Basement.
The man’s back was rigid, his fingers clenched tightly, his face dark and gloomy, radiating an intense aura of violence.
He stared fixedly at the scene before him.
He watched as the man used a knife to split the skin on the bound man’s back into two halves, slowly separating the skin from the muscle with the blade.
Flesh and blood were mangled, blood splattered everywhere.
Yet the man remained as steady as a god, seemingly unbothered by the gruesome sight.
“President Fu, please, just kill me,” the tortured man pleaded in agony.
The man let out a light chuckle, a pleased hum escaping his throat, as he casually glanced at his phone.
The agonizing screams seemed to serve as a peculiar backdrop.
His baby still hadn’t replied to his messages.
He would have to coax her properly later.
Screams echoed one after another, blood splattered freely.
A long time later, as if unable to endure any more torment, the man’s screams finally ceased. Fu Chengyan let out a soft laugh.
He stepped over the corpse, walked through the blood, and closed the basement door.
No one knew what had happened that day.
He cleaned up nonchalantly, making sure not a trace of blood lingered on him before returning to their home.
As expected, the girl was sitting cross-legged on the sofa, leisurely watching TV, with an assortment of snacks scattered around her legs.
Somehow, the violent urge in his heart eased.
He went over, wrapped his arms around her waist, lifted her onto his lap, and buried his face in the crook of her neck, nuzzling affectionately. “I missed you so much, baby.”
Li Muli glanced at him sharply and asked perceptively, “Why did you take a shower?”
“My clothes were dirty, baby.”
Li Muli gave him a haughty look, snuggled comfortably into his embrace, and casually picked up a snack to feed him.
The man simply accepted it with a smile, as if the brutal and cruel man from earlier was not him.
He made no further moves, simply holding the girl quietly, occasionally kissing her hair.
Suddenly, his phone rang. Fu Chengyan’s expression shifted, instantly turning gloomy.
“Chengyan, tomorrow is your birthday. Come home early for the gathering.”
“Heh, sure.”
After hanging up, the man grew even more silent. Li Muli faced him, wrapped her arms around his neck, and gently pressed her lips to his.
A fleeting touch.
Only then did the man seem to snap out of it, curling his lips into a faint smile. “What’s wrong, baby?”
“If you don’t want to go, we don’t have to, okay?”
“Let’s go. Let’s see what tricks they’re up to this time,” the man said softly, gently ruffling her hair as he coaxed her.
He silently comforted the girl, whose eyes were filled with concern.
The girl looked up at him and said in a sweet voice, “My treasure A-Yan, shall I give you a surprise on your birthday?”
She wanted to tell him in advance to make him happy.
She knew he felt superfluous, alone and adrift in the world.
But she wanted him to know even more that she loved him, that his presence was the greatest gift heaven had bestowed upon her.
“Okay, thank you, my baby,” the man leaned down and kissed her pouting lips, his expression tender and vivid.
Li Muli hugged him affectionately, her voice gentle yet firm. “A-Yan, you’ll always have me.”
The two held each other, embracing the light that belonged to them in this world.
After a while, Li Muli spoke up, “A-Yan, I have to attend a charity event tonight.”
“Mm, I’ll go with you.”
That night, “Mr. Fu attends charity gala with actress Li Muli” trended on social media.
At that moment, she was actress Li Muli.
He was actress Li Muli’s boyfriend, Fu Chengyan.
Not Mr. Fu and Mrs. Fu.
Black suit.
A black spaghetti strap dress with a red accent at the waist.
Her every move complemented the outfit perfectly.
“Yiyi, you’re here too,” Li Muli smiled and greeted Qiao Yi, who was sitting nearby.
Her sharp eyes quickly noticed the man beside Qiao Yi.
The man possessively rested his hand on the back of her chair, making it look from a distance as though he was holding her in his arms.
A suspicious gaze shifted between the two of them. Something was off very, very off.
She recognized the man as Fu Chengyan’s friend.
Feeling guilty, Qiao Yi brushed a strand of hair behind her ear and whispered, “Lili.”
Li Muli leaned close to Fu Chengyan’s ear and murmured softly, “What’s going on?”
The girl’s warm breath brushed against his ear, carrying the familiar, sweet fragrance.
It felt comfortable, intimate, soft, and sweet.
The man had already noticed the situation beside him. He took her hand and played with it gently, whispering, “Probably exactly what you think it is. We’ll ask later.”
Song Libai watched as his friend beside him enjoyed the warmth and softness of a beautiful, lively actress who was sweet and charming beside him. He gritted his teeth in frustration.
Then he glanced at the woman next to him, who was glaring at him fiercely. He had resorted to pestering her relentlessly just to trick her into coming.
When would he ever get to live the kind of life Fu Chengyan had?
Qiao Yi turned her head and caught the man staring intently at her. Feeling uneasy, she frowned slightly and quickly turned away.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the couple next to her being all lovey-dovey.
Just look, even Fu Chengyan’s eyes were filled with sweet nothings.
So she decided to sit up straight and look ahead.
She couldn’t help but feel that Song Libai had been looking at her strangely lately, and her own reactions had been odd too.
Enough of that. It would all be over in less than two months.
After that, they would go their separate ways.
The charity gala officially began, and the attendees quieted down.
The first few auction items were rather unremarkable, with modest prices, and were quickly snapped up.
Then, a light blue necklace caught Li Muli’s attention. It was a rose-shaped diamond necklace, crystal clear in color, captivating and stunning.
Many people in the room began to sparkle with interest.
It was breathtakingly beautiful.
The host’s voice rang out: “As we all know, love is a beautiful thing. This necklace was custom-made by a British king for his wife when he proposed to her. The rose symbolizes passion and eternity. Legend has it that whoever possesses this necklace will remain forever in love with their partner.”
“The starting bid for ‘Rose’ is 5 million.”
The first round of bidding began.
“10 million,” a man not far away called out directly.
Li Muli recognized the voice and turned to see Wen Ciyi subtly winking at her.
What a devilishly charming man.
The man beside her raised his bidding paddle and said in a deep voice, “50 million.”
Everyone in the room who had been eyeing the necklace fell silent. Who would dare compete with that ruthless and domineering tycoon?
Rumors had it that anyone who crossed him never returned.
Li Muli pouted and pinched the man’s large hand, leaning in to whisper in his ear, “What are you doing?”
The man simply chuckled softly, patted her head, and whispered reassuringly, “Darling, I have the money.”
Li Muli: Okay, she had overstepped.
“50 million, going twice,” the host’s voice echoed again.
“50 million…”
Wen Ciyi: “70 million.”
“100 million,” Fu Chengyan called out. Li Muli glanced back at the other man once more.
But the man beside her turned her head back, whispering a threat, “Baby, if you look at him again, I’ll kiss you.”
Li Muli: “…” I was terrified at that moment.
She sat perfectly still, not daring to glance back again. She truly believed the kissing maniac and jealousy monster beside her would actually do it.
A live broadcast of a French kiss.
“100 million, once.”
“100 million, twice.”
“100 million, thrice.”
“Congratulations, President Fu, for winning this ‘Rose.’ Thank you for your generosity, and may you and your wife enjoy a long and happy life together.”
The host effortlessly showered them with endless pleasantries.
Fu Chengyan gave a slight nod and continued to play with the girl’s fingers.
It seemed as if her fingers captivated him more than anything else.
Of course, to him, the most captivating thing of all was his baby herself.
