Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 70
Wen Yiyue had fled. By the time the police arrived, only the nanny and Shi Yun’en were left at the house. Her luggage was still in her room, and nothing in the house appeared missing.
Because the evidence was substantial, a wanted poster was quickly issued, but she seemed to have vanished into thin air. There were no travel records, and she was nowhere to be found.
Shi Wangui and Wen Youren returned to the villa. Shi Wangui wanted to see Shi Qin’s reaction when he discovered that the child he cherished was not his own. The prospect of these “dogs biting dogs” made her feel incredibly satisfied.
While the police were downstairs questioning Wen Youren about the details, Shi Wangui, finding it inconvenient to appear, went to the third-floor balcony. To her surprise, Shi Qin was already there.
Seeing her, Shi Qin said coldly, “Do you think you’ve won?”
Shi Wangui turned to leave the moment she saw him, but he spoke again. “Don’t you want to know more about your mother?”
“Are you even worthy of speaking of her?” Shi Wangui turned back, pausing her steps. “The most unfortunate thing in my mother’s life was marrying you.”
Shi Qin walked toward her. “Do you hate me that much?”
“What do you think?” Shi Wangui countered. “Give me one reason not to. If I could, I wish the person who died of illness was you, so you could go to the underworld and beg my mother for forgiveness.”
Wen Yiyue was destined for prison—a life for a life. Someone like Shi Qin didn’t deserve a peaceful life either.
At her words, Shi Qin suddenly raised his hand and delivered a sharp slap to Shi Wangui’s face. “Know your place. I am your father. You are in no position to judge me.”
Shi Wangui let out a cold laugh. “I don’t acknowledge you. You will simply end up dying alone.”
The paternity test for Shi Yun’en hadn’t come back yet, but the result was a foregone conclusion. He couldn’t be Shi Qin’s child. The truth Wen Yiyue blurted out wouldn’t be a lie, especially since Shi Qin had his own medical issues. Over the years, he had many women around him, but only Wen Yiyue was bold enough to use another man’s child to marry him. Once the results arrived, Shi Qin would likely use every resource he had to find Wen Yiyue himself, without the police even needing to ask.
Shi Qin smiled. “You’ve only defeated her. To me, this is merely a minor loss.”
“Then I hope you meet the same end,” Shi Wangui replied.
By the time she went downstairs, the police had left. Wen Youren was standing by the window alone. Since the matter wasn’t fully resolved, she looked anxious. Shi Wangui embraced her from behind. “What are you doing? Have faith in the police.”
Wen Youren took her hand. “Mhm.” She turned and noticed the red mark and clear fingerprinted bruise on Shi Wangui’s cheek. “What happened to your face?”
“Don’t worry about it,” Shi Wangui said. “He just had a mental breakdown.”
At that moment, the doorbell rang. Shi Wangui opened it to find Mr. Sun, Shi Qin’s secretary. The middle-aged man looked frantic, sweat on his brow, clutching a yellow file folder.
“Is President Shi home?” Mr. Sun asked.
Shi Wangui glanced at the folder and sneered. “Is that Shi Yun’en’s paternity test? Judging by your expression, I’d say he’s not a match.”
Mr. Sun’s face shifted. Having followed Shi Qin for years, he knew Shi Wangui well. “Miss, I have urgent business with the President.”
“Get over here.” Shi Qin, having heard the commotion, stood at the top of the third-floor stairs.
Mr. Sun followed him into the study. Once the door was closed, he handed over the folder and whispered, “President Shi, the report shows that there is no biological relationship between the two of you.”
Shi Qin’s grip on the report tightened, his knuckles turning white. The red ink on the paper felt like a knife stabbing his heart. He never imagined he could be played so thoroughly.
Since the incident, Shi Qin had been keeping Wen Yiyue under a form of house arrest in a suburban villa, and Shi Yun’en was restricted to his room. He had told himself that as long as the boy was his, he would do everything to protect them both. Now, he realized there was no point.
Shi Qin slammed his hand on the desk. “Have people watch her. Send Shi Yun’en to her as well. Since she dared to deceive me, I will make them pay!”
“President Shi,” Mr. Sun advised, “Miss Wen… she is a wanted fugitive. For the sake of the company, it’s best to hand her over to the police.”
Shi Qin’s health was poor; he had been told years ago that it would be difficult for him to father a child. Shi Wangui was an accident, which was why he had married her mother. He had assumed Wen Yiyue was another such accident—and a son at that—only to find out it was a lie.
Decades ago, Shi Wangui’s mother was forced into an alliance with him because her family’s company faced a financial crisis. Shi Qin hadn’t wanted the shackles of marriage and hadn’t initially registered the certificate until her pregnancy forced his hand. He had even performed a paternity test on Shi Wangui because he doubted his own fertility. But when Shi Yun’en was born, joy had clouded his judgment.
Shi Qin rubbed his temples. “Hand her over to the police tomorrow,” he said slowly. He couldn’t let her off easily after being deceived for so long. He had given her everything she asked for and even planned to leave the estate to the boy. Luckily, he hadn’t signed the final contracts before the truth came out.
“Go downstairs and see if those two are still here,” Shi Qin added.
Mr. Sun went down to check. Shi Wangui and Wen Youren had already left. Aside from Shi Yun’en, who was locked on the second floor, the villa was empty. The soundproofing was excellent; even if the boy screamed, no one below would hear.
“President Shi, they have gone out,” Mr. Sun reported.
Shi Qin loosened his tie. “Let Shi Yun’en out.”
The boy was in his room playing on a tablet. The internet had been cut, so he could only play offline games. When he saw Shi Qin enter, he tossed the tablet aside and threw a tantrum. “Dad! Why won’t you let me out? I want Mommy!”
In the past, Shi Qin would have coddled him, but now the boy only brought him irritation. He dragged Shi Yun’en off the bed, ignoring the boy’s protests. “I’m taking you to see your mother right now.”
In pain, Shi Yun’en grabbed the tablet and threw it at Shi Qin, hitting him in the forehead. Shi Qin kicked him in response. “If you want to see your mother alive, you’d better behave.” Seeing that Shi Qin was truly angry, the boy went quiet and followed him.
The drive to the suburban villa took five hours. Shi Yun’en cried the entire way until Shi Qin, unable to take it, stuffed a cloth into the boy’s mouth. “Cry again and I’ll dump you on the road to fend for yourself.”
“President Shi,” Mr. Sun whispered, “a car has been following us for a while.”
Shi Qin looked in the rearview mirror and saw a black car. He hadn’t noticed when it had started trailing them. “Take a detour and shake them off.”
Mr. Sun turned, but the black car was relentless. On this deserted road, they were the only two vehicles. “President Shi, that car… I think it belongs to Miss Wen.”
Once they reached a safer stretch of road, Mr. Sun confirmed it was Wen Youren’s car.
“Heh,” Shi Qin sneered. “Let them follow. Some sins deserve to be shared.”
Following behind, Shi Wangui asked, “What is he up to now?”
“He’s doing it on purpose,” Wen Youren said calmly. “Having realized it’s us, he’s intentionally leading us to Wen Yiyue. He wants to provoke me. He wants to use my hands to kill Wen Yiyue.”
When Mr. Sun had brought the report into the villa, Wen Youren and Shi Wangui had been watching from a distance. Wang Hu had already sent them the results—there was no biological link.
Without help, Wen Yiyue had nowhere to hide. Her ID was flagged at every station and airport, so she had to still be in the city. The only possibility was that Shi Qin had hidden her away. Now that he knew the truth, his heart would only grow colder.
“Don’t get too worked up later,” Shi Wangui warned with concern. “Wen Yiyue will surely face the death penalty for murder. Don’t destroy your own life out of an impulse.”
“Don’t worry,” Wen Youren smiled. “I’m not alone anymore.”
“Once we get there, we’ll call the police,” Shi Wangui said. They needed to be sure she was actually there; they couldn’t risk a false report charge from Shi Qin.
They eventually arrived. Wen Youren didn’t follow the car directly inside but parked in a clearing nearby. Only after Shi Qin entered the villa did she and Shi Wangui approach.
Inside, Shi Qin went straight to the room where Wen Yiyue was tied up. He had kept her locked here for days, arranging for someone to bring her food. After receiving the paternity test, he had ordered her to be bound.
Seeing Shi Qin, Wen Yiyue couldn’t hide her panic. She knew this day would come, but Shi Qin was too ruthless; she had no chance to escape. It was a windowless, airless room with a series of locked doors between her and freedom.
“In all these years, you are the first one brave enough to use a child to lie to me,” Shi Qin smiled. “What do you think I should do with you?”
“I shouldn’t have lied,” Wen Yiyue stammered. “But you were never willing to register our marriage! I just loved you too much; I wanted to be with you forever. I’ll give you a child. We can do IVF. If it doesn’t work once, we’ll do it twice. We’ll find a way!”
Shi Qin used his phone to tilt her chin up. “Why do you think I would forgive you and stay with you?”
“Because… because you still need Wen Youren.” Wen Yiyue never thought she would have to use her most hated daughter as a bargaining chip—the very daughter responsible for her being a fugitive.
“She probably wants to kill you more than I do,” Shi Qin laughed. He then left the room door ajar and ordered Mr. Sun to unlock the outer doors before leaving.
“What are you doing?” Wen Yiyue panicked. “Why are you opening the door?”
Shi Qin didn’t answer. He simply sat in a chair nearby and waited for the others to walk in. He had left Shi Yun’en in the car and instructed Mr. Sun to take the boy to an orphanage afterward. With the father unknown and the mother facing a death sentence, the orphanage was the only decision left.
Seeing Shi Qin’s silence, Wen Yiyue struggled against her ropes. “I beg you, save me! Let me go! We’ve been husband and wife for so many years. If I get caught, it won’t be good for your company. Wen Youren is still useful; she can still work for you!”
“Is that so?” Wen Youren pushed the door open. “You want to use me as a chip to save yourself? But don’t forget, I will be the one to personally hand you over.”
