Chapter 16: Another Member Added to the Tiny Dwelling
You Must Behave and Listen
As they drew closer, Guan Zhou finally recognized Qiu Chiyi’s familiar face. His angry stride faltered, and the two men stared at each other for half a second before simultaneously turning to Bai Yan and saying:
“Go back/upstairs first.”
Bai Yan looked at Qiu Chiyi, then at Guan Zhou, and nodded.
Once Bai Yan’s figure had disappeared into the apartment complex, Guan Zhou turned his attention back to Qiu Chiyi in the driver’s seat.
“Why is it you?”
“Why wouldn’t it be me?”
Qiu Chiyi rested an arm on the lowered window, showing no intention of getting out of the car.
Guan Zhou scratched his head. “I thought…”
“Thought someone had abducted your ‘distant cousin,’ right?” One look at Guan Zhou’s expression and Qiu Chiyi knew exactly what he was thinking.
Guan Zhou shrugged and gave a wide grin. “If it’s you, then I’m relieved.”
“Bullshit!” Qiu Chiyi cursed directly, leaving Guan Zhou stunned for two seconds. Then Qiu Chiyi added: “Do you know where I found him?”
Guan Zhou was still blank-faced: “Where?”
Qiu Chiyi: “Over in the West district.”
Now it was Guan Zhou’s turn to lose his cool. He said urgently, “Why would Bai Yan go there? He didn’t run into any trouble, did he?”
Qiu Chiyi let out a scoff, his eyes cutting toward Guan Zhou with heavy reproach.
“I should be asking you that. He’s a newcomer and doesn’t know better—didn’t you, as his guardian, give him a warning?”
Guan Zhou was filled with regret. He hadn’t expected that while Bai Yan looked quiet and steady, he would wander off to such a far and dangerous place the very first time he went out alone. He blamed himself for not being thorough.
“Alright, just pay more attention in the future. It’s lucky I happened to be over there on business,” Qiu Chiyi said.
Guan Zhou nodded solemnly. Even if Qiu Chiyi hadn’t said it, he would have done so.
Qiu Chiyi waved a hand, left a quick “I’ve got things to do, gotta go,” and started the car.
Guan Zhou stood there watching the car drive off before turning to enter the complex.
…
On the other side, before Bai Yan could reach his building, he was intercepted.
The person blocking his path was a girl. Bai Yan found her familiar; after all, he had seen her just this morning on the balcony of the neighboring building.
Luo Miaoxi’s breathing was slightly rapid, her heart racing. To avoid missing the divine little brother again, she had been staking out the bottom of the building since morning. After waiting all day, she finally saw the figure she longed for appear in her field of vision.
At first glance, she thought it was an illusion, but as he drew closer, the face wearing the hat and mask was exactly the same as in the video.
In a fit of excitement, she blocked the divine little brother’s path. Now, seeing him look at her, Luo Miaoxi felt a wave of embarrassment and hurriedly began to explain herself.
“…So, Yang Xinran.that’s the uploader didn’t expect the video to get so much attention either. She just made it on a whim…”
At the same time, Luo Miaoxi mentioned the message Yang Xinran had asked her to convey: deleting the video, apologizing, and so on. In just one day, because of Bai Yan, a “revolutionary friendship” had begun to form between the two young girls.
At some point, Guan Zhou arrived at Bai Yan’s side. After listening to the girl’s explanation of the cause and effect, his brow furrowed.
He hadn’t even known this was happening. Should he say the uploader had a keen eye for talent, or that she was just bored? In a “street robbery incident” where everyone else was focused on the “hero” fighting the robber, she specifically picked out Bai Yan, who was standing to the side wearing a hat and mask. Guan Zhou personally thought he wasn’t bad-looking himself.
However, despite this being a coincidental and somewhat absurd event, Guan Zhou couldn’t help but let his mind wander. He thought the uploader’s eyes were quite sharp—his silver-haired beauty truly was that good-looking.
Since Bai Yan now had identity information in this world, there was no need to worry about exposure. The only issue was his attraction to spirits and demons, but over the internet, even if a demon accidentally saw Bai Yan’s video, they wouldn’t be so perverted as to smell his “scent” through a screen…
So, this matter shouldn’t have any real impact on Bai Yan. It was just a partial exposure online. In this age of big data, there’s so much news every day that netizens would probably forget about it in a couple of days.
Thinking this, Guan Zhou turned to Bai Yan and asked, “How do you want to handle this?”
Luo Miaoxi, carrying Yang Xinran’s request, looked at Bai Yan nervously.
Under their gazes, Bai Yan paused for a moment. He didn’t have much of a reaction, simply saying flatly: “Just leave it be.”
Guan Zhou’s brow relaxed, though he was a bit troubled. His silver-haired beauty was simply too innocent and kind; if a bad person came along, he wouldn’t even know he was being sold—he might even help them count the money.
Turning around, he saw the girl’s eyes still glued to Bai Yan as if she couldn’t bear to look away. Guan Zhou raised an eyebrow.
“Alright, we won’t pursue this. If you want to keep the video up, keep it.”
Look at the time—getting back to cook for Bai Yan was the priority.
Luo Miaoxi was overjoyed. She didn’t care that her small crush hadn’t been acknowledged; her starry-eyed gaze remained on Bai Yan until he and Guan Zhou entered the building and vanished from sight. Only then did she reluctantly look away.
In a great mood, Luo Miaoxi hummed a song while taking out her phone to message Yang Xinran.
…
Back in the tiny one-bedroom apartment, Guan Zhou stopped focusing on what the girl had said and instead fixed his gaze on the black cat in Bai Yan’s arms.
He had noticed it from the start but hadn’t had the chance to deal with it. Since Bai Yan was holding it, he only had time now.
This cat… wasn’t it the cat demon from last night? When did it get onto Bai Yan? Thinking of his silver-haired beauty’s innocent nature, Guan Zhou’s gaze gradually became dangerous.
The black cat, however, was now completely emboldened. Having received Bai Yan’s approval to stay, it wasn’t afraid to show itself in front of Guan Zhou. It stayed quiet and well-behaved in Bai Yan’s arms.
Sensing Guan Zhou’s dangerous gaze, the black cat lifted its head like a victorious rooster. But in the next second, its body was suddenly airborne
“This cat has been a stray for who knows how long; it must be covered in diseases. Bai Yan, don’t hold it anymore. Watch out for infections.”
Guan Zhou pinched the scruff of the black cat’s neck, plucked it out of Bai Yan’s arms, and tossed it aside.
The black cat spun twice in the air and landed steadily. Then it heard those slightly familiar words. Thinking back, wasn’t this almost the same as the slander this man used when they first met last night?!
The black cat was about to retaliate when it saw Guan Zhou crouch down in front of it. He stared at it and said, “The missing ingredients in the house that you were doing, wasn’t it?”
The black cat… instantly lost its bravado.
“Since you’re a demon, I won’t say much about how you snuck in; I probably couldn’t stop you anyway. But there is one rule you must understand: if you want to stay here, you have to be obedient and listen to understand?”
Guan Zhou saw Bai Yan’s attitude toward the cat demon, and he also saw that the cat demon would likely shamelessly stay no matter what. Rather than letting the demon hide in the shadows and watch them, it was better to keep it under open supervision where he could see it.
But there was one thing: he had to ensure this cat demon wouldn’t hurt Bai Yan.
The black cat looked at Bai Yan, then turned back to see the incredibly serious expression on Guan Zhou’s face. It felt that if it gave the wrong answer, it could forget about staying by Bai Yan’s side at the very least, this human would definitely block it!!
As for the choice, was there even a need to speak?
The black cat didn’t mind the issue of being obedient; it would definitely be 100% obedient toward Bai Yan. It didn’t hesitate to say: “I promise you.”
Feeling that wasn’t enough, the black cat added: “I swear.”
Guan Zhou nodded and ignored the cat demon, turning toward the kitchen. Having been delayed for so long, Bai Yan must be starving; he had to hurry and make dinner…
Just as he was entering the kitchen, Guan Zhou’s steps suddenly stopped. He turned to see the black cat already itching to run back to Bai Yan. His gaze sharpened, and he said eerily:
“By the way, things are different here than when you were a stray. If your body isn’t clean, keep off Bai Yan.”
Black cat: “…Understood.”
Its ears flattened into “airplane mode.” The black cat stared at Guan Zhou with a look of deep grievance until he disappeared into the kitchen.
However, the black cat knew very well in its heart that Guan Zhou was simply over-concerned about Bai Yan.
At the same time, the black cat vaguely realized that this man was definitely the biggest obstacle to its closeness with its Master!!!
But considering how much he cared for the Master, it would reluctantly acknowledge him for now…
