- Chapter 10 - Squatting in a Row, All Good Babies
Su An turned his head to look at the person Tong Jiu was pointing at the very same Gu Cheng he had seen not long ago, the man who left work on the dot and ran faster than anyone. Now, Gu Cheng was standing to the side with a look of pure terror.
Wait, is the world crazy or am I? Am I having hallucinations? Su An walked over and gave Gu Cheng a sharp pinch.
Gu Cheng cried out, “Ow—!”
Su An concluded: Not a hallucination.
Xia Lianqi, who was sprawled on the ground, finally recovered from the excruciating pain in his lower body. “Who the hell dares to hit me?” He propped himself up against the wall and stood up, casting a vicious glare at the two people standing at attention nearby.
Xia Lianqi was absolutely livid. First, the business partner for the northern city plot had suddenly backed out, leaving them unable to find a new investor and stalling the project. Then, Feng Ling had thrown a tantrum at him this morning. And now, he had been inexplicably beaten up on top of all that.
His bodyguards arrived late, trembling. “President Xia.”
Xia Lianqi gritted his teeth, having no time to settle the score for their negligence. He pointed at Su An. “Get those two in the masks, and that one over there watching the show. Catch them all!”
“Yes, sir!”
The bodyguards moved quickly. Seeing that things were taking a turn for the worse, Su An grabbed the dazed Tong Jiu with his left hand and the “victim of circumstance” Gu Cheng with his right, and they bolted.
Gu Cheng was in a state of disarray. “Wait, why are they chasing me? I’m just an innocent bystander!”
“Shut up, it’s all because of you.” Su An’s breathing was a bit ragged from the exertion. He asked the two irritably, “Don’t either of you have bodyguards?”
Tong Jiu finally snapped out of it, looking like he wanted to cry. “Who brings bodyguards to a blind date? Am I hiring a ‘bodyguard of love’?”
The three ran into a dead end. Seeing the bodyguards closing in, Su An and Tong Jiu acted decisively—each used one hand to shove Gu Cheng forward.
Gu Cheng: “???”
Su An: “I’m physically frail, I can’t fight.”
Tong Jiu: “I’m a celebrity, fighting is bad for my image.”
Gu Cheng: “…” Where did the two people who were just fighting so viciously go?
Looking at the bodyguard right in front of him, Gu Cheng waved awkwardly. “Hello.”
Su An and Tong Jiu: Who the hell says “hello” in this situation…
The bodyguard reached for Gu Cheng’s collar, but to everyone’s shock, Gu Cheng dodged with a clever maneuver. Simultaneously, his hand struck the opponent’s pressure point with precise force. The bodyguard’s body went limp, and he fell to one knee.
Gu Cheng lifted his chin high, adopting an insufferably arrogant pose. He crooked his finger at the bodyguard who couldn’t get up. “You—come here!”
Tong Jiu whispered loudly to Su An, “He actually seems to know what he’s doing.”
Gu Cheng turned back with a suave smile and a wink, adding narcissistically, “Sigh, I’m so handsome it’s almost criminal that no one’s stopping me.”
The words had barely left his mouth when a fist, carrying the sound of whistling wind, swung toward him at lightning speed. Gu Cheng barely managed to dodge. The fist grazed his ear and smashed into the wall.
Gu Cheng jumped in fright. “Aaah—!”
He turned his head tremblingly. Under the massive force, a layer of plaster had peeled off the wall, leaving a visible indentation.
Gu Cheng: “I think I just saw my great-grandmother.”
Su An and Tong Jiu: “…”
Fortunately, the restaurant staff had seen the situation spiraling a few minutes ago and wisely chose to call the police. The officers arrived quickly with sirens blaring and rounded up everyone involved.
This included Xia Lianqi and his hulking bodyguards, as well as three “weak and helpless” wretches.
The group was taken to the station. Xia Lianqi and his bodyguards were still arguing heatedly with the officers. However, the spot where they fought happened to be a blind spot for the surveillance cameras, there were no witnesses, and since it was winter, everyone was wearing thick clothes—there wasn’t a single visible mark from the beating Su An and Tong Jiu gave them.
The officers on duty looked at the group of burly, muscular men who looked like thugs, then at the three people squatting in the corner who looked like they couldn’t hurt a fly. They didn’t believe a word the “thugs” were saying.
The three of them squatting in a row by the wall looked quite comical. Su An, sandwiched in the middle, turned to his left to look at Gu Cheng, who was bored and fiddling with his fingers. “Off the clock, huh?”
Gu Cheng gave an embarrassed smile. “The moment I got off work, my mom dragged me here for a blind date.”
Su An turned to his right to look at Tong Jiu, who was staring at the ceiling with an innocent face. “The ‘pervert’ in the black jacket and pants?”
Tong Jiu muttered, “He really was all in black, and he really did touch me.”
“Oh, my ancestors, please stop talking,” Gu Cheng said, exasperated. “You call that touching? I just accidentally brushed your hand when I stood up!”
Just as the two were about to debate whether it was “touching” or not, the call Su An had placed to Yu Feng connected.
Yu Feng asked from the other end, “Are you home yet?”
Su An, currently squatting in a corner after a brawl, felt a pang of guilt. “Well, about that…”
Beside him, Gu Cheng was delighted. The rescue had arrived! He shouted into the phone, “Yu Feng! Your wife is being bullied!”
Yu Feng’s expression changed instantly. He signaled for the meeting to pause and walked out of the conference room. “What did you just say?”
Su An was about to explain, but Gu Cheng snatched the phone. “Yu Feng, your wife got into a fight with Xia Lianqi! We’re at the police station! Come save us!”
Yu Feng hung up the phone. Under the eyes of his staff—filled with confusion, bewilderment, and intense curiosity—he walked back into the room radiating a cold aura. He announced, “The meeting ends here.”
His gaze then landed on Zhou Ran, who was packing up to leave. “Let’s go.”
Zhou Ran stopped his movements and followed behind Yu Feng, puzzled. “President Yu, where are we going?”
Yu Feng’s eyes narrowed slightly, a dangerous aura emanating from him. He said coldly, “To the police station—to catch someone.”
When Yu Feng arrived at the station, he heard the sounds of an argument from inside. “You’re full of crap! The two of you clearly rushed up and started kicking the living daylights out of me!”
Su An put on a look of utter disbelief. “No way. Look at me I’d fall over if the wind blew too hard. How could I possibly beat you up?”
He turned to the police officer as if to prove his innocence, handing over the fresh check-up reports from that afternoon.
“Officer, these are the results from my hospital visit today. Every single one of my physical indicators is below standard; I’m extremely frail. Plus, I sprained my ankle yesterday and it’s still swollen. There is absolutely no way I could do such a thing.” To drive the point home, Su An even slightly lifted his pant leg.
“You!” Every trace of Xia Lianqi’s refined facade had vanished, replaced by a contorted, monstrous expression.
“What about me? You think you can bully people and not let them speak up?” Tong Jiu added from the side. Seeing that Su An was so well-prepared, his confidence surged.
Looking at the “good child” in front of them who had produced so many medical reports, the officers were even more convinced that the “Squatting Trio” were the victims. One turned to Xia Lianqi’s group and said, “The boy is in this condition and you say he bullied you? You’re lucky he isn’t suing you for damages.”
Gu Cheng watched from the side, amazed. These two are absolute legends in combat!
Yu Feng, seeing Su An looking so spirited, realized he hadn’t suffered any loss. His panicked heart finally settled. Gu Cheng saw Yu Feng from a distance and approached with a beaming smile, but Yu Feng didn’t give him a second glance, only dropping a single sentence: “I’ll settle the score with you later.”
Su An, who had been arguing valiantly with Xia Lianqi, wilted the moment he saw Yu Feng. He let out a nervous laugh. “You’re here…”
Yu Feng gave him a flat look and said casually, “If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have known how capable you are rushing into a fight with a sprained ankle.”
Su An pointed an accusing finger. “He bullied me.”
Xia Lianqi shouted, “That’s a lie!”
Yu Feng’s face was as cold as ice, his tone flat and unreadable. “I didn’t expect President Xia to be the type of person who uses numbers to bully the weak.”
He squinted at Xia Lianqi, a cold smirk appearing on his lips. “I’m not one to meddle in other people’s business. However, you bullied my person. How should we settle this debt?”
