Green Tea Top Student Falls in Love with Me - Chapter 27
One week later,
On this very evening, Sun Yi and Wang Hu were coming over.
Early in the morning,
“Get up, get up, let’s go to town to buy food.” Shi Wangui, who usually loved sleeping in, had woken up unusually early today. She shook Wen Youren beside her and said happily.
Not going to school was joyful, but it was also painful. Humans are social animals; leaving friends and the hustle and bustle behind brings short-term happiness, but in the long run, without anyone to play and joke around with, it becomes boring.
Wen Youren could be considered a companion, but she couldn’t bring herself to admit it.
She didn’t feel like studying, and Wen Youren, being quite adept at handling people, didn’t push her since she wasn’t in the mood.
“They won’t be out of school until the evening, and it’ll be almost eight by the time they get here. But right now.” Wen Youren struggled to open her eyes, then reached for her phone on the bedside table, checking the time. “It’s only 5:40. Isn’t it a bit too early?”
Shi Wangui hadn’t checked the time when she woke up. She had just suddenly woken up and wasn’t sleepy anymore, purely forgetting that she had slept all afternoon yesterday and gone to bed early last night. It was only natural she wasn’t tired now.
“So early!” She usually woke up around eight or nine. Originally, she had planned to go to the market to buy some food. Yesterday, she had discovered a hotpot pot in the kitchen, and having hotpot together in the evening would be so much fun.
But it was still too early. The first bus wouldn’t start until 7:30. The days were getting longer now, and even though it was just past five, the brightness outside made it feel like it was already past eight.
Shi Wangui turned off the light again and burrowed back under the covers. Luckily, she hadn’t been standing for long, so it was still somewhat warm inside. Though it definitely wasn’t as warm as Wen Youren’s side. She snuggled closer, the thick pajamas preventing any skin-to-skin contact. Even as they drew near, it didn’t feel awkward at all.
During this time, Shi Wangui felt she had grown to like this place, the scenery was beautiful, the people were nice, and even the dogs were friendly. The little dog that used to bare its teeth at her now wagged its tail happily when it saw her. The persimmon tree in the courtyard had started dropping fruit, and birds occasionally came to peck at them.
Her relationship with Wen Youren remained the same as before not dislike, but not acknowledgment either. She didn’t acknowledge her as an older sister, nor as a younger sister. But compared to strangers, they had grown much closer. Perhaps it was due to a week of cooperation, or perhaps it was a week of sharing a bed. In any case, it was much better than before.
She didn’t know how long she slept again, but when Shi Wangui opened her eyes once more, she was in Wen Youren’s embrace. Her body was warm her skin, her face, even her heart felt warm.
Shi Wangui: “…”
What happened? She tried to recall carefully.
“I thought you weren’t very warm.” Wen Youren had unintentionally placed her hand on Shi Wangui’s waist. Pajamas, usually neat and tidy as clothing, tended to twist and turn during sleep, inevitably exposing some skin.
The sudden touch of a warm palm on her waist sent a tingling sensation, somewhat ticklish but mostly comforting. Her belly had been cold, and as a wave of warmth spread through her, she gradually fell asleep.
After recalling this, she realized how she had ended up sleeping in Wen Youren’s arms.
It’s fine, we’re both girls.
It’s fine, she’s still my sister.
Wait, that doesn’t seem right she likes girls.
But that doesn’t seem right either, she and I aren’t even registered in the same household register.
Whatever, I guess I’ve taken advantage of her too, in a way.
Shi Wangui rolled over, and once again, an invisible boundary seemed to form between them.
It wasn’t until the alarm went off that they truly started their day.
“Get ready, we’re going grocery shopping.” Wen Youren had woken up a few minutes earlier and was already dressed in a black windbreaker, her short hair casually brushed. Today, she wore her glasses, which gave her a somewhat. scholarly air?
What a strange kind of scholarly air.
“Okay.” Shi Wangui quickly got out of bed to change. She was happy that friends were coming over tonight. Besides, Sun Yi had been acting off lately, seeming down, she’d have to ask her about it later.
They planned to have hot pot for dinner, so they bought plenty of vegetables and fruits. This time, Shi Wangui was unusually generous and paid for everything. Since Sun Yi and Wang Hu were coming specifically to see her, it would feel awkward to let Wen Youren cover the expenses.
Wen Youren tidied up the two rooms on the second floor and brought out several thick quilts from the storage room. The weather was nice, so she not only aired out the freshly unpacked quilts but also the ones they had been using the past few days.
Shi Wangui stared at the yard full of thick quilts: “…”
“You had thick quilts at home?” Shi Wangui pointed at them and asked.
Wen Youren casually dusted them off with a quilt beater and replied vaguely, “Of course I did.”
“Then why?” Shi Wangui was speechless. Back then, she had only let Wen Youren share the bed because she was worried she’d catch a cold sleeping under a thin quilt. Who would have thought?
What kind of mess is this?
“Then why didn’t you take them out earlier? I actually thought you’d given me your only thick quilt and was worried you’d get cold, so I let you sleep with me.”
“In that case, you can sleep downstairs by yourself tonight.”
“No.” Wen Youren refused outright. Once you’re in the bed, how can you go back?
“Why not?” Shi Wangui put her hands on her hips and asked.
“Because Sun Yi and Wang Hu are coming tonight. There are exactly four beds, just enough for the two of them.” Wen Youren brushed her off. She definitely didn’t want Sun Yi and Shi Wangui sleeping together.
“Well, then you can go back downstairs after they leave.” Shi Wangui compromised slightly.
Wen Youren had somehow moved closer to Shi Wangui and still insisted, “That won’t work either.”
Shi Wangui frowned. “What’s your excuse this time?”
Wen Youren leaned close to Shi Wangui’s ear, lowered her voice, and whispered, “Because I’ve gotten used to sleeping with you.”
Ever since that night at the hospital, her feelings for Shi Wangui had changed. They could never just be friends either they’d be strangers or lovers.
“You?” Shi Wangui raised an eyebrow and said bluntly, “You don’t have a crush on me, do you?”
“If that’s what you think,” Wen Youren teased, deliberately leaving her sentence unfinished. Then, as Shi Wangui’s expression grew increasingly stiff, she added, “There’s nothing I can do about it.”
“Don’t make me slap you.”
“What do you want for lunch? Plain noodles sound good? Dinner will be heavy, so let’s keep it light at noon.” Wen Youren asked.
“Okay~” Shi Wangui instantly forgot what had just happened.
After lunch, Wen Youren looked at Shi Wangui’s expectant face and said directly, “There’s an English test on the table. Time to fulfill your promise.”
Shi Wangui stopped rubbing her stomach. “What promise?”
She didn’t seem to have made any kind of bet with Wen Youren, right? It couldn’t be possible.
She really shouldn’t have, right?
Probably not.
Maybe not?
Can’t remember.
Wen Youren casually made something up: “You said before that if you could invite friends over to hang out, and I agreed, then you’d be willing to study. So starting today, let’s do it.”
Shi Wangui closed her eyes and began a mental storm those words didn’t sound like something she would say, but Wen Youren didn’t seem like the type to lie either. Did she really say that?
“You’re lying, aren’t you?” Shi Wangui asked, lacking confidence.
“I originally thought our school bully was someone who kept her word,” Wen Youren said with a sigh. “Turns out I was overthinking it. Seems like she’s not, after all.”
“Who says I’m not? I’ll study, then.” Shi Wangui threw down a tough line and headed straight to the study.
Watching her retreating figure, Wen Youren couldn’t help but smile. Kids will be kids so easy to coax. She felt that Shi Wangui was particularly suited to the infant education method: praise her more, encourage her more, and it basically worked.
At that moment, Shi Wangui, sitting on the chair: “…”
She felt like she’d been tricked. Should she back out now? But she’d just declared herself a person of her word. Damn it, she wished she could use her brain a little more before doing things and not be so impulsive.
That would be her New Year’s resolution this year.
True to her word, Shi Wangui stayed in the study until 5 p.m., not even stepping out to use the bathroom, and leaving her phone in her room. Wen Youren didn’t disturb her, just busied herself outside picking persimmons, preparing food, and tidying up the room.
Then she took a novel and settled into the swing to enjoy a peaceful afternoon.
As soon as the clock struck five:
“Alright? Can this prove I keep my word?” Shi Wangui slammed the test paper onto Wen Youren’s face as she lay in the swing, her sense of injustice burning fiercely.
She’d been studying diligently inside, while Wen Youren was swinging and reading a novel? That’s just not fair.
Wen Youren picked up the test paper. She had already done this exact test herself the night before this copy was printed specifically for Shi Wangui. The difficulty wasn’t high; it was actually at the level of the high school entrance exam. Wen Youren mainly wanted to see how much foundational knowledge Shi Wangui had forgotten and how long it would take to bring her back up to speed.
After a quick glance, she estimated a score of over 100 points. It seemed she’d forgotten some basics, but her foundation had been solid before.
“Acceptable.” Wen Youren tucked the test paper into her book, stepped out of the swing, and slipped on her sandals. “I’m almost done with the preparations. Let’s finish up the last part, and then I’ll go with you to the village entrance to pick up your friends.”
At the thought of seeing her friends, Shi Wangui’s resentment vanished. She joined the preparation efforts. They moved the largest table to the center of the living room, washed all the ingredients and arranged them on the table, and set up the hot pot in advance. Once everyone arrived, they could mix their own dipping sauces and start eating right away.
The thought of that scene alone felt wonderful.
After finishing the preparations, Shi Wangui and Wen Youren went to the village entrance, watching the passing cars until, just as darkness fell, they finally spotted the two arrivals.
“Wanwan!” Sun Yi hugged Shi Wangui as soon as she got out of the car. “I missed you so much.”
Wang Hu chimed in, “When you’re not around, I don’t even get to see her in class.”
“Shut your mouth,” Sun Yi snapped, grabbing Wang Hu’s lips with a gritted-teeth expression.
“Hehe, let’s head back quickly. We’ve prepared hot pot,” Shi Wangui said with a laugh.
Wen Youren also thought it was time to make his presence felt. “What drinks do you like? I’ll go buy them.”
They hadn’t bought any drinks earlier because the daytime purchases were too heavy, planning to get them at the village shop instead. However, Shi Wangui had clearly forgotten about it by now.
Sun Yi: “Thanks, Coke for me, and the same for him.”
Wen Youren: “Alright.”
Wen Youren went off to buy the drinks, so Shi Wangui led the two back. On the way, Sun Yi first asked about Shi Wangui’s recent situation and then inquired about many other things.
Finally, Shi Wangui voiced the question on his mind: “How have you been lately?”
Sun Yi suddenly fell silent, and after a moment, replied, “I’ll tell you tonight.”
