- Chapter 61 - Sweetheart, Tone It Down
The subsequent auction items remained rather conventional, until an inconspicuous brooch came into view.
“Starting bid: 500,000.”
Qiao Yi: “1 million.”
Seeing the girl beside him place a bid, Song Libai leaned close to her ear and whispered, “Do you like it?”
A faint masculine scent wafted toward her.
Qiao Yi’s heart skipped a beat, but she steadied herself and nodded.
“1.5 million,” someone from the back row called out.
Song Libai: “2 million.”
“2 million, going once.”
Qiao Yi glanced sideways at the man’s profile, raised a brow slightly, and parted her red lips. “2.2 million.”
Song Libai seemed both amused and exasperated. His hand slid down to her waist, his touch teasing and provoking.
He then called out, “2.5 million.”
Qiao Yi felt the large hand causing mischief at her waist, her heartbeat quickening as if awakening a hidden desire within her.
Still, she gritted her teeth and declared, “3 million.”
She refused to let him take advantage of the situation any further.
Song Libai let out a soft chuckle and didn’t compete with her anymore. In the end, Qiao Yi won the bid for 3 million.
After all, the man beside her wasn’t short on money.
Sooner or later, they’d be family no need to split hairs.
Qiao Yi gritted her teeth and warned in a low voice, “Song Libai, take your pig trotters away.”
Song Libai turned a deaf ear. Taking advantage of the fact that she couldn’t make a scene, his hand continued to gently stroke her waist, occasionally pinching the soft flesh.
So soft, so comfortable.
It reminded him of that wonderful, passionate night.
Too bad it hadn’t happened since he missed it a little.
Qiao Yi shot him a fierce glare, but in his eyes, she resembled an adorably feisty little wildcat.
He wanted to kiss her.
He wanted to cherish her.
Song Libai was acutely aware of the change in himself and couldn’t help but chuckle softly in resignation.
After months of spending day and night together, his initial intention to just have fun had gradually evolved into something more complex.
Next, the host presented a piece of warm jade, speaking gracefully and eloquently: “The final auction item is this piece of jade. It’s often said that jade nurtures the body, as it is the substance most abundant in storing vital energy. It’s believed that by holding jade in the mouth and working in synergy with saliva.”
“it can promote salivation, quench thirst, dispel stomach heat, soothe irritability, nourish the heart and lungs, moisten the throat, and even benefit the hair.”
Thus, jade is not only used for jewelry, decoration, and ornamentation but also for health and wellness.”
Starting bid: 10 million.
When people reach a certain level of wealth and power, they tend to pay more attention to their health. As soon as the words were spoken, bids started coming in.
20 million.
30 million.
Almost all the invited guests were either wealthy magnates or renowned celebrities.
As everyone knows, celebrities are never short on money.
Soon, the price was driven up to 50 million.
A carefree and flamboyant voice chimed in again, seemingly casual yet bold: “100 million.”
“120 million,” a voice came from a private room on the second floor.
Almost everyone turned to look at the same time. Even Master Fu was seated in the front row on the first floor—so who could possibly be on the second floor?
The elite of society couldn’t simply be defined by wealth or power alone.
What they didn’t know was that Master Fu was merely following his wife’s lead.
Li Muli pressed her lips lightly and raised her paddle to bid. “150 million.”
For some reason, this piece of jade had caught her eye.
“200 million,” the bid from upstairs came again.
Li Muli: “250 million.”
The two seemed to be locking horns, their bidding war unrelenting.
The others had long stopped bidding, merely sweating bullets for Li Muli after all, this involved real money measured in hundreds of millions.
Yet the man beside her wore an utterly doting expression, looking as though whatever his wife said was law.
Why do powerful figures act like this when they fall in love?
In the private booth on the second floor, a man gently swirled the pale rosé liquid in his crystal glass, letting the red wine slide down his throat.
He then spoke softly, “Stop.”
“Boss, are we dropping out?”
The charismatic man curled his lips slightly, his gaze drifting toward the girl downstairs. “Let her have it.”
“But this jade piece.” The man’s light, dismissive glance silenced the speaker immediately.
She was quite a pleasing girl to the eye.
“After it’s over, go backstage and introduce yourself.”
“Understood, Boss.”
Once the man upstairs stopped bidding, Li Muli finally secured the item for 300 million.
She seemed to sense the gaze from above lingering on her.
Forget it, no point overthinking it wasn’t important.
Turning her head, she caught sight of the man beside her and smiled faintly.
Even Mr. Fu’s profile was incredibly handsome.
Sensing her stare, he turned to look at her, gently cupped her face, and planted a soft kiss on her forehead.
Li Muli murmured quietly, “Darling, tone it down a little.”
Though her voice was low, someone nearby still overheard the girl’s sweet tone calling him “baby.”
A soft hum escaped the man’s lips, unable to conceal his delight.
That term of endearment made his heart flutter again and again.
It felt as though he were her cherished treasure.
After the auction ended, attendees in the back rows gradually left, leaving only the four of them and the man from upstairs in their seats.
“Not leaving?” Song Libai was the first to break the silence, addressing Qiao Yi.
Was it possible she wanted to stay with Li Muli, but was intimidated by the disdainful look Boss Fu was giving her?
Seeing Qiao Yi frantically blinking at her, Li Muli understood immediately. She leaned in and kissed Fu Chenyan.
In a sweet, coaxing voice, she said, “Baby, why don’t you go ahead first?”
Fu Chenyan shot a cold glance at Song Libai, his expression full of contempt, as if calling him useless.
Couldn’t even manage to take someone away and had to drag his wife along.
Song Libai shrugged helplessly, looking completely at a loss.
Fu Chenyan pressed his lips together, gently ruffled the girl’s hair, and whispered tenderly, “Sweetheart, I’ll wait for you outside.”
“Alright, alright, be good, baby.” She gave him another quick peck on the corner of his lips.
Watching from the side, Song Libai gritted his teeth in envy.
Why didn’t he get that kind of treatment?
Once the two men had left, Qiao Yi clasped her hands together, blinking pleadingly at Li Muli. “Time to come clean.”
She recounted the whole story from start to finish.
“Do you like him?”
Qiao Yi pursed her lips, thought for a moment, and replied, “I’m not sure.”
Li Muli raised an eyebrow. She remembered that in her past life, Song Libai had remained single all along, and he wasn’t a bad person.
“Just follow your heart,” she said, gently patting Qiao Yi’s back.
A light cough echoed through the room.
A strikingly handsome man descended from the upper floor. His appearance was different from Fu Chenyan’s cold, restrained aura and Wen Ciyi’s devilish charm he exuded a gentle, refined elegance.
A faint smile played on the man’s lips as he extended his hand to Li Muli. “Hello, I’m Yin Hanzhi.”
“Hello, I’m Li Muli,” the girl replied, shaking his hand with graceful composure.
The man before her was clearly someone of wealth and status.
Yet he had willingly yielded the jade pendant to her.
Out of both courtesy and gratitude, she ought to thank him.
“Thank you, Mr. Yin, for parting with something you valued.”
A deeper smile curved Yin Hanzhi’s lips. “You’re too kind. To have earned Miss Li’s smile in exchange for a piece of jade is the highest honor.”
His words seemed to leave no room for a reply.
