- When the Major General Omega Picked Up a Little Snake Alpha
- Chapter 17 - laying the Good Boy
Luo Qi’s tone was incredibly gentle. Born from an adult’s protective care for a “young creature,” it carried a hint of sweet affection.
To Fang Xi, however, the scene was entirely different.
A youngster? No, that was a sinister, calculating Alpha snake!
He had encountered many mutant monsters in his time. Never had he seen one as “human-like” as this creature.
There was something seriously wrong with this snake.
Fang Xi stood at the door, unable to calm his racing heart for a long while.
Rumors about Luo Qi ran rampant in the outside world, some even describing him as a loose Omega with countless lovers. But Fang Xi knew better. His General was pure and untouchable, and no Alpha dared to get close.
Except for him. He was a Beta, and the General’s personal attendant. Only he had the chance—
“Fang Xi?” Luo Qi’s voice broke through his turbulent thoughts. “Why are you just standing there?”
Fang Xi wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. “It’s nothing, Sir.”
Luo Qi sensed something was off with him instantly, though he couldn’t put his finger on the cause.
“Is there something urgent you need to tell me?” Luo Qi patted the empty space beside him. “Sit.”
Fang Xi sat cross-legged on the edge of the foam mat. He watched as the sinister snake head rested against the General’s stomach, its tongue flicking across the silk fabric of his clothes.
He could actually see a sense of “attachment” in its eyes.
It was uncanny.
“What exactly is on your mind?”
“Nothing,” Fang Xi said, his lips tight and his voice level. “I just came to check on you.”
“I’m fine. What’s there to check?”
“Governor Xue contacted me last night,” Fang Xi said. “He likely wanted to gauge your stance.”
“I messaged him yesterday and he replied saying he understood,” Luo Qi said casually, leaning back. “I’m not going to marry Xue Ying.”
Fang Xi looked down at the floor.
Of course the General wouldn’t be interested in Xue Ying. He knew the General well. The strong were often arrogant, and the General detested arrogance. As for the weak, they didn’t even register in his eyes.
But that snake…
“Sir,” he finally couldn’t help but ask, “why is this snake out of its enclosure?”
“I’m teaching Xiao Hei how to play with blocks,” Luo Qi said, his expression softening as the topic turned to the snake. “He built that.”
He pointed toward the headless python. “Xiao Hei, just a few pieces left. Go bring them over.”
The little snake cooperated, slithering off his lap and wrinkling his clothes in the process. Luo Qi didn’t mind at all, letting his hand rest lightly on the snake’s tail as it slid away.
The slippery tail curled upward, wrapping around his palm and sliding into his hand, its belly writhing slightly before slowly pulling away.
It seemed reluctant to leave.
Witnessing this, Fang Xi gripped his knees tightly, suppressing his emotions. If that snake wasn’t flirting with its tail, he’d eat his hat.
The General was simply too innocent; he hadn’t noticed anything unusual at all.
“He really is very smart,” Luo Qi smiled. “Watch.”
The “smart” Xiao Hei slithered toward the blocks. The largest piece was a bit further away, right next to Fang Xi’s right leg.
As its sleek, black body glided across the floor, its head tilted toward Fang Xi. Its jaw opened slightly, and its pupils fixed on him like nails.
Those cold, vertical slits flashed with a dark light, as if it might lunge and tear his throat open the very next second.
This wasn’t a little snake; it was a terrifying monster from the abyss.
Fang Xi’s back tensed, only to see the snake close its mouth as if letting out a yawn before lazily continuing its crawl.
“Fang Xi, what is wrong with you today?”
Fang Xi didn’t hear him. He let out a shaky breath, his chest heaving unevenly. He glanced at the snake, which was now coiling its body around the largest block, moving slowly and dropping it every two steps.
It looked clumsy and dim-witted. But Fang Xi’s sharp intuition told him it was all an act.
This snake had threatened him.
And it was playing the “good boy” right in front of the General.
“Fang Xi?”
“It’s nothing.” Fang Xi rubbed his forehead again. “I just didn’t sleep well last night.”
“Are you sick?” Luo Qi reached out, intending to feel his forehead. “You’re a doctor, take care of yourself.”
“I’m not sick, really, I’m fine.” Fang Xi instinctively moved aside, dodging the hand.
Seeing his resistance, Luo Qi didn’t press further.
The little snake was now dragging the block back. As the wooden piece rolled toward Fang Xi’s foot, he quickly pulled his leg back.
It was an instinctive reflex. Just one glare was all it took for fear and jealousy to take root in his heart.
He was actually jealous and afraid of a snake. It was truly bizarre.
The little snake stretched its head forward, hooked the block, and continued onward without giving Fang Xi another glance. It made his nervousness look ridiculous, and he felt completely overshadowed.
The snake returned to Luo Qi’s side, pressing its body against his slender toes and placing the block onto his pale instep. It raised its little head, leaning against Luo Qi’s knee and begging for a pat.
“Good boy, so impressive.” Luo Qi rubbed its body and let the snake coil around his wrist. “See? Isn’t he smart? Xiao Hei really is adorable.”
He seemed eager for Fang Xi’s approval.
“Yeah…”
Fang Xi had a delicate, clean-cut face. Usually, he was quite stoic, only showing emotion when interacting with Luo Qi. Now, however, his expression was extremely uneasy. He bit his lower lip, his gaze darting around anxiously.
“Fang Xi,” Luo Qi said, cradling the snake in his arms. “What is it you actually want to say?”
Fang Xi glanced at Luo Qi again. The snake was staring at him again, even baring its fangs. But as soon as he blinked, its mouth was closed.
“Sir… have you had a veterinarian look at this snake yet?”
“No, and I don’t plan on handing him over to anyone,” Luo Qi said, stroking its head. “I’m going to make him my legal pet.”
“A legal pet? But he’s an Alpha.”
“Don’t worry, I have a way. You need to keep this a secret.”
“Fine,” Fang Xi nodded gloomily. “Understood.”
The General held the snake with one hand while finishing the last few pieces of the block set with the other. It was a miniature version of an adult giant python, looking quite majestic.
Fang Xi stayed in the activity room to chat for a bit longer before making an excuse to leave.
Standing at the front gate of the General’s estate, Fang Xi looked back at the palace-like mansion with a heart full of mixed emotions. After following the General for so many years, he never expected to be upstaged by a snake.
He was supposed to be the one by the General’s side. Even Luo Xiaoyu didn’t compare.
He recalled the sight he had just seen—a sight he had never witnessed before. The General’s doting smile was so relaxed and joyful.
It was an eyesore. But the General loved it. At the very least, Fang Xi felt he was better than Jiang Luoyi.
Fang Xi stood at the gate for a long time before finally leaving, looking deeply preoccupied.
Luo Qi stood by the window of the activity room, watching the car drive away.
“What do you think is up with him?” Luo Qi asked, stroking the snake on his wrist.
The little snake guiltily tucked its head into his sleeve, peeking out to study the human’s face. Luo Qi stood by the window for a long time, his brow slightly furrowed in worry.
The snake grew a bit displeased. It squeezed tighter and licked the junction of his wrist and palm, trying to pull his attention back.
“Little Fruit” was ticklish right there.
“Stop that,” Little Fruit said, pinching the snake’s cheeks. “Come on, let’s go put things away.”
The robots had brought in Luo’s father’s gifts the previous night, and they were piled in the hall. Little Fruit took the snake down to unwrap the packages.
They were statues carved from crystal—all animals: a leopard, a lion, an eagle, and a snake. These stones were from the mines of the North Star. They shimmered with different colors depending on the angle.
They were indeed extremely precious stones. The snake could even sense the energy field within them, which resonated with its own spiritual power. They were crystals fallen from extra-galactic meteorites.
However, Luo Qi just walked around them a few times, took some photos, and didn’t pay them much mind.
After tidying up, he took the snake out to the lawn in the front yard and found a garden chair to sit on. The snake poked its head out from his sleeve to continue studying the human’s expression.
Little Fruit really cared about that Beta.
The snake realized it had been careless. It had been so focused on guarding against human Alphas that it had completely forgotten about Betas!
If it had known, it would have planted something on that Beta earlier to ensure he wouldn’t make it home alive.
Tear them apart. I’ll tear them all apart.
“Fang Xi has been with me since I first boarded the ship.” Little Fruit gazed at the iron gates, looking nostalgic. “Come to think of it, I’ve always overlooked my relationship with him. We’re more than just friends.”
The snake’s swaying head went rigid.
More than just friends?
What else could you be?!
Could Little Fruit suddenly… be interested in a weakling Beta like that!!??
“He’s always been by my side for so long that his presence became a habit,” Little Fruit said, stroking the snake’s body. “Like drinking water or eating food.”
But the snake’s body was stiff as a board. If Luo Qi looked down now, he would see two pathetic little eyes staring at him with a “begging” look.
He let out a long sigh toward the sky. “Do you think I should…”
The snake hooked its tail and desperately drew an “X” in the air, but unfortunately, Little Fruit didn’t see it.
“Should I give him a raise?”
