God is Being Pampered by the Group - Chapter 7
Chapter 7: You Didn’t Do Well Enough
The Pervert
[“Guan Zhou, you aren’t suited for this profession. You should find another path.”]
These words were far too cruel for someone whose goal was to become a Best Actor.
Perhaps it was to refute that person, perhaps to prove himself, or perhaps… in the three or four years spent struggling at the bottom of the acting world, Guan Zhou had never thought of giving up.
He was simply unwilling to accept it.
The movement in his hands suddenly pulled Guan Zhou back from his thoughts. He saw that Bai Yan had already moved in front of him and pulled Wang Shan’s business card from his hand, seemingly intending to throw it away.
Guan Zhou was instantly shocked and rushed to stop him.
“What are you doing?!”
Bai Yan loosened his fingers, nonchalantly allowing him to successfully take the card back.
“Since it’s useless, why keep it?”
Guan Zhou paused, his gaze lingering on Bai Yan’s stunning face. Though the young man had no expression, Guan Zhou felt as if he could see a hint of concern within it. He couldn’t help but smile; the depression in his heart was swept away in an instant.
He tucked the card away and gave a carefree laugh. “Maybe it’ll be useful in the future? No one can say for sure.”
Guan Zhou raised an eyebrow and teased, “Just like Wang Shan said, maybe you really could enter the entertainment industry.”
At this moment, however, neither of them took the remark to heart.
In the afternoon, filming continued as normal, though the location changed from outdoors to indoors. Furthermore, the female lead a veteran actress made her appearance, so the progress was beyond reproach.
Guan Zhou tried his best to control his gaze so it wouldn’t drift toward the male lead, Qi Yue. He worked hard to perform as an emotionless “wooden stake” of an extra, even though he now knew the other party wasn’t human, but a rat spirit.
Just thinking about this, Guan Zhou felt his reconstructed worldview showing signs of collapsing again; it was simply too fantastical.
Bai Yan, who had caused this scene, didn’t feel the slightest bit of guilt. He simply took out his phone and began his “rookie” gaming journey.
Throughout the afternoon, the set was both serious and quiet. The emotional chemistry between the male and female leads was spot on. After several scenes, the flow was as smooth as drifting clouds and flowing water.
Director Zhou was satisfied, the actors were satisfied, and rarely for today they didn’t have to hear Director Zhou’s roaring. Filming finished early at five in the evening, so everyone was very satisfied.
Guan Zhou changed out of his extra’s costume, collected his daily pay, and walked happily toward Bai Yan.
“Let’s go, time to head home.”
Bai Yan didn’t know what the standard wage for an extra in this world was, but Guan Zhou showed him that he had over 500 yuan.
“Actually, it’s usually not this much. It’s just that for this afternoon’s scene, the director gave me two lines of dialogue, so the pay increased accordingly…”
Guan Zhou explained to Bai Yan as he drove the car out of the Hengdian World Studios where they had spent the day. These were things Guan Zhou was accustomed to, but perhaps because there was now another person beside him, everything seemed to feel a little different.
…
Inside a black business van also driving on the city’s main road, Wang Shan sat in the passenger seat, head lowered as she edited something on her phone. Whenever she thought of that young man she met at the studio today that unforgettable face her heart grew increasingly restless with anticipation.
Wang Shan was already considering how to make an exception to sign him under her own management. Since she was only managing Qi Yue at the moment, she believed the boss wouldn’t have the heart to refuse her.
Oh and it didn’t matter if the kid didn’t know how to act; he could start learning from scratch. A series of “grooming” plans flashed through Wang Shan’s mind, and the more she thought about it, the more excited she became.
The assistant sitting in the back accidentally caught a glimpse of Wang Shan’s expression in the rearview mirror and immediately shuddered.
“Don’t make such a perverted face.”
A voice suddenly rang out in the quiet car. The assistant jumped, thinking he hadn’t been able to hold back his inner thoughts, but then realized it was the “Great Lord” sitting next to him who had spoken.
Qi Yue rested his chin on one hand, facing the window, but his eyes were slanted toward Wang Shan in the front.
Huh? Had she made a perverted expression?
Wang Shan touched her face; her mouth had unconsciously spread into a wide grin. She paused, immediately pulling back her expression and returning to her usual capable and shrewd appearance.
Qi Yue gave a “tsk” and spoke again: “I saw it. You gave out your card.”
“Hmm?” Wang Shan didn’t react for a second.
“Don’t play dumb. At the studio during lunch.”
Only then did Wang Shan remember. She couldn’t help but glance at Qi Yue. She couldn’t read his expression, but Wang Shan knew his true identity. Furthermore, since she was currently his “exclusive” manager, she secretly lamented that her plan to sign the new guy was likely going to fall through.
“It’s probably just a professional habit. It was just a business card; I gave it, so I gave it. When the time comes, I’ll let the company follow the normal procedures.” Wang Shan’s heart was bleeding.
However, after those words, she heard Qi Yue say:
“No, I’m saying, well done.”
“Huh?”
While Wang Shan was completely bewildered, Qi Yue added: “You still didn’t do well enough. You should have gotten the other person’s contact information as well.”
Wang Shan said subconsciously: “I can find that out with a quick check, right?”
“Good, then go and do it.”
Qi Yue spoke as if issuing a command.
Wang Shan: “…”
After a good while, Wang Shan finally recovered from this reversal and couldn’t help but glance at the “Great Lord” again, gradually beginning to savor the situation.
How should she put it? Could it be that he was also interested in that kid?
Wang Shan remembered that the only reason she noticed the young man in the first place was because Qi Yue was paying extra attention to him… Regardless, it seemed like her idea of signing him still had a chance!
Wang Shan was secretly delighted. She immediately whipped out her phone and contacted Director Zhou from the film crew.
“Want Guan Zhou’s contact info? …Okay, wait a second, I’ll ask around first.”
On the other end, Director Zhou hung up the phone and called an assistant to check. All the extras who signed up left contact information. Afterward, Director Zhou rubbed his chin, unable to help feeling curious.
Looking at Qi Yue’s behavior at noon, it didn’t seem like the boy knew the stranger. Now his manager, Wang Shan, was specifically asking for Guan Zhou’s contact info. Could it be that kid Guan Zhou’s luck was finally changing?
In the black business van, Wang Shan successfully obtained Guan Zhou’s contact info but didn’t send a message immediately. She had said at noon that the kid should think it over, but she didn’t believe she would be rejected.
As one of the three major entertainment companies in the Wencheng district, Yiyun Media Group was a place where countless young people with acting dreams longed to squeeze in to make a name for themselves. She believed that “cousin” would understand this even better.
Suddenly remembering something, Wang Shan silently glanced at Qi Yue again. Seeing that he wasn’t paying attention, she lowered her eyes and opened a certain account among her phone contacts, labeled with the word “Boss.”
She clicked it, edited some text, and hit send.
Daily Status Report.
Wang Shan was not only Qi Yue’s celebrity manager but also the “exclusive” manager directly assigned to Qi Yue by this “Boss.”
