- Chapter 8 - Oh, Er-Gege
Xie Lian took the cup handed to him by Hua Cheng, took a light sip, and asked, “The thing that made Young Master Wei a target for everyone is that object called the Stygian Tiger Seal, right? I wonder what kind of item it is?”
Wei Wuxian explained, “Yin Iron was originally an evil object that used living people as sacrifices. Later, it was broken into five pieces by the ancestors of several great sects. One piece was forged into the Yin Iron Sword to suppress the ancient beast, the Tortoise of Slaughter.”
“Lan Zhan and I worked together to kill that beast, and I happened to obtain the Yin Iron Sword. Later, I forged it into the Stygian Tiger Seal. It can command resentful energy and ghostly energy, control walking corpses, and even refine fierce corpses for its own use.”
Xie Lian’s brow furrowed slightly. “In that case, this Stygian Tiger Seal is indeed an evil, ominous object. If it were to fall into the hands of the wicked, it would surely bring a great catastrophe upon the world.”
Hua Cheng raised an eyebrow. “Interesting.”
Wei Wuxian continued, “Using the Stygian Tiger Seal requires the support of immense willpower; otherwise, there is a high possibility of being devoured by its backlash. Long-term use also causes significant damage to the body.”
“It is indeed a wicked thing. However, I believe that no matter what an object is, as long as it is used to do good, it is a good object. What does Daozhang Xie think?”
Xie Lian smiled faintly. “What is wicked has never been the object, but the human heart.”
Wei Wuxian happily raised his wine cup. “Daozhang Xie is absolutely right! Come, Wei Ying toasts to you. I’ll drain mine; Daozhang, feel free to use tea instead of wine as you please.”
Xie Lian nodded. “Very well.”
After finishing his drink and setting down the cup, Wei Wuxian said, “Unfortunately, they won’t think that way. Some people fear the Stygian Tiger Seal, but even more people simply want to possess it.”
Hua Cheng remarked nonchalantly, “With your current body, if you use such an object to manipulate resentful energy over a long period, I fear you will find it difficult to stay alive.”
Upon hearing this, Lan Wangji looked at Wei Wuxian, then turned to Hua Cheng, asking with some anxiety, “Is that true?”
Hua Cheng gave a cold smirk. “Naturally.”
Wei Wuxian immediately laughed it off. “Hahahaha! Lan Zhan, it’s not as serious as City Lord Hua makes it sound. My current body is indeed a bit weaker, but it’s not to the point where I won’t be able to live.”
Lan Wangji looked at Wei Wuxian and said sternly, “Wei Ying, just tell me—”
Before Lan Wangji could finish, Wei Wuxian immediately leaned against him, blinking his eyes. “Oh, my Er-Gege~ I know my own body best. Haven’t you already checked it for me?”
If using the Stygian Tiger Seal would damage the body—and Mo Xuanyu’s body was already quite frail—Lan Wangji did not want to take even a one-in-ten-thousand chance of a risk.
Seeing that Lan Wangji was still looking at him with a serious expression, Wei Wuxian knew he was worried. He straightened up and said earnestly, “Lan Zhan, I don’t even need the Stygian Tiger Seal right now. I have Chenqing. Even without the Seal, I am still the Yiling Patriarch.”
Only then did Lan Wangji nod. “Mn.”
After their meal, the group strolled through the streets of Yiling once more before eventually returning to the tavern. They booked two guest rooms and planned to settle in and rest there for the night.
Shortly after they returned to their room, the waiter brought hot water. Lan Wangji poured the water into the wooden tub and told Wei Wuxian to bathe first.
Wei Wuxian, however, sat on the edge of the bed, swinging his feet back and forth as he looked at Lan Wangji with a beaming smile. “Lan Zhan, this wooden tub is too small. It can only fit one person.”
Lan Wangji replied expressionlessly, “You first.”
Wei Wuxian stood up and leaned in close to Lan Wangji. “Lan Zhan, do you want to peek at me while I bathe?”
Lan Wangji simply said, “Bathe.”
Seeing that no matter what he said, Lan Wangji’s expression remained unchanged, Wei Wuxian felt it was no fun and went to bathe on his own, not forgetting to add, “Er-Gege, you aren’t allowed to peek!”
Lan Wangji walked straight to the writing desk, sat down, and began to write.
Before long, Wei Wuxian finished his bath and came over with his upper body bare and his wet hair draped over his shoulders.
Wei Wuxian asked, “Lan Zhan, what are you writing?”
Lan Wangji looked up at him. “I have already sent a message to my uncle. We depart for the Cloud Recesses tomorrow.”
Wei Wuxian walked over naturally and sat directly on Lan Wangji’s lap. “Lan Zhan, what if your uncle tries to kick me out?”
Lan Wangji said, “He will not.”
Wei Wuxian’s wet hair began to soak Lan Wangji’s clothes. Lan Wangji took a handkerchief and carefully began to dry Wei Wuxian’s hair. Wei Wuxian sat contentedly on Lan Wangji’s lap, swinging his feet.
After drying Wei Wuxian’s hair, Lan Wangji refilled the hot water to take his own bath.
By the time Lan Wangji finished cleaning up and lay down on the bed, it was nearly the Hour of Hai (9:00 PM).
As soon as Lan Wangji lay down, Wei Wuxian rolled over and propped himself up on Lan Wangji’s chest. He looked up at him and teased, “Oh, Er-Gege, the Hour of Hai has arrived. Why aren’t you sleeping yet?”
Lan Wangji reached out and pulled Wei Wuxian into a tight embrace. “Every day.”
