God is Being Pampered by the Group - Chapter 15
Chapter 15: Kindred Spirits
A Hitchhiked Ride
The black cat’s fur bristled, and its golden pupils constricted into thin vertical slits.
This is one of my kind!
The black cat reached a conclusion, finally identifying the source of that uncomfortable sensation.
Immediately, the cat arched its back, baring its fangs and assuming a posture as if facing a formidable enemy. That is, until a palm landed on its back, stroking it slowly and smoothing down the bristled fur.
The black cat paused. Its nose twitched slightly, catching that wonderful scent again—it felt as if it were bathing in a warm ocean. Gradually, it calmed down.
Looking back at the main stage, because the elevator was continuously rising, the human-looking kindred spirit had shrunk to the size of a thumb in the cat’s eyes. However, that gaze never disappeared.
The other party was also watching them.
The black cat suddenly remembered something and quickly looked up at Bai Yan, who was holding it, then back at the kindred spirit. For some reason, the other party remained seated quietly.
The black cat felt an inexplicable sense of relief, but its gaze sharpened again instantly as it stared at the kindred spirit it wouldn’t allow anyone to share with its Master!
The black cat made this firm, secret vow.
Bai Yan, unaware of the cat’s inner monologue, idly stroked its fur. He wasn’t surprised by the cat’s reaction at all.
Because in his eyes, the man sitting in a seat on the main stage, meeting his gaze—
Was a fox spirit.
Having seen a rat spirit, seeing a fox spirit now was nothing to be surprised about. Besides, he was currently holding a cat demon in his arms.
The elevator finally reached the top floor and came to a slow stop. With a ding, the doors opened.
Another security guard stood outside, surrounded by restless young people, just like downstairs. This guard was equally cold and ruthless.
However, as Bai Yan stepped out, two girls nearby were nudging each other. Eventually, they walked toward Bai Yan together.
They had smiles on their faces and shallow dimples; they looked like sisters with similar features.
“Um, excuse me, sorry to bother you…”
Bai Yan stopped, turned slightly, and looked at the two girls who had called out to him.
The girls froze for a moment. Even though the mask covered his face, those pale golden eyes and snowy, long, curled eyelashes… reflected in the girls’ eyes, causing their hearts to throb for an instant.
It wasn’t until Bai Yan’s voice brought them back to their senses that they stammered out:
“Um, did you take any photos when you were in the elevator? If it’s okay, could… Could you share them with us?”
Unfortunately, Bai Yan shook his head. The girls became visibly dejected.
Bai Yan gave a slight nod and then walked away.
After he had walked far enough, the girls regained their composure and suddenly felt a sense of regret. This time, however, the regret wasn’t over not getting the photos, but over Bai Yan walking away. They thought they perhaps should have asked for his contact information…
At the press conference in the first-floor hall, Zuo Chengyi withdrew his gaze. A tiny cat demon wasn’t worth his attention, but the person holding the cat demon…
Zuo Chengyi’s eyes flickered slightly, lost in thought.
…
The sun gradually sank toward the west, and orange-red clouds began to cover large swathes of the sky, painting half of it red, a spectacular and magnificent sight.
Under this sky lay a low-rise residential area apartment-style housing converted from private homes. Dim streetlights, narrow corridors, and trash everywhere.
Clearly, security here was a concern, and management was chaotic; it was a veritable “danger zone.”
As the sun began to tilt westward before fully setting, shadows already blanketed this cluster of buildings.
Suddenly, a thud sounded in an alleyway. As the camera zoomed in, several figures could be seen curled on the ground, letting out painful groans.
Qiu Chiyi held a snatched dagger in one hand and crouched down in front of a leader-type, patting the man’s face with the cold, gleaming blade.
“You thought I looked like an easy target because I’m alone?”
“You actually dared to eye me. Not bad, you’ve got guts.”
The man seemed to want to say something. By now, he realized he had misjudged his target and run into a “hard stubble,” paying a price for it.
Qiu Chiyi pressed the dagger down slightly.
“I don’t want to hear your nonsense. You know the rules, right?”
The man paused and said with some difficulty: “I… I don’t know what you’re talking about…”
“Ha, do you take me for a fool?”
Qiu Chiyi kicked him directly, watching him curl up like a shrimp. He then swept his gaze around. The few people secretly watching from the sides trembled instantly. Ignoring their pain, they hurried to offer up their wallets.
Qiu Chiyi opened the wallets one by one. There were no IDs, only cash of varying amounts. It wasn’t much; the most was only a little over two thousand yuan.
Qiu Chiyi tucked the money into his pocket with a look of disdain, tossed the wallets aside, and turned to look at the stubborn leader.
“Do I do it, or do you?”
A moment later, Qiu Chiyi walked out of the dim alley with his hands in his pockets.
However, before he could get very far, he suddenly paused and looked toward the bus stop across two streets.
A somewhat familiar figure stood there with his back turned, long silvery-white hair visible from the edge of a hat.
Bai Yan was looking at the bus stop sign.
It was now after five in the afternoon. Having been out all day, it was time for him to go back. He couldn’t just board any bus randomly like he did earlier when he had no destination.
Bai Yan checked the navigation and the bus sign, confirming the route home.
However, before the bus arrived, a black sedan pulled up first and slowed to a stop in front of him.
The window rolled down halfway, revealing a familiar face Qiu Chiyi.
The one who had used the back door to help get Bai Yan’s ID information a few days ago, Guan Zhou’s college roommate, and a police officer.
He glanced at the black cat in Bai Yan’s arms, then beckoned to him:
“Get in. I’ll take you back.”
The ride was silent.
When they were almost home, Qiu Chiyi spoke: “Out by yourself today?”
Seeing Bai Yan respond, he continued: “What were you doing over there? That area has chaotic security and frequent petty crimes; it’s especially bad at night. Luckily you ran into me.”
Bai Yan: “…”
Is he complimenting himself in a roundabout way?
Qiu Chiyi seemed unaware of it. Having found a suitable topic, he began to talk incessantly, sounding like a “Guan Zhou Version 2.0.”
Bai Yan turned his gaze out the window, expertly letting the words go in one ear and out the other.
Qiu Chiyi paused slightly, seeing Bai Yan’s profile in the rearview mirror. His cheek was hidden by the mask; only those snowy, long, curled eyelashes and the pale golden eyes, as brilliant as a starry sky, were visible…
Qiu Chiyi suddenly recalled that when he searched the addresses and information Guan Zhou had given him, he found that there was no such person as Bai Yan.
It was as if he had simply appeared out of thin air.
…
When Guan Zhou returned from the studio, it was already after seven in the evening.
Because the male lead was either out of it or something was wrong, Director Zhou’s voice had gone hoarse from shouting “Cut” all day, causing the entire schedule to be delayed until now.
Guan Zhou sneered inwardly. It felt great watching that rat spirit get roared at by the director. That’s what you get for constantly eyeing Bai Yan, hmph!
As soon as he finished work, Guan Zhou immediately pulled out his phone. Seeing no message from a certain silver-haired beauty, his face fell instantly.
I don’t know if he went crazy playing outside or what… I have to give him a good talking-to when I get back… Guan Zhou muttered to himself.
But when he reached the old neighborhood, he saw a black sedan parked at the entrance, and the person stepping out… wasn’t it the very Bai Yan he’d been nagging about all day?!
Guan Zhou’s eyes widened, and he rushed over in a few steps. He wanted to see who had abducted his innocent and lovely silver-haired beauty!
Then, Qiu Chiyi watched curiously as Guan Zhou walked over angrily, his brow suddenly twitching.
He hadn’t even settled the score yet! How could Guan Zhou let Bai Yan appear in a dangerous area alone? What if he encountered danger?
Even a sturdy man like himself had been surrounded and robbed, let alone Bai Yan. As a “cousin,” Guan Zhou should have taken his responsibility seriously.
