Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 30
During the exam, Shi Wangui kept feeling she had been deceived. She was absolutely certain she hadn’t voluntarily suggested coming to study, absolutely not. But she was already seated here, and that Teacher Wang seemed like a decent person, not unlike their homeroom teacher. It wouldn’t be polite to act out.
The problem was, she truly couldn’t understand the test paper. Since starting high school, Shi Wangui hadn’t studied at all. If it were middle school math, she might have been able to answer a few questions, but this was high school-level.
She couldn’t afford to score another five out of a hundred.
Shi Wangui stared helplessly at the exam paper, her mind in turmoil. To borrow a phrase from novels, her “Dao heart was in chaos.” Since ancient times, a disturbed Dao heart was a grave taboo, especially when the disturbance seemed to stem from someone she once disliked.
Wen Youren sat right beside Shi Wangui, diligently working on the questions. She could easily guess the wild thoughts running through Shi Wangui’s mind. None of the three of them had particularly good grades. Although Wang Hu was slightly better than the other two, even he would find it extremely difficult to get into a top-tier university.
Teacher Wang was an excellent educator. Having her tutor them would undoubtedly help all of them, and in a way, it would also benefit Teacher Wang. Retirement could be monotonous when living alone, and someone as lively as Shi Wangui was sure to bring some joy into her life.
Unaware of Wen Youren’s thoughts, Shi Wangui noticed the other three scratching away on their scratch paper. Sun Yi didn’t know the answers either, but in this environment, not writing anything seemed inappropriate.
Quietly, Shi Wangui picked up her pen. Staring at the math exam paper with its sparse numbers, her head felt twice as heavy. She glanced at Wen Youren beside her, the first page was almost completely filled.
Wait, the first page was almost done.
Couldn’t she just copy a few answers? That way, she wouldn’t end up with a single-digit score again.
The exam didn’t contain a single middle school-level concept, it was all about sets. And right now, she didn’t even know what the concept of a “set” meant!
Shi Wangui leaned slightly forward, trying to sneak a peek at the multiple-choice answers. Ah! What was the second question again? B or D? She leaned in a little closer, but Wen Youren’s handwriting was too small and illegible.
The moment she made a move, Wen Youren noticed and shifted her posture, completely blocking her written answers from view.
Teacher Wang had designed this test to assess their foundational knowledge. Wen Youren didn’t really need extra tutoring, but the others did. It was essential to expose all their weaknesses so Teacher Wang would know she had to start from the very basics.
Witnessing this subtle act, Shi Wangui thought, “Was that really necessary? So what if she’s good at studying? What’s so great about that?” Fuming, she slumped over the desk and angrily circled “A” for the first question with a heavy stroke.
If she had already seen it, she couldn’t be blamed.
But she genuinely couldn’t tell whether the second question was B or D. Since she didn’t understand the definitions either, she could only infer them based on the first question’s answer and roughly guess the subsequent questions.
Teacher Wang had allotted two hours for the exam, but the test was designed to be completed in one. Immersed in her own world of deductions, Shi Wangui slowly worked through the paper, using up all the time the teacher had given them.
Yet, in those brief two hours, Shi Wangui caught a glimpse of her former self. The questions weren’t excessively difficult, it was just that, in regular exams, she never bothered to read them carefully, always muddling through.
Time was up. Teacher Wang collected all the exam papers and gave them a twenty-minute break to relax outside while she graded the tests in the study.
Once downstairs, Shi Wangui grabbed Wen Youren’s coat and asked, “Why did you bring us to this tutoring class?”
As soon as Shi Wangui asked, Sun Yi rushed over too. She also wanted to know originally, she had come to find Shi Wangui partly to check on her and partly to tease Wen Youren, but she had genuinely wanted to hang out as well.
“You said it yourself last night. Have you forgotten already?” Wen Youren feigned helplessness. “I’ve already made arrangements with Teacher Wang. The four of us will come every weekend, and on weekdays, only the two of us will come on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
Shi Wangui: “What?!”
Sun Yi: “What?!”
Wang Hu: “Great!”
Wang Hu wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. No matter how hard he studied, his grades never improved much. Even if he hadn’t come with his friends for tutoring, his parents would have signed him up for classes anyway.
“This was all your request last night, Wangui. If you hadn’t asked, how could I have taken the liberty to bring you here?” Wen Youren said deliberately.
“…”
“Stop talking to me in that tone on purpose!” Shi Wangui clenched her fists. “Act normal!”
Wen Youren seemed like a different person today. Before, she had always worn a stern expression in class, focusing solely on studying. But ever since her self-harm incident, she had started smiling more and had become somewhat manipulative, often saying things like, “I don’t think you’d go back on your word,” or “You said it yourself, so of course I have to do it.” It always caught Shi Wangui off guard.
“Twenty minutes isn’t too long or too short. You can go enjoy the scenery, use the public restroom, or even ask me about your studies,” Wen Youren reminded them, her tone shifting.
Shi Wangui was still thinking about what happened the night before. She grabbed Wen Youren’s hand and pulled her away in front of the other two. When they reached a small grove, she said, “What I said this morning was true.”
“Hmm?” Wen Youren lowered her head to meet her gaze. “What was true?”
“It’s just, just.”
“Just that what I said this morning about taking responsibility for you was true.”
“I don’t remember much about last night, but I have a vague impression. Did I sleep with you? I’m not sure how it happened, but the scratches on your back must be from me. After all, I was the one sleeping with you, it couldn’t have been you who scratched yourself, right?”
Wen Youren: “…”
It actually was her who scratched herself, but she decided to play along.
“So, how do you plan to take responsibility?” Wen Youren pointed to her cheek. “Like giving me a kiss?”
Shi Wangui leaned in and kissed her directly, then said, “If that’s what you want, then that’s what we’ll do.”
Wait! Why was she starting to sound as manipulative as Wen Youren? And Wen Youren’s cheek was so soft was this what kissing felt like?
Her skin was so tender. So, is this what liking someone feels like?
It needed further observation.
Wen Youren had only said it offhandedly. She never expected Shi Wangui to actually do it. She never thought she would.
Her eyes widened as she stared blankly at the scenery ahead. Her pupils slowly focused, then her vision blurred. The sensation lasted only a moment, but it lingered in her mind for a long time.
“You!” Wen Youren gradually snapped back to reality. “Do you like girls?”
Shi Wangui answered bluntly, “I don’t know, but I’m definitely someone who takes responsibility.”
She truly couldn’t figure out now whether she liked girls or not everything she’d read online seemed to apply to her, but this situation was just so awkward. Wen Youren was her father’s new wife’s daughter, essentially making her an older sister.
Falling in love with one’s sister was indeed quite rare.
Wen Youren’s cheeks flushed slightly as she whispered, “Don’t force yourself. Actually, last night.”
“I’m not forcing anything,” Shi Wangui replied.
“Haven’t you always disliked me?”
Shi Wangui fell silent for a moment. It was true she had disliked Wen Youren before, but recalling past incidents one by one, maybe she didn’t dislike her that much after all. It was Wen Youren who found evidence when she was falsely accused of stealing money, Wen Youren who brought her food when she was nearly starving, and Wen Youren who had taken care of her for a long time.
“I used to dislike you, but I’m definitely not the kind of person who shirks responsibility. I’ll separate my feelings about you from my relationship with Wen Yiyue, and we can start over with a fresh approach.”
“Alright, as you wish.” Wen Youren took Shi Wangui’s hand and gently kissed the back of it.
“But let’s take things slow for now, giving you time to understand your own heart,” Wen Youren added. She didn’t want to rush Shi Wangui, who was still just an underage girl and might not fully comprehend love yet.
“Okay.”
The twenty-minute break was almost up Teacher Wang had only given them that much time to rest. Though she longed to spend more time with Shi Wangui, she couldn’t break the teacher’s rules.
When they returned to the teacher’s house, Sun Yi and Wang Hu were already there, test papers in hand. Since it was only the first chapter, the exam wasn’t particularly difficult except for the last few questions, and scoring a passing grade should have been easy.
But Sun Yi got 49 points, while Wang Hu scored 61.
Teacher Wang found it strange Wang Hu’s paper was completely filled out, yet the tally came to 61 points. Thinking she might have miscalculated, she even pressed the calculator twice, finally confirming there was no mistake.
“You’re back,” Teacher Wang said, handing over the test papers. “Take your exams.”
Wen Youren had once again scored full marks, with the neatest and most visually pleasing paper. Teachers always appreciated such work beautiful handwriting, no messy scratch notes, it was a joy to look at.
When Shi Wangui first received her paper, it was face down, so she hadn’t seen her score. Then Sun Yi flipped it over.
83 points.
Sun Yi asked timidly, “Did Wen Youren tutor you during this time?”
Wen Youren immediately clarified, “Today was the first time she opened her math textbook.”
Shi Wangui hadn’t been studying; she had deduced all the answers based on the first question’s solution. She had tested into No. 8 High School with high scores, so her foundational knowledge was definitely still there.
Wang Hu was baffled too. “So you’ve been pretending to be academically weak all this time?”
“Of course not,” Shi Wangui explained. “I just didn’t feel like studying before.”
Today was different, that’s all.
Just then, Teacher Wang emerged from the study, handing each of them a math textbook. With a tone of disappointment, she said, “Logically, scoring above 95 on this chapter’s test should have been easy, yet only Wen Youren passed. Now, everyone open your books, I’m going to teach this chapter from the beginning.”
“Okay.”
As they just opened their books, Teacher Wang seemed to remember something and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already eleven o’clock.
She thought for a moment, then instructed, “Wen Youren, you go cook. The vegetables are in the fridge, the meat is in the second drawer from the top, and there are some frozen shrimps in the bottom drawer. The vegetables are on top of the fridge, and the eggs are in the compartment above the fridge. If you can’t find anything, just ask me.”
Cooking would take at least an hour and a half, and explaining this test paper would also take at least that long. She couldn’t let the students go hungry until the afternoon. Wen Youren was capable anyway, and his cooking was delicious, it would be a waste not to make use of his talent.
Wen Youren replied, “Okay.”
Shi Wangui thought to herself, “If only I had studied more seriously a couple of days ago and reviewed the material, maybe I could have scored full marks too. I really don’t want to listen to this lecture!!!”
