a sickening crunch.
Wen Yiyue had stabbed Shi Qin.
She had struck with terrifying force, directly into the carotid artery. Blood gushed out like water. She had left him no hope of survival.
Shi Qin gasped, “You… you…” before collapsing to the ground.
“Hahahaha! Hahahahahaha!” Wen Yiyue laughed like a maniac, blood dripping from the knife. “Dead! You’re all dead! You want me to die? Then let’s all die together!”
Wen Youren pulled Shi Wangui out of the room. Shi Qin’s body lay between them and the woman. From behind them came Wen Yiyue’s screams: “So what if I killed him? He deserved to die! He had to die!”
“From now on,” Wen Youren whispered, “I only have you in this world.”
“We still have our friends, we have everyone,” Shi Wangui replied. “But most importantly, you have me.”
They walked away together, passing the police cars on the road. That night, news spread that a famous entrepreneur had been murdered by his wife, who then set a fire and committed suicide.
Their aunt rushed to the house that night. “Is your father dead?”
Shi Wangui hated Shi Qin, but her aunt was his sister. She found it hard to speak.
“He was killed by Wen Yiyue,” Wen Youren said softly.
Her aunt collapsed to the floor in tears, muttering “How could this happen?” over and over.
Wen Youren looked up suddenly. “Did the fire report say the bodies were unrecognizable?”
“What do you mean?” their aunt asked.
Shi Wangui realized what Wen Youren was implying. That villa was a hollow shell; there wasn’t even a place to cook. Where did the fire come from?
“Quickly, contact the police,” Shi Wangui said. “And find out who delivered Wen Yiyue’s lunch today.”
They returned to the scene. The once-grand villa was now a pile of ash and smoking ruins. When the police arrived, Wen Youren told them, “I suspect Wen Yiyue wasn’t inside. There must have been someone else.”
“Don’t worry,” a female officer said. “We will investigate thoroughly.”
“Check on Sun Kaiwen,” Shi Wangui added. “He is Shi Qin’s secretary. I called the office, and they said he never returned.”
They discovered Sun Kaiwen was the one Shi Qin had assigned to watch Wen Yiyue. He was the most likely person to have provided a knife. Then, Wen Youren’s phone rang. When she came back, her face was grim.
“Arrest Sun Kaiwen. He embezzled billions from the company. I suspect that body isn’t Wen Yiyue’s.”
Her assistant had told her Sun Kaiwen had drained Shi Qin’s accounts. The safe was open, and the gold bars were gone. Only the boss and Sun Kaiwen knew the code.
“I didn’t expect so many people around him to hate him,” Shi Wangui said with a sad smile. “Everyone wanted to drain him dry.” She had hated him, but now that he was dead, the hatred seemed to fade into a dull hollowness.
Wen Youren hugged her in front of the ruins and kissed her forehead. “So much has happened. What do you want to do next?”
Shi Wangui broke down, crying. “I don’t know. I hated him, but when I saw him die in front of me, I was terrified. It felt like the night my mother died.”
“You have me,” Wen Youren whispered, stroking her back. “You have your aunt, Sun Yi, Wang Hu… you aren’t alone.”
After a moment, Shi Wangui asked, “We ignored someone: Shi Yun’en. If he isn’t Shi Qin’s son, whose is he?”
“Sun Kaiwen?” she guessed.
“I remember who Sun Kaiwen is now,” Wen Youren said, looking up. “Back at the village—he’s the friend of Wen Yiyue’s distant relative.”
They remembered the luxurious little house in the village that usually sat empty but was always kept clean. They returned to the village with plainclothes officers. The quiet house now had faint sounds coming from within.
The officers slipped inside. Wen Yiyue was indeed alive. The body in the fire had been a decoy. She had come back here to grab her documents and Shi Yun’en to flee the country. She was five minutes away from escaping forever.
When she saw Wen Youren in the car, she screamed, “I’ll haunt you even as a ghost!”
Shi Yun’en sat on the ground crying, not understanding why his parents were being taken away. The police recovered bags of gold bars and US dollars.
“We will take these assets back,” the officer said. “Once verified, they will be returned to the rightful owner.”
Shi Wangui nodded. “Thank you.”
