- Chapter 3 - None of Your Business
Yu Feng didn’t call for a chauffeur; he drove Su An to a nearby supermarket himself. Upon arriving at the entrance, Su An couldn’t help but marvel that supermarkets in wealthy districts were indeed high-end even the sign was an oversized neon display.
Su An had rarely gone shopping in his previous life. Having grown up in an orphanage, he had to help the “Director Mom” share the burden from a young age. He studied hard and was admitted to a very prestigious university, but because his condition grew increasingly severe later on, he was unable to continue his studies.
“Let’s go,” Yu Feng said, walking to his side after parking the car.
Su An pulled himself out of his thoughts and followed closely behind Yu Feng. It’s fine; at least I’m satisfied with my life now.
Yu Feng told Su An to stay in the snack aisle and not wander off while he went to the fresh food section to buy ingredients for tonight’s dinner.
Was the novel’s villain always this down-to-earth? Su An had assumed he would have some kind of assistant buy everything and deliver it to his house.
Su An pushed his small cart through the dazzling array of shelves. His eyes were overwhelmed; he wanted to eat this, and he wanted to eat that. In short, he wanted everything. He picked up a package of biscuits printed with a complex foreign language. He checked the price, then silently put it back.
Suddenly, he felt a bit “allergic” to biscuits. Why was a box of ordinary biscuits so expensive? Was this a robbery?
“Su An?”
Su An turned toward the voice and saw a man wearing a dark green velvet sweater walking toward him. Searching through the original owner’s memories, Su An identified this person: his university roommate, Song Yixuan. This man had constantly used PUA tactics on the original owner, who was foolish enough to defend him. However, the two hadn’t seen much of each other since graduation.
Su An thought: So much for being a “nobody.” How do I run into an “acquaintance” just by going to the supermarket?
“It really is you!” Song Yixuan said in surprise. “What are you doing here? Ordinary people can’t get into this supermarket.”
As if realizing something, Song Yixuan covered his mouth and lowered his voice. “Do you have a membership for this place? You didn’t sneak in, did you?”
He had seen it just now—Su An picking things up and putting them back. It was obvious he didn’t have the money to buy these things.
“None of your business,” Su An said, glancing at him indifferently before trying to push his cart away.
Song Yixuan hadn’t expected that the formerly submissive Su An would speak to him in such a tone. He suddenly grabbed Su An’s arm, his expression turning aggrieved. “Su An, I’m doing this for your own good. You need a membership card to check out; I can lend you mine.”
Su An sneered. “Back in school, you stayed out every single night. Don’t think I don’t know where your money comes from.”
He tried to shake off the hand, but the other man held on too tightly. Looking at the distorted face in front of him, Su An mocked, “Song Yixuan, why are you pretending to be some wealthy, “good” person? It’s fine to lie to others, but don’t go deceiving yourself.”
At that moment, Song Yixuan suddenly flung Su An’s hand away and collapsed onto the ground. Due to the sudden force, Su An slammed into the shelf behind him with a loud crash.
A man quickly walked over from around the corner. “Yixuan, what happened?”
“Brother Yan, I’m fine. He didn’t do it on purpose.” Song Yixuan supported himself against the shelf as he stood up, looking like the picture of understanding.
Su An was grateful that Yu Feng had wrapped him in thick layers before they left; it had absorbed much of the impact. Hearing the hypocritical words, he offered a sincere suggestion: “Song Yixuan, I think you should join the entertainment industry. You’re quite the actor.”
“You’re the one who pushed him?” Qin Yan noticed Su An standing nearby and rushed forward, intending to teach him a lesson.
Su An chuckled. “Are you his boyfriend?” Without waiting for an answer, he continued, “Did you see me push him?”
Su An took a large step forward and used every ounce of his strength to shove Song Yixuan. Song Yixuan was completely caught off guard and went flying back against the shelf.
Su An folded his arms and looked down at the fallen Song Yixuan. “That is what you call a push. Understand?”
Su An hadn’t wanted to get tangled up with them, but on second thought, why should he swallow his anger? Since they claimed he pushed someone, he might as well show them the real thing.
“You!” Qin Yan hadn’t expected Su An to do that. He raised a hand to deliver a slap.
Just then, a hand blocked the descending blow. Yu Feng had returned from buying the groceries.
“You’re late,” Su An grumbled in a small voice.
“You get bullied and don’t even fight back?” Yu Feng cast a cold glance at the two across from them before turning a concerned gaze toward Su An.
“President Yu, what is the meaning of this?” Qin Yan’s face turned incredibly pale. He hadn’t expected to run into Yu Feng here. Lately, a cooperation project with the Yu Corporation had been hitting wall after wall, leaving Qin Yan exhausted. It was only because Song Yixuan claimed he wanted to take him out to relax that they had come to this supermarket.
“I’d appreciate it if President Qin kept a tighter leash on himself and his dog. It wouldn’t be good if they got out and bit someone,” Yu Feng said. He was smiling, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes, and his tone was laced with danger. “Regarding that cooperation project… the person in charge on our side has taken sick leave. I can’t be bothered to manage it, so I don’t plan to continue the partnership.”
Qin Yan was stunned. A casual sentence from Yu Feng could cause his company massive losses. But Yu Feng didn’t give him another look; he simply took Su An by the hand and walked away.
“Brother Yan…” Song Yixuan had been hit hard and took a while to stand up. He tugged at Qin Yan’s sleeve. “Is it my fault? I didn’t know he would suddenly become like this.” His voice carried a hint of a sob.
Qin Yan had a headache. He said irritably, “It has nothing to do with you.”
In a place where Qin Yan couldn’t see, a vicious light suddenly erupted in Song Yixuan’s eyes.
Yu Feng pulled Su An into a deserted corner.
“Where did he hit you? Let me see,” Yu Feng said.
“Do I look like someone who is easily bullied?” Su An felt Yu Feng was underestimating him. During his time in the hospital, Su An had been very bored and spent his days reading novels. Because of his heart condition, he specifically read “face-slapping” stories to avoid unnecessary stress—tales of rebirth, getting revenge on scumbags, or outcasts returning to the peak of power. He was an expert in every trope. Song Yixuan’s petty tricks were “Bronze-tier” at best; they weren’t even worth his attention.
Seeing Su An’s proud expression, Yu Feng looked pitying. “You really were beaten stupid.”
“You’re the one who’s stupid! He didn’t manage to do anything to me, and I even pushed him down.”
“Good job. Next time you can’t win a fight, remember to call me.”
Noticing Su An’s empty shopping cart, Yu Feng asked, “Why didn’t you buy anything?”
“I suddenly… don’t feel like eating that much.” Su An’s eyes darted around guiltily. Yu Feng understood but didn’t call him out. Under his intentional guidance, they eventually wandered back to the snack aisle.
Yu Feng said, “My treat.”
Su An’s eyes instantly lit up, like a poor child who had just been given his favorite candy. He asked suspiciously, “Really?”
“Fake. Are you going to buy something or not? If not, we’re leaving.” Yu Feng found his expression rather amusing.
Su An hurried to say, “I’ll buy! I’ll buy!” He would be a fool not to take advantage of this, and Su An was no fool. With Yu Feng’s “free pass,” Su An shopped happily, completely forgetting the scene from earlier.
After checking out, they prepared to drive home.
“Happy?” Yu Feng asked.
“Happy! Thank you, Yu Feng. You’re actually a pretty good guy,” Su An chuckled.
Yu Feng replied smoothly, “I’ll accept the first half of that sentence, but you can keep the second half.”
Su An was in a great mood and didn’t argue. “No one has ever bought me snacks before. You’re the first.”
Hearing this, Yu Feng pursed his lips, unsure of how to comfort him.
“Once I earn money in the future, I’m going to do all the things I’ve never done before.” Su An had already decided. Since he had been given a new life, he would fulfill all the dreams he hadn’t been able to achieve. Thinking of this, he looked at Yu Feng with sparkling eyes. “Yu Feng, I have something big to do.”
