- Chapter 9 - Beat Up the Wrong Person
As Su An prepared to begin his check-up, his phone vibrated with a message.
Yu Feng: [Auntie Chen mentioned you went to the hospital.] Su An: [Just getting a check-up. Guess who I ran into?] Yu Feng: [Gu Cheng.]
Su An was curious how Yu Feng guessed so accurately, but another message arrived immediately.
Yu Feng: [That guy can’t keep a secret to save his life.]
Fair enough. He remembered that Gu Cheng and Yu Feng were the same age; apparently, twenty-seven is the age where one loses the ability to keep a secret—specifically referring to Gu Cheng.
Yu Feng: [Message me when you’re finished. I’ll have the driver pick you up.] Su An: [Okay.]
The list of tests was extensive, and by the time Su An finished everything, it was nearly evening. He walked out holding a thick stack of reports. Passersby couldn’t help but click their tongues in pity: Such a handsome young man, yet so many illnesses. What a shame.
It was a good thing Su An couldn’t hear their thoughts, or he would have gone over to defend himself. He took the reports back to Gu Cheng’s office.
Gu Cheng looked at the results, his brow furrowed. Seeing this expression, Su An’s heart leaped into his throat. “Is the end near?”
When Gu Cheng shook his head without speaking, Su An asked again, “Terminal illness? Late-stage cancer? Give it to me straight; I might still have time to watch an ad and respawn.”
Su An was already mentally prepared and even felt like joking.
Gu Cheng looked up from the pile. “You actually surprised me. I thought you’d have at least a few major issues, but according to these reports, aside from failing nearly every nutritional index, there’s nothing seriously wrong.”
Su An hadn’t expected that answer. He asked cautiously, “No problems with my heart or anything?”
Gu Cheng looked at the report once more and gave a firm answer: “None.”
Su An breathed a sigh of relief. Heaven had been kind to him!
“Oh, right—you’re allergic to alcohol, so be careful. With your current physical state, a single drop could take half your life away,” Gu Cheng warned.
Su An nodded, noting the warning.
“Did you feed all your meals to a dog in the past?” Gu Cheng couldn’t understand how someone’s nutritional levels could be so low.
Su An grumbled, “You’re a doctor. Can you stop mentioning dogs every five seconds?”
Gu Cheng waved him off. “You don’t get it. This is what I call ‘being real.'” He checked the time and stood up quickly to pack his things. “Can’t talk anymore; I’m off the clock.”
Su An: “…” Gu Cheng, who slipped away without a moment’s hesitation, leaving only dust in his wake, was indeed ‘real’ as hell.
Leaving the hospital, Su An sent a message to Yu Feng. A second later, his phone rang.
“How were the results?” The magnetic, pleasant voice came through, making Su An’s heart skip a beat.
“Nothing major, just malnutrition,” Su An reported honestly.
“I’ll have the driver pick you up. Find a place to wait.”
“I want to eat the food you cook,” Su An said, looking down and kicking a pebble on the sidewalk.
“Mhm. Tonight might not work; I have a meeting at the company. I’ll cook for you tomorrow,” Yu Feng said, his tone carrying a hint of a smile.
As they chatted, the driver arrived. Su An said to the phone, “The driver is here. I’m getting in.”
The driver turned on the heater. Sitting in the backseat, Su An used his phone to register a professional account. He chose the English name Aurora, representing a new beginning; it would be easier for future collaborations.
After registering, he scrolled through the trending searches. The news from Su Kefan’s birthday banquet had been suppressed by the Su family’s money, but netizens were still discussing it. Reading the comments made Su An laugh; the internet was far too entertaining.
[I’ve seen DNA used for paternity tests, but this is the first time I’ve seen it used to prove an affair.]
[The person above clearly hasn’t seen enough high-society drama. Venmo me 50 bucks to unlock more explosive news.]
[Is this actually real? Su Kefan is the chief designer for FanNian Jewelry, right? I don’t even want to buy his designs anymore. How unlucky.]
[Looks real to me. She even pulled out the hair strands. I feel bad for the girl in the red dress.]
If there hadn’t been a driver in the car, Su An would have laughed out loud. So this was the joy of a “face-slapping” protagonist tearing down a “white lotus” rival.
Just as Su An wanted to continue reading, a notification popped up.
Tong Jiu: [Xiangya Pavilion! There’s a pervert! Come quick!]
Su An’s eyelid twitched. He immediately told the driver to turn around and head to Xiangya Pavilion. When he arrived, he found Tong Jiu wearing a hat and mask, crouching by the entrance.
“Aren’t you afraid of being photographed crouching there?” Su An stepped forward. “Where’s the pervert?”
“He said he was going to the restroom, so I came out to get you.” Tong Jiu’s handsome eyes were full of grievance. “An’an! You have to stand up for me! I was dragged here for a blind date, and I’m telling you, that pervert touched me.”
“What?!” Su An was shocked. Who was so blind as to touch the Young Master of the Tong family? “Let’s go.”
Tong Jiu let himself be pulled along. “What are we going to do?”
“Something big. You can’t just take this lying down,” Su An said with a mischievous smirk.
He pulled Tong Jiu to the restroom entrance. The two hid around the corner, peeking their heads out. Su An asked, “What was he wearing?”
“A black jacket and black pants,” Tong Jiu recalled, choosing his words carefully. “He’s quite tall, taller than me.”
At that moment, a man whose height and clothing perfectly matched Tong Jiu’s description walked out. Tong Jiu’s eyes lit up, and he whispered, “That’s him!”
Su An rolled up his sleeves, entering battle mode. The spring breeze blows, the battle drums beat—I’ve got no shame, so who’s afraid of whom?
He put on his mask and lunged forward. He unleashed a flurry of kicks with his good foot, cursing, “I’ll beat you to death, you shameless piece of trash!”
Tong Jiu hesitated for a second, but seeing Su An get hit by the man’s flailing arms, his fighting spirit surged. He let out a particularly cheesy shout: “I’ll help you!”
Seeing the man try to fight back, Tong Jiu grabbed the man’s waving arms from behind to restrain him, then delivered an elbow strike to his back. The strike forced the man, who was trying to straighten up, to double over again. His head was spinning.
Once they were finished, Su An grabbed the man by the collar and yanked it upward, forcing him to look up.
Su An thought: I want to see what this shameless thing looks like… holy crap! Xia Lianqi?!
Because the original author had used countless flowery descriptions for the mole between his eyebrows, Su An recognized the Protagonist Gong the moment he saw it.
Wait—why was Xia Lianqi on a blind date? Shouldn’t he be living happily ever after with Feng Ling?
Beside him, Tong Jiu, having finished his workout, poked him. His voice was so quiet it was barely audible: “We hit the wrong person… it was the guy next to him…”
Su An: “…” I’ve already finished the beating and you’re only telling me this now?!
