Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 50
Wen Youren: “You don’t really need to be this studious. Some things should wait a few more years.”
Shi Wangui knelt on the bed, slowly shifting her position until she was leaning against Wen Youren’s shoulder. She whispered, “Will you teach me?”
Wen Youren’s face instantly flushed. A wave of tingles surged through the shoulder where Shi Wangui was leaning. She tilted her head slightly. “Haven’t you already learned?”
Shi Wangui didn’t say a word. She had spent the entire morning secretly reading that book; even if she hadn’t tried anything for real, she understood the theory well enough.
“Will you teach me later, then?” Shi Wangui moved closer to her neck. “It’s so cold.”
Wen Youren reached out and pulled her into a hug. “I’ll teach you.”
She caught a glimpse of Shi Wangui’s cheek and felt a sudden urge to kiss her.
“Let’s sleep,” Wen Youren said.
Shi Wangui let go of her neck. “Okay. Get in.”
It was exceptionally cold tonight. The wind howled outside the window. Wen Youren had wanted to turn on the heater, but Shi Wangui refused, claiming it was according to what the book taught.
The book told her that when it’s cold, two people hugging will keep each other warm. Shi Wangui didn’t want the heater; she wanted it to be a bit cold so she could sleep in Wen Youren’s arms.
Thinking about it, they hadn’t slept together since returning to school. Being in a relationship felt like being in a relationship, but when they were out in the world, they still acted like just friends.
Shi Wangui opened her eyes. The room was pitch black, and she couldn’t see Wen Youren, but the sound of her breathing circled her ear. “Wen Youren.”
“Mhm?”
“I just want to call you Wen Youren. I don’t want some special nickname.”
“You can call me whatever you like.”
A moment later, Shi Wangui couldn’t fall asleep. She moved even closer, using her finger to lightly trace patterns on Wen Youren’s collarbone—from circles to hearts, and finally even writing words.
Wen Youren’s body shivered, and her breathing quickened. “It tickles.”
Shi Wangui whispered, “I’m not ticklish. You play with me.”
Both went silent.
Wen Youren: “Read fewer novels.”
Shi Wangui: “I’ll read what I want.”
Wen Youren chuckled. “Fine, read if you want. But don’t go learning the wrong things. We’ll learn for real when we’re adults.”
“You’re no saint either,” Shi Wangui said, giving Wen Youren a playful shove and backing away slightly. “You’ve definitely thought about those things in your head.”
“Thought about what?”
“Those things.”
“Which ‘those’ things?”
Shi Wangui: “I suspect you’re bullying me. I have evidence. I’m calling for a trial.”
Wen Youren used a high-pitched, playful voice: “Mercy, Your Honor!”
Shi Wangui wasn’t having it. “No mercy! Someone drag her out and beat her to death with sticks!”
As soon as she said the last word, Wen Youren immediately covered her mouth with her finger. “Don’t say that word casually. Not now, and not ever.”
Shi Wangui whispered, “Okay.”
Wen Youren held her close. Shi Wangui’s hair was soft, brushing against her face with a familiar, tingly scent. “Goodnight.”
Shi Wangui replied, “Goodnight.”
But the silence didn’t last three minutes before Shi Wangui was moving again. She couldn’t sleep, so she nudged Wen Youren. “Are you asleep?”
Wen Youren: “No.”
Shi Wangui sighed. “I can’t sleep.”
Wen Youren stroked her hair. “What’s wrong?”
“Maybe it’s the night, the snow, or just being excited. I’m not tired.”
Wen Youren asked skeptically, “Is it because of the novel you read this afternoon?”
Shi Wangui was speechless. Even if it was because of the novel, she couldn’t admit it! Saying it out loud like that was so embarrassing. She had a reputation to maintain.
“Don’t talk. You’re annoying when you speak,” Shi Wangui said with a hint of resentment.
Wen Youren quickly tried to soothe her. “Okay, okay!”
“You’re still talking.”
“Then I’ll stop.”
“See? You spoke again.”
After a moment of silence, Shi Wangui grew restless again and poked Wen Youren’s cheek. “Why are you ignoring me?”
Wen Youren laughed. “Because I was trying to figure out how to talk to you without making a sound.”
Shi Wangui laughed. She rested her hand on Wen Youren’s shoulder, drew a few circles in the air, and then moved it to Wen Youren’s face. She gently traced her features—from her eyes to her nose to her mouth—touching every inch of skin.
When she reached the lips, she pressed down lightly on the center of Wen Youren’s lip before finally letting her hand rest on the collarbone. The whole movement was fluid and deliberate, leaving Wen Youren’s heart fluttering.
Wen Youren asked nervously, “What are you doing?”
Shi Wangui murmured, “I’m memorizing your face in the dark.”
Wen Youren said, “I memorized yours a long time ago.”
“Then I’ll touch you every night from now on to memorize you too.”
“Shi Wangui,” Wen Youren said, her tone suddenly becoming serious.
“Mhm?”
“Do you,” Wen Youren hesitated, then gathered her courage, “do you want to kiss?”
Shi Wangui felt a flicker of annoyance. “Didn’t I say you don’t need to ask for my answer?”
This was such a hard question to answer. The book said that being too proactive is a disadvantage, but being too passive means getting nothing and the truth was, she really did want to kiss. She wished there was no one else around so she could kiss whenever she wanted.
“No,” Wen Youren said, her voice suddenly tense. “It’s not the kind of kiss you’re thinking of.”
This made Shi Wangui nervous too. “Then what is it?”
Shi Wangui hated herself for spending the day reading those smutty books. But she was also incredibly tense because Wen Youren’s phrasing was so easy to misunderstand.
“It’s—is a French kiss okay?”
Shi Wangui nodded slightly, then buried herself deep under the covers. Too embarrassing! What do I do? It’s fine while it’s dark, but I’ll definitely be too shy once the sun comes up.
Wen Youren whispered, “Then shall we try?”
Shi Wangui had already agreed, so she slowly poked her head out, eyes squeezed shut. She lifted her face slightly until their lips met.
Wen Youren kissed her lips first, sucking gently before sliding down to nibble on her lower lip, finally tangling their tongues together. The quiet room was soon filled with the soft sound of kissing. As time passed, faint whimpers could be heard. Shi Wangui’s lips were too soft; Wen Youren couldn’t let go. In this moment, she felt like a drowning child, and Shi Wangui was the life-saving air she couldn’t get enough of.
After the kiss, Wen Youren said breathlessly, “Goodnight.”
Shi Wangui’s face was flushed red, though it was too dark for anyone to see. “Okay, goodnight.”
The next morning, Shi Wangui was woken by a bright white light. She opened her eyes to see Wen Youren standing by the window. “What’s wrong?”
Wen Youren turned and smiled. “It snowed heavily last night. The teacher said classes are canceled today.”
Shi Wangui jumped up. “That’s great!”
“But,” Wen Youren’s expression shifted, “the school notified all parents, including ours. They know we’re back.”
Shi Wangui’s face darkened. She really didn’t want to see those two people. She wished they would vanish from her life forever. “And?”
“They called me. They want us back this afternoon. They said it’s mandatory.”
Shi Wangui’s expression was grim. “Then let’s go back. I have something I need to get anyway.”
She remembered her mother’s belongings were still hidden in that house. She had to sneak them out this time. Once she had them, that house would hold no leverage over her. She could return if she wanted, or stay away for the rest of her life.
Wen Youren: “Okay.”
In truth, Wen Youren had a bad feeling about this return. Wen Yiyue’s sudden concern for Shi Wangui and for her was suspicious. She dreaded to think what was waiting for them.
“Breakfast is ready! We’re heading out to work. You two eat and remember to wash the dishes,” Yuan Yiqi called out, knocking on the door.
Shi Wangui: “Thanks, Sister Yiqi! Be safe on the road with all that snow.”
Yuan Yiqi: “Will do, little Wangui! See you next time.”
Once they left, Shi Wangui got out of bed. If they were going back, they needed to do it early. If they went in the afternoon, they might not be able to leave at night. But if they went in the morning, they could be back at school by afternoon.
She hadn’t forgotten what happened last night. Seeing Wen Youren in the morning light made her feel a bit awkward, but her love for her won out over her shyness.
Because of the snow, Wen Youren didn’t ride the motorcycle. They walked to the main road and caught a taxi. There were few pedestrians, and the world had changed color, looking as magical as a fairy tale.
When they arrived home, both Shi Qin and Wen Yiyue were there, along with Shi Wangui’s aunt and uncle. One thing was different: her aunt looked miserable, while the other three were laughing and chatting.
“Auntie,” Shi Wangui said.
Her aunt looked up and smiled. “Wangui, you’re back. It’s cold out, why are you wearing so little? I brought you some clothes; they’re in your room. Go try them on.”
Shi Wangui nodded, took Wen Youren’s hand, and went upstairs, leaving the stunned parents in the living room.
When they came back down, Shi Qin got straight to the point. “When did you two get back to school? Why didn’t you tell us?”
Shi Wangui said coolly, “There was no need.”
Shi Qin lost his temper. “No need? I’m your father! If you think it’s ‘no need,’ don’t expect another cent from this family for the rest of your life.”
Shi Wangui: “You’re crazy.”
Her aunt immediately stepped in to mediate. “What are you doing? We’re still here. Wangui, go back up. We’re going out for dinner tonight, don’t forget.”
Shi Wangui glanced at Wen Youren, then nodded. The two of them went back upstairs.
