God is Being Pampered by the Group - Chapter 17
Chapter 17: A Bustling Morning
“Go investigate him.”
Night. Inside a black business van traveling on the highway.
Wang Shan sat in the passenger seat, her gaze slanted toward the rearview mirror. Reflected in the glass was a face radiating a clear, low-pressure aura of gloom. Beside him, the young assistant didn’t dare to breathe too loudly, fearing the slightest sound.
After a pause, Wang Shan recalled the scene from earlier that day and said: “What did you say to Guan Zhou? Did his cousin agree to enter the entertainment industry? When can we sign the contract?”
Wang Shan was exceptionally excited whenever this topic came up, accidentally asking too many questions at once, as if she couldn’t wait to see that beautiful young man appear before her.
Then, remembering something else, she added: “Oh, also, why didn’t Xiao cough, Guan Zhou’s cousin came to the film set today?”
While giving her daily report on Qi Yue’s situation, Wang Shan had mentioned this matter to the boss. Both expectedly and unexpectedly, the boss didn’t say much, but the underlying implication was that she could make an exception and sign him. This news had nearly made Wang Shan burst with joy.
So, seeing Qi Yue’s somber expression now didn’t ruin Wang Shan’s good mood in the slightest.
However, seeing that Qi Yue’s face showed no sign of improvement and in fact, grew a shade darker—Wang Shan’s heart skipped a beat. That Guan Zhou didn’t offend this lord, did he? Is my signing plan going to fail here? That won’t do.
Wang Shan thought for a moment, suppressed her own fluttering excitement, and said carefully after weighing her words:
“I think his cousin’s appearance is excellent; it would be a pity if he didn’t enter the industry. If we cultivate and promote him, he’ll definitely be a massive fan-magnet with a limitless future. It would be very beneficial for the company, too.”
Wang Shan knew the man wouldn’t care about the last sentence, but since Qi Yue himself was an actor in the company, every bit of leverage helped. Regardless, Wang Shan wasn’t going to give up on signing him until the very last moment.
Glancing at his face in the mirror again, Wang Shan recalled how this young master had shown interest in the boy from the very beginning. Her eyes rolled slightly as she spoke again:
“Moreover, if I successfully sign him, you two will be seniors and juniors in the same company. You’ll be able to see each other often, and perhaps he’ll even need you to look after him a bit…”
It must be said that Wang Shan had accidentally hit the nail on the head regarding Qi Yue’s psychology.
As she spoke, she saw Qi Yue finally react in the mirror. He lifted his head slightly, his somber gaze meeting Wang Shan’s through the glass. For a split second, Wang Shan felt as if she were looking at a predatory beast.
Usually, Qi Yue acted like a human perhaps a bit fierce, but still within human bounds. But now, Wang Shan felt the same terror she had when she first met him and learned he wasn’t human.
After a moment, Qi Yue’s gaze retracted and softened, no longer radiating that gloomy, low-pressure aura. The assistant beside him, though confused, let out a sigh of relief at this.
Qi Yue spoke: “Your idea is going to fall through.”
Wang Shan: “…Huh?”
Qi Yue sneered: “Can’t you understand human speech?”
Wang Shan hurriedly snapped back to reality: “I understand, I understand!” But are you even human?
She didn’t dare say that last part aloud as she gradually processed the news.
“Fall through? You mean his cousin refused? He doesn’t want to enter the industry? He refused such a great opportunity??” Wang Shan couldn’t believe it.
Qi Yue sneered again, but there was no hint of a smile in his eyes just a vast darkness. His low mood hadn’t improved; it was merely suppressed.
“An idiot. He can’t get it himself, so he doesn’t want anyone else to have it. A clown making trouble.”
Wang Shan, waiting for an explanation: “…Huh?”
Who’s the idiot? Who’s the clown? Are we talking about the same thing?
Qi Yue added: “Go investigate him.”
Wang Shan’s brain struggled to keep up with the logic: “…What?”
Then, she received a look of disdain from Qi Yue. He dropped two words as if they were gold:
“Guan Zhou.”
Wang Shan nodded quickly, unwilling to receive any more looks that treated her like she was mentally challenged… but why investigate Guan Zhou?
She still didn’t understand. But based on what he said, did Guan Zhou’s cousin refuse a bright future in the entertainment industry because of Guan Zhou?
…So, what exactly happened?
Wang Shan blinked in confusion.
…
Over on Bai Yan and Guan Zhou’s side, the night passed peacefully.
In the morning, Guan Zhou was woken up by a weight. In his dream, it felt like a mountain was pressing down on him, making it nearly impossible to breathe.
Struggling to open his eyes, he was met with a patch of black fluff. That cat demon was lying right on his chest. Who knows how long it had been pressing there; no wonder he felt so uncomfortable and his sleep was disturbed.
“Get off.”
Before Guan Zhou could swipe his hand, the black cat leaped up onto a cabinet. It looked down at him from a height, a look of triumph in its human-like cat eyes. It was clearly intentional.
Guan Zhou: “…”
He regretted it. He wondered if he could humanely dispose of this cat demon before Bai Yan woke up and then make up an excuse like, “The cat demon didn’t want to stay and already left.”
Inside the bedroom, Bai Yan was lying in bed with his eyes still closed, but his ears could already hear the bustling noise outside, sounding like a chaotic mess.
The door creaked open, and Bai Yan’s figure appeared at the bedroom entrance. He leaned slightly against the doorframe, his silky, waterfall-like silver hair falling over his chest and back. His snowy, thick eyelashes were long and curled, and his pale golden eyes were slightly narrowed, reflecting a sense of indifferent infinity.
Guan Zhou let go of the black cat in his hands and gave a sheepish smile. Several scratch marks were clearly visible on his handsome face.
“Did we wake you?”
The black cat sat obediently to the side: “Meow~”
Bai Yan: “…”
Breakfast was served for three. Although he deeply regretted letting the cat demon stay, the situation was already a reality. Guan Zhou could only silently swallow this bitter pill.
Originally, he wanted to give the cat demon cat food, intending to insincerely say, “There’s no cat food at home, I’ll go out and buy some later; it’s fine to skip one meal,” acting all “green tea” style.
In the end, the black cat seemed to see through his sinister intentions. It rubbed against Bai Yan’s arm acting spoiled: “Actually, I can eat human food.”
Where Bai Yan couldn’t see, the man and the cat glared at each other, the air seemingly crackling with sparks. Then they turned their heads away at the same time—Hmph.
Bai Yan, who actually saw through everything: “…”
The cat’s age is probably only a few years old in human terms. Guan Zhou, aren’t you being too childish competing for favor with a child?
Childish-Guan-Zhou-Aged-Three didn’t want to say much. He looked in the bathroom mirror and felt he had been disfigured by the cat demon. He needed comfort from his silver-haired beauty.
“…”
The doorbell rang. Wondering who would possibly be looking for him since no one usually did, Guan Zhou opened the door to see the stylishly dressed girl with short hair standing outside, a bright smile on her face.
It was Luo Miaoxi from yesterday.
“Hi, neighbor! I’ve come to visit.”
The girl waved her hand, acting completely like she was at home. However, your house is in a different building; calling yourself a ‘neighbor’ isn’t quite right, is it?
But Luo Miaoxi was clearly thick-skinned. She pulled a food container from behind her and walked into the room past Guan Zhou without invitation, curiously looking around while speaking:
“As an apology, these are dumplings my family wrapped this morning. They’re super authentic in flavor~”
When the girl saw Bai Yan on the sofa, her eyes visibly lit up.
He wasn’t wearing his hat or mask. His peerless beauty was clearly visible, silver hair falling down, skin fair as jade. In the sunlight streaming from the balcony, he looked so beautiful it seemed unreal.
